9.0 earthquake hits Japan
-
-
My blood is no good for I am a candidate for diabetes, my money can't become dolars and wire it to where it's needed because I'm in venezuela, I should go to the japanesse embasy and ask if there's something that I can do. I didn't do a thing while Haiti, Katrina, Chile, and only bought some baby food and water in the local floods last december.
Stay strong Japan.
-
Can't we just ignore those idiots completely? Half of the thread is people getting pissed about these comments. The mods will deal with this.
Good to hear some "real" news from someone in Japan. At least the nuclear danger seems to be avoided.
Exactly, let the mods handle the asinine comments. If you must you can inform the mods of a stupid poster but don't give their comments undo attention by quoting it a hundred times.

I'm doing the text donation.

God I am a father myself and that video is just heartbreaking, I really hope this man's family turns out alright. Thanks for showing this Greg, this is a lot better than the half-assed news reports around here to understand the suffering of those people.

Embassies are good places to go if you want to help and don't have other resources – they will usually take yuor local currency and usually have lists of local aid organizations for donation of supplies, etc.
Also, check el Universal -- they appear to have thorough coverage of the quake and will probably list some local relief/donation/etc sites on their main page eventually too:
http://www.eluniversal.com/index.html
Good luck!
-
Is it true you can't donate blood if you're diabetic?
If so, I guess I can't do that either.

Thanks, but nothing yet, the embasy page is still on "japanesse cultural week" as the top news.

Well, I'm pre-disposed Geneticaly to be diabetic, I've heard from my father (and uncle) that they can't donate blood because of it. Not sure myself, never checked, it's something that I've heard since I was so young that I've never doubted it.
-
Diabetics can donate blood since diabetes is a disease condition affecting insulin production which is done in the pancreas. It is not a blood borne disease.
You can't donate blood if you are taking medication for diabetes maintenance such as insulin injections because it will affect the blood sugar levels of the recipients. Acute hypoglycemia is a dreadful state.

I'm pretty sure that's true, I don't even think I can because I take OCD medication, well that's what someone told me, I'll have to check
so the situation is stabilizing now? I hope nothing else happens now, I'll pray for all of you in Japan, and find some way to make any donation I can
-
Heso!
I thought for anyone who might be worried about Kappei. He is alright and just put up a message.

I donate and I've been diabetic for almost 13 years. Go ahead and go for it.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

Ok so, I just saw quite a few of the American Facebook and Twitter comments about The earthquake… and how some people seem to think that Japan bombing Pearl Harbor back in WWII somehow makes this tragedy a good thing...
I am now, TRULY, Enraged and ashamed that I'm American.
-
You know, people will be complete monsters. That's just some people. I don't know but I'm more pissed that at the moment, I can't do a single thing besides inform people. It's a strange feeling, I feel helpless, and I really wanna help out.
I'm also a bit sad with half of the people that have the attitude of "Oh, well Japan is on the other side of the world, doesn't matter". I understand about having your own life, I'm not expecting everybody to stop their lives for strangers on the other side of the world, but don't pretend nothing happened, and ridicule those for caring.
-
It's pretty stupid. People are now spreading around a video that says Japan kills 23,000 dolphins a year and the government allows it. Because of the tidal waves, people are commenting on the video saying that Japan got owned by the dolphins and that they deserved it. It's pretty sad to look at these comments. If anyone want to see them,
there. I'm not trying to get anyone to comment and flame these people but to see how sad these people are. -
No, I would say it's best to ignore asshats like that completly.
-
Does anyone know which countries are aiding with relief machinery like helicopters and bulldozers?
-
My family needs a car that we've got lined up to pick up tomorrow.
After that, I'll know what extra we have, and I DEFINITELY plan on donating at that point. They helped us out during Katrina, and even if they didn't, it's the right thing to do.

Inhumanity towards animals is not something I agree with, but that doesn't mean I think they "got what they deserved". America is just as cruel to the goddanm cows.

Actually, it's the other way around. It's just that the assholes tend to be louder and get more attention.

But Dolphins are so much cuter and intelligent.
And cows are so delicious. -

Don't blame it on yourself. As a matter of fact, you did not say these stupid comments. Let them be stupid (a downside of freedom) because that's how they chose to live their life

Okay, HISTORY channel can officially go fuck themselves! In the wake of the Tsunami and Earthquake in Japan, they decide it's best to hold a marathon of doomsday prophecy shows. That's one less channel I'm going to be watching.
And this comment on the ANN boards bothered me:
I think this is getting pretty one sided. While I definitely care for the Japanese, I also care for the anime. My greed is definitely partly to blame when I say this, but a frozen industry is never good. "Help your people, donate, but keep your industry moving" is probably the best thing I could think of at this point. Unfortunately that's the only way our economy works, and donations only help so much compared to a whole country's work force.
Japan should rely a bit more on foreign help as well. They should have called out for help instantly, yet we still have organizations "on hold" because "Japan didn't ask for it".
Typical anime politicians on that board…

By now, that's Hystory channel regular programing.

