So that dozen of people on Tenrou island and this handful in the lavatory is all Fail Tail guild? What about shitload of npc in all bar shots? Where are they?
And timeskip changes nothing, I already see it.
And congratulations on being the most boring timeskip chap ever. That was turbo bland, the tuning fork of void. Even Bleach had more amusing and tensing chapter after skip. For what is this 7year jump? So we can have a little ark of coming out from the boondocks back to fame? Grove street muthafucka! Tag the f*ck out of all Magnolia and take the business back.

Top panel is speaking my mind.

Mashima went the no background route for his cover.
Still this was an interesting chapter. Seems like everyone is even more pathetic then they used to be.
Romeo,Bisca, and Alzack seem to be the new mod squad. They'll probably be the ones to go out in search of the island. -
So everyone pretty much let themselves go, save for those two lovebirds who finally got over themselves, it seems. Okay then.
I did like the sketchbook page if only for the slight change in artstyle and that Gajeel is elbowing Max in the face.
-
lol @ people that just keep bashing some manga. if you hate it that much, then don't read the manga at all. you're just giving yourself a hard time. i don't love it but i also don't hate it that much. chapter's not THAT bad but i hope mashima gave more time to reveal that tenrou island still exists. it's like he's also excited to reveal where the others are (as "excited" as some fans to know where they are). also, i hope that it's not another another dimension/world thing, but that's the only thing i can think of. or maybe warped somewhere into the future or past or something like that.
-
I'm not bashing or hating FT. I'm just reading it to takes notes of "how to not write" a story.
So that dozen of people on Tenrou island and this handful in the larvatory is all Fail Tail guild? What about shitload of npc in all bar shots? Where are they?
I was asking myself the same thing.
-
Called it with Macao and Wakaba (sort of) Jointly running the guild. Also, haha at Droy for getting depressed about Levi and getting fat. The scene with Macao getting beat up and stopping anyone from interfering reminds me (sort of) the scene with Bellamy and his crew at Mocktown, except that the reasons were completely different. Also, I guess Bob is still alive and is still Guild Master, since it doesn't say in Ichiya's box that he's now Guild Master. None of the Blue Pegasus seemed to have changed appearance in the 7 years, which is weird… you'd at least expect Eve to have changed somewhat, since he was... what, 16 before the timeskip?
-
-
I liked this chapter. Decent enough. I also liked the sketchbook pages for the slightly different drawing style.
-
I just hope that the group wasn't teleported into the future and look completely the same. I prefer if they where somehow locked on the island for 7 years… but I'm prepared for the worse :P

Prepare to be disappointed.
This… Is... Fairy Tail...!!!

To be honest, I kind of like Macao's look as the new master. Wakaba also looks surprisingly awesome, and I have no idea who he even is.
Awkward chapter but for once FT actualy seems different. Oh and I think that the island just got a temporal shift or something.
Overall, first chapter in a loooong while that I found…..interesting.
This is a weird feeling.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
So that dozen of people on Tenrou island and this handful in the lavatory is all Fail Tail guild? What about shitload of npc in all bar shots? Where are they?
Maybe they left ? I mean FT was obviously not getting any work because of all the well known people being gone and only the Z listers remaining.
Still, the "random bully guild" was rather pathetic in how generic it was.
Oh and if this plot twist means we're just stuck with Ichiya and yet we won't have Bob show up I will be dissapointed as all hell. Bob is the one awesome thing about Blue Pegasus, with the three bishies in Ichiya's group still looking the exact same as they did seven years ago.

Wait they weren't married before ?

I see we're going the "teleported into the future" way. Of course they couldn't find the island, because it didn't exist until precisely 7 years later. Fairy Tail will be tasked with getting itself in order, and then getting back in time, thus rendering this all an incredibly pointless arc.

