Viz is literally asking for pennies to sustain the industry that we love, and most people think asking for pennies is anti-just.

I'd have more sympathy for OP scanlation readers if they'd actually start posting in the correct thread:

Translation: I feel I'm entitled to Free One Piece even tho I'm intended to pay for it.
What's the translation for people who do not live in the USA and enjoyed One Piece and are unable to due to your countries weird obsession on xenophobicly isolating their products from the rest of the world?

yeah, it feels like Rin didn't read all the comments in detail.
some valid points WERE raised amidst the bitching. -

I do actually know how international business does work.
But the model they use is based on the hey days of the 80's when it made sense to seperate the internation boarders with things like PAL and NTSC and were encouraged with localisation legislation that ensured products would be distributed by a local distribution agency that would purchase the rights to reprint it or reformat it to the countries chosen format.
This is why with the boom of DVD's and Games they were region locked. However now with the internet - waiting is no longer a requirement - therefor the model they are using is no longer applicable they would make more money being open to international purchasing instead of complaining of people trying to enjoy simultanious releases.
I would happily pay the USA exchange rate from Australian dollers to take part in Jump Alpha but they deny me it - so where does that leave me?

But international countries have bought the rights for soso many years, and they cant cancel the contract just like they want to. (I dont remember the right word) There are probably few years the quitting years, that it takes to cancel a contract. There is probably 1 to 3 companies for each country. Maeby the same company owns the rights to more than one country, Viz or shueisha would have to bargain for every country and for each comic. Glenat owns the right to one piece in france but kana owns the right to naruto for example. Some distributing companies probably have some deal with viz as many countries sell viz volumes.

I agree that the model is not easy to change - but it's not like the companies can just close their eyes and wish the internet away.
They have to start moving in the right direction and dealing with the copyright issues now - by stopping future productions adhiring to the older rules and changing them on a case by case basis.
Ongoing series first - abandoned or finished series as they can or waiting for them to finish their contracted periods.I'm not trying to be entitled - I was buying Ranma half video cassettes when they were $25 US which when I was buying them were AUS$50+ imported and buying an NTSC/PAL video player just to watch them.
I'm prepared to spend the money - I just can't get access to the services and there are many like me - of course there are many who will pirate goods and enjoy free stuff just because they have that type of personality but I hardly doubt they are the majority.Look at iTunes - Indy Games - Minecraft people can get those things for free but they choose to pay because they are happy to do so.

While I fully understand why Viz media is unable to provide alpha outside north america due to licensing issues, you should also keep this in mind that to an outsider it looks as if an AMERICAN firms demands have closed off the only source they had of reading their favourite manga(some till they get their hands on a volume, others indefinitely) purely to support an ailing AMERICAN industry.

I love how most manga discussions on other boards are slowed down due to Mangastream kiddies being unable to find the chapter. I find this to be amusing, finally you get some good discussion without people who lack reading comprehension asking stupid things over and over again - because, apparently those people can't search the web.

seems strange to me that there would be so many people relying on just one website. MS doesn't offer many titles afterall.
but then again, there may be a lot of people only interested in OP naruto and bleach, people who never needed to go anywhere else.

The translation is: Even tho I have a slightly better excuse for pirating this manga, I'm still pirating this manga, so I shouldn't be surprised or attack them when the company that owns the rights protects their Intellectual property on behalf of the original rights holder Shueisha. But I do, because I've been getting it for so long that I feel entitled to Free One Piece.
It's understandable that a person who lives in a country that doesn't ave a legal version may pirate it, I pirate it because the pirates ar faster than the official company. What I'm saying is, pirating the series is still pirating the goddamn series, so when the people who legally own this series in the US, Viz, a company who also happens to be owned by the company who legally owns this series in it's native country Japan actually Try to protect their rights and take down pirated versions, Nobody should be surprized or bitch about it.
Just take it as a natural part of being a pirate and move on to one of the several other Scanlators who will still be doing One Piece.

I'm all for legal purchasing of Manga as well as the scans, if the scans disappear they disappear, oh well. But come on, you ever feel like you are the only one with common sense? People as a whole can just be dumb as dirt. Why would anyone with half a brain be recommending sites like mangareader on VIZ's own website?

So, has Viz said anything yet about what's going to happen with One Piece in a few weeks, seeing as it's going on break in Japan next week? I figure that it'll just be absent, but Alpha did just launch and it would seem silly for one of the flagship titles to go on break so soon.
-
It'll probably go on break in SJ Alpha as well. Bleach was on break the very first issue, but luckily there was (obviously) the previous chapter to salvage from. They said they were to be two weeks behind Japan, so I don't think they'd make One Piece one week behind in fear of that one issue losing popularity.

