I'm wondering why Luffy isn't feeling super weak, despite being tied up with Sea Stone. Is it a result of his training or maybe they accidentally put regular chains on him or something? Seems odd to me.
Chapter 673: Vergo and Joker

Whould could be the best line in the upcoming chapter ?
Franky asking for a coke (and getting it !).

did anyone else noticed that Vergo has something again to his cheek? i smell a powerful Devil Fruit http://www.batoto.net/read/_/112298/one-piece_ch673_by_mangarule/5

@The:
I'm calling it now: Doflamingo will be stationed in a very urban setting, the most urban setting seen in One Piece. Said urban setting will be similar to Las Vegas in the United States of America–Doflamingo is already dressed like a Las Vegas performer afterall, and he's a crimelord (underworld broker) of sorts. Old Las Vegas was known for its organized crime, as, most of you know.
He'll basically be on an "island of sin"; casinos, fancy restaurants, resorts (and clubs) etc. etc.
well wouldn't that be like rain dinners? huge impressive casino/resort located within a desert … run by the boss of an underground criminal organisation ...
can't wait to see what dofla is planning! :D glad that we finally get to know him better. hihi
however I do have to admit that I'm not too fond of all the similarities with the alabasta arc. most of you probably find it nostalgic and great but I find it a bit uninspired. the scene with the cage would have been enough to get that nostalgic feeling.

I'm not finding it nostalgic, really. This hard has been a little less exciting than expected. The island's extreme conditions are more plot-related than inherent to the island. The villain's design is far more like a generic anime character. His power has been done before, kinda. It makes little sense how everyone got defeated by him so easily. He doesn't seem that powerful. I like the secret science lab stuff, but that doesn't seem to be the spotlight. I'm more excited to see where this goes in regards to Law and Doflamingo than anything else.

Well, in the SH's defense, CC is a genius scientist, surpassed only by Vegapunk. He tested and examined the possibilities of his fruit and knows about Haki at least considering he is a genius working with a vice admiral so it is more than logical for CC to have found a way to cope with haki-users. He also has the Gas Gas fruit, which is a very dangerous substance, and a logia, and I don't find it hard to believe his gas could've taken them all out while they were thinking they were defeating CC. I think he is freakin' strong and I also think Vergo has a fruit or the hamburger sticking to his cheek was just a gag. Anyway, I think he has some kind of sticky fruit or a glue logia or whatever.
-
Vergo had the advantage of… "something" happening to Law as he was approaching him, reducing him to a pained wreck and slowing his reaction enough to let him wallop Law repeatedly without repercussions. If it is CoC, then that implies a lot about the difference in strength between them, and is essentially an impassable barrier. But Law wasn't reacting the way most people do when they are affected by CoC. He wasn't foaming at the mouth and he stayed conscious.
And I really doubt Doflamingo is heading towards an island right near the Red Line from where ever he currently is. If he's in Paradise, then that means he has to go through Fishman Island, in which case he was either trailing Luffy for some time, or it will take him at least four days to get there (three to get a ship coated, one to travel). If he's in the New World, then he's traveling through extremely dangerous seas to… what? Fight some kid that's already been captured? Watch him be killed by his resident mad scientist?
Oh, and having thought it over, Caribou probably does work for Doflamingo. If he worked for a Yonko, he'd probably try to use that as a shield against reprisal from other pirates, but if he was working for an underground broker who valued anonymity, he'd know better than to go spouting off his boss' name. It also fits well
=Edit=
Also, I agree with Luffyspissed. They are better suited to the opposite opponent.Shouldn't his Shichibukai status allow him to pass trough Mariejois?

Or chopper who undresses and walking in like a regular reindeer and being taken care of by Monet, when Vergo leaves he will turn into human point and smash the place up.

This has my full support.

I don't whicih I'd love to see more… a pervy harpy 'taking care' of a reindeer or have Chopper turning back to human and smash up the place....naked ... after all he DID take his clothes off ;)
-
I'm surprised how few people have really highlighted it yet, but do you all not find it significant that Franky is asleep during this chapter? The last time Franky was kidnapped by Caesar (Biscuits Room), no big wigs were to be seen at all. This time around, we not only didn't get to see Franky's fight with Caesar; we also have yet to see him interact with Monet or Vergo.
This is all very interesting when you account for the fact that Caesar explicitly wanted Franky's beam. Perhaps the "beam" will be a very important plot point later?
-

I doubt Luffy would be able to keep his mouth shut long enough for that to work.
I'm still betting on Franky of the other SH group saving them right now. Chopper's still close to immobile remember? It was the whole reason Usopp tried to tie him onto Law's head in the first place.
-
There is the possibility that Law changes Smoker back via Luffy's request, and Smoker could take Caesar down. If that happens I doubt Smoker would be like "HERE YOU GO! ONE 300MIL BOUNTY SCIENTIST FOR YOU PIRATES!" He'd defiantly take him into custody.
And then promotion? Promotion.
Especially if he exposes Vergo. -

i'd also like to point out a thing going on between robin and franky, they seem to be rather attached. He's sleeping on her lap here, when the slimes exploded on the g-5 ship she turned herself onto his arm/torso to block the light, saw 1 or 2 more things i think. Realistically though, they're roughly the same age i think? Won't happen before the epilogue IMO but i'll still bet on it.

