Thanks for the info tatermoog, and thanks for the link, Galaxy ^u^.
My nick has a reason to be, and it means a lot to me and to my best friend who had the worst time of his life some years ago, but thanks for calling it shallow and empty, Hiroy
Reread the post Hiroy didn't call your name shallow and empty, your reason for not reading Lucifer and The Biscuit Hammer is though.
I'm pretty sure Hiroy just realized who it was that was posting and decided to drop it.

Whatever the case, whoever knows me can tell i´m the opposite of such things…
Nevermind that, i followed the polite replies i got and read some more chapters of that manga, unfortunately it wasn´t of my liking in the end, under any aspect.
But, i tried with Sensei no Bulge, and i really liked it ^u^ and i´m currently reading the previous manga of the author~ -

Is anyone here reading Diamond no Ace? It's a really good manga! It's shounen and about Sawamura's journey on becoming a hell of a baseball pitcher. I don't know anything about baseball when I started reading it and it doesn't matter. All you need is hard-work, rivalry, and a great story of teamwork to get you going! I really want to promote this work by imangascans so they'll become even more motivated on catching up with the series. They're like releasing 2 chapters a week which is really impressive and there can still be improvements. :)
-
Been reading Negima! and the one thing that throws me off is definitely the panty shots and nakedness, so I can relate to Skadi. I'm at 18 and it's supposed to be getting really good about now. I'll give it until 50 to see if I really like it.
-
Doesn't get really good till around chapter 40 so yeah.

Bakemonogatari.
That's all I have to say.

An obituary for Nakano Junko was printed in the last issue of Young Jump magazine. She died from an ischemic heart disease at age 45 on 28th July 2012. If you enjoy light romantic comedies and echhi shots don't take a toll on your eyes or morals, you can honour her memory by reading some of her translated works, like Hetakoi or B-Shock. May she rest in peace.
-
Ughhh that sucks R.I.P.
Speaking of that, im looking for good romances stories to read, I will read those too Silverblade, but if everyone has good recomendations for good romance series please give them to me.
-
@Silverblade: I´ve about her death a few weeks ago and quite frankly, i was a bit shocked. To think that only a few weeks after completing Hetakoi she would die.
B-Shock wasn´t really my thing but i was a huge fan of Hetakoi.R.I.P.

Is YuYu Hakusho worth reading? Most people seem to praise it but here I've seen quite a few mixed opinions, ranging from mediocre to really good.
-
It is good until the 3 kingdom arc…it felt rushed.

As the previous poster stated, the last arc is a massive letdown as it it rushed and delivers an anticlimatic and very boring ending to what could have become the longest and probably most interesting arc in the entire series. It's also hyped by a lot of people who watched the anime during their childhood years, but all in all it is a decent battle Shounen.
Anyway, I recommend you and everyone here to read Blade of the Immortal. The manga was just announced to end in December and this seems to be the perfect opportunity to catch up and read the final chapter "live".
-
I remember reading till the point where the Shogunate is experimenting, do you know how much is left from that point?
-
I just came across a new series.. it's called Dark Air.. aside from the story the main villian is FRANK ZAPPA! so I was instantly a fan.. but aside from that it's a decent story and the characters are interesting.
(from mangahere)
magic used to fill up the world but all of a sudden it just disappeared. Magician can’t perform magic anymore and they are now being looked down by warriors. Only two individuals in the world are able to perform magic after its disappearance, a mighty wizard and a little boy… Follow Melrose and his companions in their adventures as they are trying to solve this Dark Air mystery -

Honestly it is one of the few series that I would recommend the anime over the manga, doubly special because I prefer the dub (both rarities for me).
It has no filler and it adapted a horrible closing into something watchable. -

Yeah, years of material after that.
Last I saw, all four of the "main" characters through the series finally came together to ally up. That was months ago though.I love the fact that even though there are so many inhumanly skilled killers in this series, the strongest one by far has been and still is, a sickly, down-on-luck woman.

