Date-senpai was absolutely terrible.
It was a really bad Kuromatie-Bo-bobobo wannabe that looked like drawn and written by a teenager.

For once i dont think Bleach deserves to be there.****************
Wait wait is AC really in first place?
Holy SHIT assclass, well done, did NOT expect that
This would be Assclass's ranking for its..second chapter wouldn't it?
Bleach is bottom 4 :D And considering one of the others is Kochikame, it's more like bottom 3 isn't it ?
This is the rank for AssClass 4th chapter, understandable, the first chapter of KarmaSan
Did not expect AssassinClass to rank 1st, damn! Awesome!
What the heck is this AssassinClass series? Should I check it out?
Bum bum bum Bleach knocked back down to the bottom.
Naruto in the third spot again, not that shocking now, that series isn't at its best right now.
Amazing for it to have reached first place.
What the heck is this AssassinClass series?
Tentacled alien pervert capable of blowing up the moon that can move at mach 20 and looks like an emoticon teaches a class of school students who have a year to kill him before he destroys the earth.
So I guess Takamagahara is screwed. It's a shame I really like the art

Either what you said is true or you just dropped the biggest load of acid ever.

It's all true, and it is glorious.

Yeah, I had just caught up with the damn thing to. The powers seemed like they'd be intriguing. I'm hoping it does well in sells, or at least inches up a little in rank.
Do you know that he is not really an alien, maybe is a experiment or something like that

Yeah. It would be a small miracle if it rose among the ranks now, which would be the best outcome. It is a lot more likely that the only way it can survive until it can rise in the ranks is if the two new series are complete and utter failures.
Well…Date-senpai is an absolute trainwreck so I wouldn't be worried about that one.

Seeing yours and Aohige's reactions, now I want to read it. It sounds "so bad it's good".

That's what I said too, but unfortunately kids may like the terrible juvenileness of it.
Well, at least, Cross Manage should be decent judging from the one shot.
AAAaand just read Cross Manage chapter 1.
Well goddamn, million times better than Date-senpai for sure.
Art was far more fleshed out from the one-shot, and more importantly, the characterization, story, and emotion were greatly improved. I wonder if she got some input and advice from the editor or just had time to rethink and organize.
Anyways, it certainly doesn't feel like a WSJ manga, feels more in place in WSMagazine, so I have no idea if this is going to do well. But quality wise, couldn't hope for better.
Aohige, what exactly do you mean as it would fit better in Magazine? As shonen is concerned I've only read outside Jump FMA, Gash Bell and Soul Eater, so I can't argue about the "theme" of the magazines.

I mean, just the style of manga and its readership.
Believe it or not, each shounen magazine have different demographics of readers with tastes.
Weekly Shounen Jump, Sunday, Magazine, and Champion.
Since manga like Again! is running in Shounen Magazine, and doing fairly ok, the shoujo-esque feminine touch and its seishun romance/sports theme works well in WSMagazine. It'd probably do well in WSSunday as well, it did have success with Adachi Mitsuru's works (although they are not feminine, the themes are similar).
Of course that doesn't mean it doesn't work in other magazines such as WSJump, it's just that it's unusual and the readership may or may not like it.

What is it about, this Cross Manage manga?
Ugh man I want to read Cross Manage too
And you are not helping talking about it favorably and even saying that Kaito made imporvements. Hopefully Kuudere Scans will pick it up soon.
Feminine or not, but Kaito's work did remind me on Adachi. The way lacrosse wasn't the main theme in focus but only a condition, an enviroment for the characters to develop and create their story - that striked me as something Sunday like if anything. I expect good things out of it.
What is it about, this Cross Manage manga?
You can read the one shot here.
I wonder what Alpha will do once Barrage's run ends. It seems like they are alluding to adding a new series. I wonder if they will gamble with Cross Manage or Date-Senpai, though I hardly think they will and I don't think they would be particularly smart if they did too. It would be nice to see them go back and pick up an older, but still new, serial like Assassination Classroom and play the catch-up game with it like they did with Blue Exorcist. That way they can actually look at the rankings for newer series before they take a gamble on them too.
I would totally be up for more Jump SQ too….. If they did Claymore.... I would be so happy.
I don't think they'll pick up AssClass. Definitely not after they beat into the ground the fact that a major character is jokingly called "Bitch-sensei." It just won't fly with the established maturity level they're trying to maintain in SJA.

Is that why there's no Gintama or Medaka Box? Damn…
At least the eyes don't look as soul-sucking anymore.
Don't worry, there's still a bit of nightmare fuel expression in the actual chapter.
Is that why there's no Gintama or Medaka Box? Damn…
Yeah you do remember gintama was dropped from them right? They see no profit in translating a series they no longer want anything to do with.
As for medaka box, well I've never read it so I can't say.

