the Pain fight aside, Naruto does tend to get some nice fight scenes. And I mean, well-choreographed.
Lee vs Gaara, Lee vs Kimimaro, parts of Naruto vs Sasuke, Sasuke vs Killer Bee, just to name a few.
and it kinda makes me sad that One Piece can't get that kind of shit. I can't think of more than a few 30-second scenes from the war that were actually choreographed and animated well. c'mon, Toei. Step it up. If Naruto is making you look bad, then you know you're in trouble.
I would disagree with this, sure the Marinefold arc didn't have much 'fighting one on one' but then again, what do you choreographed when it was a war. There isn't much time to just stand around having an epic battle between two people, as you saw;
! Whitebeard mostly just used his powers or his pike to rock people, Luffy was just fighting his way through to get to Ace, and the only moments where there were distinct one-on-one fights were devil fruit users which honestly is hard to choreograph when things like Ivan and Kuma are fighting with projectiles and Jimbe and Moria wasn't long enough to do much. You could make a case and say that some of Boa Handcocks moves were done pretty well, her spinning and kicks were animated well but again, there wasn't much fighting going on as much as there was just pushing. It was a war, most of the battle was just whitebeard pirates shooting at marines, marines shooting back and sword fights. Any of the hand to hand stuff was well done but it didn't last long. I mean, it was a race against time afterall.
I'd make a case to say that One Piece isn't the kind of show that needs much choreograph aside from the major fights, and as far as those are concerned, they are done rather well, Luffy vs Lucci was a great example, as well as Luffy vs Crocodile or Sanji vs Kuroobi or Zoro vs Kaku. But I understand what you are saying, I do wish that at times fights were more lengthly in actual fighting with great choreograph, but I don't have a problem with how it is now.