They have been heavily shipped since Enies Lobby. I'm sure that Oda somewhat acknowledges it.
-
Chopper's gonna' save the day and that's for sure. I'm in 2 minds about the outcome of the CC vs. Nami + Usopp battle, if it even occurs, it could be a victory for 2 of the SH's most intelligent and cunning against an evil genius, however, I don't think that CC can go down that easily. Team Zoro're fxck shxt up in the not too distant future, but yeah, I feel as if their beef with the Smiley's a bit of a filler. Will the '[former] Weakling Trio' save the day? I guess that Smoker + Tashigi'll team up with the pirates to bust outta' here. I think that Vergo's just a mad-tough haki user. I think that the vulcanisation theory revolving 'round luffy's CoA-imbued punches is lovely, but I don't think it's quite true, because, Vergo's cane also turned a deep black when he smashed up Law last chapter. As for pulling Law to the floor from a distance? Maybe he can extend his haki or some shxt.
-
Seriously, I do not think Smoker will reach Admiral position. Be offered it eventually? Yes. But take the promotions that high? No.
Reason why I think so? He's too much like Garp, who was offered an admiral position back durign the time he chased after Roger. Garp denied the postion, claiming it would cramp his style … emain it would cat back the time he could focus on just chasing Roger. Re,e,ber that Admirals are beck & call of the tenryubito, plus many other duties.Smoker only wanted promotion so he could get into the New World to continue to chase Luffy, earlier (after Arabastra) he didn't want the promotion intially (because it was given under false pretense -that he "caught" Crocodile). Smoker wants to continue to chase Luffy, and becoming an Admiral could curtail that. So I think Smoker will do as Garp did and not take an Admiral position if it is ever offered.
If Luffy is the next Pirate King, then Smoker will be the next Hero of the Marines. As Garp was to Roger, Smoker will be to Luffy.
-
Seriously, I do not think Smoker will reach Admiral position.
He's a Logia with the epithet Hakuryō, which will soon be his alias. Of course he's going to be Admiral.
-
I can see it already.
Dofla, busting in like 'sup bitches?', having sloppy makeouts with his most trusted Vergo and then taking Law from the cage and being like 'bye bitches I got my bitch back~' and then going off to have sweet hot lovings with his ex-bitch.
STOP ME NOW.
-
I think that makes more sense than Dofla coming to PH and fighting Luffy there. Then again considering how easily Vergo handled Law who was on par with Smoker, Luffy beating Vergo anytime soon in my mind is doubtful. Vergo will own monster point Chopper and besides Chopper had to be carried to the lab so him using monster point anytime soon is doubtful. I'm hoping for a Zoro vs. Vergo fight, which will depend on Zoro getting to the lab before Franky wakes up.
If Luffy can't beat Vergo there might be a problem especially since he seems like he's going to end up being the big bad of this arc, as I highly doubt Dolfa is going to show up anytime soon.
I truly think Vergo's easy defeat of Law has nothing to do with power, and is more so a result of something that happened while Law served under Dofla. He's a Logia with the epithet Hakuryō, which will soon be his alias. Of course he's going to be Admiral.
Nah, he'll quit the marines and join up with Aokiji. He'll probably get offered the position, but something will be off. Heck, I'll go so far as to say that he might even be an admiral for a bit before learning something that bothers him (to really he already seems to be at that point with the marines/WG) and then he'll leave.
Either way, come the final war he'll be on Luffy's side, and will be the head of the new marines once they win.

Maybe…
Y'know, for the longest time, the marines didn't even seem that bad... Until we saw how cruel the higher-ups could be. -

zachri turning a thread into a wild Yaoi fan session? Seems legit.

I'm expecting a back track after Big Mom, maybe during or after. I could see Doflamingo going down to Fishman Island interested in Shirahoshi, which could lead to some reverie business as well. Ultimately I wonder if Luffy does destroy Fishman Island but through Doflamingo's puppetry.
-
Idk if this is an exact quote, but if It is then oda sort of hinted at doflamingos involvement in this situation. Remember when law and smoker were fighting in 662 and smoker asked who was "pulling the strings" (if this is one of many just as correct translations my observation is void) and law had a sort of surprised reaction? Yeah.

