Looks like it'll be pretty awesome. I just wish they would settle on a damn date already. Teases.
Real shame about Spoony and in spite of his actions my heart goes out to him. I am glad that in spite of what's happened Linkara still cares about him as a friend. And that's all I will say about that since I know most people want to try and move on.
:ninja:

Second that! Love me some CR!
I wish Spoony well, hopefully he'll get his things in order and those bridges can be rebuilt sometime.
And I think that the TGWTG people have said that the 4th year anniversary will be the last one of this magnitude, which is understandable - they can't really go much bigger with basically amateur crew. I'm expecting some epic conclusion to the anniversary saga, although my general interest in TGWTG outside of NC and Spoony (with occasional Angry Joe and Linkara) has been pretty low in the last year. Some of those guys in the trailer are totally new to me.
And I think that the TGWTG people have said that the 4th year anniversary will be the last one of this magnitude, which is understandable - they can't really go much bigger with basically amateur crew.
Well, it'd be great if they could still do one for the 5th year anniversary. After that, they can take a long break and (if the site even lasts that long) they can do one for the 10th year anniversary.
I'm sure they'll continue to do an Anniversary event, probably not something like this though. It'd be cool if they did a huge live stream event for Year 5 or something.
Oh yeah, they will surely do some kind of an anniversary, it's just that the whole thing keeps getting bigger and more ambitious and there's nowhere to go soon. So this might be the last big "movie-like" anniversary, at least in a while.
i still love the first anniversary with the epic battle vs AVGN
Reading comments on Spoony's site makes me want to die
According to his journal entry, CR became a Youtube Partner and needed $20 dollars more to get paid from Youtube. You only get paid from Youtube if you make 100 dollars, if not it carries over to the next month. This is an expensive month for him and needed more views. Within a few hours he maded. But he's keeping up the journal for people who want a link to his videos.
Phelous tries something a little different and reviews Aladdin….
! …and the Magic Lamp. Yeah, it's one of those cheap dollar store knockoffs. Although it's actually a heavily edited version of a French movie.

@RobbyBevard:
Spoony has apparently been officially diagnosed (by a doctor and everything) with bipolar 2 disorder.
So.
Yeah.
Doesn't excuse his actions but… does explain them.
I'd say it does rather more than explain them. I know quite a few people with mental issues, some quite close to me, and if anyones got an excuse for being annoying super-bitches, which they often are, it's them. I'm tired, and not about to write an essay on my experience with mental ilnesses, but suffice to say I feel terrible on Spoonys behalf. Having someone decimate their social life because of something they have no control over is a terrible thing that I've seen happen several times, but usually the awareness of the illness -including for the afflicted- allows it to be mended. I can only hope that the same will happen for Spoony once everyone is adjusted to the new status quo of his diagnosis.
Anyway, enough about that. So, the anniversary trailer…eh, I'm rather indifferent. I weren't a big fan of the last one, I don't think the writing was all that good, and the concept of throwing reviewers into a motion picture has never clicked for me. I'm just looking forward to a normal NC schedule again, he really got his Mojo back lately.

Don't think of it as a bunch of reviewers making a movie. Think of it as a bunch of friends.

Watching that video makes me feel more nostalgic than most other things Nostalgia Chick reviewed, although now I got mmmBop stuck in my head again. Surprising to see that Westlife didn't make it - I guess they aren't that popular in America? Because in my home country they're really huge, probably even more popular than the other boy bands on that list (okay, maybe not BSB).
In other news, I found this: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/sns-rt-us-socialmedia-blip-expansionbre85r1me-20120628%2C0%2C7468528.story
I'm not exactly sure how it works and how it will help them, but it seems to be largely positive, so congratulations to the three of them. I'm also impressed by Todd's rapid rise in popularity - sure, pop music might grab a wider target audience then say Linkara and his comicbooks, but it's still a major step forward for someone who's been on the site for only two years now. Not that I mind, really, he's my favorite reviewer there.

