thanks a lot
The black pages could have been easily reduced to five and it would have still the same impact…after that we rly got great doublepages and FINALLY the end of this arc.
Was it rly 7 years..WOW.
The last doublepage showed a lot of potential for good new character designs, but i somehow have the feeling that many will just be wasted.
yah that 7 black pages full of text was a waste…god damn
I think the wasted black pages will seem better in the volumes, but I'd have still probably cut it to 3 pages starting with the King's viewpoint with regular vision, then dimming, then black for 1 page. It gets lazy even at just 1 page in a weekly format (see "The Heart").
The end of the chapter was good. Unsure how much the payoff for those 9 freaking pages is worth it, but it was an interesting and daring move.
I'd say switch the Dragon and Horse. The guy on the left has what looks awfuly similar to dragon wings as the collar of his shirt sweeping out the sides of his head, and Horses in old times are often related to fire/flames…. but then again their lower halves i.e the flowers and dragon shaped insignia on the jacket back make you confused or think differently.
I don't know about the dog either, but as someone else mentioned it could be Gin, it could be the rat, or Kaito could be the rat... obviously all this is much too early to tell hahaha.
Honestly I thought this chapter was excellent. Sure it's lazy. But it works SO WELL. When that spread appears from the darkness…wow. And like Robby said, I imagine that this chapter is even better if you don't read it standalone.

The problem is that there were too many pages of that, if we were getting a chapter every week sure I wouln't mind it, but now…..I think it really hurt this chapter, as Robby said it this will better when reading in a volume.
I loved this chapter, will be great when I reread the series one day
How come Kubo did Hunter x Hunter this week?
but seriously this chapter seemed soo damn short due to the fact that only like 3 pages were not pitch black
I didn't mind the black pages. From a story telling standpoint it excellent. Yes it takes up most of the chapter time but it works because you can feel the life slowly draining from Meryem and trying to hold on and finish the game. When they finally do show his body, it just…so effective. He may have not been much of a big bad but it still sad to see him go like this. One of the more memorable death I've seen in a manga to date. Bravo
Closing out the story with the number of casualties from this whole fiasco and the video will from Netero just clinched the somber tone of this chapter. Seems like a hollow victory, doesn't it?
At least we get the promise of a new arc...I hope.
I still enjoyed the chapter despite the black pages. I just think this is one of those chapters that would seem better in a volume than a chapter. I also agree that the death of the king was done well after all of those black pages.
wow….. that's the fastest chapter I've ever read, puts even bleach to shame, but the last pic was awesome, and it almost is always chalk full of text, this is a rare occasion
and hell those designs are sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and hell those designs are sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They remind me of something from One Piece or Fairy Tail
They also kind of remind me of the animal themed mafia nen guys
this is a damn well done arc ender and cliffhanger transition chapter. there's potential too
how come after pakunoda died in the anime, the animation becomes all derp??
My body wasn't ready for that two page spread, but Togashi could've did those black pages better… maybe slowly dimming it to black?
Great chapter,
but i still have a generall question - i never understood how this whole nen contract thing is going :s ???
I know there are the Basic Techniques and everything else is depending on them :
Ten, Zetsu, Ren and Hatsu.
Then there are different types of Hatsu:
Enhancement/Reinforcement,Emission,Manipulation, Conjuration/Materialization,Transmutation - Specialization
I also know that a lot of Nen abilities use more than one Hatsu type (like a combination).
But I never understood how you can set conditions on it ??? Do you just have to think it to yourself and than it's starting to work???

Pretty much. Something about the mental process that makes things stronger if there's a balance and cost.

Vol 1-7 just arrived, they look soooo much better than they do online, obviously. Translations look fine so far too.
The Chimera Ants are over O_O!!!!!
I'm crying tears of joy, at last this waste of an arc is finished.
How exactly is this a waste of an arc?
@Oga:

I gotta check if HxH volumes are available at amazon and how much it would cost me to mail them from the Uk to Portugal D:
@The:

I gues you can say that the wastefull thing about it is that half the main cast wasn't in the series for over five years.
It's not bad, but I can get what people mean by that.

I understand why, but it is by no means a waste of an arc.

Amazon is where I got mine, they don't have vol 8, 9 & 14 though, OOP I assume. Don't know how much it would cost to mail them though, hopefully not too much.

