Kutaragi's two jobs comment was the best thing.
The Nintendo Thread

lol, actually very true. although, I think the gamecube had a fine launch, with luigi's mansion, pikmin, and them melee like a month later. but then again, I'm pretty much that "die-hard nintendo fan" pictured above, so… :P
except fuck mario party 6. when no good games are coming out, it sucks. thank goodness the wii is in its second wind right now.
-
Still not as bad as wii party, which is like mario party but with whatever fun was left sucked out and replaced with excrement.
-
Isn't that pretty much the cycle of ALL game consoles though?
-
Pretty much. It's just that since the 64 onwards it's been more noticable with nintendo due to a lack of third party support.
-
Kind of reads like it was written by someone who was given wedgies by Nintendo fanboys for a few years and is desperate to get back at them. All the steps are true, though.
-
Jeff Gerstmann post-Twilight Princess review.
-
I love Jefffffffffff
-
To be fair, what the hell kind of a score is 8.9?
One of the reasons I hated Gamespot (I still don't like 'em even though the system has changed though).
-
Poor Jeff.
Gave Twilight Princess an honest review and got flayed alive by idiots who hadn't even played the game they were defending.
Gave Kane & Lynch an honest review and got fired since his bosses had an advertising contract which included a disgusting kane & lynch skin on the site.
-
It's one of the reasons I really like what he does now at Giant Bomb. Rather than sort of hiding everything behind this big professional curtain and pretending to speak for an entire company, they're way out in the open with all the videos and podcasts and such, to the point that you know each of the main guys as people and gamers–you recognize what they represent and their individual interests, and its easier to both translate their opinions to what you know about your own interests, and see those opinions as what they are rather than as editorial statements.
-
For the record, I'm just saying that the .1-.9 system is retarded
Gave Kane & Lynch an honest review and got fired since his bosses had an advertising contract which included a disgusting kane & lynch skin on the site.
Second reason I don't like Gamespot. Even after, EIDOS still tried to pull some pressuring review shenanigans with Batman: Arkam Asylum (Although AA is actually good).
-
It was born in a time where most everyone used a 1-100 scale, and they just aped that.
I used to read a magazine called CVG which was good for 2 years when a specific editor took charge and changed theirs to a five point scale, arguing how the hell would you differentiate between a game that got 86 and a game that got 88, and that their opinion should be rooted in the text of the review, stopping people from simply glancing at the score. Then he moved on and they switched back to the 100 point scale.
-
Is that supposed to be some sort of NO U petty revenge against the Sonic Cycle meme or something
-

I adore Giant Bomb. I was actually following that countdown to when the site would launch as I was a fan of Jeff and his posse in their Gamespot years (GS actually had a lot of guys like this, such as Greg, who were these really vibrant showman to represent the site). I just love, like you said, the idea that the entire site is represented by individual personalities that come together up front. It's not a site so much as it is them.
They're relatable and respectable dudes who are all obviously just enjoying what they do, as something they really love.

Nintendo hasn't made a truly great home console since SNES.
Part of me thinks they should go developer. But yes, Sony fans now belong to this exact cycle neener neener.
-
I am insulted by the way the put Rhythm Heaven in there. Awesome stuff there, and it's been more than a year since it came out and the DS isn't even close to dying out yet, since the 3DS's price point will probably do something simillar to the PS2 and PS3.
Also, Captain Rainbow is never going to come to America.
EVER.
I also notice I need to change my Avatar and Signature. Pretty badly.
-
Honestly I thought Gamecube was a fantastic system
But yeah their horrible relationship with third parties is what brings them down
-
Nintendo: giving you horrendously expensive and completely unnecessary add-ons to your home console since 1985.
-
Screw you, the Zapper and NES Advantage kicked ass.
-
I do understand that peripherals will be revised. Just particular revisions feel like a kick in the teeth. Like the motion plus crap or the brand new 360 controller, fully priced, with a new adjustable d pad…. that everyone had already complained about for years.
Seriously?
Are revisions to hardware that fix problems really worth complaining about? -
They are when a company requires you to pay money for their own failures.
-
Yeah thats about right, although I can't help but think that this was made by some Sega fanboy that's still butt hurt over the "Sonic Cycle".
-
Screw you, the Zapper and NES Advantage kicked ass.
Eh, I'm partly joking. Trust me, I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy. But you gotta admit some of those add-ons were pretty ridiculous (Power Glove anyone?)
The thing that bugs me most about the current generation, however, is that even getting basic controllers for the Wii is difficult. Last I checked, the Wiimotes were still about $30-$40, and then you may have to buy nunchuks on top of those depending on the game.
The Wii is not multiplayer friendly. At all.

