Chapter 629:The Ex Warlord Stands In the Way
-
-
There were some spots that didn't get good cleaning in mangacurse's scan this week (which happens with any scanlator, as nobody's perfect). If you cross reference those spots with another group like mangastream, your concerns will probably be alleviated.
Nami looks pretty odd on page 11. Her eyes are too big.

Raw's finally up. I'm going to do something you want to look forward to.
You're getting more and more sympathetic to me. Although I have no idea who you are, I really appreciate your effort. Thanks in anticipation.

I am more interested in brook's power than anyone else. Nice to see that Oda is moving his powers/techniques away from his fencing style and focussing more on his ghostly and probably his musical powers. Definetly goign to have the most interesting powers out of the bunch in my opinion. My question is if his spirit could possess people with a weak ambition which would be VERY useful.

Nami's eyes are always huge. They look pretty normal to me.

I doubt it. Brook's Devil fruit allowed him to come back as a spirit and live a second life. With this reveal, it's apparent he could have chosen any body he wanted to, but he choose to return to his own body, even though it took him a year to find it and his flesh had rotted by that time. It's possible that he could possess another empty corpse, but I doubt he can just displace the soul of a living being with his own. That would be a bit much.
-
It was a great chapter, Robin and especially Brooks new abilities are great. In general I think I was really satisfied with this chapter. Even Daruma and his sharp teeth which were presented as a main threat and I saw them as a Meh material at best was nicely done, since I take the entire Hodi's group as nothing more than a minor obstacle which is there to fit in some kind of future plot twist.
So what more to say than, well so now what happens?
-
Well, it's pretty obvious that Big Mam is going to show up now, since Daruma is destroying her factory. Plus, Caribou's crew, along with his brother, are bound to show up soon and get tangled in this mess, too. I don't think Luffy's battle with Hodi is going to be what destroys Fishman Island, but rather a conflict with Big Mam. I think Hodi will OD on the Energy Steroids at some point and be KOed for trying to abuse the drug too much.
-
So, first of all it's Kokoyashi Village, not Kokonashi Village, but I guess you've figured out as much. Kokoyashi is simply 'coconut' in japanese.
Luffy seems more colloquial than they've portrayed it. He's saying something along 'Hey, shark, gimme a ride to the Ryuuguu Palace.' Speaking of which, Ryuuguu Palace is the palace of the mythical Ryuujin - Dragon God of the Sea. Funnily, in the japanese mythology, Otohime isn't the wife of Ryuujin, on whom Neptune is based, but his daughter.
I guess they've got it wrong when Jinbe was explaining the Fishman Karate. He said: 'The essence of the Fishman Karate is the total control of the water in the nearby vicinity. The impact from the wave will run through from the water in the atmosphere to the water in one's own body.' This way Jinbe shows how does Fishman Karate work, not what one has to do to master it. And that's what i got from reading their translation.
On the next page he's saying that 'A living being is a clump of water' and 'It won't go easy even on the rubberman.' Organisms ≠ living beings.
Also, Robin said 'I don't know what the circumstances are, but you're friends, right? You mustn't fight.' She's explicitly declared that they mustn't fight.
Lol, Jinbe isn't begging him to think. He said 'Try to think about it, Luffy…!! Up until now, each time Fishmen tried to widen their hearts to the mankind, humans've only hindered it. 'Humans are ferocious beings,' 'Humans contempt and despise fishmen.' For the Fishmankind history is repetitious. It's the truth what plants such menial changes. Same about Arlong... There isn't just a few thinking that Arlong was hunted down by humans because he was a fishman.'
Okay. This is half-way through the chapter. I'm also sorry for making it so stuck to the japanese. It's all for reason.
-
Awesome! Just read it and your explanation about japanese myths and stuff is interesting to read.
To be perfectly honest, I already thought that something with Robin's words might be wrong. And it's nice to have that confirmed. -
First off thanks for doing this. I've a little request if you don't mind… can you look at exactly what Jimbei is saying (well shouting) to Luffy after he blocks his attack? Is there anything indicating whether it's true disappointment with Luffy's growth, as the words would indicate at face value, or does it come off more as if he's saying it to give Luffy a "dose of reality" so to speak? Thanks in advance.
-
I just realized that is probably Nami's new Wanted Poster on the cover page. Maybe not the full body though.

