So when's the new chapter again? Because you guys are getting me excited.
God I love Justin!! Can't wait for this!
! So, did Tezca die or Justin? Illusion fights are so confusing. I'm pretty sure that Tezca was killed for real this time, but you never know… it could have been a reflection and Justin could have been decapitated.
!
! I can't die.
@Fire Fist:
! So, did Tezca die or Justin? Illusion fights are so confusing. I'm pretty sure that Tezca was killed for real this time, but you never know… it could have been a reflection and Justin could have been decapitated.
! …You're seriously confused?
! Was having his severed head get shaken around inside his mask as confirmation while Justin whistled happily over it not suggestive enough for you?
! And Hiroy, you may wanna spoiler that.
! This more or less confirms Tezca's true identity is important. Who knows, it could be someone we know very well.
So where can I find this chapter? Because I really want to read this one!
Now I have a question. This obviously takes place before Soul Eater, because Sid and Medusa are still around, Kim and Jackie are not a team, etc.
Then how come in the last chapter, they referred to Soul as a "Death Scythe"? Is that referring to his class of weapon, as opposed to grade?

They called him a "Demon Scythe" and yes, that's the kind of weapon he is.
So far I am having a hard time liking those three girls from the NOT! series. I do however like the focus on kim.
! And Hiroy, you may wanna spoiler that.
[hide]Huh? I thought I got that from chapter 85 while the raw spoiler(in this topic) links to chapter 86. My bad. I thought it was from an older chapter. [/hide]
This premise reminds me of mutants in X-Men. People with abilities and a school set up to help them control their abilities and integrate them into a society which fears them.
A decent chapter overall and again I'm thankful for the additional information on Shibusen and its students. I just hope this "traitor" thin will turn into something more serious and not fizzle out into a semi-serious arc.
They called him a "Demon Scythe" and yes, that's the kind of weapon he is.
ah, so I read it wrong. Thanks.
and I agree with Geppetto that the main girls are not doing a lot to make me love them. moar moe plz lololo
I like the girls. It'll just take more time to further develop them individually and as a team. I think when they at least start fighting together we'd have a better feel for them. It is true these last two chaps haven't done much for me with them but I still think the potential in the first 3 chaps still has hope.
! …You're seriously confused?

Wait just a second, Silence…
! I don't think it's that clear. True, Justin confirmed his identity, but… just one chapter ago Tezca got cut in half, and instead of falling he suddenly made many copies of himself. Then all the copies got dismembered, there was nothing around nor any indication the real Tezca was hiding somewhere, but what I'm going to say... all the scattered parts suddenly went and reformed into one single entity.
! So the question is, is Tezca only mirror reflections? Because for what I could see, all the body parts seemed real to me, not just illusions.
! And don't forget that Tezca already fooled everyone into thinking he was killed by one of Noah's worms.
! If Tezca pulls another naruto-style "I'm still alive!" reveal I don't know what to think. It will have made these two chapters meaningless, for one thing. But if he is really dead, for real, then I still don't see what was the point. Why bring him back only to kill him off again? Justin has already passed the point of no redemption. I was really expecting Tezca to make Justin retreat, but that doesn't look possible at all at this point.

It won't be meaningless, let me explain to you…
! Tezca still had some hope Justin could go back to his senses, and that's why he followed him alone, even to the point he had no choice but to leave his partner behind as well, perhaps for his safety. But in this fight, Tezca who tried everything to convince Justin (he had no intention to kill him, that's why he missed his solar ray purposely), finally understood there was no point anymore in using wise words and, maybe resigned, accepted that Justin passed as you said the point of no redemption.
! With his mind made, the next time they meet will be the last, and Tezca won't hold back anymore. Afterall, Justin is heading towards killing another person that threats the sleep of the Kishin: Crona. Oh, and what coincidence, Tezca is there too and Maka, Soul, Stein, Kim and Jackeline are heading there as well.
Wait just a second, Silence…

The bits and pieces that were cut apart didn't bleed - this one did for sure. When "Tezca" was killed by Eibon, the same thing happened. Is it possible that this is another fake body, and that Tezca only reflected an image of himself being killed while replacing his true form with a dummy? …It's possible. But I'd be really surprised if that was the case this time. The chapter is spent trying to convince Justin to return to Shibusen, and Tezca deceived even them so he could pursue Justin on his own and try to bring him back. In the translation, Tezca is trying to convince Justin to stop and saying he won't run and hide this time, and as Justin is shaking the severed head in the mask, he's saying "confirmation of the identity."
! Frankly, it's like Lith says: what purpose would another "I'm still alive" reveal even serve?
! He's dead Jim.
And Hiroy:
! My bad, I assumed you had looked at the raw from the latest chapter and were suggesting that Tezca couldn't possibly be dead. My mistake!
So…I stopped at like...chapter 100?
I guess Mangastream stopped, 'cause it's not in their directory.
My library only has up to volume 5.
SO I just wanna know; where can I catch up?
chapter 100? damn, where've you been reading? :P We're up to chapter 85, with 86 raws floating around. I read most of my stuff on mangareader, because it is the new onemanga in many regards. Not sure where you could find "better" scans.
And your library is up to date with the English translations, by the way.
Wow, really?
Where'd I get 100, then?!
O___O
So, Mangareader was correct. Thanks, Lith.