Todd has a lot of things going for him compared to some of the others on the site. That pop music is more broad IS part of it, but its not the only thing.
1)Todd is actually really funny and clever, and usually pretty brief. His current videos hit closer to the 20 minute mark, but his older ones were generally closer to 10.
2)He's constantly crossing over with Nostalgia Chick, so they're sharing and feeding their popularity. (And Chick crosses over with Critic more than pretty much anyone else, so same thing.)
3)Excellent line delivery and performance. No hard to listen to accent (Like Benzaie) or over the top fake personality where the sarcasm FEELS scripted and slightly unnatural (Like Lupa or Film Brain). He has a persona, but its pretty close to himself.
(Really. Fim Brain is fun, but the way he emphasizes certain words for effect to make it clear he's joking or being sarcastic just sounds weird most of the time.)
And since you brought up Linkara specifically… Yes, old comics are a slightly more limited audience, but Linkara has a couple big things going against him.
1)Linkara often reviews multi part stories... but starts a 4 part review and then takes months to get around to doing parts 2, 3, and 4.
2)While Todd does have brief NC based story setups, he never spends say, 40 minutes out of a 45 minute review doing a skit where he fights a monster... which in itself is the fifth part to an ongoing storyline of unconnected reviews.
3)That he has 45 minute episodes to begin with. That's okay once in a great while as a special (The NC crossover Moulin Rogue review, for instance) , or for casual ramblings (like Spoony's) if you're naturally charismatic and a good storyteller, but thats a lot of time to be listening to someone putting on a scripted angry frustrated act... especially when they only have 5 or 10 minutes of material

This is the most jarring think about Linkara. He starts up reviewing a story, barely scratches the surface, and then either never returns to it again or continues it like one year later, and we're supposed to still somehow give a damn. And he does this week after week after week.
Realy, the show would be so much better if he continously focused on a story from begining to end, then maybe did some one shots, then back to a complete rundown and so on, instead of leapfroging between four different ongoing plots in a single month.
Plus I hate and I mean hate his storylines. He has either himself menacing himself while he tries to save himself with the help of himself (which gets realy tiresome due to the minimum amount of effort he puts into some constumes, like that ensign character from Star Trek that was literaly just him with a starfleet uniform, similar to another starfleet uniform he had on as himself later), or when he does get other people to play the roles, they're just not that good. Not just because of their acting, but because, well, Linkara's dialogue, at least what he writes for his live action scenes, is rather…..bad. And I mean realy bad 90's Live Action show bad. His villains don't any charm and the lines they recite are bereft of anything interesting or clever, they just sound realy bored and non interesting. As someone else here put it there's only so long you can listen to the Entity talking about "destroying everything so I can absorb everything so I can become everything" before you're just too embarassed to continue watching. The same with that one scene where he and Liz "fought" their "clones", I simply couldn't finish watching it.
Plus there's times when his fanwanking getting into the script can realy grind the video to a halt. Like in his Power Ringers review where he went on an absolutely blody tirade about how "a character was just horribly murdered !" in a scene where a guy's torn to pieces comedicaly like paper. It seemed like his obsession with the source material has him take offence at completely legitimate things and think it's absolutely okay to rant his head off about them.
Finaly, there's just this sort of….self glorification aspect to his storylines, about him constantly getting new powers, acquiring spaceships, beating gods. I know that other people think it's just part of the stories he does, but it realy does bother me on a personal level.
But I still do watch him and like when he's actualy reviewing stuff. Not when he's flailing in front of a green screen pretending to be beating up aliens.
So what is all this Spoony drama about? Can someone brief me and cure me of this ignorance?

Also the whole mystery man gimmick doesn't hurt. And the fact that he's dating the Nostalgia Chick which gives him extra appeal for the shippers.

He snapped, started insulting fellow site members and as a result got kicked off TGWTG, and was later diagnoses with a bipolar disorder.