Thank you for that Chihirou, the way you have translated it shows that there is room for growth in Jimbe, fantastic.
-
I can imagine next chapter we'll have the start of it being both Luffy and Jinbe arguing leading up to a fight, back to other matters in the palace, and then by the end of the chapter have Luffy stand over Jinbe on the ground defeated with a little blood dripping from his mouth and fists.
I'm really enjoying how Oda is keeping up with having Luffy being drawn as a much more muscular kid. I've been leaving a little room for doubt, but it seems Oda has been consistent with the little changes he's made with him.
-
All these little parrallels with Arlong Park in this chapter, Sanji getting in the middle of a fight like Usopp once did, Sanji appearing knocked out and smoking a cig lying on the ground, and one resident of the Island(Nami/Jimbe) trying to solve everything on their own not wanting Luffy's help. All it really means is Jimbe is joining 137%. :ninja:

He's simply saying: 'Are these the results of your training!!?'
Generally, I think they're often just too liberal, which apparently doesn't have a beneficial effect on their translations. -
I could see Luffy eventually understanding jinbe's side or at least trusting him enough to deal with it. But the only way I see that happening is if the SH's have to fight off Big Maam's subordinates from interfering in FI politics
-
Thanks for that, looks like they got that one right then.
-
I just realized that is probably Nami's new Wanted Poster on the cover page. Maybe not the full body though.
While that sounds logical, I'm pretty sure that the picture in the cover story is just for the newspaper. So the bounty pic remains the same.
-
Is it really a picture at all? What we see, that is? I read it as him seeing a shot of new Nami (presumably taken at Sabaody) and fearing that the men will be all over her, so to speak. Just like we saw him being outraged (he was even trying to call MHQ to complain) last time they put a picture of a lightly-clothed Nami in the newspaper.
New bounties probably aren't coming yet.
-
I also though it was just Genzo's imagination, actually… Actually, after looking at the pic again I'm now more sure that IT IS just Genzo's imagination and the pic in the newspaper is different.
-
When I see luffy in thi schapter it make me remember this line from Rayleigh: "Roger would always go into a frenzy when his friends or crew were threatened." The parallels are apparent.
-
I really can't wait for the big fight in order to see the level they obtained during their two years of training… Robin's ability got me the most interested
-
While that sounds logical, I'm pretty sure that the picture in the cover story is just for the newspaper. So the bounty pic remains the same.
Well during the first chapter of this cover story we can see small bounty pics of the crew with their updated looks. If you look carefully you can see the typical bounty outline below each straw hat. At the least only their pictures are updated, but chances are Genzo is looking at that photo of Nami and imagining her body or more photo's within the paper showing full body pics.
-
I absolutely LOVE Brook's new ability! It'll prove to be super useful!
Robin's ability is neat too, but I don't get why her clone has clothes when that's never happened with her powers before. It must be the same reason Luffy's clothes don't explode when he uses Gear Three. -
I'm wondering if Brook's powers can do anything else now. I'm hoping he'll be able to control a legion of the dead with his music. That would be pretty awesome
-
Maybe he can switch (dead) bodies ?
-
Maybe he can switch (dead) bodies ?
i was hoping that it wouldn't have to be bodies, but just any object without a soul. That way, Franky can build an epic robot for brook to use :D
-
I'm more interested in if something should put his original body in danger while he's out and about. Especially considering his afro.
-
Can Brook be harmed when he is in "ghost mode" ?
-
Alright. Time for the second round. I'm curious how long I'll be able to check this for before I get sleepy…?
First of all, they're adding too much to Jinbe's speech: 'Moreover, you guys've once sent Arlong to prison, but what'd happen if you were to fight with Hodi again!? In consequence… Even if the Fishmen Island'll be rescued from this crysis, Hodi'll be again opposed by humans. If you guys're going to try beating him up, you'll be but reminders of the never-changing history in the eyes of the Fishmen Island's citizens...!!!' Neither do I like what they've done with Sanji's speech: '–And Jinbe's the one to say it... It's natural to rescue your friends, who were caught. Also, if we were to leave the Fishman Island as it is, it'd degenerate under Hodi's control. For everyone on this island are our buddies...'
Continued Sanji's speech: 'Hey, Hachi… You're as obstinate as to not tell who'd injured you, but you said that Hodi'd raise hand on those Fishmen who'd try to get along with humans, right? Have they wounded you becasue you were on our side...!?'
Lol, Hodi and his boys. This sounds like Hodi runs a public house… Caimie simply says 'Is that so, Hachi!? Hodi and others/his gang/his group have/has done this to you!?'
Hachi: 'As long as Arlong's will lives on here, I won't have face to meet them!!'
Luffy: 'Then I only gotta beat the crap outta you to go~~~!!!' Yeah, there's no 'goddamit.'
Hodi: 'Leave behind some gatekeepers who'll open the gate once we come back.' Rest seems to be alright until: 'I'm running out of dope… Hey, Energy Steroids!' Which makes more sense to me and shows that Hodi's sidekick was daydreaming. '…Anyways, they're humans after all. They're going to drown if we're going to leave them alone...' Later he said: 'Is that so? We're ready to move them into houses. It'll be alright to use houses of those, who'll leave the country… and those, who'll die. Every citizen will despise humans... It's going to be a fine nation... Jahahaha!'
-
Can Brook be harmed when he is in "ghost mode" ?
That's one of the things which surely will be answered in the future. But if we use some 'natural logic' about ghosts, Brook should be fine. Thinking of his body in that special situation… well that's another story (although his body is already dead, especially in that state). Oh well, we'll see early enough.
And thanks again for your work chihirou.
-
Brook's afro would definitely be in danger if he leaves his body for too long. Someone smart like Law or Crocodile would definitely threaten him about it.
Arrrgh, I just want to go to the New World already! Anyone else feel this way? -
Nice! A Kokoyashi, cover! I have to say I'm surprised by the romanization of Bell-mére, thought it would be the romanization of the french word for stepmother.
But maybe he just forgot one letter. Nice upgrade on Nojiko and Chabo. had to laugh on Genzo's nightmarish Nami-fanatasies.
But bad Oda, for fucking up Nojiko's tribal tatoo. Pre-time skip it used to go across her shoulders and to the other arm aswell. And looks like the guys have some successful Mikan business going!
I already see it coming: "Bell-mére's Mikan" will become the Capsule Corp of this series, once Nami returns home. She will probably expand the business and become the richest chick on the planet. Maybe also gain world domination on the way. Who knows with Nami.:ninja:Some explanation on fishman Karate from Jimbei, and who would have thought, something like a taunt towards Luffy?
But as expected the fight ended on a comical note for now.My man Sanji's always good for a laugh. He managed to get beaten up, look like a total dork during it and still emerge as the most suave mofo. It's badass that he's not in a coma but smoking a cigarette, since he tanked both a punch from Jimbei AND Luffy.
Then there's Robin's clone. It has been foreshadowed, but now the door has been opened for a bazillion Robins + plus random bodyparts appearing out of thin air to mindrape the shit out of her enemies in the future. The greatness…I really hope Oda hasn't given up on Face Fleur yet... If used right Robin's fruit could be the creepiest one we've ever seen in the series. Especially if paired with her morbid humour!
But Brook's ability fascinated me the most...a skelleton asking girls for their panties? That's rather oldschool. But a ghost, playing poltergeist to peek on girls?
Epic Pervert Achievement unlocked! -
chihirou, thanks for this really
-
Can Brook be harmed when he is in "ghost mode" ?
More importantly, he may be immortal now, especially if he can switch bodies.
-
i was hoping that it wouldn't have to be bodies, but just any object without a soul. That way, Franky can build an epic robot for brook to use :D
That would be very cool
-
When do you guys think the fights will begin?
-
@Kaku-Kaku:
When do you guys think the fights will begin?
When oda intends to show them
-
Can Brook be harmed when he is in "ghost mode" ?
My question is can his ghost go under water?
-
My question is can his ghost go under water?
You should ask yourself first who can answer that question.
-
Can Brook be harmed when he is in "ghost mode" ?
i believe his skill works pretty much like perona's. the 'ghost' is invincible but he got a big trouble if someone attack his 'corpse'.
the thing is, can his ghost form attack / use some offensive skill? otherwise its just gonna useful when he needs to spy his enemies.
–----------------
can robin's clone actually walk or her feet just stuck in the ground? also, can the clone think and act by itself or she can only control the clone by leaving her real body unconcious (like perona/brook)?
-
-
Can Brook be harmed when he is in "ghost mode" ?
I'm more curious to know if he can "possess" other people and serve as a spy or something.