I really should start reading it then, there are only 2 months till December

The series is so revolutionary in terms of the underlying themes it has given its set in the feudal era. You have series like Lone Wolf and Cub and Vagabond which is all about men (everyone of them) achieving honor and fighting with dignity and adhering to the complex, unwritten by-laws of their schools and the code of the samurai.
Then you have this series which from the start gave us a protagonist who fights dirty and an antagonist who truly believes that strength is what should be important above all else not your heritage or fighting according to arbitrary rules of dignity and obeying outdated school doctrines.
And the characters are so real, they act so much like real people, each person having their own unique personality, fighting-styles, ideals and code of ethics.
And don't get me started on how well women are treated in this series. Makie-sama!!! <3
-
It's also unique in that the protagonist gets weaker and weaker as the series goes.
He's even aware of it.Who woulda thought one of the first villains to get instagibbed was actually one of the best swordsman in the series.

Spoilers:
! Did you see the fight against that giant Dutch guy? The ending to the fight is SO grotesque and, at the same time, SO hilarious, I think it's the most absurd moment yet in the series.
! And if that counts as a power-up, I'd say it's a pretty important power up. . . .I've been saying this for a while now: this series is incredible. The art style is supremely good, and the fight coreography is out-of-this world cool.
Specially when said sick-woman is fighting. It's un-fucking-believable.

Whenever Makie fights, I orgasm in ecstasy. Just for how much she brutalizes her enemies.

I don't think Manji has gotten weaker. If anything he's gotten stronger seeing he's finally been getting battle experience opposed to the start when his immortality dulled his skills.
-
Ah, thanks for the clarification on YYH. I guess I'll give it a shot sometime and jump on BOTI now.
How about HxH, then? I'm certain it's the same author, I've only seen a couple of negative posts here, otherwise, held in high regards from what I can gather.

Hunter X Hunter is fucking amazing, that is all. It's everything YYH couldn't be.

I would actually recommend watching the anime for this, I haven't seen it but from what I read in this forum its pretty good.
Im recommending tha anime because its a weekly show so maybe when the anime eventually ends maybe this hiatus in manga will be over and you can read the rest without waiting(until the next hiatus of course…...ugh). -
@Thousand:
I don't think Manji has gotten weaker. If anything he's gotten stronger seeing he's finally been getting battle experience opposed to the start when his immortality dulled his skills.
I distinctly remember coming up, that he acknowledges he's gotten more and more reckless as he accepted his state of immortality as a given, and his skills were dulled compared to the start of the series when he instagibbed Kuroi Sabato. He's gotten better since his realization, but large chunk of the series he was getting weaker and weaker (sloppier).
I don't think this is just fan observation, I'm pretty sure it was brought up in the actual manga.EDIT: It's getting off topic anyways, I like Mugenin but I actually like the author's shorts better.
His slice-of-life ohikkoshi and the weird surreal Halcion Lunch were both very funny and entertaining. -
After reading the HxH manga i thought that i look into the anime a bit. Is it worth watching and more importantly, which one is better, the 1999 or 2011 version?
-
The first one is good, pretty good even, has like no censorships and a very nice voice acting. Also it was faithful to the manga with only 2 or 3 filler episodes in the first part and some slight changes.
Oh and two cool opening themes. The OVAs that come after the Yorkshin arc are…okay/The new one is great, more faithful to the manga than the first one and Madhouse just discarded the censorship after the Hunter exam arc.
Both are good, but if you have to chose go with the 2011 one first because you don't want to be cockblocked by the end of the Greed Island arc and re watch the same anime in a different version after watching another one just a while ago.
But both are good. The 2011 is just a bit better (because of "Hunting for your dream" mainly)
-
Anybody know the status on Black Lagoon?
Is it finished? Long hiatus? or is it that there's no team of scanners translating and uploading it?
I wouldn't have a problem buying the whole series if it was for a reasonable price and translated in to English. So anybody know?
-
I have read that Hiroe Rei is diligently working on it and it is supposed to come out in October, if it is actually true is another matter though
-

