This issue has stretched far enough that I'm actually going to type on my Wii to address it.
@FelRes: If there is opposition to your viewpoint, emotionally charged or otherwise, that doesn't make the opposition without reason. I've observed this entire conversation and I can honestly say that the opposing side remained civil until you began offending the people INVOLVED in your viewpoints, which you yourself have no direct knowledge of.
That you've "allegedly" met people to the contrary doesn't mitigate an opposing side, it simply serves to display your very apparent lack of empathy and ignorance. That you refuse to counter the points presented shows a shallow belief in your own opinions and a selfish nature that's unable to compromise viewpoints on stubborness and arrogance alone.
That's one of the reasons why we're all offended. Rather than acknowledging any of the opposition's points or admitting you're wrong you move to insult the body of your opposition, indiscrimantly, claiming that THEY can't be civil. All the while continuing to refuse to show empathy, which is itself an act of civility.
Another reason we're upset is because your ignorance (and you ARE ignorant) could have serious adverse effects on someone's life. An abused party should NEVER be scrutinized. Blame NEVER rests with them. By any act of proposing to the contrary, you're re-inforcing the degrading ideal that an abused party, and not solely the perpetrator, holds a level of blame for the event. This only serves to further a descent into self-hatred and can impair one's ability to function in life or worse, commit suicide.
Organizations, regardless of intentions (honorable or otherwise; hell, especially if honorable like a "church") should compensate regardless if they covered it up or not (though especially if they covered it up). It is the responsibility of any organization that those under their employ are fit for their position and that the safety and well-being of their customers is absolutely ensured. This is indisputable. There are always steps to ensure acts like this are made impossible. So both for integrity and punishment, compensation should be imposed.
And let me re-iterate once again, those that alledge they weren't effected to any degree are more than likely hiding their true feelings. If you can't understand why they would, it could be because they don't want others to worry, they're trying to pretend it didn't happen or because of people with your opinion makes them feel like they deserved the abuse and feel guilty. In any case, if the crimes were measured on a case by case basis, it would only empower the villain or organization to threaten the victim which can only lead to even greater damage.
