So you can wait months for the chapter to get published but can't wait a couple of days for scans.
Berserk

The inquiry has already been addressed, I see no need in poking jabs at the poster. Who wouldn't want to get it early, haven't you read the last chapter, SERIOUS CLIFFHANGING :S
-
If it was a few weeks with no sign of scans I'd understand but it's only been a few days since the chapter came out.
-
Just saying, it just a waste of time. Oh well

For those who can't wait. Berserk chap 327 is out in mangareader.

Reading this must be a pain in the ass.
Not at all. You are just suddenly surprised when a new chapter is out some months later.

So what's the deal with that kid in Caska's arms? Is she the source of the spirit guiding Guts?
Do you guys think that he/she has anything to do to Gut's and Caska's child? -

Yes.

Do you guys think that he/she has anything to do to Gut's and Caska's child? It is Guts and Caska's child. Caska was pregnant prior to the Eclipse. When Griffith raped Caska his, uh, "influence" twisted the child into a demon, but it remained loyal to Caska (which is why Caska wasn't straight up tortured in the Tower arc). Though it sort of "died" but was reborn in the Egg of the New World Apostle and that's why it shows up from time to time in a more humanoid and less malformed appearance.
Also I'm almost certain the child is a he, but it's been awhile since I've reread Berserk.
-
Yeah. He shows up really early in the series in the form of a demon looking fetus. I think while Guts was in that prison.

That was NOT a good part of the series to try and follow in raw manga form. Nearly everything else I could follow more or less just from observing the art, but that part… was complicated.

huh, thanks for clearing that up.
I really must re-read this series -
First movie comes out on DVD and bluray May 23rd in Japan.

And I actually think I just found a more depressing manga than this plotline…
I think it's called GANTZ...

By depressing do you mean bad.
-
@Monkey:
By depressing do you mean bad.
By depressing I mean it broke my heart more than twice reading it. I read up to chapter 186, and I could show you what I mean if you read up to that point. I wept.
-
Probably not a good idea since I quit Gantz out of hating it so much for being a juvenile shittily paced 16 year old's wet dream. I did that when I was 16 too.
-
I think you're just being a hater. Gantz has its moments. Or had…
-
No, Gantz is pretty terrible. It pretends to be mature by having death and boobs in it, but…
The fact that the abridged series is far more watchable with far more likeable and memorable versions of the characters says it all I think.
and from the same guy that did Berserk Abridged, at that.
-
Gantz went from terrible to being decent to being terrible again .
-
Always liked Gantz. Top notch character development. Shame Oku stopped caring.
-
I keep meaning to catch up on Berserk, and it sounds like at the pace it's authored I don't have much to cover even after years.
Also I've never read Gantz but everytime I'm shown a page it's pretty goddamn hilarious in the worst way.
-
The faces never look right to be in Gantz. Like whenever there's supposed to be an emotional moment I can't get around how weird the faces can look. Berserk doesn't have that problem for obvious reasons.
-
Gantz is bad.
Objectively.
-
Why does Gantz always find its ugly head into this thread?
I mean, I'm not sure why exactly it's bad but I could not make it past the first chapter since the main character was such a douchebag."Shit I wish to see a body splatter to death under a train so help me god oh shit I got splattered to death instead oh well DAYUM naked chick in room cuz i'm in heaven and i want to have sex wit her now"* finishes Gantz*
-
I just really really hate the art.
-
It was okay for a while. Sometimes having an asshole as a main character is a great thing. It was when it became evident that we were not dealing with an asshole, but rather a douchebag, that it all went downhill. That didn't take very long at all.

That's Gantz in a nutshell, except eventually you realize that that person having those thoughts the entire time is the author.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Cyan:
I just really really hate the art.
It's overly clinical and cold. And the people's eyes have this sort of Uncanny Valley thing going on.
-
I really hate how the robots and backgrounds are toned to fuck-all so you can't tell what the christ is going on.
-
Mostly that's because the art in Gantz is done using CG modeling software that then has parts drawn onto it. So it tends to look not drawn normally. Like not everything is part of the same universe., and a lot of stuff blurs together. It comes off as he's trying to put as much detail and stuff into the scene to make it more "action movie-ish". Which, in manga often doesn't work out too well.
I far prefer the way it's done in Berserk, which is kind of the opposite. There's tons and tons of stuff in a lot of images, but it always looks attractive to the eye and not artificial. Like the scenes with all the merrows or the ones with the creatures inside the Sea God.

