Jesus Christ Superstar is the fucking best thing ever. Movie version anyway.
Zeph, have you ever heard of the Zed Yago ?

Anyone else here a big fan of these ?
I love them to death, especialy Helloween. Also Zed Yago was absolutely amazing (I don't know if they're still around)
Music from Helloween as an explanation why I love them so damn much
I did listen to some of them. I guess that's only natural when you're a metalhead and from Germany. ^^ Though I see myself more in the thrash metal corner in recent years, power metal was the starter drug.
Halloween is pretty good. However sometime I think they good a bit too much for the falsetto and you really have to like that to enjoy the song. The German Power Metal Band I listened the most to is probably Blind Guardian. Followed by Edguy. And yes, Zed Yago still exists.
Btw this would fit really well into the Metal thread. The topic might be a tad bit too specific for it's own thread. Since there's probably like 3 people on the forum regularly listening to German Power Metal Bands :D
I'm a big fan of Blind Guardian and Helloween myself.
In general, Power Metal is pretty much the only type of metal I listen to on a regular basis.
Nooo mod's we have a Metal thread! :D
You probably have heard them, but if you haven't, listen to Gamma Ray (Kai Hansen's band) and Masterplan (Grapow and Kusch's band) as they are both ex-Helloween members bands. Also you can never go wrong with some Running Wild.

Chameleon, the album that contains this song, is probably the less Helloween album ever. I kinda like it, but it's different from anything else they've done both before and after.
Chameleon? As in The Chameleons?

I sometimes wish I could sing as well as Judas in the movie. That man's voice…such power.
RIP Carl Anderson.

Nah, he's probably thinking of that Drive Like Jehu song…
You guys didn't need to go so underground. . . I was obviously refering to the master himself:
Which btw is actually much better than anything posted in this thread.
All hail THE KING!

No the Helloween album :P
I need to diversify my listenings for new music, but I've got a few new albums I've been loving (some from earlier in the year, some just released):
nnnnnnnnn i FUCKING LOVE country collabs/jams so much right now

Nice choice. Just listened to the new Absu record as well. Ton of great riffs and definitely getting a few spins.
Just thought I should post this for any fans of Nujabes. New album just got released. Pretty good instrumentals.
Nujabes is dead. It's not a new album, it's a compilation of stuff that never got released.
The year is coming to an end! Now's the time for us to whip out our musical schlongs and spray top lists into the internet's flinching face! So just what did you guys listen to from this year?
I still haven't composed a formal top 10, but here are the albums I enjoyed most in no particular order:
Absu - Abzu
Ash Borer - Ash Borer
Autopsy - Macabre Eternal
Devin Townsend Project - Deconstruction
Ghoul - Transmission Zero
Giles Corey - Giles Corey
Gridlink - Orphan
Iceage - New Brigade
The Men - Leave Home
Midnight - Satanic Royalty
Mitochondrion - Parasignosis
The Mountain Goats - All Eternals Deck
Opeth - Heritage
Rwake - Rest
Skeletonwitch - Forever Abomination
Speedwolf - Ride With Death
Tombs - Path of Totality
Touché Amoré - Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me
Toxic Holocaust - Conjure and Command
Trap Them - Darker Handcraft
I've only listened to just over one hundred albums this year, but those stand out as my favorites. A lot of metal in particular, this year, but that was my main focus this year around. I may have to do a final pass through the years albums to diversify it a bit, haha.
I only listened to Era Extraña by Neon Indian. Enjoyed it. I need to listen to Heritage by Opeth. I'll probably listen to some of the albums you listed too  .
Why have i only just truly discovered frank zappa?!
Its like a white alternative to jimmy hendrix.
Listening to Heritage right now and it's kind of the middle ground between their death metal albums and Damnation. Also none of the songs are over 10 minutes .

Frank Zappa continues to be god. Only he could write such absolutely absurd, stupid and absolutely genius music. Also, as it so happens, Zappa and Hendrix were good friends. There are a few interesting results from their friendship. The most historically interesting one is that Zappa introduced Wah Wah into Jimi's life.

Heritage spoke so much to the prog nerd inside me. It's like Uriah Heep knocked up King Crimson during a hot three-way with Deep Purple. It was a hell of a fun album and probably my favorite of theirs after Blackwater Park (which is saying something, since I typically enjoy the death metal part of their sound more than most people). It definitely takes the cake as prog release of the year for me (though the only other two I can remember caring about are Steven Wilson's solo album and The Tangent's new release, the former of which felt like straight up King Crimson worship and the latter was pretty much more of the same, as much as I love the band).
Edit: I forget Hammers of Misfortune's new album for prog fare. Only listened to it once, wasn't impressed, but it keeps getting high marks in the communities I frequent, so it might be worth spinning again.