Yeah that always annoyed me, there are some people out there who say "don't read online translations it's piracy!" which as Silence pointed out, is essentially true. But Soul Eater has roughly 20 volumes in Japan and only 5 volumes translated overseas, if there's any manga we're in the right to read online, it's that one, since about three quarters of the series isn't available in English by legal means. And on that note, yeah we're pirates, but it's not a horrendous crime, it's not like the mangaka are harmed that much. They make way more money with their Japanese fans.

You could… wait?
You could... not read them?
You could... go do something else, I mean, it's not like you're owed Soul Eater chapters.
You mentioned me, so, I could get started.
How are we in the right? In any way?
It's not like American companies stagger their releases just because cleaning and translating just takes so long? No. They do it because if they released all of the material at once, sales would be terrible. There aren't many people who have the money to purchase 10 volumes of a series in one go when they go to a bookstore, and there isn't room on the shelves for that many releases.
Bookstores would end up with lots of copies that didn't sell what they were worth, and a backroom full of unopened and unsold copies. Ideally, if demand was like it was in Japan, you would release a volume, have it get the sales it gets, and then, after you were sure as many people had it as were likely to, release the next, and so forth. But there aren't a huge variety of titles that sell so well in the US. And our market was oversaturated with a huge number of titles that don't really sell all that great. As a result, many bookstores are now relegating less and less shelf-space to manga (and anime too, for that matter).
Every week, Japanator lists the New York Time bestsellers for manga. You may notice that most lists are dominated by manga aimed at or with heavily female fanbases. A shonen title is not guaranteed to be a bestseller by any means. Or a top seller, either. Really only Naruto, FMA, and Bleach are that fortunate.
It's illegal - not unfairly - and the mangaka ARE harmed. You know there are Japanese people who read the raws and online scans in Japan so they don't have to buy the actual material too, right? While it's true that the proceeds trickle down to the creators, and more money tends to be made from merchandising than manga sales in the case of most series… manga isn't some ridiculously lavish experience. A lot of creators are living hand to mouth and working their ASSES off for their art. They get not one red cent the moment someone photocopies their work - their blood and sweat - and puts it online.
It's a slippery slope when you get into talking about whether you're in the right or not when creators have been extremely open about asking people not to do it. Are there series I never ever would have known about were it not for the internet? Absolutely, and in a way, that does help drum up interest for them. Soul Eater is actually one of them. It has a fanbase it otherwise wouldn't have had if it weren't for the anime. But if people don't buy something when it comes out? Like, really, really support it, the few legit US companies we have that haven't died off by now are just flushing money down the toilet.
I would pay for an online manga reader service in a second. But I have no misconceptions about what is right or wrong when it comes down to the bottom line. Online translations are piracy.
Your moral mileage may vary.
are we gonna do this again? have this whole talk again?
I just want to say that if it weren't for online scanlations, the amount of manga I buy would be VERY much reduced. For example, I read Soul Eater before it started coming out in the states. Now that it is, I have all 5 volumes. I support my favorite series readily.
and yes, if someone actually got their act together and put up an online manga viewer, I would use the shit out of that.
You could… wait?
I don't want to
You could… not read them?
No. Soul Eater isn't my favorite series but it's high on my list, which admittedly isn't very extensive, but it's a good manga and therefore I want to read it.
You could… go do something else, I mean, it's not like you're owed Soul Eater chapters.
I guess you're right that there's plenty of other series out there.
You mentioned me, so, I could get started.
Just because I thought you argued yourself really well. If you don't mind my saying, you're overreacting a bit I wasn't saying anything bad about you if anything it showed that I remembered what you said, I respect your opinion.
How are we in the right? In any way?
OK looking back on my post I did say "if there's any series we're in the right to read it's Soul Eater" which isn't true first off, there's exceptionally good manga that haven't even been translated over in the U.S. and let's not forget I think only part 3 of JJBA is translated. What I meant was that compared to One Piece and Naruto where 90% or more has been translated overseas, it's more justified to read Soul Eater than those series, comparatively but yeah I concede that one, that was a foolish statement on my part.
It's not like American companies stagger their releases just because cleaning and translating just takes so long? No. They do it because if they released all of the material at once, sales would be terrible. You are correct again. One Piece and Naruto got most of their volumes translated because their very loyal fanbases were fed up with waiting and wanted volumes released faster, admittedly that's an assumption I don't know for sure but I think I'm on the mark. Soul Eater's fanbase isn't nearly as large or even as devoted as OP and Naruto's. Berserk also has most of its volumes translated but that's mostly because volumes come out so freaking slowly they might as well get as many translated as possible, and to a lesser extent because the fans are very loyal. I'm not positive but I think it's a fairly similar situation with HxH but don't quote me.