Yeah, is this "marathon" even anything special? I'm interested in history but it's hardly ever talking about history when I turn it on. It's always about doomsday theories and it's getting really annoying.
-
Yeah, but in the wake of this disaster, it just feels incredibly insensitive and arrogant for the channel to go through with this.
-

I thought the History Channel were still on Nazi Week.

It's Ancient Aliens and Doomsday shit now.

Some even said they'd nuke the whole nation off the planet. Because of dolphin catchers.
Leaving aside the hideous notion that dolphins matter more than fucking human beings, the majority of Japanese either aren't really aware of the dolphin hunting, or they're opposed to it too. And you know what? Dolphins? Not endangered. Any environmentalist worth his or her salt would be worried about sharks, tuna and pretty much all other fish. They only care about dolphins because they're fucking cute. Fuck that noise.

Can't Tell If Serious…...

Earthquake was brutal…. but to top it all off, now their nuclear powerplant's about to explode or at least emit a horrible radiation;;;;;;
god I hope nothing bad happens.... like all people in Japan badly affected by the excess radiations.
that would be like the ol'Hiroshima radiation chrisis all over again.... ugh []

@Mr.333:
Can't Tell If Serious…...
Pretty sure that was entirely sarcasm.

I woke up to the sound of my mom crying today. The houses have been completely submerged and we still don't have any confirmation. If there had been a tsunami warning, people could have easily escaped to higher ground. I remember when I visited Japan a couple times, there were mountains nearby… I wish someone could tell me that everyone was safely evacuated. That there was enough warning for people to get to higher ground. But that's not the case is it..? I am at a loss. I feel like I have to say something to comfort my mom but I have no words. And if she saw me crying as I am now, I think that would make things worse too.
you don't know anything yet. keep strong until you know. and it's ok to cry. let it out deary.
The aftermath videos are even more scary than the tsunami and earthquake videos…
I mean, entire cities and towns are now literally reduced to nothing but dirt. I can't even imagine how long it will take to recover them. This is truly going to be one of Japan's largest disasters, I bet.
i don't mean this in an insensitive but at least if the area is clear, it will be easier to rebuild. what do you even do in those areas with all that debris.
@mdmartin101:I really wish I could go to Japan to help. It really sucks being in school right now, not having money to donate, or being able to help…..
you can go door to door, or collect donations from all your classmates. ask your teacher about doing a fundraiser like a bake sale at school. sell some stuff to raise money. that would be a big sacrifice.
When you donate, make sure it is a reliable website, organization or sources.
Dishonest people will take advantage of people's misery to take the money they did not earn for their own selfish purpose.
thought this was important enough to quote.
@Al!naJames:
I donated via Lady Gaga's store http://bit.ly/f0aYwZ
For me it's one of the most reliable places.Doesn't look like OP will be broadcasted today. I mean, sure, I am not expecting it, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get anything for a few weeks to come. Praying for Fukushima.
may I ask, out of curiosity, where IS toei animation located?
wow. greg and steve set up english dialogue for japan? (or something like that) that's pretty impressive.
i'm gonna look up some of these donation things. i've never given blood before. ….
-
I glad you are OK ! I've been feeling very sad and concerned about my friends… Thank You for the list of Links for sending $ to help... I'm sending my heart & dreams to all the wonderful people of Japan ------------>>>>

US Naval Ships and aid is known as OPERATION : TOMODACHI
-
By now, that's Hystory channel regular programing.
It's pretty amusing that a channel that calls itself 'history" is mostly dedicated to retarded prophecies. What a waste of time.

So it's really Operation: Friendship?

This has what exactly to do with the earthquake? I'm sorry but this just looks like a fail attempt for talk shit about another site. If you read the rest of the thread you'd notice that Gaara has been called out my virtually every single person in that thread. His rep even went from green to red. There's always gonna be one idiot no matter where you go.

I agree that the Media is having a frenzy with this..
I live in Vancouver and my wife is from Tokyo..
It was a major shock for sure.. but honestly of all the poeple I have spoken with, My Japanese family and friends are the ones least shocked and terrified. What happened was intense and of course a creepy reminder of the power of nature.. and how powerful the present moment is…
But I hope we can send as much positivity to those in need...
Either with financial support, or just thought/ prayer.....All my love and sympathy to our brothers and sisters in Japan...

Did some donating before attending my weekly routine of food distribution at my mom's church. My hopes are with the people as a whole.
