Guess now it's confirmed that last chapter's final spread had a wrong drawing of Luffy in it (i.e. him seeming to have punched Caesar with his left fist). At the beginning of this chapter he was shown having used only the right one so that little mistake should be fixed in the volume version.
Chapter 690: S.A.D

Cutting a mountain? Seriously only Mihawk, admirals and WB with his awesome quake fruit has shown such destroying power
Causing mass destruction is awesome and all but not every fighter about that .
Sanji and Marco are eg of that there strong but there moves don't cause mass destruction. ( they can cause some damage but it harder for them )
We have moves in OP that destroy allot of stuff but a 1 hit moves like croc sucking all the water out of you still more dangerous in a 1 on 1 fight . -
No, I mean when you first see Vergo at all in the manga
So did I. The first time we ever see Vergo at the end of chapter 671 he is squeezing Law's heart behind his back
-

That can't be right– Law's heart was given after, when he was locked up. That scene in 671 is when he got captured to get locked up, right?

Particularly when we've seen the lengths Oda has gone to in order to prevent the Mugiwara being seen as broken. Luffy not being able to block Hordy's bite with his haki. Luffy being taken out by Caesar along with the whole crew. Sanji's leg fracturing against Vergo's. Zoro not being able to use haki against Monet. Etcetera etcetera. Remember it wasn't even Zoro that cut the room/tower at EL, that was all Kaku.
And no matter how you look at it, if Law can take out Vergo in one hit, Smoker has no place losing to him. If Law can do it, why can't Smoker just beat Vergo and return the heart after?

Oh yeah my bad, Vergo had just arrived in that scene… Then I don't know how he did it.
-
@Rotten:
Most haxx ability in OP: Hancock or Law?
What about Bonney? Granted she was beat by BB but he can nullify DF powers
-
Zoro not being able to use haki against Monet.
He chose not to use Haki on her. Zoro could've killed her back then if he really wanted to.
-

Actually no, I was right, on this page: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/118882/one-piece_ch675_by_mangarule/9
Caesar says "I'm sure you've realized by now that Vergo is currently in possession of your heart."
So Vergo obtained Law's heart prior to chapter 671 and was squeezing it in his first appearance -
Oh yeah my bad, Vergo had just arrived in that scene… Then I don't know how he did it.
I thought his heart was given 2 years ago as a deal for being allowed to stay on the island? So its possible he got the heart before then.
-
Sooo… Law fucked up? He was gonna claim the sad, but now he cut the containers open and it's all going to waste?
-
He chose not to use Haki on her. Zoro could've killed her back then if he really wanted to.
You mean like Sanji did against Vergo? There's no evidence to support such assertions.

Reading mangapanda is frustrating as ever but they are even faster then the raws at least at the places where I look.
Hope we'll have a better translation soon. -
As long as Law's strength becomes relative to other New World fighters' strength we witness throughout the New World, I'm okay with it. It'll be quite interesting to see how other Supernovae, New World pirates, can be on par with Law, but we'll see.
Really though, that's small potatoes. I love what the end of this chapter represents. Just so incredible.
-
Oh okay… my sense of timing must've been messed up-- flashback or something must've shown the heart being given.
-
This chapter left my mouth open…not joking or exaggerating

Except there is. Zoro clearly used Haki to cut Monet on her cheek and afterwords attacked her. During that attack Monet was terrified because she knew that her opponent could easily end her life anytime. So there's solid evidence that Zoro can use Haki and did it already. Frankly I fail to see the comparison to Sanji vs Vergo.
-