I honestly have nothing to say to this. You're obviously just smarter than me.
And sadly only one of those series is consistently good
It's illegal - not unfairly - and the mangaka ARE harmed. You know there are Japanese people who read the raws and online scans in Japan so they don't have to buy the actual material too, right? I DIDN'T know that, this really helps me see the issue in a different light. Obviously I didn't think that NO ONE in Japan got the idea to watch scans online, but I thought it was very seldom, it's probably not as common as here (once again an assumption, but a fair one). And yeah dude, I read Bakuman I know this, I know this. I want to be a writer when I grow up but I'm prepared to accept the reality that it won't always be easy, or even fun.
It's a slippery slope when you get into talking about whether you're in the right or not when creators have been extremely open about asking people not to do it. Yeah I got into Soul Eater manga because I saw the openings and thought "That looks cool and I'm going to check that out" I probably wouldn't bat an eyelid for it otherwise. And BBL just said he buys the Soul Eater volumes when they come out, and I like to buy volumes of series that I particularly liked when they come out but anyway.
I would pay for an online manga reader service in a second. But I have no misconceptions about what is right or wrong when it comes down to the bottom line. Online translations are piracy.
Yeah, same here, what the hell happened to that JManga thing? Although I would like it if they had a good selection, not just Jump series but other magazines. I must concede to you, you definitely know what you're talking about, I don't. But let's face it neither you nor I (well maybe you) are going to stop reading online until Shueisha (and the other publishing companies) get the idea to create a legal online publishing site that runs efficiently and has reasonable prices. Which last time I checked they were actually working on that, so good.
Your moral mileage may vary.
Nah, you got it down. It's wrong when you get right down to it, it's just no one really feels any shame for it. Sadly?
Edit: By the way, I still don't know how to multi-quote right, so I'm glad that I put in everything in bold. And I love how at first I'm resistant but soon enough I realize my logic was pretty mediocre and completely submit. At least I know to go down quietly.
So is this chapter online anywhere to be read yet?
Caught up with Soul Eater Not!
This is getting interesting, and it's nice seeing how the school itself is being fleshed out.
I wonder if all new students start in the NOT classes then get moved to the EAT class if they turn out to be talented.

! If only Tezca had fought with killing intent… it's ironic, isn't it? The two who could find the Kishin were killed, and by the same person, no less.

Oh, I didn't take your quoting me as a negative! It's nice to be quoted. I debated on saying anything at all, but I figured that since I was mentioned I'd put in my two cents and further clarify my point. And don't worry, hahaha, I still like you!
American Shonen Jump and US manga sale proceeds are… well, frankly, it's difficult to measure just how much of it the authors will actually see. It's not like there are any resources where you can learn, quantitatively, how much of what is made goes back to the mangaka. But yeah, japanese mangaka, when they talk about the whole scans industry, are probably more often talking about japanese scanners than they are US scanners, because it more directly affects what they earn. I don't know the degree to which it's ballooned there, and wouldn't be able to tell you if it's gotten anywhere near as huge here as it has there, but in Japan people who are caught uploading scans go to jail. A lot of spoiler providers and raw providers have dropped out of the game for just such reasons over the years.
The publishing industry is very, very slow to capitalize on online readers and I bet it would vastly increase its profit margins if it did. However, unfortunately, paper publishing is one of the oldest and most notoriously resistant industries to change, and I can tell you for sure they're worried people will lose their jobs if they make any concerted effort towards lowering their print output - because, no getting around it - less people will buy books if an online option exists. And the existence of online readers would not stop there from being people who still wanted to view it for free, so it's a very difficult and uncertain thing to shift your industry towards. Which is a darn shame.
Manga have changed my life and provided me with some of the best entertainment I've ever had. My bookshelves have every Blade of the Immortal and Berserk volume Dark Horse ever released, and there's all the Hunter X Hunters and lots of One Piece up here too, once it got its act together. Old Naruto volumes, some D. Grayman, and a few others. My sister has a metric buttload of Shojo series, all of Chrono Crusade, some Soul Eater, Hot Gimmick and so on. We have a huge stack of American Shonen Jump issues, though we frankly think it sucks. And we do it out of respect and a booklover's love.
But we're not nearly blameless in all this, so we can't judge. I only take issue with the general attitude some folks (not you) have, though. Not the absence of shame, but the denial of it. And the entitlement a lot of folks feel towards manga because of scanslations (i.e. "I'm owed this, Kubo owes me, his fan, quality manga" when they aren't buying anything of his at all and never have.)
I'm not everybody though.
Now you say…

! Well, there's one more with the potential… Maka better watch her back!

