TRIPOLI, March 4 (Reuters) - Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim said on Friday the government had accepted a peace initiative put forward by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
His statement followed an apparent rejection of the plan by Saif al Islam, a son of Muammar Gaddafi, who said on Thursday he appreciated the offer but there was no need for help from Venezuela.
Kaim said the Chavez initiative stated a committee would be formed by African, Asian and Latin American countries "to help the international dialogue and to help the restoration of peace and stability".
"We have said that Libya has accepted the initiative of Hugo Chavez of Venezuela," Kaim told reporters.

Brave pilots deny the order to bomb their people and city and defect to Malta. Though somehow the bomber jets turn out to be the french Mirage fighter jets. This document by State Security shows that they actually believed that the Egyptian revolution was started & run by USA, Israel, Iran & Hamas (no joke). Yeah, Gaddafi made sure to weaken the army and only focused on his personal battalions which were, probably, only meant to protect him and his family. He even named some of them after his sons.

She saw them board the boat, and believes they are headed toward Malta. The ship's destination cannot be confirmed.
She also said she was shown an official letter explaining seven of them were providing the security detail for the eighth, a diplomat, who was attempting to get in contact with opposition forces.
Members of the opposition have said the eight were released, as anti-Gaddafi groups were also attempting to make contact with international diplomats.
On the surface, it's seen to be a bit of an embarassing misunderstanding for all sides involved. What more there is to be uncovered remains to be seen.

Well, Gaddafi's people shot twenty or so officers the other day when they refused to fire on unarmed protestors. Killing a bunch of officers like that is a major blow to a conscript army; not only because the conscripts under their command no longer have anybody tell them what to do, but the guy was shot by the people in charge because he did something that the conscripts probably agree with to some extent. So it's not only a breakdown in the command structure in that region, it's also a direct assault on what they have been taught about the Libyan government.