And yet when Phelous does the same thing (no innuendo intended I swear !) with Lupa, people say that's when he's at his worst.
Thank you No Maam.
@No:
And yet when Phelous does the same thing (no innuendo intended I swear !) with Lupa, people say that's when he's at his worst.
That's mainly because it takes Phelous away from doing what he's none for: really shitty horror movies.
Though he really does seem to have run that well dry. He hasn't done a horror movie reviews so sporadically now.
And when he's with Lupa he's really not in character. Neither one of them really are. Which works for Lupa a bit, but so much of Phelous' reviews are based in his dead pan shtick.
So it definitely didn't help that they had an 8 part review together.
@No:
And yet when Phelous does the same thing (no innuendo intended I swear !) with Lupa, people say that's when he's at his worst.
Todd and Chick keep it down to a running stalker gag (which has gotten stale by now) but basically stay in character (since their characters are pretty close to themselves) and run the scripted reviews like normal. Phelous and Lupa… totally break character and do different material entirely.

Yeah that suprised me as well. A whole bunch of unheard one hit wonders and no mention of the band who had a huge hit a month through out the 90's
I just did a quick Wiki and not only did Westlife form in the very late '90s (and therefore most of their top hits in the '00s), they were never truly popular in the states, with only one no. 1 hit on their name.
Huh. Guess that whole area just bloats together for me. I always thought of Westlife as a 90's band.
Still blows my mind that they are unheard of in the states. Wonder what other international sensations you guys have missed
I don't get the hatred of the storylines. Just don't watch them. People who like them like them, people who don't aren't forced to watch them (they're all placed after the credits).
If the guy finds doing storylines fun, power to him. We want our reviewers happy.

This is another thing that gives Spoony's fanbase such a bad rep. They are furious about storylines, they insult TGWTG collaborators and insist that Spoony should just go back to 2008 and do 10-minute game reviews (with a shitty camera to add credibility).
I mean, who can claim that Spoony's fights with Tidus and Yuna weren't funny as hell? Or Dr. Insano being elected as president.
God I hate Spoony fans

I mean no offense to you but I hate this argument. It's like telling people here that they'd like Naruto if they skip all the bad parts. I'm going for the complete product as it is offered to me.
I could go on a long tirade about how much I dislike storylines in reviews as a general rule but the thing is if it's added to the video I'm not going to skip it for a number of reasons which I'll try to keep as brief as I can.
It's unfair to the people who tried to put a story together (for all of my misgivings about Linkara he does put a considerable amount of effort into what he does and I can respect that at the very least). It's unfair to the criticism of the reviewer themself if I'm grading their work on what I or others choose to see as opposed to the entire collection. And it's close minded of me and detrimental to my experience as a whole if I choose to skip storyline stuff because there can be legitimately good moments or good jokes that I'd otherwise completely miss out on.
So I may not enjoy most story stuff that reviewers try to awkwardly cram into their videos (the one exception I have currently is Spoony but that's another story) but skipping it is just dumb.
Why is it unfair to the reviewer to not watch something of his or hers you don't like? No one has any obligation to watch it, no matter how hard the reviewer worked on it–and the reviewer knows that as well. Closed minded? Look, life is too short to slog through something you hate because you want to "grade the reviewer based on his or her WHOLE oeuvre" or because "there might be a good joke in there." It is NOT detrimental to your experience, it's very undetrimental.

If a guy has good videos and keeps slathering them in pointless stuff that makes them unappealing to the viewer, how the hell wouldn't that viewer have a legit problem with the guy.
Because the "pointless stuff" is tacked on at the end, clearly separated from the review proper. It's there if you like it (and some do). If you don't, ain't nobody sticking your head to the monitor.
So, according to Todd's twitter he's about to post a new review (it's rendering now,) and when he does "people are going to want answers. And I'm not going to have any."
And my curiosity is officially soaring.