Finally a clear translation of the chapter.
! Yup, Tezca is dead.
i buy manga whenever i can, but otherwise i illegally read chapters until the cows come home. i love manga like an addict loves his drugs.
as long as the chapter providers continue to exist, they continue to have my appreciative viewership.
and then when i can, i support the series by buying its volumes.
it will take me a long while, but every manga that i have ever enjoyed reading (that also has an english release) will end up getting bought by me.
so i feel no guilt at all when i drive through 200+ manga chapters in an afternoon, lol.
If Tezca died that would be the second lame death in a row.
I really like the panel of Justin shaking Tezca's hollow mask, hearing his head rattling around inside, and making a little musical note emote of joy. It just screams "everything about this is fucked up" in several ways.
I don't know how to feel about this, for one it forms justin as a monster, maybe it's result of the author going "shoo fangirls shoo, he's a horrible human being, don't lust after him!".
On the other hand, TPLZ is cool, and if he escaped again he'd be a lot less cool.
Death scytes are going down, one maddened, other in black blood and other most likely dead.

Without popularity pools there's no way to tell for sure, they should send him lots of letters with "Justin sama is so keewl!", that's probably why Giriko died a pussy death and then died as a woman.
Until further info, the main point of this fight was to confirm Justin finally crossed the line.
Btw, if Tezca is dead, can you imagine what could happen if he's actually someone we know very well? Also, Justin "killed" him for pretty much the same reasons he killed BJ.
Just read the chapter. I think he's dead for real this time, unless he pulls off something behind Justin's back.
Just read the chapter. I think he's dead for real this time, unless he pulls off something behind Justin's back.
And where did you do this good sir?
Wow, Tezca's really dead huh? I believe it and if he is actually alive after all of that and already escaping once before then I'd be a more than a bit off put.
Without popularity pools there's no way to tell for sure, they should send him lots of letters with "Justin sama is so keewl!", that's probably why Giriko died a pussy death and then died as a woman.
Personally that annoyed me, Giriko was cool and he deserved better. You're right that fangirls who try to justify Giriko, Justin and other "pretty boy" villains are annoying as hell and I think it's best to try and discourage them as much as possible by making these villains as creepy as possible, but that was still lame. The thing is, some fangirls will forgive anything. Look on TV Tropes, even Envy! and Griffith! have fangirls who try to justify them! (If you know FMA and Berserk than you know what I'm talking about and how disturbing that is). But anyway, I want to read this chapter, I think I need to see for myself if I'll still enjoy it even with all of this information.
Edit: The woman part didn't really bother me (though it was weird) the underwhelming death is what did it.
Edit 2: Thank you good Hiroy!
Edit 3: Just got done reading it. I'm with Silence. Yikes. I don't mind Tezca's death (I've already said I'm not a big Tezca fan) you're right we already knew Justin was beyond redemption, but Okubo has done a very good job of reinforcing it I'd have to say.
Griffith is likeable untill.. THAT point.
Envy is the personification of the envy of a thing that wanted to be a god, it gets some slack due only having one emotion.
I liked Giriko, his weapon was awesome. Anyway, nice chapter. So Tezca is really dead now, at least I hope he doesn't reappear because that'd be kind of stale since it already happened once.
Envy is the personification of the envy of a thing that wanted to be a god, it gets some slack due only having one emotion.
Doesn't change the fact that he (spoilers) SHOT A LITTLE GIRL! And through this he sent an innocent man to prison, caused a war that killed thousands of people, created Scar who killed (roughly) a dozen people (who sans Shou Tucker weren't very bad) before his redemption, the death of Winry's parents (by Scar) and ENVY WAS PROUD OF IT. He considers it his greatest accomplishment. Now don't get me wrong, I love Envy, there are few (if any) manga villains I love more. This development is actually what really started to endear FMA to me as one of my favorite manga. But I love him as A VILLAIN and I won't try to forgive any of the evil aspects of his character (although Arakawa was kinda able to do it at the end, just because she's a very good mangaka). But anyway OT.
I actually liked Giriko's death. He literally got so fucking angry that his soul exploded. That's pretty hard core.
How good is this manga? Beelzebub good?
