I love how they added Luffy asking Iva for help. That scene in the manga would avoid a whole lot of terrible theories.
And when you think about it, it was perfectly reasonable for Luffy to bring it up.

As I've always said, The anime in general might not deliver on a constant bases, but it damn well does a good job when it counts.
Ok, normally I am a huge crybaby. And I mean HUGE crybaby!
But I haven't shed one tear. Something went terribly wrong.
This episode was a perfect adaptation, I expected it to get too melodramatic, but it didn't. The only thing I didn't like was Luffy's ugly mug at the very end, but that's the manga's fault.
Anyhow, no more kgkghkhgkhgk. rejoice!

Looking at some of the screencaps of the preview, it's actually pretty funny. Akainu's breakdancing in the middle of battle and is also the Navy's barber.

Did you have it on mute, or were the ads killing the mood?

nah, it was all perfect. I was fully into the epiode and all.. My eyes were only a bit wet when Ace said his last words. And that's all :(
WHAT HAPPENED TO ME??
Really well done if not nearly as tear inducing as the Merry funeral. Perhaps they'll do the Luffy/Ace flashback with the promise that they left out today next week, to start things off on a nice emotional note. The face thing was to be expected–though along those lines I do have to say I'm impressed with the amount of gore they allowed from Ace--the scene where the fist is pulled out, with included sound effects, was just... And the puking blood and the splat at the end when he fell. Wow. After all the times they seemed to balk at showing blood on Luffy in fights, I thought that was all pretty impressive. Perhaps it was to empahsize the finality of it all? Anyway, good episode.
I love how Akainu is included during the scene where Ace thanks everyone.
"Thank you…Luffy, pops, Marco, guy who killed me...THANK YOU...FOR LOVING ME!!!"
So, they're just burning off whitebeards stache?
That's it?
I'm sadder about that than Ace kicking the bucket.
What the hell Toei.

You've become….a monster! dramatic music
Come on, anime onlys. Don't hold back. Show us all your anger, all your fury, all your rage. Let it all out.
FEED US WITH YOUR HATRED!
As someone who hasn't read the manga, but am a person in the world with an internet connection, I can't say that my reaction was outlandish. I mean, between having this whole thing spoiled long ago when it happened in the manga (via the interbuttz) and having the episode titles spell it out for you, it dampens the shock factor significantly.
I will say that they managed to make it hurt quite well regardless, what with the flashback segments to Ace's troubled childhood and the desperation/vulnerability displayed by Luffy during this whole ordeal. It's like seeing your unflappable parent/loved one completely lose it and show that they too are human.
Akainu loved Ace the most.
''Nothing can stop a fist of love!''
FIST OF LOVE !!!

This episode was amazing. Simply Amazing. ALmost makes me forgive the buggy filler from last episode, especially since without it the pacing in this episode might not have been as good. That said, they still should've made it more battle filler rather than Buggy filler, but regardless, this episode was amazing
I was really expecting "Mother Sea" to play to Ace's death or his flashbacks. I think they pulled it off better with the Merry's funeral.
Here's a Megaupload link for the chapter. Horrible Subs version.

That's my feelings as well, I guess everything about Whitebeard has to be censored. The manga will adopt this if Whitebeard's corpse is ever dug up (Moriah?) I want to go manga only at this point.
Two weeks from now….
! The man who died standing, Buggy the Clown
I got a little choked up, for sure. I just didn't flip out and start flinging over tables and incoherently screaming or anything.
It was a weirdly beautiful and melancholy send off to the character. It hurts his loved ones, but he died with love in his heart and no regrets. We should all be so lucky to go knowing the devotion of our loved ones and a sense of internal peace.
I'll die with a smile, that's for sure. :)

In this battle he recieved zero slashes, zero bullet wounds, zero burns, ten hours of screentime, and as his jacket fell to ground, as a testament to his flashiness, there were no wounds on his back, BECAUSE HE COULDN'T BE HURT BY THE ENEMY.
What is love?
Baby, don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more.
Toei came through when it counted. Excellent episode, 10/10.
Goodbye, Ace.

"ONE PIECE…I don't know if it exists!"
"ZEHAHAHA, I KNEW - Wait what."
Man, it made me cry like in the manga.
And I would like to thank you Toei for not putting any buggy fillers.

Ace-kun's song. Explains his character, the melody and rhythm. Starts so strong (reckless) and then goes silent (as he is captured) then goes again strong (as he is free) and then it suddenly ends. And yeah the song is short… jus liek his life :|

Someone needs to edit the episode to include that dialogue.
After nearly a year we finally see it. I thought that parts of it were well done but I thought that the music could have been done better. The flashbacks were good though
I wonder if Toei caught the memo that Lufy's supposed to be in a coma and not crying.

oh my god, effing saved. T_T comedy tears of joy.
Did you guys notice that Luffy's last expression which is sopposed to be some wide open depressed sad face in the manga, looks like he's laughing instead of crying o.O
;A;
That's all that needs to be said. I read this a year ago, but seeing and hearing it in motion is another experience altogether. Really well done episode.
I also like how they brought back the "golden tears" from when Merry died.
And there we go:
Top 10 Saddest OP Moments + 483 Review
Also: Luffy crying made that face fit better imo.
Just sitting there woulda hurt the moment I think, considering how it hurt the manga.

I'd forgotten about that gif!
Marco's cry was the scream of an anguished lover. (Why anime… why...)
Right now, an anime watcher is in excruciating pain over Ace's death….but remember...

lol at the Whitebeard wannabe in the flashback.

You should've flied to Tokyo and watched kids cry over Ace.
A tad weird in some of the choices this week (Luffy's moving face with the passage) but Toei for the most part did their job. Though I think they probably made the preview short so they won't fully spoil next week:
! "Oops, they see me!"
We need a OVA or smth like that to show us what would have happened if Sengoku didn't hold Garp down >:) .