Well Law did not slice a island in half it was just a mountain which is still crazy but he is a warlord now these guys are no longer rookies .
Luffy getting taken out by CC don't really matter , CC is no where near as strong as Luffy he got him with on shot move he did not know about .
Plus Vergo under underestimated Law and that was he undoing vs smoker he was fighting smarter .
Vergo would most likely put up a better fight but him being cocky cause him to get one shot . -
Me thinks Law put on extra airs with that attack to make sure he cut Vergo.
Also, what if his original intent was to destroy the SAD? He did say that Dofla wouldn't be able to predict their movements, destroying the SAD containers could be a part of that idea.
-
You mean like Sanji did against Vergo? There's no evidence to support such assertions.
It's pretty obvious that Zoro did conciously choose not to use Haki against Monet, and that it wasn't that he was too weak or doesn't know Haki (in fact, he slices her face a bit with a ranged slash when she tries to finish off Tashigi ).
About the fight Sanji vs. Vergo: I don't think Sanji is necessarily (far) weaker than Vergo, but Oda didn't intend for any of them to loose in that fight. The scene was probably to hype Vergo a bit, but also to show that Sanji can keep up. Sure, Sanjis leg was injured, but Vergo didn't overpower him, he suffered injuries himself, and for all we know Sanji wasn't fighting all out, especially with the fog approaching.
Laws display of power is pretty impressive, but it is partly due to his devil fruit, and remember that we haven't seen a member of the monster trio go all out against an equal or stronger opponent after the time skip yet.

Sanji admitted that he would have lost the fight in the chapter after, I asked CCC in the corresponding chapter thread. Tho I expect him to surpass Vergo soon, like after Doflamingo is dealt with. The power jumps are always insane after a real arc boss is down.
Alright, I have mixed feelings on the chapter and I might have a different opinion when CCC's proper stuff is out, but all in all it was a good chapter.
The cover page surprises me to be honest. Just what did Drake do to Kaido's favorite Island? What we heard of Kaido up to this point tells me that he doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who stations granny's to fix up cast aways. Does this mean Drake didn't join his ranks, but "liberated" the island instead? I mean there is a clear difference between cyborgs willing to kill you on the spot vs. a granny offering tea with sugar. And yeah, it's not the same granny from Rajin island, this one has an actual chin and wears glasses.
!
As for the actual chapter, I can't believe how many armament infused attacks Caesar can take, even to the face multiple times. He obviously doesn't stand a chance against the monster that is Luffy, but got to give credit where credit is due. I like how he again highlights that Doflamingo isn't the main problem, but the people he does business with. Pissing off Doflamingo means trouble way beyond challenging a Shichibukai.Okay, Caesar realizes that Luffy doesn't give a shit and resorts to what seems to be his ultimate attack "Gastille", whatever that means. Can't wait to see it animated, together with the sure to come parody
!
I'm just wondering why he used it this late, and why did he even use his flame sabre if he can do stuff like that? He is a logia, his gas reservoir is infinite…there shouldn't be any limitations. But whatever! The gas finally reached the point where Zoro and Monet "fought". I wonder what happened to her. Obviously she isn't dead, but I can't picture Zoro leaving her there when he knows that the killer gas will flood the room in a few minutes. I mean, what was the point of not slicing her in half, only to let her die a horrible death shortly after? Since Usopp is still after a pair of seastone cuffs, I guess Zoro/Tashigi made sure that she won't get caught in Shinokuni, maybe covering her unconscious body in snow or so.
!
Time for Vergo vs. Smoker, highlight of the chapter.
What can I say, Smoker didn't manage to redeem himself by defeating Vergo, but it does make sense that he doesn't want to be indebted to a pirate. At first I thought that it would be weird to place his own pride above the life of his crew and the Marines overall, but then again Smoker very well knows what Law is capable of doing, after all he felt his power first hand. He knew that Law would wipe the floor with Vergo if he gets his heart back. And he was right.