I thinking the same thing.Or luffy destroys Fishman island cuz Doflamingo took over Fishman.
-
Btw, Luffy, Robin and Co, seems to be healthy. That gas CC used to beat them must be some kind of soporific gas, not a toxic one. CC seems to be a bad joke. Something is wrong with that character. He got permission to kill SHs, and tried to do it with his weapons,… and then when he used his own powers on them he just put them to sleep? He may not know how to kill Luffy, since poison doesn't work on him, but what about Robin and Frankie? At least that he have received some counter-instructions, this is weak development of plot. Any ideas to find some sense to those results of CC's attack on Robin and Frankie?
And I want to add that this arc is fucking awesome!!!!!!!!
-
CC wants to capture the Strawhat's alive to run experiments on them (especially Franky), probably the main reason he doesn't want to kill them.
-

Also, I agree with Luffyspissed. They are better suited to the opposite opponent.I'm pretty sure since he works for the govt he can go through the route the marines use if he is in the first half. If he is in the New World I doubt someone of his power level is threatened by anyone but maybe a Yonkou. And I doubt the Yonkou want to deal with someone like him when they have other people causing trouble (like Luffy and Kid). I still think Vergo can own Law regardless, Law was even with Smoker and only beat him because Smoker probably doesn't know Law's powers like Vergo does as if he did then I doubt he'd have his heart encased into ice then removed. Still I could be wrong, I'm hoping for a Doflamingo explanation and Law explanation (about their DF powers).

Honestly, DD's organization having such a prominent person in the marines as a mole doesn't sit well with me, especially since this is the Akainu era.
Something tells me that no matter how this ends up, Vergo will be defeated, go limping back to HQ…and once he gets there, Akainu'll be sitting at his office desk, ready to give hamburger guy a heaping help of magma fist justice.

It makes plenty of sense that Vergo was able to infiltrate the marines. Doflamingo (Joker) is known to keep things hidden, and he does it pretty well. How he got in during the Sengoku era is the real question though.
I have a feeling that if Vergo is defeated, Smoker will take him into custody.
-
Oh, I'm not saying that it doesn't make sense, because it totally does. What I am saying is that something about it makes me kind of…ill.
In other words, it's something I foresee being correctly very quickly. I mean, what more could you ask for to reintroduce Akainu? You've got a traitorous, scumbag marine, as well as a potential devil fruit power and/or quirk just full of irony when applied to a magma power.

If Doflamingo is defeated soon, we'll get a reintroduction to Akainu when he has to pick a new warlord. That's what I see happening anyway.

You've made me curious about that picture so I tried to find it right away. And guess I'm lucky:

i'm interested in what's going to happen next to sami/ussopp, afterall CC just caught up to them fairly easily (possibly signs of CoO) and i'm pretty sure even in sanji's body there isn't much they could do against him, unless one of the pop greens absorbs noxious gasses, master troll Oda bringing Ussopp up in the world.
-
^Right. It almost seems as if it were a clue for them to say in explicit terms, "The only three of us who can fight him are haki users - you other guys are screwed." Although Oda will probably deny it of us, there would be something so satisfying about Usopp taking down a major arc villain.
(And as suggested previously, there is a possibly positive matchup at play here.)

I think the real clue is that Nami has taken out her Clima-Tact for the first time since getting on the island.

It would be a perfect spot for ODa to show Usopp still has dials. He could use an impact dial to make CC go fully gaseous, then use a dial (same he used to hold explosive gas back on Water 7) to absorb CC.
I really, REALLY would love to see that. Not only do I love Usopp, I want to see that he hasn't thrown away usign dials. IT's not in Usopp's character to not use something useful and count only on one source/type of ammo

So are the spoilers coming early this week? I thought I read someone say that there was a holiday sometime this week, and we might be getting spoilers early. Would be really great!

not sure on that but do know Obon should be coming up sometime soon (but not this week)
Accordign to Wikipedia, Obon is a 3 day holiday that is celebrated at different times in different areas of Japan
quote from Wikipedia
[HIDE] The festival of Obon lasts for three days; however its starting date varies within different regions of Japan. When the lunar calendar was changed to the Gregorian calendar at the beginning of the Meiji era, the localities in Japan reacted differently and this resulted in three different times of Obon. "Shichigatsu Bon" (Bon in July) is based on the solar calendar and is celebrated around 15 July in eastern Japan (Kantō region such as Tokyo, Yokohama and the Tohoku region), coinciding with Chūgen. "Hachigatsu Bon" (Bon in August) is based on the lunar calendar, is celebrated around the 15th of August and is the most commonly celebrated time. "Kyu Bon" (Old Bon) is celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, and so differs each year. "Kyu Bon" is celebrated in areas like the northern part of the Kantō region, Chūgoku region, Shikoku, and the Ryukyu Islands. These three days are not listed as public holidays but it is customary that people are given leave. [/HIDE]