Uhhhhhhh, what? I don't remotely see how they're similar.
looks up 2011 in music to see if I missed anything good
sees new, non-Hillbilly Joker Hank III albums
scrambles for money

Have you never listened to them just jamming out?
I heard this tune the other day and waited 8 minutes thinking it was some random hendrix tune i never heard, only to have Zappas name at the end. The style is insanely similar.
Admittedly most of the songs are completely different, but when it comes down to fun and expressionism on a string they are one and the same. I'm still looking for the song to show what i mean.
Also here's a quality interview with Zappa.
Its about 8 minutes long and is literally just a guitar solo with not much else aside from the drummer and bass guitarist.
Checks music thread again to see if, maybe this time, I know what anyone's talking about
Hmm….....................nope.

Yeah I'll need to hear it.
Granted I'm not anything remotely approaching well heard on Zappa, but I never heard anything of his that made me think of Hendrix.
I hate! and i mean hate when i have to search hours to find a tune. I can't even suss out which station it was on, otherwise i would have it in my bloody hands!
It does exist damnit.
Also wanted to point out Zappas playing is insanely diverse. He has probably played solo's that have mimicked several famous guitarists in his career. All this i've sussed in the last 7 hours of researching and chilling to almost everything he's produced that i can find.
Every time a new person discovers Frank Zappa's music, an angel gets its wings. Or maybe a devil, I'm not sure.
So, I just recently searched through my old records and rediscovered the joy that is Bolt Thrower.
Also found some stuff from Autopsy, Artillery, Death Angel, Demolition Hammer and Onslaught. This has me brought back to the death/thrash path I strayed from these past few years, are there some good albums out there that I missed out on?
I listened to something by Bolt Thrower just a bit ago but can't really remember if I liked it or not. Opeth is really good death metal I think. Not death metal, but a band called Hell just recently released their first album after forming in the 80s, which I picked up because I liked quite a bit of the songs on it.
Here's one of the songs from the album:
The lead singer was apparently an actor that they picked up after their original lead singer died, I think. I really like how he sings.
There's been a lot of great recent death metal. I'm just going to post a bunch regardless of sub classification:

It's a start.
Ah, I remember Hell. And your recommended songs were a good start, Wagomu. I'll have to get into extreme metal again, it seems.
But first, german liedermaching.
I'm posting this everywhere because I'm so excited.
I don't know if this'll combine into the above post but oh well.

A full song off of that album.
Got Tommy by The Who in the mail the other day. Damn good album I must say. It's always great to listen to a series of songs that have a story to them, and I think they all flowed pretty well.
My personal favorite songs are Christmas, Go to the Mirror, and Sally Simpson (and yes, Pinball Wizard is great too). I'll have to read album pamphlet and look at the lyric sheet next time I listen to it so I can get a better grasp of the story. Also, I kinda wanna check out the movie adaptation.
Can't stop listening to aggressive hiphop right now.
I'm looking for more music that sounds like this, any suggestions?
Groups i already know:
Wu Tang Clan
Army of the Pharaohs
Demigodz
Jedi Mind Tricks
Snowgoons
Tyler the Creator? Tupac? Can't think of anything else atm
Lookee what I found

That's a bit old, but still awesome and pretty damn accurate. I can't complain with its selections too much (except for including Djent as a genre, which I don't accept).
There should be a sub-forum for music.
This'll do I suppose
Anyway I just felt like posting this

I just wanted to let you know that because of your sig I checked out River City Extension and I think they are awesome. New fan.
Now, my favorite band just released a teaser for their new music video. I am just excited so I wanted to post this.
=)
They've put up 2 songs from their new album, and have played another song from the album live if you want to get a feel for it.
There and Back Again
Welcome to Pittsburgh
And Ballad of Oregon
Ballad of Oregon is definitely my favorite so far.
resurrects two month old thread with news on one of the biggest stars of rock n' roll declining induction to Hall of Fame
replies are to Zona for his River City Extension sig
forever alone :(
I never really liked Guns and Roses so that's the reason for my lack of caring. And you didn't say what was in your link so people might not have clicked on it for that reason.
And River City Extension is awesome.
Same. Havent cared about GnR for years and i never cared about the hall so…meh.
You know the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is worthless when even Guns n Roses don't want anything to do with it.