c-net's trans is up.

The trans confirmed the New Fishman Pirates are taking Neptune with them.

Booyah, Urouge.

The trans confirmed the New Fishman Pirates are taking Neptune with them.
Actually no, it didn't, in fact according to Cnet's translation Hodi doesn't say anything about bringing the King with them, or leaving him in the palace… All Hodi says is that it wouldn't be cool if he (as the 'New King of FI') were to stay locked outside of his own castle (and because of that they are leaving a few men inside to open the gates)...
The fact that they are bringing the King with them was implied in the previous chapter, when Hodi said that he will kill the King in the Gyoncord Plaza... If they are leaving the castle, and intend to kill the King in the Plaza, then they have to bring the King with them to the Plaza...

Oh yeah. Hodi claimed himself to be the new King. Completely misread that. My bad. Thought he was mocking Neptune instead of refering to himself.
-
The mangacurse translation said that they were going to leave the king there. This translation debunks that, basically.
-

I think he probably can. In a sense, he's "possessing" his own body right now.
-
Hey guys, I'm new here. I just wanted to say that this was a great chapter. It was good to see things heating up, especially with Hody who has captured the king and is about to kill the fishmen who supported Queen Otohime. I was expecting Luffy to use Haki on Jimbei though…....Anyway, I can't wait for the next issue.