I was gonna say that I don't think that's the case, but yeah, Hiro undoing everything and not actualy keeping the minor characters aged and the series set in the future and whatnot seems REALLY plausible, given how Hiro loves him his retcons.
Now you made me afraid to even bother with this arc. :(
-
I wonder if this is going to turn out like ocarina of time where they were just kept in suspended for 7 years until it would be safe enough to let them go. If the island just now popped up then it must be a temporal shift kind of plot.
-
I have found the time skip quite interesting - really hope they have aged!
-
Tenrou Island is full of dangerous like creatures right? Maybe they have aged and have actually been training on the island?
Probably not, but it was the island for 'testing'.
Anyway, decent chapter, looking forward to the next one to see the gang back.
-
I was digging this chapter up until Blue Pegusus showed up.
C'mon Mashima, if you aren't gonna do anything with it than why did you bother setting it up? -
Well…..I just don't want to see all the main characters unchanged and unaged. I mean, what would be the point?
Honestly, the best case scenario is that Romeo takes over as main character for quite some time before finding the original FT members, all of whom should be 7 years older.
I found this chapter interesting until the final page when Ichiya implied Tenrou Island might just be suspended in time which would seemingly indicate none of the characters have aged or grown at all and will just be brought into a world seven years into the future. It would just feel too similar to the Future arc in Reborn! which was ultimately very disappointing....and then led into the Shimon arc which I couldn't even finish reading.
-
Hahahaha at the people who still think this is a timeskip.

Mashima is the master of Skypiea arcs. He's sent them to an alternate dimension, and now he's sending them to an alternate time. Just once, I'd like one arc to actually have an influence on another, but I don't think that's ever gonna happen. Think about this: After finishing the Tower of Heaven arc, I could have jumped straight to the Tenrou Island arc. All I would need to know is that Wendy and Gazelle joined, and that Lisanna is alive again.

Well it would be interesting to see the cast chaff against a world that's changed during the ten years they might have been in suspended animation. But I wouldn't trust Mashima with something that heavy, he hasn't even reintroduced the major institutions (the major Guild halls, the Magic Council, the magic police whose name I can't remember) and he's already bringing the main cast back.

Hiro has barely even showed the cast react to anything in the world on a constant basis, so I doubt that would really stick out anyway.
-
not as interesting as i would've hoped but whatever. I knew macao would be the next master. It kinda had to be him or someone completely new
-

I always kinda attributed that to Natsu and company being a bunch of jerks who really only cared about what they were doing. Makarov on the other hand was always having to apologize to people for the collateral damage they caused (although he kinda brought that on himself).Plus the new council wasn't long enough to butt heads with the guild.