…though I'd be fine with that.
-
If they were going to use a Japanese lull as a chance to speed up by one week, it'd probably be during a break the whole magazine stops for, like Golden Week or other such holiday.
-
Maybe if we all don't ask Viz about this, they will be crazy enough to not notice they will become 1 week behind Japan! …It could happen!

So "Fairy Tail" got number 1 on New York Times list recently and "Bleach" got number 1 on Bookscan more recently.
Here's looking at volume 61 ;).
EDIT: Wow. It's Friday the 17th at 3:09 P.M., and I just checked Amazon's Top 100 manga. As of this posting One Piece #61 is the 15th best-selling book on the list and the only one on the top 100 that hasn't even come out yet.

Offtopic: Dude, when Stephen gives a translation it should be revered as true as the Bible
No translation should ever be revered as true as the bible, even ones as good as Stephen.
His is better than anyone in the fan translation, but has had few minor mistakes. :)
Regardless, one less ammo for those supporting the scanlations over Viz.
Only argument they really have is "I WANTZ FREE STUFFZ"The translation is: Even tho I have a slightly better excuse for pirating this manga, I'm still pirating this manga, so I shouldn't be surprised or attack them when the company that owns the rights protects their Intellectual property on behalf of the original rights holder Shueisha. But I do, because I've been getting it for so long that I feel entitled to Free One Piece.
THIS. So much this.
I buy One Piece tankoubons and have them shipped from Japan, resulting in about double the price.
Now others have to do the same, except importing it from America. Boo-hoo.If that's not an option, and the low price of these imports are too high a cost (which is totally unbelievable. You spend more on your lunch today than you do on one of these volumes.), then the blame for your poverty probably lies elsewhere than Viz.
If I was not able to read the weekly raw chapters, it's an inconvinience, but completely understandable one.
Piracy is convinience at the price of your morals. Treat it as such, and do not feel entitled to it.
And good god, 2 weeks isn't much of an inconvinience at all.
Do you have any idea how many weeks or months Japanese have to wait for most Hollywood movies? (and how much they have to pay to watch it?) -
Thought I should I post theses:
-
Naruto's still in first, but wow I didn't know Blue Exorcist was so popular, and it hasn't even been on the market for a year.
-
I imagine Fullmetal Alchemist will be off the next list now that Volume 27 has come out in the states.
-
I wish we could know the actual sale figures, because I have a sad prediction manga in whole isn't doing exactly great in the industry right now.

2.No
3. Wait what? You kidding? -
@firecrouch: Sorry should have been more specific with the 3rd question, does it include like One Piece color pages or something?

it has some color spreads yes.

Package from RightStuf just arrived with my copy of Vol. 61! Life is good.
-
Last I checked on Amazon (best-seller list is updated hourly) volume 61 was the number 2 best-selling manga.
-
I think I got the last issue of physical shonen jump in the mail yesterday, its pretty thick too and has gold foil in the title, and even has a few speed up chapters from alpha in it. Glad they added toriko in its farewell issue too, but all in all its kinda sad to see the final issue come in the mail
-
Really nice cover.
I remember back when I read my first issue of Shonen Jump at my cousin's house when I was a kid.
It's a little disheartening, but all's well that ends well.
End of an era… -
A single tear roles down my cheek. I'll do something special with my Shonen Jump collection, once I get the last issue.
-
What chapters are included? Anything else besides the one piece-toriko crossover inside we need to know about?
-
On Twitter, Shonen Jump had told a fan that was upset about the print issue ending, to look forward to an announcement after the last print issue had been out or in March/April (I can't remeber). Are there any announcements like so in here?
-
are the March and April issue the same as the Alpha ones? or are they different in print?
-
@LUFFY#1:

From what i see it contains chapters 612-614 and ch 652. I see no trace of the toriko one piece cross over inside it, so other than some fan art there isnt much else that looks different from any other issue.
-
I thought the crossover was apart of an issue of Alpha?
-
Yeah I thought it would be in a March issue of JUMP Alpha.
EDIT:
@Crunchyroll:Bleach fans should get stoked for a Tite Kubo interview in February and One Piece followers can anticipate an Eiichiro Oda interview for March. Also, it turns out subscribers have access to bonus content on the website including feature-related videos. Misaki gave me a sneak peek of the Kishimoto clip, but I won't spoil it! Another upcoming subscriber bonus comes in the form of a cross-over,****One Piece x Toriko, in March-April.
There ya have it.