I haven't actually read it yet, but I can definitely see why that would be a problem. At the same time though, Viz has come a long way when it comes to self censorship. Last week there were quite a few comments on Alpha about how they used the word "Bastard" in Naruto. Not surprisingly, they were all comments about how hey were happy seeing it. I think the editors on Alpha are really deticated and are trying to create a more honest product aimed at their audience, which has always been said to be teenagers, but for the longest time Viz has always been severely PG and seem to be abusing their "Teens, 13 & up" ratings as marketing.
Any publication that labels itself as for "Teens" should honestly be able to say they can use the word "bitch" at least once. If they were to say they could not use that word even once, then I consider that teen rating a flat out lie.
Again though, I have not yet read Assassination Classroom, so if the problem is not so much the word, but that there is more mature connotations that are suggested with "bitch" I totally understand why it would be off of Alpha's table. It could even be that there are other more mature connotations in the series that just wouldn't fly. But I would be pretty offened if it was a case where Viz would go, "Man, Assassination classroom is really good, but we just can't do it soley because of the use of the b-word."
Decided to read some new titles in Jump. Felt like dropping random thoughts here.
Takamagahara: It felt very similar to Bleach, and I don't mean that as a slander (I was already seeing his underling and his friend girl getting powers in the future). The story could use a quicker pace, especially with shonen jump's standards. Originality is another issue. The story is too standard shonen and the few gems that do stick out like his aspirations to be a manga artist aren't utilized that well. Premise. Chapter 8 seemed to give the story a "purpose", but it's too vague and doesn't really imply where the story will go. Having a big bad could help with that instead of dealing with monsters right away. The academy is a step in the right direction in having a bigger quirky relevant cast but given the ratings it seems like it'll be chopped soon, unless it's shown that the readers really like that guy that can manipulate print in the next TOC.
Barrage: Shame it was cancelled. People already discussed it in the thread so I don't have too much to say. I wish shonen jump was more lenient and let story have more room to grow. If Barrage went for a while on its own and did it's own thing I had a feeling it could've grown into something great, though I do think that the early chapters with Barrage trying to hide being the Prince was already getting old quick and glad it was resolved quickly so I can understand some issues with writing, but it seemed more nitpicky than bad.
AssClass: I'm surprised by how popular it's doing in jump right now (hasn't reached great for me yet), but time will tell the future of the series. I'm guessing it helps that there's nothing quite like it right now in jump that I know of. Given the premise I bet standalone short stories can be more forgiving, but the story has been bringing new characters. Then again, it might be a smarter play in developing a fanbase so he can develop characters without having to worry about the chopping block and boring readers. I wonder if the author will try to flesh out and balance a classroom of students like how it was done in Negima. The sensei is pretty wacky and he's a good face for the series both in design and character (and with a hidden past too to boot). Given the samurai tale the story is based off I wonder what direction the story will go in the future.
Nisekoi:I liked Double Arts, so I'm glad he's back. It's a standard harem manga plot, but I think it's executed well.
As for Nisekoi, as standard as it may seem, for some odd reason…it feels kinda of refreshing and somewhat tantalizing. :)

Retsu!! Date Senpai looks really interesting…I hope some english scanlation group picks it up.

8 chapters ago. So neither.
After reading Cross Manage, despite having no interest in lacrosse, I thought it was great and possibly the most well executed of the last handful of series Jump started. Great panel work, funny and varied facial expressions, solid humor, a good and interesting tomboyish heroine who doesn't seem to be explicitly for the usual wish fulfillment purposes. Oh, and an interesting take on the usual sports cliches by having the guy be the manager on a girl's team rather than the other way around. I will definitely be following this one.

Haha, we keep echoing each other.
I agree, Cross Manage's first chapter was the best excuted one out of the last batch.
In fact, I may say as far as best starting chapter out of all the new series in 2012.
We'll have to see if she can keep it up in serialization format.
My only concern is if the Jump audience can adapt to this type of sports-love-comedy.
Also, what I found the biggest improvement (aside from a leap in quality of art, pacing, and expressions) from the one-shot was how fleshed out the protagonist was. Despite focusing on his emotions, he felt rather uninteresting and little more than a piece of plot device in the one-shot.
In this official chapter one, she gave him a past which connects with more resonance in his emotions, and potential "sleeping tiger", teasing us with his immense talent. And giving relatable reason on his attraction to the heroine's spirit and attitude.
As for Nisekoi, as standard as it may seem, for some odd reason…it feels kinda of refreshing and somewhat tantalizing. :)
I read Nisekoi because of this
!
It's hard enough waiting for Cross Manage without Aohige and stephen praising the hell out of it.
Kuudere-scans…hurry uppp...
