The poster looks incredible. I love this tribute to old movies. This is certainly positive.
It takes a lot of guts to make old schools posters. I am hoping that average movie goers will appreciate that.

No sign of Cap punching Hitler. Booooooo.
They wouldn't put that in the trailer! That's something that needs to be saved for the movie itself.
Looking good so far. C'mon, Chris, don't let our HS down.
You know, normally I'd be off-put by all this Americanism. But fuck that, this is Captain America movie!!! I want as much patriotic, red white and blue passion as the movie can muster. I want the full works, cheerleaders in skimpy American flag themed clothing, a huge poster of Uncle Sam with his pointing finger and a bunch of American speeches on freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness no matter how contrived and cheesy they may be. I'm serious, lay them on me movie. This is something that this age of political correctness has been missing. And goddammit, I wanna see Cap punching Hitler in the nose, you better not chicken out movie!!!
They already said they won't put any heavy-handed patriotic shit in the movie to not put off foreign audiences.
Haha. The grenade part…Everyone runs, he just drops to the ground.
I like Peggy Carter in this.
Noooo sign of Bucky in the trailers?
Actually I think he was trying to cover the grenade with his body to shield everyone else.

True dat. The one and only superhero were it's allowed.

It'd be kinda stupid to not expect hard-core patriotism in a CAPTAIN AMERICA movie.

Wow. Even cooler.

Overseas its apparently being called "The First Avenger"?

Fucking bullshit man. I ain't no American. But I still want oodles of hard-core American patriotism because that's what freakin' Captain America is about.

We live in a sad time.

But….it's still Captain America!
Oh well.
Considering the amount of people who were pissed off at Spidey in front of the American flag in the Raimi movies (honestly I never even noticed till it was pointed out), I wouldn't be surprised Marvel played it safe with this one. A movie with this kind of budget needs a high overseas gross.
And since when was Cap about patriotism lol. Sure, it's in his name, but Steve Rogers has moved past that title eons ago. As leader of the Avengers he's much more a symbol of what a superhero strifes to be than what an American should be.

I saw the trailer last week when I went to Pirates 4 and it was just called Captain America. Not even The First Avenger tagged on or anything.
EDIT: after checking the release schedule of my local cinema it'll be called The First Avenger: Captain America.
They already said they won't put any heavy-handed patriotic shit in the movie to not put off foreign audiences.
Captain America isn't supposed to be about hardcore idiot MURRRIKAAA patriotism anyways. I'd like to think not-Americans could still dig him even if he was spouting off word for word the the Bill of Rights. I know I can.
In his best appearances, he's just an ardent defender of rights, what the the constitution means, etc, and he comes off more as a LIBERAL COMMIE in action than anything actually annoying. So I wouldn't ever really call it hardcore patriotic shit, since that implies that he's like some cliche IMMA FIGHT FOR DA FLAG FUCK ALL OTHER COUNTRIES USA DA BEST
But I'm not familiar with all of the various depictions writers have done with him and I'm not even very well versed on his appearances on a widescale so I can't vouch for him always being good. Nyoro~n. But I like a lot of his "mandatory" comics
Captain America is my favorite superhero anyways. So I hope this is a good movie.
Captain America has never been a blind flagwaving AMERICA FUCK YEAH LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT patriot like some people like to think he is.
Several times in the past, he's flat-out abandoned the title because he opposed the US government's actions and couldn't stand being seen as representing them. In one such instance, he got into it with President Nixon.
I don't have the scans on-hand, but there was one incident where he was yelling at a crowd of people that "America" means nothing, and that the country itself is worth jack shit if it refuses to live up to the ideals that it's supposed to be founded on.
That's what Steve Rogers is, a skinny nothing who was so pathetic of a physical specimen that he was deemed unfit for any position in the US Arrmy, not even so much as a cook, yet he refused to give up because he saw Evil out there in Nazi Germany that needed smiting.
And then he became a supersoldier who embodies all the good shit that America likes to think that it stands for.
The only version of the character that isn't like this is Ultimate Captain America, who's the source of that infamous "You think this A on my head stands for France!?" line. That version pretty much is the diehard AMERICA FUCK YEAR patriot-type.
And was also created by Mark Millar, who is Scottish. So yeah. Quit blaming Americans for that one.
The character has plenty of foreign appeal, I know people in Chile, France, Japan(duh), Canada and several other countries who are stoked as FUCK to see this movie. Even saw a guy from Venezuela saying that everyone he knows is excited for it, which surprised me considering Chavez and all.
And then you have references like this one from a French game that I occasionally poke around in…
Captain America is actually one of the superhero franchises I'm not very familiar with, so I'm going into this blind (as it were).
Only a week to go and we're getting a bevvy of high quality pics now.

They did a nice job with Red Skull there.
Keeping his overall look intact while still having it seem somewhat plausible that a person could actually look like that.
As usual I only go to movies if the reviews are good, but you guys are getting my hopes up in a good way.
The only version I've read is the Ultimates, 'A stands for France' version, which I found kind of obnoxious, but even then he still had some of that fighting for truth and justice appeal.
I was hoping Bucky would have been younger. I wanted to see a 15 year old kid really break out and own some scenes as Bucky.
Captain America really has some great speeches. I used to have the one he gave to Peter Parker on my computer, but I can't find it.
It was something like: "Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the people say. As superheroes, we're the ones who are to become the tree that stands against the current of injustice. When the world stands incorrectly, and tells us to move, it's up to us to say NO, YOU MOVE."
I stood up and saluted a comic that day.
When Captain America throws his mighty shield, all who choose to oppose his shield must YIELD.
True motherfucking facts.