I don't know if this is your intention or if this is merely the interpretation I'm making from your post (if the latter is the case feel free to correct me) but no obligation does not mean the work can't be objectively evaluated.
Really the whole "no obligation" argument is terrible one in general. By that logic the folks over at the Bleach/Naruto superthread don't have to keep reading or can choose not to read the bad parts of the stories can't they? The videos made by these reviewers are publically released on the internet for anyone to see. There's not a single rule saying I have to be a fan in order to view their videos, storylines and all.
And sorry if I'm coming across too harsh about this but you've missed the point entirely when I said it's detrimental for me not to see the complete picture. I'm not intentionally going out of my way to look for awful things to complain about. I want to be proven wrong. I want the things I watch to be enjoyable. To name such an example Linkara's end to the Missingno story arc did legitimately surprise me since I was 100% sure he was just going to fight it and win Mary Sue style. Who knows, maybe his videos will actually become watchable to me if he improves again like that? That's why I'm watching.
The people over on the BLEACH/Naruto thread keep reading it because they enjoy it. They enjoy picking it apart, it's fun. By heaping shit on the series, they're having a blast.
Even when Linkara surprised you with the Missingno twist, were you having fun? Were you enjoying yourself? Or was it a "hmm nod nod, you did something different, I guess I should tally one up for the PROS list." What's the point of such mechanical watching?
You don't have to be a fan to watch a video, of course. But then why bother? If it's not enjoyable, you're doing a disservice both to yourself and to the reviewer. It's not like the reviewer wants people who hates his or her shit to watch his or her shit–everyone recognizes that people have different tastes, especially when it comes to storylines.

Todd has no excuses for this one.
How about the excuse of awesomeness
The people over on the BLEACH/Naruto thread keep reading it because they enjoy it. They enjoy picking it apart, it's fun. By heaping shit on the series, they're having a blast.
But you've still missed the point. Would those series on their own intentional merits be better if I were to just skip the awful parts since I'm trying to look at it objectively? Or should I not read them at all since I wouldn't be a fan of their level of "quality" and have no obligation to read them anyways? This is the exact line of logic you are using here.
Even when Linkara surprised you with the Missingno twist, were you having fun? Were you enjoying yourself? Or was it a "hmm nod nod, you did something different, I guess I should tally one up for the PROS list." What's the point of such mechanical watching?

Actually yes, I was legitimately enjoying myself because the conclusion to that particular arc works in ways other than it just catching me off guard. To sum it up as best as I can, it makes Linkara out to be less of a Mary Sue that wins every fight by shooting it with his Power Ranger toys and how Missingno is defeated (by pointing out it has no plan or reason why it's doing anything) actually relates to what he reviews. It's making the transition from review to storyline not jarring like pulling the emergency brake while moving on the congested business loop type of transition he ended up doing during the Mechakara arc.
Was it perfect? No, in fact I would've shaved off a few minutes of dialogue near the end to make the video flow better. But it was actually enjoyable by it's own merits. And not simply because it's better than what came before but because the improvement proves that Linkara at least has the potential to make something that even someone who doesn't like storylines as a general rule.
Call that anecdotal if you will but even though I wouldn't call myself a fan of Linkara, just skipping his storyline stuff is a disservice to both myself and to Linkara who clearly is aware that not everyone cares for what he had done and is trying to amend it so everyone can enjoy it. So I don't see why I can't offer the same courtesy to any other reviewer on the TGWTG site or elsewhere despite not being a fan and just trying to find news things I might enjoy objectively.
All right, you can do them that courtesy of constructive criticism if you like. But my argument still stands. It's just that we value different things.
You know…I can respect this. Sometimes, we just gotta get things off our chest and talk about them, and really, several of these scenes deserve mention. Namely History of Violence, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids, and Power Rangers.
Also, Todd confessing his fandom of Power Rangers as a kid was adorable.
Really, if I had to do countless videos on one subject, and one subject only, I'd want to do shit like this.

Exactly. You've gotta mix it up creatively or else you'll go crazy.
Yup, that was really something. I think it's great for reviewers (and artists in general) to occassionally just let loose and do something stupid and fun. Also, glad to see we have another Power Rangers fan.