i thought it was because she was blind

so? those characters managed to grow a lot more than leorio. and besides togashi will most likely bring in him and other neglected characters with major power ups in this upcoming arc.
the chimera ant arc was for me a lot like bleach and it's fake karakura town arc, too many characters I did not care about getting a lot of screen time.
The ants were over powered, came out of nowhere and served no purpose to further the overall plot of the manga.
the phantom troupe was abandoned, hisoka, leorio, kurapika all disappeared into thin air.
and then it was an absolute kick in the balls only to find out after all these years the king was gonna die anyway no matter what happened, wtf.
for me this arc wasn't needed, was boring and has no actual plot other than to kill Netero.
Honestly, it was a pretty good arc. I get the feeling that most of the complaints over it are more due to the time it took (exacerbated by the lengthy hiatuses). And as for whether it didn't progress the plot, I have to disagree. Netero dieing is a major event, and the stuff that happened to Gon could become pretty important. It was also, more than anything else, extremely important for the character development of both Gon and Killua. Yeah there were a lot of new characters, and the established characters not doing much is somewhat disappointing, but I like that we got to explore more of the world, and its not like the new characters were bland undeveloped ones like in Bleach. And honestly, beyond the fact that a lot of plot progression did occur, I also think saying nothing is happened that is important right after it finished is a bit hasty since you haven't had time to see the full effects of the arc
and then it was an absolute kick in the balls only to find out after all these years the king was gonna die anyway no matter what happened, wtf.
wait wait wait, wasn't netero who poisoned him wit that rose bomb? what's this that he was going to die no matter what happened.

Tell me, you really hated the skypiea arc, didn't you?
This is the overall plot of the manga, the manga is all about hunters doing huntery stuff. and that's what the whole arc was about.

I don't know what you say, but imo the Chimera Ant rocked. A really well developed arc, with fantastic characters (i prefer Morau to Leorio easily), darker and more violent than any other common shounen i've seen. And the endless fights from the Castle Invasion till the King vs Netero was very favorable to me. Some people believe that a shonen manga should stick with what usually shonen manga do, but i honestly believe Togashi took a step forward. Of course the horrible thing is that it took 7 years to be finished.
And comparing Bleach to HxH? Why.jpg
The castle fights were ok. What was more annoying were the endless fights against minor goons before that (Gon vs. selection squads, Killua vs. Hagya squad, Morau vs. Jeeto, Ryodan vs. Sazan) which had only minor influence on the overall plot and made the hiatuses even less tolerable.
The Chimera Ant arc shouldn't even be compared with anything Bleach shits out.
The Chimera Ant was awesome, the hiatuses just sucked.
The ants were over powered, came out of nowhere and served no purpose to further the overall plot of the manga.
you have seen Gon, right?
This arc was awesome….even though it did take a long time for it to finish. Look at the plus side, when Gon recovers he'll become the most powerful fighter in the face of the planet....well stronger then he was before at least which is something still
new animu is pretty good
Well, I watched the Livestream of HxH and I think that the chapter…
! ….adapted almost exactly what's in the manga (some details changed, explain below one and the rest you will see later), almost no filler, because it encourages the first two chapters of the manga in the anime
! The only thing that left me puzzled: wasn't part of Kaito, nor the Konta, although I think that this will place him in a later chapter.
! And I liked the opening theme (much better is the song old Hunter xHunter anime, but is nice) but the ending I didn't like: /
IMO, the remake is good, although I prefer the old anime (perhaps something usual) but it is still too early to judge

Ending
Not particularly impressed with either of them I'm sorry to say. But either way I'm thinking I might watch a few episodes of the new anime I'd say it looks pretty good.
Although for some reason I didn't really think Leorio would have black hair. I always thought Togashi wanted it to be brown honestly, I know it was brown on the volume 19 cover and a few other color spreads anyway. But regardless, can't wait until we get to the Ants arc. :)
Tell me, you really hated the skypiea arc, didn't you?
Oda does what only Oda can do, make an amazing arc that's irrelevant to the plot unless Poseidon appears later and it could have ties to the void century kingdom so who knows how important skypiea really was Plus Oda made interesting characters that i cared about like Enel, Norland, Wiper, Gan Fall and Conis. Drum Island is the only arc I dislike mainly because I absolutely cannot stand Wapol, he's the only character in one piece I despise.
I guess my biggest problem with the arc was the pacing - 133 chapters which probably could have been condensed into around 100. looking at the most recent chapters we had ch311 having 4 pages showing us what i'm assuming is people around the world that served no purpose, 312 & 313, did Welfin speaking with King really require a whole 2 chapters, I have no idea what happened in chapter 315 from lack of memory on who the lobster and reina are, was that the little girl the queen ate way back at the start of the arc? even so why does she a character who appeared in a couple panels get a whole chapter dedicated to her going home. 317 and 318 really, really annoyed me, a whole chapter of playing GO, no thanks i'd read hikaru no go for that, then those 9 black pages, seriously Nine of them, come on.
I'm not trying to hate on HxH i love everything up till greed island finished. I hate Naruto every time Sasuke is the central focus but i still enjoy the series as a whole, hopefully the new HxH arc will bring it back to its best for me anyway. Netero vs. Meruem is the one part I like about the arc just like Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra is the one part of fake karakura town I liked. Maybe I'll appreciate and have a better understanding of the arc once its all in volume format and i can read it as a whole without constantly being interrupted after 10 weeks. Then again i dislike most of the arcs characters so who knows.
One thing that really stood out this arc was the descriptive boxes explaining absolutely everything like they were just there to fill space, were they around at the beginning of the manga cause i don't remember them.
and yes its my mistake Netero did poison Meruem, I'm just glad he's dead and wur moving on, could have ended a lot sooner if he had just died in the damn explosion.
But like I said before hopefully once i have them all in the volumes and can read it from start to finish without monthly interruptions maybe I'll like it more
bring back Hisoka, Kurapika and the phantom troupe as the primary villains please.
the ED was actually pretty good