Oh wait, so the transparent bad guys have been in power for 7 years now ?
Oh Hiro, right, he'll not do anything interesting with it no doubt.
-
The anime is a lot better than the manga. For me it makes a lot more sense of things that are going on.
From the recent episode, it does make it seem that Tenrou Island is where Zeref was hiding from Acnologia, and it does sort of make it seem that Zeref is Romeo, just the way he says Natsu.
Also if Zeref is 400 years old and hasn't aged, why would Natsu and co. There could be a chance that they have been living for 7 years, training, but that they just haven't physically aged because of the magic of Tenrou Island.
-
 Pretty much.
Hiro is the king of under utilizing rad ideas. -
7 year training should not be an option. they would not leave their master but they will leave the whole guild just to train? why not train with them?
-
Can someone refresh my memory on some stuff?
Didn't they say at some point that Tenrou Island is usually inaccessible because of some kind of magic? Might be an isolated floating timeline thing. Also, why didn't any of Lucy's spirits inform the guild of what happened? We know Loki shows up whenever he feels like it, and he was in the spirit world when the island got blasted.
There've been fake time skips before in this series, so this could go all kinds of directions.
-
I actually didn't hate the character but the end made me think I'm going to hate the upcoming ones.
-
This is just so dull and uninspiring.
Let's abstractly imagine that Fairy Tail manga has a main theme. What would that theme be? With the answer being shoehorned into the readers every other chapter, it can only be one thing - friendship. Right? So, you'd think that every damn character in it knows both the abstract and practical value of this virtue. You'd expect them to utilise it at every step. You'd assume that every individual with ideals as strong and stalwart can do everything in his power - even start the life anew. Logical so far, right?
However, what do we see? A small, perky guild which has seen better times but still tries to struggle in the difficult economic situation of magocratic society? Quite a different picture. The remains of the guild have used these seven years with most efficiency to fester in their own sorrow. Just like their supposedly dead friends would like to see them, right? What else can they do rather than become a fat, hopeless, spineless mess of pity, right?
What the fuck did Mashima want to say with this? It's okay to let yourself go? It's okay to not struggle and go with the flow? It's okay to drop dead?
Or perhaps, the big idea here is that friendship is exclusive. Unless your name is on the list of Fairy Tail shareholders, you hereby are prohibited from using friendship and all of its derivatives for your own personal goals and benefits. Sign here.
Fuck this shit, I have an episode of Gintama to watch.
Mashima is the master of Skypiea arcs.
No, I don't think Mashima can make seemingly side quest arcs that in fact are vital for the main plot and explore concepts that his series as a whole are based on. And are ridiculously fun and good at the same time. At all.
-
socioeconomical monopolies>>>>>>>>>friendship
Its best you learn this lesson now so you don't end up super skinny or supper fat. Pull together and keep going but don't expect to be truly happy because your life is indeed crappy. -
LOLOLOLOL I can't believe I called that. I cannot believe that's romeo. LOLOL oh my god. :'D
what a lame story.
-
that's called depression. it's not easy to move one when half of your guild "died" maybe. besides, it's the guild's stronger half so it's not actually a surprise that they became poor and weak.
-
Not bad not bad, I like the aged Fairy Tail members and the fact that they've fallen from grace since then and are barely holding on. Didn't actually think Macro would take over but it does make sense as he second oldest of the guild. I won't doubt Mishima till I see what he has planned with the island. Say what you will but the man is good at creating interesting magics (just bad at the execution). I'm really hoping it wasn't "stuck in a area outside of time" or that they were "frozen in time" or something like that.
-
-
The biggest problem I have with FT was illustrated pretty well in this chapter. Fairy Tail is very, very similar to One Piece right? It does a lot of things very similar to One Piece. That's a good thing right?
Yeah No. The main problem is that the way Mashima handles his "Tear Jerker" scenes compared to the way Oda does them. The way Mashima does it is just so hammy and contrived to the way Oda usually does them. Macao crying "ROMEO HASN'T SMILED EVEN ONCE!!!" It's stuff that actually could be moving if handled well but Mashima just doesn't seem to grasp the intricacies of proper execution with tear jerker scenes.
Basically he's sappy and he's corny and it's one of the main reasons his series is highly underwhelming.
Something good to say about the chapter…. Don't really have anything. Sorry.
-
Who is Raki-san guys? Was she some1 known b4 this ridiculous time skip ? :P
-
So, the points to this chapter are:
-The current Fairy Tail sucks.
-They all miss the main characters, and…
-...the main character might not be dead!
Already? It's only been one chapter and we're already foreshadowing an adventure to get them back. Mashima, you're too impatient with your stories! You could've given us so much more, and instead you have a bunch of characters basically moping around stating "Where's Poochy?" for a chapter.
Also, I realize one big problem Fairy Tail has. This chapter a bunch of obvious bad guys are badmouthing Fairy Tail, obviously intending to make the viewer mad, yet I've forgotten what makes Fairy Tail a great guild in the first place. The only reasons I can think of are Makarov, a bunch of dudes drinking beer, and maybe Erza depending on how close her "family" is to her.
-
No, I don't think Mashima can make seemingly side quest arcs that in fact are vital for the main plot and explore concepts that his series as a whole are based on. And are ridiculously fun and good at the same time. At all.
I should've put "skypeia arc" in quotes. Because yeah, even when Oda does one-off arcs that don't seem to have anything to do with the main story, they actually turn out to be secretly important and are hella good.
Whereas with Mashima, I'm still waiting for the side-quests to stop, so an actual story can develop.
-
