I know this might sound foolish and ungrounded, but I believe that the captain of the New Fishman Pirates is, in fact, a fishman.
Chapter 608: "Paradise Under the Sea" Discussion
-
-
It is named Noah, or the place I believe, so it is probably an arc. Like Noah's Arc, almost looks like Eneru's.
Thanks for clearing that up!
I loved the chapter. So far, this arc has the potential to become one of the best arcs ever in my opinion. We had Luffy haki-ing fodder, Zoro cutting a galleon, Sanji nearly nosebleeding to death, the monster trio pwning Pacifistas, a beautifully drawn underwater world, lots of scary and gigantic monsters (a fucking Kraken!), the legendary Flying Dutchman, underwater volcanoes and now the gorgeous mermaids we have always been waiting for! I get the same feeling I got when I first watched the Skypia arc, this appetite for an epic adventure!

Hey, wait, let's not jump to conclusions like that…
-
but I believe that the captain of the New Fishman Pirates is, in fact, a fishman.
This is a terrible theory and you should feel bad for making it.

I don't see why this would be the best arc ever when it's been adventurous since they got into the ocean which isn't a bad thing but there's nothing story worthy to write home about. Except for last weeks chapter and this weeks chapter. Now the group will probably be wanted criminals for breaking and entering just like with Sky Piea.
-
Then Jinbei didn't cut his hair in all 2 years even if it cost his life.
I know y'all are joking , but because there will be somoene to take you seriously , the nose is completely different :P
-
what if…one of noah's minions (whom we haven't seen cause you know there's always someone else apart of the group that's not being shown) is named Earl?
-
what if…one of noah's minions (whom we haven't seen cause you know there's always someone else apart of the group that's not being shown) is named Earl?
i bet they have 2 of everything.
-
Damn, Fishman Island is gonna be insane! Hell, the insanity began a few chapters ago with the Kraken and the Flying Dutchman, but now that the Straw Hats have actually arrived (finally), shit is about to get real!!
I think it's cool that we've already learned so much about the place and that there's still much more that's gonna happen! The little quintuplets were adorable and funny, I almost thought they were Keimi's children until I continued reading. Apparently, they're just friends of hers and she's not a "Mer-MILF." ducks incoming gunfire
BTW, when I looked closely at the bubble on the Sea Turtle Elevator, I noticed the kanji for "kame" (turtle) was drawn in a similarly-stylized manner as some Dragon Ball Z merchanise I've seen where the "kame" character resembles a "Z." Check it out for yourselves here…...
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/32383345/14
I'm still trying to find an image of a DBZ t-shirt which features the "Z-kame" character.
As usual, Sanji continues to be pure, comedic gold. I especially LOL'ed when Luffy pointed out his crying being more excessive than when he left Baratie. He's so overwhelmed that he claims to have found the All Blue! Seriously, you could shoot him right now and he'd die without a single regret! Without a doubt, Sanji is officially the post-timeskip comic relief for the crew!
Well, I'll just wrap up my thougts by mentioning three things…...
-
Caribou is gonna get loose and ruin shit for everybody (starting with the mermaids, no less!)
-
Who the frig is the leader of the New Fishman Pirates?! His shadowy face resembles Arlong's, but with Shiliew's nose (I hope he's a great white shark fishman).
-
I really don't have to say how hot that mermaid splashpage was......
-
-
what if…one of noah's minions (whom we haven't seen cause you know there's always someone else apart of the group that's not being shown) is named Earl?
I thought Noah was a place ?
-
Unless the Person shares the same name, which is unlikely, it is.
-
@No:
I thought Noah was a place ?
Noah's the ark Hammond and pals apparently returned to their boss in.
-
Your argument is only valid if Oda claims that the fishmen can cross breed with other fish types.
If fishmen can breed with giants, I don't see any problems with cross breeding between fishmen.
2. I will agree with some who have said it. That SHs being separated is a bit annoying especially since they were just separated for two years than they follow a spell of another short separation as Luffy Zoro and Sanji got "lost" and you know they will have to find each other again
You mean like nearly every island they ever visited?
Loguetown, Little Garden, Drum, Skypiea, Water 7, Thriller Bark, and Sabaody Archipelago?
In all of those, they split up into groups as soon as they arrived.3. That last line: Bring him here. Idk what it is but it bothers me.Perhaps it is the fact that Luffy ain't some random punk anymore, not to mention he has his own crew to back him up, so to just casually say bring him (I will sit here and wait as you do) kind of implies that he is confident his subordinates are more than enough to handle this guy and followed with the thought that I assume it will indeed happen (Luffy will be brought to him) which further on complicates things, where perhaps I expected things won't be so complicated.
I mean sure I expected troubles to present themselves but have also expected or hoped Luffy will, at least untill the NW, be able to brush it off and in that sense display that he is now indeed top tier Material. You mean arrogant and over-confident like nearly every arc villain ever?
Don't mean to sound like a sarcastic asshole, but it sounds like the complaints you have about the chapter is exactly what you should have expected of One Piece after 600 chapters of repeating the same pattern.
Perhaps your point should have been phrased to mean, you want more variety in story progress rather than tradition? -

