@olorin:
The term "battle" doesn't just say, that the ship "might" have weapons that "could" be used in a battle. A Battleship is a ship created solely for battle and destruction with as much firepower as possible and no regard for the safety of the crew. Just as the "Battle Frankys" were created with more and more powerful weapons to defeat a Sea King without regard for his own and others safety. Is that really so hard to understand?
Yes, because you don´t make any sense. Just scroll down to the next response and you´ll get what I mean.
There is no line to draw. It's like the difference between good and evil, safe and dangerous, big and small, light and darkness, …
A Battleship was created to seek battle and victory at all costs without regard for the crew, but his dream ship is meant to avoid battles and escape and protect the crew at all costs. Frankys dream ship is the total opposite of a Battleship and that's why it makes no sense for Franky to call his dream ship "battle something".
I'll try to give you a simular (very bad) example:
Let's say I'm a pacifist and someone gives me the nickname "Battle Olorin".
I certainly wouldn't like that, even though I have fists to protect myself at need.
So as a pacifist you wouldn´t be ok with being named "Battle Olorin" but it would be ok for you pacifist ways to carry around a weapon which you will use just for defenses? I´m sorry but this is silly. As a pacifist you wouldn´t be compfortable with carrying around weapons at any cost. Even if it is for the defense you wouldn´t like to use them.
That´s the whole point. Weapons are there for fighting. And if you carry them around you plan to use them in a fight. Same goes for Franky if he includes a weapon then the ship is there to be able to protect itself in a fight.
If Franky would build a ship without weapons that can only survive fights with super defenses or super speed (in other words escaping) then I would agree with you that the usage of the term "battle" wouldn´t fit because his ship clearly wouldn´t be made for battles then.
But if the ship includes weapons for the worst case scenario then it clearly indicates that Franky envisioned the ship to be battle ready when needed. Now is that so hard to understand?
So I repeat it to make it clear once more. If the ship includes weapons then they reflect the idea that the creator (Franky) wanted to make it battle ready.
And you try to convince me the entire time that Franky wouldn´t like the term "battle" because it would go against his promise while you are perfectly fine with weapons which would go much more against his promise. That´s where you´re being irrational IMO.
Oda likes to identify his characters with certain animals and the figurehead symbolizes that for the Going Merry. One can't just change that. And I see no reason why Oda/Franky would identify the new ship with a sheep just like the GM. That's not necessary at all to make it fit to the SHs. It wouldn't be very original and therefor unusual.
Kid relax, all I said is that I would find it a nice homage to GM. That´s all. But you keep trying to tell me the wrongs of it which is totally silly. I can consider it a nice homage as much as I want. It´s my personal opinion. Why do you insist so much on proving me wrong on a field that is totally based of personal likes and dislikes?
Please explain that for me. Without the sheep head the Going Merry is just an average Caravel. What part of it could possibly inspire the worlds greatest shipwright Franky to copy it for his dream ship. That what makes Going Merry so special and incredible is it's spirit that loves the SHs so much, that it manifested itself and even repaired itself after it was already at it's limit. There is no way for Franky to copy that. (other than with love)
You really take this too serious right? Just as I said in the previous paragraph it was all about personal likes and dislikes. I think that some visible little reference would be a nice tribute to GM and you already come up with utter crap how a caravel could inspire the worlds greatest shipwright. Relax dude.
I just thought you couldn't imagine the new ship being totally unique and different and still perfectly fitting for the SHs, because you were so persistent about making it resemble the Going Merry. I thought you needed that to make it "feel right", which seemed very strange to me, as Oda makes all his new characters very original and totally unique and still never disappointing. Sorry, I didn't want to sound offensive at all. I'm sure you love Oda just as much as I do.
Hey I´m completely positive that the new ship will look totally different then the old one. All I did is just speaking of the possibilities about it having some sort of tribute to GM that´s all. And you just try to prove me wrong on the field us subjectivness which is impossible. I can like what I want and you can´t change anything about it.