All I could think about was were these people in the guild before? I don't remember any of them. Maybe it woulda felt more impactful if they did stuff before hand lol. At least memorable things.
-
Y'know, the reason why the One Piece timeskip worked was because there was proper suspense.
This? Mashima gives us one chapter chocked with utterly uninteresting, dullard characters before he's ready to show the cast again. Absolutely fucking awful.
-
What the hell was this!?
The last chapter clearly stated the island was destroyed and there were no survivors, now this chapter contradicts that by saying there are!?
Fuck it. -
I have to give Mashima some grudging respect on some points.
First of all, the man clearly works hard. The art hasn't suffered even though he frequently does more pages than required. The art's pretty decent, too. The characters do, in fact, look older. Those sketches were a nice touch.
Second, the man is thankfully quite into his own series, he's passionate about his work, and he loves his characters (his main protagonists, at the very least).
The problem is that Mashima is just not a natural at proper storytelling. In fact I'd even say he's naturally bad at it.
Hey guys, let's all spontaneously weep and awkwardly exposit solely for the sake of the reader about a tragedy that happened 7 years ago, after a villain guild whose members have zero redeeming qualities kicks our shit. Just one chapter of that, and then at the end we get a bit of hope. Great build up there Mashima, one whole chapter.
Romeo hasn't smiled once in 7 years? You have got to be shitting me.
This has got to be the most bizarrely dysfunctional storytelling I've seen since BLEACH.
Mashima thinks we care about all the guild members just as much as he does, he thinks this would leave a huge impact on the reader. He is, unfortunately, quite mistaken.
-
IRomeo hasn't smiled once in 7 years? You have got to be shitting me.
I think things would've been better if Romeo had beat those bad guys, going against the will of his father, saying he's a coward that the old guild would never let it happen, showing he's a rebel boy, to actually give a reason to the "never smiled for 7 years".
Still it's just ridiculous.
Then when Natsu & co show up again he'll smile. Pff.. -
What is annoying to me…is that all the weaklings left after the incident 7 years ago didn't train or get stronger to make themselves worthy to carry on the name Fairy Tail. If they care so much for their master and lost comrades shouldn't they have strengthened their resolve to carry on the will of FT? I mean they would never be as physically powerful as Makarov, Gildartz, Natsu, Erza, Gajeel, etc....(though if they have the power of friendship they can still defeat the likes of Hades no sweat)...but it would have more impact if they were at least trying.
See the remnants of FT would feel more like victims if they were at least fighting back....not just sitting around moping and crying SEVEN YEARS after the others disappeared. How long do these people mourn? =/
Romeo should be badass and strong and should've come in and kicked some ass. Maybe not take everyone from the Ogre guild out, but put up a good fight. It would've been more fitting....FT is now a small victimized guild, but Romeo, influenced by Natsu, has trained and is the only powerful mage in the guild (not talking Erza strong...but at least capable).
From there LEAVE SOME SUSPENSE and don't freakin' mention that the others are all still alive and well ONE CHAPTER after they disappeared -_-
My gosh, does Mashima not understand the concept of suspense?
This wasn't terrible.....it's just terribly wasted potential to finally shake things up. If everything returns to the status quo at the end of this arc....I'll be extremely disappointed, but not that surprised.
From there, I think a search for the missing members would be a good story arc. Romeo serving as a central protagonist for an extended period of time (on the order of 50 -100 chapters) perhaps gathering a search party /making his own friends / etc. and searching for the missing Fairy Tail members would allow the already existing characters to age physically and mentally as it has been 7 years since they dsiappeared. They could be reintroduced one at a time rather than all at once. Further, we could be introduced to a new group of protagonists as Romeo searches for the missing members.
Romeo would seem particularly suited to carrying the name / symbol of FT if say he was the only one who refused to believe the others died. This would be what spurs his quest to search for the others. Rather than have Blue Pegasus randomly show up and go "hey guys, guess what?! Your friends are all still alive! yay!" sending Romeo on a quest as he finally reaches an age old enough to set out on his own adventure against his father's wishes would be much more meaningful. Let's say Macau and the others were strong in resolve but after SEVEN FREAKIN' YEARS accepted that the others were gone. A mix of resolve to carry on the name of their guild an desperation due to their own weakness / unfortunate situation. Romeo is the only one who refuses to believe the others are still alive and wants to set out on a quest to find them...his father doesn't want him to go. Let's say Romeo is the only one powerful left in FT who is able to accept serious jobs. The guild would rely on him and Macau wouldn't want him to go out on his own on a foolish quest to search for comrades thought to have died long ago. Then perhaps Romeo could begin finding evidence that FT is still alive through his own search. This would perhaps mysteriously bring him to a certain job that would tie back to the missing FT members. They would NOT all be in one place just chilling for 7 years. Romeo would seek them out and find them one at a time. It would finally give readers a chance to really explore the entire world of Fairy Tail and this could all build into the real mystery of the Dragons, Lucy's mother, and Zeref.....basically build this all towards a conclusion. It would be a solid 200+ chapters of material with proper build up and development.
At least that's how I would write Fairy Tail at this point...I'd also do what Mashiro and Takagi are currently attempting in Bakuman SPOILERS I'd go back to all the previous arcs and try to find ways to make them relevant to the overall plot END SPOILERS

I just noticed alzack and bisca have the same last name now
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/80226190/4
So they must have gotten married
Looks like not everyone is down in the dumps about their friends being dead.