I really don't like to rub it into peoples faces, but since some insulted me multiple times because of it, here it goes: we have another case of Shichibukai > Vice Admiral. The second in the very same arc. I respect everyones opinion, but no one can tell me that there are no clear tiers like that. Yes, I know of Garp, but I also know the phrase "exception that proves the rule". Exceptions Oda always highlights when appropriate.Anyway, Vergo goes haki-hulk mode. I don't understand how haki can increase his muscle mass like that, so we have another case of life-return here? But I guess we will never find out, now that Law oneshotted him and the whole freaking island. And I don't even call it OP, if we remember that Luffy did the same thing
!
I'm not the greatest Law fan, but I must admit that his speech to Doflamingo was one of the most epic so far."You are so 2 years ago, go fuck yourself."
-
Hm, so now we know why we got the kid-hawkins-drake alliance in the middle of the arc … for those few panels. Worth it.
But, is Oda going to just quit good fights? Smoker vs Vergo was nice, except that it was off-panel over several chapters. Law vs Vergo was going well when he was losing, but this? Well, the speech at the end was great, but the fight was nonexistant. Oh, and what happened to Shinokuni? Because cutting the lab-and-island in two doesn't seem like a bright idea if it's still sround (which it must be to by filling up the lab like that). But anyway, good fights ... Luffy just turns up and punches Caesar every few chapters, but nothing really happens. The fights so far in PH and those in FI don't even hold a candle to Thriller Bark, for the most part. Slightly disappointed by that, but hoping it'll turn around by the end of the arc.
-
I just wanna say that i can't wait to see zoro going "black"… not trying to be racist here
-
This chapter just got me so pumped up for the rest of the New World. I mean, if Law, a relative new comer, can cut an ENTIRE MOUNTAIN in half, I can only imagine that the veterans can cut an island. Nice work, Oda sensei.
BTW, does this mean Law is up there with Mihawk, Zoro, Vista as strongest swordsmen??
I would say yes, he's up there fore sure, no doubt.
Vergo, all that muscle for nothing, hahah. It was cool to see that "frikin laser beam" thingy come out of Caesar, to bad it missed. Luffy is really going to give it to CC now.
Law split the lab and part of the island in half, damn, hats off to you. Now was it due to his df or skill? That's what I want to know.
Finally, Law shut up Doflamingo, all he does is "FUFUFU" and now Law grabbed him by the throat and turned his smile upside down. Can't wait till DD's business falls to the ground and he himself gets a whooping.
Oh damn, the alliance huh? Looks like it's coming along well, Basil Hawkins is already making predictions like the cool actuary/algorithm master he is, wonder if he uses haki to make his predictions. Oh, and that Big Mom panel, man is she ever nasty, always drooling that acid, jeeze.
-
I'm not so positive about that Vergo business. So much buildup for a supposedly very strong character just for him to get one shotted just to hype another character. That reminded me a lot of stuff like Bleach and DBZ… very cliche. It's also very anticlimactic. Just... yawn. It also gives me the feeling Law is overpowered. If someone with supposedly such great armament haki can get one shotted by him who can't? How can you counter that? If Vergo just keeps fighting while bisected like a badass motherfucker that would totally salvage this and more though :). Go do this Oda, don't disappoint!
On a more positive note... Doflamingo is frowning?! Holy shit. It's on now! I love it that things finally aren't going as planned for him.
-
Very nice action themed chapter. I just wish this has happened a bit sooner (Luffy getting serious and Law dealing with Vergo)
Too bad for Smoker that his time for looking cool is already over.
-
Law is powerful, and whether a real sword or an ability cuts a mountain in half, it's cut in half… but his is more of a troll ability, lol. Cutting Mihawk in half would just have his two halves there saying "damn it" until he gets back together somehow. Mihawk doing the same to someone else would kill them. But I like it that way better; it's a way to pwn someone without killing or even hurting them.
-