His slice-of-life ohikkoshi and the weird surreal Halcion Lunch were both very funny and entertaining. The thing with Manji in BOTI/Mugen could be resumed easily: Samura never liked the character (or grow tired of him) so he got less and less spotlight moments, until he got degraded to a secondary character while the interesing bits of the story were happening to others.
It's pretty obvious that the female characters, the Itto-ryu members, Giichi or even Shira and Akagi got developed into much more rich and deep characters than Manji that ended stuck as the cocky chambara arquetype that gets slaughtered in every fight.
-
Kinda disagree. I always figured that the series developed to where it was about telling this story about this girl getting revenge for the death of her father where as it started out about some criminal swordsman who gained immortality. The initial story could've went somewhere, anywhere really but it was grounded to have the main character bond with this girl on her journey. I didn't think the revenge and how that would change in to what it is now would take this long to resolve but I still figured at some point after we'd get some stuff focused on Manji's past.

My favorite would be Master Keaton, although most will probably recommend Monster.
The currently ongoing Billy Bat is a great brainfuck.Although I find it somewhat boring, Liar Game is a popular choice.
I heartily recommend Master Keaton for all. It's probably one of the best mystery/drama series I have ever read.
Now, if only the rest of the chapters were translated as well…

If you haven't already, check out Real by Takehiko Inoue (author of Slam Dunk). It's in my opinion one of the best pieces of written fiction I have ever read.
-
Um…Zetman ?
It's not on the level of most of those in your list but it's definitely nice to read. Even if a lot of the events kinda lose their weight after they get explained.
But i don't know i personnally like when a manga tells you everything you need to know without teasing. If you haven't already, check out Real by Takehiko Inoue (author of Slam Dunk).
Judging from your answer, you still didn't read Vagabond. It's from Inoue too, and it's a must read.
-
I did read Vagabond! And I meant to write about it when I was last ranting how awesome Inoue is. Usually I just look at my bookshelf and go "I wish everyone would read this!" Latest addition is the english publication of Thermae Romae, also a very funny (and informative!) comic.
For my part, I always like to read comics that have a historical setting (Vinland Saga, Historie, Thermae Romae), perhaps some action but I also like mystery/drama genre (like Master Keaton I talked about earlier) so if you think I've missed something along those lines, gimme a shout.

Just read all of REAL (to date).
Amazing. SOOO Good. Thank you so much for the suggestions. -
I guess this is as good a place as any to ask: an good Western (the genre) manga out there. Westerns have always been some of my favorite stories, and it just dawned on me that outside of "Wanted" I haven't actually read any western manga. So, anyone have any recommendations?
-
I haven't actually read any Western mangas, but one i'm really looking forward is Flash - http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=56244 (by the creator of Gon). Try Green Blood, i think it's a good manga (at least the art is really good).
-
Flash looks interesting just from that cover image. Pity it's not available anywhere. I'll give Green Blood a shot, but I was kind of looking for something more traditional, like Wanted, or even what Flash looks like.
Thanks for the recommendations.
Anyone else of any other suggestions.

Have you tried Peace Maker by Ryouji Minagawa (Spriggan, ARMS)?
American Pioneer era gun-slinging action western. Runs in Ultra Jump.

Just read the first chapter and really liked it. Definitely along the lines of what I was looking for. Thanks!

When you look at the recommended mangas under Peace Maker you could see these two: Gun Frontier (Matsumoto Leiji) ( http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=26563 ) and Unreal Sundown ( http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=67338 ). Haven't read them though.
Btw i'd recommend you Blaster Knuckle! Summary from MU: Take yourself back to the 1880s where the KKK is thriving and the African American community lives in fear. The African Americans don't fear the KKK simply because they beat, rape, and kill them. No. They fear the KKK because the KKK eats them. They are the aptly named man-eaters, a kind of mix between werewolves and vampires. They consume human flesh, can shapeshift into various forms, and are practically immortal. Only one man, an ex-heavyweight boxer named Victor Freeman, dares to stand up to them. Equipped with a small arsenal and a set of modified brass knuckles, can our hero defend his people and avenge his past?
It's not a western manga, but the setting is kind of similar… It's a very berserk-ish manga and it's worth seeing for the art and violence alone! Heck it's the only manga i know with a black guy as the male lead. I think there are some gunfight scenes...