This?
God Yes. Th-these aren't tears.
That's great. What issue is that from?
Oh my God, I'm so going to fangirl seeing that shield fight scene on the big screen.
@Syan:

It's actually from Amazing Spider-Man #537, during the Civil War arc, and that speech is everything you think it is and more.
It's actually scanned moments like this that made me fall in love with Captain America; before I discovered places like Scans Daily (where it's never just you), my knowledge of some heroes was pathetically lacking. They introduced me to Captain America, to Jaime Reyes, to Stephanie Brown, and a dozen others I've fallen hard for…
This is going to be a sexy movie. A very, very sexy movie.
@Syan:

Unfortunately their are very few 15 year old's who can pull off that role believable and I would much rather see an older actor do well than see a younger one flounder.
Chloe Moretz was 13 and pulled off Hit Girl perfectly. There are many young actors who could've done well. Instead the teen sidekick will be 28 and Cap won't look like a leader. Eh, the layout and everything look good, but the two lead heroes seem completely miscast.
Ah yes, just a week away now, just a week…
I can't freaking wait! I'm practically giving my family the evil eye over this movie. THIS MOVIE IS HAPPENING! I missed Thor! I'm probably going to miss Pooh. I'M NOT MISSING THIS!
HNNNNNNNNG!
…are you unable to go to the movies unless your entire family wants to see whatever?
If so, that really fucking sucks.

That's 1/3rd of the problem.
The other 3rd is finding a movie everyone is interested in. My main focus is to get my mother, father, and sister in to watch it. Father is pumped for this, mother is excited for this, but my sister couldn't give two shits as she's only an X-Men fan (unless we watch Iron Man, since she…...all of us like Robert Downey Jr.)
The FINAL third is getting everyone's ass out of work, off the fucking couch, into the car, and into the theater at a correct time.
And if I watch any movie without them and it comes out, they pretty much don't forgive me for a whole freaking week. Also, it kind of sucks watching things without them. =(
But this movie is so fucking happening, it's not even funny. I will torment them until this happens!
If it's 3 to 1 in terms of excitement, I'd say your sister is overruled.

I'm not saying its impossible but its extremely hit and miss, with a much bigger chance to miss and miss hard than hit. Also how does Cap not look like a leader with an older Bucky? Sure he won't exactly be the "older role model" that is usually portrayed between the two but their are other ways to portray that. Anyway, I'm getting the vibe that this is the movie were he begins forming into the famous leader and inspiration he becomes and that's going to be the arc, him starting as a brave but young kid and forming into a mature leader.

Why don't you use Downey Jr. as bait…lure the sister...get the happy. :ninja:

Bucky being old isn't the reason Cap doesn't look like a leader. Chris Evans is. He doesn't really have any command in my eyes. And I can't think of one single thing he's been in that was very good. He may be about 30 years old, but he looks too much like a kid to be the guy who gets thawed out and instantly is the definition of heroic leader. As for hit and miss, Sebastian Stan really hasn't done much either. How is he a sure thing to do a great job?
As I've said, the movie looks great. The layout of the plot we have seen looks great. It's just the casting of Steve and Bucky does not, and will probably never, sit well with me.
I'm not one to doom a movie before watching it, but this movie just can't get me hyped for some reason. I'm watching because it is Captain America, but hopefully my low expectations will be easy to pass.
Yahoo posted an article talking about how they "shrank" Chris Evans for his "pre-serum" Steve Rogers. But more importantly, they included a clip!

I like the music they used for that scene, a lot. Who's the composer, again?
Howard Stark looks a fair bit like Prince there (to me). And like someone else said, glad the Red Skull looks like a super burn victim then literally just a skull.
Early reviews are out: So far it's looking . . . . . . . decent. Not Iron Man or Dark Knight awesome, but way better than Green Lantern or yes, even Thor.

Better than Thor is good enough for me. That movie barely passed the muster for 'acceptable.'
Really? I was under the impression Thor was pretty good. Rotten Tomatoes lists it as fresh with 77% rating by the critics.
The love story definitely turned people off I can understand that but other than that it was good IMO. Marvel have at least set themselves up on the right path for next year. That Avengers trailer made me a believer in that movie.
I liked Thor a lot. Yeah, the love story was rather lacking, but thankfully they didn't linger on it too much. There was plenty of Asgardian goodness to go around.
I also liked Thor, but if there's a sequel, I hope it's more in Asgard thwarting someone like Surtur's plans then hanging around in Earth/Midgard.

Pretty much my opinion in a nutshell; Thor adjusting to Midgard was great too.
If they say Captain America beats it on the 'hero movie' scale, then good chance I'll like it.
Saw the movie last night.
I really enjoyed the film. I thought the whole movie was well-paced as well. The movie was definitely better than Thor. I think it comes second to Iron Man and my friend said it was on par with. So take from that what you will.
Huh!? How did you see it already!?
A few more reviews have trickled in, and they're mostly positive. From what I'm seeing, the bad reviews are from reviewers who prefer their heroes to be dark and brooding types, or at least flawed. They're having trouble getting behind a hero who is, simply put, a nice guy. A noble nice guy. But isn't that sort of the whole point of Captain America? To be a moral compass? (my Cap knowledge is vague, forgive me)
Seems like those people are expecting Ultimate Cap.