It's not just the haki; I feel Law is more overpowered because of his devil fruit.
He can control an entire space to his whim, scramble up body parts, remove hearts, swap bodies….there's got to be some kind of cap on his power. And I don't mean haki. It looks to be more broken than the likes of Hancock's, Robin's, and Bonney's DFs.
Otherwise we'll really head into Bleach/DBZ territory.
-
Why is everyone talking like the Vergo fight is over? Laws power is to pull people apart while they're still alive no? Granted we didnt see Law make an operating room this time but I really struggle to believe a guy like Vergo would just be out of the game.
-
Law don't really seem that overpowered IMO .
Some people here are just like Doflamingo and Vergo there are underestimating the next generation of pirates .
These guys going to be taking on Yonkou i expect all of them to have power up in a big way .No matter how strong you are if under underestimated your opponent it going to cost you .
Vergo could have just avoid law slash (we see how fast he is ) but nope it can't hurt me so i won't bother .
Gets cut in half . -
I agree that it was a great chapter, but I really wanted to see how a pure Haki fighter does things when he gets serious. Not to mention that Vergo looked like a certain someone from Yu Yu Hakusho there…
Ahhh glad I'm not the only one thats reminded of Togoru when he threw off the coat.

That's why it is absoulty stupid to say that Smoker lost on purpose cause he wanted the heart and hasn't fought… if he would be able to win he would beat Vergo and after it take the heart
With the rest I completely agree with you
-
Well, he got his body sliced in half and he is still in Law's room. He won't Soru his way out of this, that's for sure. Hell, I would't be surprised if he shambles his legs with a random animal and sends his deformed body back to Dress Rosa.
-
Vergo failed so hard because he was overconfident (as Law was saying about Dofla) He charged head on because he was sure Law's haki was not strong enough to cut him and he also was dumb enough to fall into Law's provocation.
Vergo lost his cool and that was the end of him.

Essentially saying "fuck off" to Doflamingo.
….Speaking of, the man's dangerous enough when he's laughing his ass off and having fun. When he's mad......geez, the thought makes me wince.
-
Yeah… I think Doflamingo is going to destroy some ass.
-
WHAT A TIGHT CHAPTER! This is the kind of chapters that makes me act like a crazy guy next to my laptop screen
hahaha, Thats greaaaaaaat, Law is very strong, Very Badass, shit is EPIC!
Smoker?? I cannot say he is weak, But he's a former char! and he will soon, Be very strong. Now, for once, smoker helps a pirate else than Luffy! (if he ever did)The samura thinks the DRAGON he cut while back is Momnsuke, he's going to help him (Maybe its Vegapunk whom turned into a dragon, a failed operation?) he looks big though.
Ussop looking for seastone cuffs, Interesting! he's gonna make some good material out of it.
Luffy is Luffy. OWNAGE ALL THE WAY
Doflamingo got owned. FOR REAL,
Thanks!
-
Well considering Law IS a shichi, that level of power could somewhat be expected… eg. mihawk's ridiculous slice in the war.
Although, given that cutting is only a part of his DF ability (teleportation, scrambling etc)... HAXXORRRrR
-
LAW IS AMAZING!
I couldn't even comprehend what I saw on that last page. It's a shame Smoker got taken out like that, but FUCK THAT, Law is the most haxed character we've seen thus far.
-

Vergo lost his cool and that was the end of him.
Well that'd be a good reason. If that turns out to be the case then I'll have no problem with it.
-
When Vergo first showed up looked mysterious and strong. Then when some chapters went by and we kept learning things about him I started to dislike him. After this chapter he is on my most disliked characters list.Thank God for Law beating the shit out of him.