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/743/hisokaed2.png
Correct. The song sucks but those shots of Hisoka are instant win.
they have new VAs right? is it the same company who did the first anime?
I really liked the episode, the animation was really good and i quite liked the music. I might actually prefer the more upbeat soundtrack this remake seems to have over the more melancholy soundstrack of the original anime. My main gripe with it though is that Kurapica's voice sounded a bit too femine, hopefully over time the voice will improve. Also the pacing seems really fast compared to the original, but i can live with that if we get to the chimera ant arc faster.
Really liked the animation. The OP had the same feel as Ohayou from the first anime, but a little more exciting. I really liked the ED. I liked the Op for Kaiji that band did, too. It was cool, albeit a little un-fitting for this arc of the anime. And the shots of Hisoka in it were awesome. They even put that "shining crotch" shot RIGHT IN THE ED. Can't wait till he shows up.
This is gonna be a great series to watch. I've watched the original anime like 2-3 times and the manga even more because I like this series so much. It's gonna be great to relive it redone in high quality like this.
The ants were over powered, came out of nowhere
So did Hisoka. And the Spiders. And Greed Island.
and served no purpose to further the overall plot of the manga.
Except for all the ants that are still alive and spreading, including the incredibly charismatic and powerful ones.
and then it was an absolute kick in the balls only to find out after all these years the king was gonna die anyway no matter what happened, wtf.
From poison the chairman hit him with a dozen chapters ago.
for me this arc wasn't needed, was boring and has no actual plot other than to kill Netero.
-Killia has promised to leave Gon
-powerups abound, including Gon's current physical state
-Kaito
-chairman's death and impending rpelacement
-corruption of the government
-introduction of the rose bomb
-allies Gon has made
-Favors from Killua's family
-Spiders taking action against the ants
-the ants that survived
Oda does what only Oda can do, make an amazing arc that's irrelevant to the plot
Skypeia is the most important arc in One Piece in terms of the overall plot of the entire series to date.
Just because Luffy wasn't fighting Marines doesn't make it irrelevant.
I guess my biggest problem with the arc was the pacing - 133 chapters which probably could have been condensed into around 100. looking at the most recent chapters we had ch311 having 4 pages showing us what i'm assuming is people around the world that served no purpose,
Its called "scope" and "showing the world is bigger than just the main character."
312 & 313, did Welfin speaking with King really require a whole 2 chapters,
Yes.
I have no idea what happened in chapter 315 from lack of memory on who the lobster and reina are, was that the little girl the queen ate way back at the start of the arc?
A lack of memory is your own fault, not the story's.
even so why does she a character who appeared in a couple panels get a whole chapter dedicated to her going home.
Because it was crucial to the cycle growth and development of the entire arc, showing the ants had grown, changed, and that not everything was as horrible and hopeless as it first seemed 100 chapters ago, and that even some of the innocent victims were saved due to the actions of the heroes.
317 and 318 really, really annoyed me, a whole chapter of playing GO, no thanks i'd read hikaru no go for that, then those 9 black pages, seriously Nine of them, come on.
They weren't playing Go.
I'm not trying to hate on HxH
You're doing a pretty lousy job then. You're hating it quite expertly.
i love everything up till greed island finished.
Most people consider Greed Island the weakest arc of the series. The ant saga was full of characterization and great interesting combat. It was only marred by the hiatuses.
I hate Naruto
We all do.
every time Sasuke is the central focus but i still enjoy the series as a whole,
Oh. Only when its Sasuke? And not when its badly drawn, full of plot holes, retconning, lazy combat, dues ex machinas, abandoning its themes, and ignoring the entire secondary cast, including Hinata's love confession for over 110 chapters?
hopefully the new HxH arc will bring it back to its best for me anyway.
Oh, you're just in it for the fights. And you think Ulquiorra was a good one. Got it.
Then again i dislike most of the arcs characters so who knows.
Your loss, most of the characters this arc were pretty awesome.
One thing that really stood out this arc was the descriptive boxes explaining absolutely everything like they were just there to fill space, were they around at the beginning of the manga cause i don't remember them.
Yes.
and yes its my mistake Netero did poison Meruem, I'm just glad he's dead and wur moving on, could have ended a lot sooner if he had just died in the damn explosion.
You really have missed the entire point of the arc, haven't you. It wasn't about killing the ants. It was about them becoming more man than beast.
bring back Hisoka, Kurapika and the phantom troupe as the primary villains please.
Why? They're Kurapika's enemies, not Gon's. This is Gon's adventure, why should he keep getting dragged back into that mess, when even Kurapika is no longer sure if wiping them out is the right thing to do?