To be fair though, its not like Sony and Microsoft are any better, considering that they're controllers run for about $50-60 a pop (MS is particularly bad since the controllers with the "new and improved" D-pad are ONLY wireless and ONLY in a $65 Play-n-Charge kit).
At least with the Wii all you have to do is buy a few extra remotes and you can at least play Wii Sports or NSMBWii without the extra attachment.
Oh, and as far as stupid add ons go:

Fair enough, but I wouldn't expect them to hand them out for free anyway.
What I'm saying is, the hardware revisions are a good thing in the end.

Really? Well, I haven't had much, if any, experience buying PS controllers (and I've never owned an Xbox) but, eh, whatever. I rarely play multiplayer anyway.

I can top that.

Multiplayer's fun, be it splitscreen or online.
It's even more fun when it's splitscreen AND online with other friends. (irl friends, anywa)
-
Screw you, the Zapper and NES Advantage kicked ass.
I love the power glove.
It's so bad.
-
ya. i haven't even gotten …oh what was it called...the motion plus? for my wii controller, let alone an extra one. oh well. i'm too busy for videogames right now anyways.
and the nintendo zapper would have been cooler if it actually had games for it. duck hunt doesn't count. I've only played one other game with it ever.

-
i've only heard of 3 of those. still not a lot. :\
-
That's more than the Power Glove, at least.
Also, I want the revolver version.
-
you can't just play the power glove with any game? well that blows chunks!
-
Anyone ever played Battle Clash on the SNES with the Super Scope? It's surprisingly awesome.
-

Well, at least you can land the plane in Top Gun with the power glove.
-
didn't the AVGN figure out the trick for that though?
-
didn't the AVGN figure out the trick for that though?
Well, yeah, he did, but…......THE POWER GLOVE!!
-
It almost worked for Punch-out.
Almost being the key word of course.
-
that should be THE game for the power glove though….
-
Does anyone know if it will be region free or not?
That will help me decide if I have to import it or not.

Not region free.
-
Then I guess I'll be importing it.
-
Not region free?! Why the hell not? As far as I know all past Gameboy/DS's were region free. Is this confirmed, or is Supa just pulling shit out of his ass?
-

Let me rephrase it. The 3ds Downloadable games will be region locked but not the actual games them-self. Sorry I read some bullshit elsewhere which said it would be region locked but wasn't specific.
-
Oh, good. Cause there's some Japan only DS games I'm gonna wanna grab somewhere down the line.
-
so the downloadable stuff will be region locked…
so that means I can't download UK games onto an imported Japanese 3DS? Oh well. Looks like I won't import then XD
-
Actually, maybe Supa misheard from some source that took something out of context. The 3DS market is more than likely gonna be like other online services like PSN. In which case you CAN download from another countries marketplace… you just have to set up an account with that country/region tied to it. Then you can download all the free stuff from that region as you wish... but in order to actually "buy" something from the regions marketplace you'll need bank info for that country. North American/UK bank info doesn't work in Japan.
But that's why there's point cards. Buy point cards from other regions over eBay or some other site, and you can use it to buy items from there... But, least in regards to PSN, they're not cheap.

I misheard the first time too. I don't usually try to give out shitty info like that until I realized "The DS, DSi, DSiXL wasn't region locked. What the hell?". They might have it like PSN, because I remember having a European account to download a demo only out in Europe for PSN.
-
Well, in that case, I'll just get the US one.
I really just want to buy Japanese 3DS games….but I really don't want to pay current import prices AT ALL for anything.
