I am pleasantly surprised. Fairy Glitter isn't an uber hax, Bluenote continues to act like a top-tier enemy, and then one of the cooler characters in the series showed up for a very appropriate reason, setting up what should be an entertaining fight. There's really nothing to complain about here.
You win this time, Mashima.
Not a bad chapter, a bit short though. Cana, as expected, is weak as hell. I assume Freed/Bixlow are now also on the island to fight Azuma and Rustyrose…
I do, however, feel kinda bad for Cana. This arc all she is did was being a treacherous asshole in denial, and the one time has a chance to do anything, she's so weak she can't even hit the enemy one single time.
All I have to say is if Gildarts is made to not have been her father all along, I would not be pleased at all.
Gildartz will die now. He shouldn't have come back. Tsk tsk tsk.
Bluenote is about to get his face smashed in, instead of him smashing in other people's faces. You don't mess with the daughter of the most powerful guild member.
So, yeah, great chapter. Like others have said, it's good to see the ultimate magic requires a powerful user; I guess Mavis was indiscriminate when it came to doling it out. Next chapter sounds like a Gildarts flashback… this should be interesting.
Mashima makes things look cool.
Gildarts leaves the island for some reason just to come and save his daughter the last second.
Not complaining though, it was a good chapter for Fairy Tail standards.
I like that "for Fairy Tail standards" thingy.
It was nice to see Cana being useless, now we'll just wait for Raiden dude to arrive.
And chucklepants : No, no one will die in FT, Makarov who was so dead didn't.

People have died in Fairy Tail, just not actual Fairy Tail Guild Members. Simon was killed by Gerard, and Racer blew himself up in an attempt to kill himself and Leon. The guy possessing Capricorn just died, too.
Oh sorry for not being clear but i meant the Guild and especially in this arc.

I'm pretty sure a member died in a flashback.
Lisanna.
Who never died to begin with.
What about that old guy from Erza's flashback?
Glad that just because you have all powerful magic, doesn't mean you have the power of the asspull.
Bluenote's design still annoys me so much, just because of how…awkward everything about him looks, that massive braid and his long flat nose, it just all looks off.
At least Gildartz arrived to save the day.
I didn't count Rob because it was a flashback, but he would count as a Fairy Tail Member that died. If we're counting flashbacks, though, a slew more characters died.
About time!
Hm… Why do I have a feeling even Gildartz won't be able to beat Bluenote single-handedly?
Instead, he and Cana are probably going to have a teamwork father/daughter bonding moment where they beat Bluenote 'together' by Cana channeling the power of Fairy Glitter through him or something along those lines...

It'd be more hilarious if Gildarts' Disassemble Magic makes dozens of tiny Bluenotes, who all try to use their Gravity Magic at once… and create a mini Black Hole that sucks them all in it, ending the fight.
I liked how Mashima gave an open for characters to know more then one type of magic.
So far all weve' seen is Makarov and Luxus use different types.
But they are going to keep one of the tiny Bluenotes as a pet, and after some time, even his cold heart will melt and he will protect HIS GUILD OF FAIRIES! YEAAAAH!!!
I think Gildrats is going to die (or get wounded pretty badly like losing an arm) that would probably be what Wendy's cat saw in her premonition.
Next chap, Gildartz: "I'm here to end this war. Everyone, I'm gonna have you save face for me!"
…Gildrats is going to die (or get wounded pretty badly like losing an arm)
I think in his case the proper expression would be losing the arm.
Shanks appears. XD
Well, if you count the artificial one, you could say that.
Now it's three :ninja:
Gildarts comes, stops the warexam, beats Bluenote, and… status quo is reinstated?
What's one of the four emperors doing here?
@Sonic:
What's one of the four emperors doing here?
He's Shanks SY, he can be in whatever manga he wants.
shanks? I'm sorry I just don't see it
i wonder if the author of fairy tail realizes that gildarts is practically a copy of shanks, not that its bad since shanks is awesome and the only reason i got into fairy tail is because of gildarts : P
Well, most male heroes need a strong role model to look up to, and because of that they act pretty alike. This is on the other hand, the Marineford finalé.
I guess Luxus is on the GH ship beating up Hades.
I wouldn't be surprised if we cut to Hades beating the crud out of him.

Hasn't Charle's vision possibly been fulfilled, from what we've seen? The shots seemed to be only related by coincidence - the arm seems to be Lucy's when she was knocked unconscious (there was a panel during that time which looked exactly like the one from the vision), Cana crying was just last chapter, Natsu in tears would either be after losing to Gildartz or something that hasn't happened yet, and Zeref could be from any point throughout the arc. It wouldn't be the first time that Charle's prophecies have been an unrelated string of images that she shaped into meaning something that it didn't actually mean.
Natsu wasn't crying like that when he lost to Gildartz and Lucy's hand really doesn't look that small when she got knocked out.
I wouldn't put it past Mashima to do something like that though
I hope we see more from Mest.

It's Hiro we're talking about here.
His foreshadowing can literaly mean anything, thanks to Fairy Tail's strongest magic: Retcon.

That or Charle's visions are a joke and she can't really control her precog
Or they might "mix" in stuff that's not real , like what was used to make the Exceed seem sinister, and then was completely dropped to make them weak and fragile.

Seems like s-class mages are the ones capable of that.

Not when he's using 2 of FT's most powerful magic at once.
The chapter sucked until Gildarts showed up. And that's all I care about now.

Gildartz is such a Badass!!! I want one of either 2 things from the next chapter.. either we get a proper fight between Gildartz and Bluenote.. or Gildartz just whoops bluenotes ass
One thing I was kinda dissapointed with, was the way we found out about Cana being Gildartz' daughter, this is where I think that Fairy Tail lacks in the story department, something like this brushed over it too quickly in my opinion, If it was drawn out in depth about Cana being Gildartz daughter, It would have invoked a more emotional response from me, but thats not to say it was a completely bad thing.. its just that it could have been handled better.

this is indeed true…..edoras pills anyone?
Mashima avoided his typical pitfalls, and this, a good chapter.
I wish Cana didn't suck.

According to Mashima, that's where your magic comes from?
Q Hayashida's explanation still stands.

holy shit this a new low for mashima.

Care to explain why you hated this chapter? Everyone else seems to like it, or at least part of it.