Nah way more chars haxed than him , you can still avoid his moves if you fast enough and logia user don't have to care .
-
I'm hopeing Usopp finds some neat stuff in the secret room. Something to give him a few more gadgets and ways of fighting would be great.
If it's seastone, maybe he (and perhaps the other less powerfull members of the crew) will be able to take on those troublesome logias in the future! -
I have to say i rly love the last page of this chapter.
It shows Law is able to cut with one slice a mountain and next to it you see all the big players for the saga.
The Luffy&Law alliance that made their first move in destroying the smile-production which resulted in DoFlamingo joining the party and also to weaken the yonkou BigMum, who cant any longer build her army of zoan-DFs. DoFlamingo is still a bit in the open..he sure goes against the Luffy&Law alliance now, but will he be on BigMum
s side..i doubt that.
Then we also have the second alliance (Kid,Hawkings,Apoo) who also seems to go against BigMum (or else why shown in this context now)..but do they maybe work for DoFlamingo who is plotting against BigMum.So it could be a 4-way battle between the two alliances, DoFlamingo and BigMum which was now fired on by Law.
Damn, who isn`t looking forward to that !!! -
Essentially saying "fuck off" to Doflamingo.
….Speaking of, the man's dangerous enough when he's laughing his ass off and having fun. When he's mad......geez, the thought makes me wince.
Terrifying indeed.
If anyone has the counter to Law's fruit, it's Doflamingo. He can do what is necessary to beat him: completely restrict his movements. Vergo did exactly that by abusing his heart & succeeded.
I'm not saying that Dofla is stronger, but they seem like a good example of 2 people playing in them same league but faring differently against, surprise surprise, different opponents.
-
I haven't made a post in awhile, but after reading this chapter I have to. Did Law just cut a mountain in half? I was tripping at the fact in the spoilers he cut the room in half. A mountain?! I don't care he Law power is overpowered compared to some of the other fruits. Law is amazing! That speech was great. Oda is Brilliant. This arc is coming to a close wonderfully. with the kids, the stories, the character growth, and the action. People had the nerve to say Oda lost it. Ha. I pitty the fools.
-
Loads of really cool things this chapter, Loved it!
Starting off with Law. I love how this chapter seems to be a culmination of a number of things that he's set in motion throughout this whole Arc, it really helps to develop him as the cool and collecting character who carefully plans every move he makes. It's gonna be really interesting how he'll interact with Luffy in the coming storyline. His speech about how he's putting in place the birth of a New Era was brilliant (I can't wait to see it handled by a more able translator such as CCC) for me it was the definitive introduction for the next stage of the story that will see the Worst Generation upsetting the status quo and for that reason I loved it. Also on that final double page spread we saw BM, Kid, Apoo and Hawkins. This makes me think that the Yonkou in question is BM and that the other three supernova will be involved in some grand alliance with Law and Luffy.
On the topic of Vergo I still think we've got a lot more to come from him. My interpretation of that scene was that Vergo has an incredible mastery of CoA but that CoA is not necessarily the best counter to DF powers, especially Law's power. From how Doflamingo built up Vergo's strength it made me think that in the past Law's abilities with the 'Ope-Ope no mi' could not counter Vergo's incredible CoA abilities, but since Law's left the services of Dofla his abilities have developed as such that he can now get past Vergo's CoA. This confrontation was in my eyes a metaphor for the challenge that Law was making to Doflamingo, Vergo's supposed power over Law represents an outdated viewpoint that Doflamingo has, Doflamingo has become complacent because he's made assumptions about how the world works and has made preparations accordingly and this will ultimately be his undoing. Law on the other hand represents a younger generation that Doflamingo hasn't accounted for, it is this generation that will act in a way that Doflamingo hasn't prepared for and will as a result bring about his downfall. When Law sliced Vergo in half he was effectively saying to Doflamingo 'Your pre-conceived notion of how a situation will unfold is outdated and as a result you've become complacent', this action then fit hand in hand with Law's speech on the matter. And for that reason I really enjoyed that little skirmish.
Back to Vergo. Like I said I don't think that CoA is necessarily the best counter to Law, from the beginning it seems that Law has to be very measured with his attacks so I think that CoO would be the best way to deal with Law. Now that Vergo is aware that his CoA isn't for want of a better word 'Law-proof' he'd be better off dodging Law's attacks. Ultimately Vergo underestimated Law and payed the price for it, in no way do I see this as a sign that Vergo is now Law's bitch.
As for the rest of the chapter. I'm curious as to how Kinemon is aware about Momonosuke being a dragon, hopefully Oda can explain this soon. I loved the little gag about Zoro's sense of direction and for me the issue of the childrens rampage has been dealt with effectively, all I hope is that the situation with Mocha and Chopper will be given the time and attention it deserves in the coming chapters. So yeah…great chapter.
you've summed up the reason this chapter is awesome, and not "h!@^&y !!!he cut the island(mountain).oda is a very skilled storyteller.best part is he is able to corelate stuff that happened more than 350 chapters ago to present, without having to waste 10 pages(you know what i'm talking about),or forgetting early stuff outright.the f#ucking new age is here, donflamingo!it just ain't you.
-
Damn mangapanda translation. Oh well still a nice chapter.
Better stay out of this chapter thread for once, power level talks hurt my brain.
-
Great chapter! Cesar´s deformed face was hilarious!
-
The way Vergo's character and abilities were built, i don't believe he is defeated yet. I hope so. But anyways, Law's cutting of the whole island should not surprise people at lot. He's a Shichibukai and with a bounty greater than that of Luffy.