That's why I said "in my opinion". I enjoy the adventurous AND dramatic arcs the most - e.g. Skypia and Sabaody Archipelago. And I'm sure Oda develops a great dramatic story revolving around Fishman Island, too.
-
@No:
I thought Noah was a place ?
It is? cause the way hammond makes it sound like it's the name of their leader
-

I respect that, I just wanted to add my two little cents to it, it wasn't until after sky piea was over that I felt it as a great arc, i'll admit that the begining of sky piea bored me a little but it was necessary to build that world up. I wish more manga's would take the time to build a new place up instead of quick explanation than bam fights galore.
-
Looks like Oda is splitting the Straw Hats up more often to ensure they all get a sufficient amount of build up/ screen time… which I guess is logical. It's so much harder for everyone to get the spotlight when they're crammed together.
Sanji = HILARIOUS
Good chapter overall... the usual way an arc starts.
-
Who the hell is Shiliew? Isnt his name Shiryuu?
-
Such a great chapter! I'm already in love with the fishman island! It looks so gorgeous! <3
And Camie is adorable, her redesign looks fantastic. -
I'm kinda disappointed that Arlong is apparently the new boss. It'll be interesting to see how strong he's gotten, but I would've preferred him being second.
Of course we can't be 100% certain that its Arlong, just that it looks alot like him.
Whatever the case is, I think the most impressive thing we've seen in the last few chapters is that apparently fishmen/(mermaids?) can talk underwater and be understood by people even when the sound waves move to air, then understand when people breathing air speak. That's actually more complicated than casual ass kicking.

It's not Arlong…
This guy has fuller lips and a wider jaw. And the nose is different.
Plus... why the hell would it be Arlong? Luffy has already dramatically faught and beat him... how gay would Fishmen Island be if he did all that again.
-
Love the chapter, all the fantasy world Oda is displaying, the Sanji jokes… But I must admit that the manga improved a lot after Thriller Bark arc, which was the last "Straw hats VS Big Bad Boss and his goons".
I know this is a tradition both in OP and mostly all shonens, but I'm sure almost everyone here prefers the Shabbody- Impel Down- WAR arc over that old cliche.
I'm not saying the new arc is going to be like that, so far it has a lot of potential. I only wish it won't fall in the old ways.
-

The crew hasn't changed that much in 2 years, but we haven't seen any fishmen since so its possible they mature differently.
Your comment is exactly why I hope it isn't Arlong, but I think its possible until we know for sure.
Of course then we get to speculate about who it is, there will be endless pages of it I'm sure.
-
there are also mermen in this manga right? would be pretty funny if they are the total opposite of the mermaids.
Semil, Arlong is a sawfish fishman. If he lost his trademark nose, there would be know point in calling him his species.
-
@Cyan:
Unless Fishman Island offers rhinoplasty, it's not.
Yes, I was foolish to assume that it was Arlong. (that's what I get for missing the spoiler thread)
Nevertheless, I wonder exactly who that Fishman could be.
-
Awww…so they aren't Caimie's and Hachi's kids? Damn xD
Great chapter, Sanji had amazing faces throughout the entire thing. I also really just loved seeing how different parts of Fishman Island worked. I can't wait to get to the Fishman District.
-
Who the hell is Shiliew? Isnt his name Shiryuu?
Shiliew = Correct English romanization of Shiryuu.
-
Now, why is there an ark and what will the fishmen pirates do with it?
Or it's their ship? Or just a sanctuary that they use as their base?
I hope we'll know soon. -
I'm expecting Nami to have a big part in this arc/saga. Based on her reactions whenever she's reminded of her time with Arlong (she looked rather pale when Kokoro told them that FI was an inevitable destination, pausing when she recognized Hacchan's voice, and recently seeing the Arlong tat again), I expect to see the reopening of some nasty old wounds.

Same goes for arrogant and overconfident part. It is however true that now, most of the villains should learn about SH and know they are a power to be reckoned with (which differs from previous situations where they were either unknown or villains "knew their strength" but figured theirs was bigger (aka Bellamy if he knew Luffy had 100.000.000 I dont think he would have been so cocky))
But more importantly it is that this time it doesn't feel as if he would be overconfident. He knows Luffys is really strong.
I guess I just wasnt expecting that. I mean I get that the Fishmen are powerful, however I figured not all that, if they had to be protected by WB.It is? cause the way hammond makes it sound like it's the name of their leader

The entire district is being referred to as "NOAH"
-
Actually, does it bother anyone else how FI is so accommodating to air-breathers? Even down to the fact that when Keimi opens her front door, a huge dome-like bubble comes out which perfectly lets the Straw Hats get onto the conveniently air-bubbled turtle. It's like an underwater theme park designed for land lubbers rather than a legitimate city that has developed due to aquatic lifeforms.
Your post is indeed one of the more interesting ones. Truly.
I dont really know if merfolk do indeed breath under water they could indeed have to breath air with lungs just like seals, because there have been no evidence of gills. But I do think they do indeed breath under water but that is not my point and that is truly not why your post is interesting.
What if fishman islands was indeed built for the air breathers. Why would the fishmen or merman(if they breath under water) build an island inside resin rather than on the bottom when they can easily build it there.
Believe it. Fishman island - ancient kingdom will be connected, wait for it. -
It was Whitebeard's territory and he protected it for years. So, it's only natural that it's partly accommodated to humans etc.
-