The forced deaths of most characters in Gantz for no real purpose other than APPEAR "dark" does not even begin to compare to the Eclipse in Berserk. End of story.

Yeah I totally understand what you mean. In Gantz, I cannot make out what's happening a lot of the time. Most recently, that giant creature that fought Kei and killed Reika ('that her name?). The art was so off I didn't even get what the hell I was looking at. Berserk however is simply beautiful.

trailer for the second berserk movie
badass -
Berserk is awesome ofc, but I get the feeling that it's become too shonen-like recently. The presence of the kids (Isidoro and co) is keeping the emotional carnage at bay. In the beginning there was a lot of sex scenes, but now they've pretty much all vanished… The same thing happened in Gantz. The sex scenes where everywhere in the beginning, but when people finally have a sex scene they want to see (KuronoxReika), the author decides to stop...
It's my terrible theory that most seinen manga start out looking gruesome and then become watered down later. I guess mangas that have no sex scenes like Fist of the north star or something aren't affected, but still...
-
You said sex scenes 4 times.
-
Or just maybe the lack of sex, rape, sex, sex, and gore are a sign that things aren't so bleak for Guts and co.
-

Are you the protagonist from Gantz? This post was really hard to sympathize with or read.
-

Basically I'm saying the gruesomeness from the beginning of the manga (like the eclipse and so on) has kind of faded away, and the boring cycle of "oh look there's monsters" and "oh look Gutts cut em down" has taken it's place.
They need to hurry up and make it to this elf paradise and wake up Caska so the shit can hit the fan again.
@Hiroy: Was that a bit clearer or do you still think I'm Kurono? To make things extra clear, I enjoy Gutt's emotional agony, his physical pain doesn't really matter much anymore. And we've been lacking his emotional anguish for awhile now.

I too judge stories on how much blood and boobs are in it.

It's not so much the story but the genre. When it starts to lose that which makes it seinen, what do you call it?
-
Actually seinen isn't necessarily a genre that's just dictated by the amount of gore/sexuality in it. One of my favorite manga, Hourou Musuko, also known as Wandering Son, has zero nudity nor gore yet it's techinically still under the seinen genre just due to the themes present within the story.

Who gives a shit.

Which isn't really a good thing. I enjoyed the series much more during the flashback and when it was only Guts and puck mainly because of the extremely dark atmosphere. During the flashback even when everything seemed great you just knew something was gonna happen to fck sht up, and when it did happen, you were completely mindf*cked. Now Casca is retarded and shows no sign of becoming cool again, guts has softened up too much and the whole companionship of the berserker thing they have going leaves me in doubt that anything dark, like the death of one of the companions, is ever going to happen. I just wish Miura pulled another Eclipse on us or that guts' curse started working again. Afterall, don't we all miss the foreboding aura of impending doom that surrounded guts when he had a full functional curse? Oh well, i just hope the series doesn't take too long to return on the righteous way again, with more Griffith and Guts badassery and a few more important deaths.
Well,at least it's better than Gantz, where everything is going totally haywire and stuff… -

Personally I don't care about the sex/rape, or gore. The main reason why I got into this manga is the atmosphere it produced. It was just so dark and cold. Guts being alone with Puck/Pakk (whatever his name is), gave you a sense of danger, and helplessness (I can't find the proper words), whenever night came you knew something messed up is going to happen. The first arc, the flashback, the eclipse, and the tower arc, had all extremely dark atmospheres, and that's what made it so awesome. Now I feel it just became a group of people travelling from place to place, killing monsters. I'm not saying that it's bad,I just miss the dark atmosphere.
-
Berserk still seems to the same to me.
Guts just lost everything he had at numerous points in his life, and now he has something and a goal worth fighting for.
It's not a change of tone or anything. Hell, the premise of Guts being this lone warrior wasn't even all that important(that was just something he pretended to be to escape being attached to people)
I dunno. I think some of you read this series for all the wrong reasons. -
Haha, so by that logic Vinland Saga and Vagabond are not seinen anymore.
Guys, a seinen is about character developpement, not sex and gore. And what we've seen in Berserk till now is seinen at its best.
If you can't atleast comprehend that then you don't even now what a seinen is.
Go read some ecchi.
-
I think some people are just too eager to attack. Although I did mention sex a lot, there's no one in berserk that I'd want to see having sex. I was just trying to get across the point that the story had been slowly changing it's flow and that I couldn't wait for it to go back to the dark days. Afrosamurai understood and said it very well. No need to get the hyena pack together to jump somebody if you don't understand what they mean.
Edit: No need to jump on that last sentence, I was just venting a bit.
