Man i wish i could go back and experience it all again for the first time. Not counting Woli there is nothing in this story that i can think of that was truly bad.
- Hyping up Kimura’s retirement only to walk it back?
Cant say I hate having him around but him retiring and becoming a buddy that visits the gym would make a stronger story.
- Ippo never understanding that trying to tank shots to the the head isn’t a very sufficient strategy in the long term?
Eh. That's more a manga thing than a Ippo choice. He tries to avoid damage (as much an infighter can) but to be entertaining he typically have opponents that have special technique made to fuck his body in special ways. The only time I think he went for broke for real was was when he tried to one hit ko a dude.
And aside from maybe 1-2 fight I do quite enjoy the Ippo fights.
- Morikawa hyping up Randy Boy as being Miyata’s ultimate opponent besides Ippo and having them fight relatively early in the manga effectively leaving Miyata with no major opponents to go against……”since we still can do Ippo-Miyata properly”.
I dont know if it was hyped up. It's not like there was long standing rivalry that he finally fufilled. It kinda came out of nowhere that this guy existed and served as a way to not have the actual hype up fight happen.
You say it was too early for the hyped fight. I say the mistake was having Randy exist instead of just do the Ippo fight and then have them both move to new things after.
I do think Miyata need to move a class or 2. And start moving to a new goal.
- The feet dragging on Kumi & Ippo becoming an official couple and the brief but still weird diversions with Itagaki’s sister & Mari?
Eh. I dont think its important to rise to anything but mild annoyance. Its just not an important enough plot point.
I think its a pretty fun fight.
- Aoki & Kimura being badasses in their flashback but yet being mudslingers who struggle to finish out fights?
I like that everyone in that gym isnt the best of their class. Its also kind of why I wanted to have Kimimura retire. I like them as a representation that not everyone can make.
- The referee that fucked on Volg in the Sendo fight?
I liked that. I usually enjoy seeing some of the shittier reality of the job and Vorg being the better fighter but being fucked due to being a foreigner was one of those.
The time where a referee was too bullshity for me was the sawamura vs Mashiba.
- Ippo’s third loss happening to a nobody and right after the Alfredo fight?
I liked it. Your retirement is unlikely to be some grandiose fight.
My personal bad list would be
1- Itagaki God I hate him
2- Not doing the Ippo/Miyata instead of inventing Randy jr. I think it could have been a great jumping of point for both character to go for their gold in seperate classes (because Miyata isnt Ippo's).
3-Not moving Miyata to a higher class post Randy. He is just kinda around not doing shit and its weird because the reason they gave for why the fight couldnt happen after was that Miyata wasnt build for this class so he was burning his last big fight in this class on Randy.
4- Insisting on making Sendo a world class fighter. He is a more limited Ippo. He should have just been Ippo's japenese rival and thats it. And he can still be a recuring character and fun. But insisting that his basic lets brawl it out approach would get him anywhere I find insulting to how difficult they present the world stage in most other moments.
The kimura is a bad decision that I dont mind. because the duo is fun enough that I like having them around.