Like the one on her arm she got from kniving herself lol.
Yeah I think that'll be the case with Nami. But I think Fishmen Island is more likely to give Sanji a harder time, and I can see new wounds emerging unless he resists his urge to explode.
-
It is? cause the way hammond makes it sound like it's the name of their leader
"Let's go back to noah and let noah know" yeah that makes sense
-
Fishman Island is as spectacular as i imagined it to be. Extremeley glad they're finally roaming the place and they're….there! Been waiting for this moment for years now and it's finally time.
-
It was Whitebeard's territory and he protected it for years. So, it's only natural that it's partly accommodated to humans etc.
Whitebeard protected FI, I don't think he had a standing army stationed in their houses. Rather than some accommodation for passing pirates, I think its more likely they have air for themselves. Maybe its easier to do certain tasks in air compared to water.
-
Who the hell is Shiliew? Isnt his name Shiryuu?
no his name is batmAN. YOU SHOULD LOOK TO MOST RECENT DATABOOK FOR INFO.
-

He protected it so the violence against the Merfolk would stop not so that humans could live on it?
Idk to me it looks like Mermaids, need air to breeth since they don't have gills it would also explain why the little mermaids needed air bubbles around their waist (like the thing babies need so they don't drown/for their safety) It could be for fun naturally but it may not be as well
As far as "strange" goes I am more interested in how the mangroves can extend for 10.000 meters deep (considering the things surrounding FI are mangroves
-
What is that like Arlong's dad or something? I don't think it could be him.
This was a great chapter.
-
Wow, Fisherman Island looks awesome and the mermaids are hot as hell! I can't really blame Sanji for crying since I might have as well if I was there too. lol
-
no his name is batmAN. YOU SHOULD LOOK TO MOST RECENT DATABOOK FOR INFO.
You should look at the keyboard while typing.
On topic. If its a Mermaid Cafe, who do they serve there? We haven't seen any men, so all the mermaids just lounge around looking beautiful waiting for a human to show up?
-

No, but he had to have access to it and be able to operate on it. Plus, I think all those pirates passing by really help the economy so you could say it's for tourism's sake. But then again it could just be for the merfolk like you said.
He protected it so the violence against the Merfolk would stop not so that humans could live on it?
Was that a question? I didn't say anything about living on it but a few changes so that humans don't have to worry about dying all the time are certainly a plus.
However, I think that it's for the mermaids too.
-
@$abZ:
Like the one on her arm she got from kniving herself lol.
Heh, I saw that joke coming a mile away. Then again, I thought about making that joke, myself.
As for roronoa3000's question about the "Shiliew" thing, Oda himself Romanized it as such.
-
Yea something weird happened. Nothing is making sense so far. Why is there sky and sunlight(even outside the bubble). (yea I mentioned this earlier). I could see the water pressure not being bad because it was between the two bubbles. Hopefully Oda explains after yet another break… <sigh>why does he have to take a break every 2 weeks :.</sigh>
Have you ever made a terrarium?
You take some dirt and some plants and put them in there with a bit of water, put a lid on it, and condensation/evaporation pretty much take care of it. it creates its own little mini atmosphere.
Wow, Fisherman Island looks awesome and the mermaids are hot as hell!
Fisherman Island is later. We're on Fishman Island right now.
-
As I said, he looks way more like shiliew than Arlong. If Oda did something as lame as making this dude his dad or bro, I would probably quit. He is probably just the guy who tried to take over after jinbe left, therefore the third strongest.
-
3. That last line: Bring him here. Well he only says : "bring him here", so even if the logical conclusion is to think that he talks about Luffy, we can't be 100 % sure.
Maybe one of the straw hat has been saved by them and made prisonner, or maybe he was talking about, hachi, arlong, or I someone else. -
No, but he had to have access to it and be able to operate on it. Plus, I think all those pirates passing by really help the economy so you could say it's for tourism's sake. But then again it could just be for the merfolk like you said.
Passing pirates might explain the transportation and some public areas, but having air in your own apartment isn't for tourism.
-
Passing pirates might explain the transportation and some public areas, but having air in your own apartment isn't for tourism.
Yeah, I wasn't talking about that in particular. That's most likely because mermaids don't seem to have gills. They're probably like whales or something.
-
For all the people still speculating that the Fishman Boss could be Arlong:
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/32383345/9
Hammond clearly mentions "the Boss" and "Arlong-San" in the same sentence, referring to them as two different people.
-
As I said, he looks way more like shiliew than Arlong.
It's the nose, man!
I wouldn't rule out the idea of this guy being a relative of Arlong's, but I also keep in mind that Oda makes it a habit to try and avoid cliches and doing the unexpected. After, over a decade, he has proven over and over that he's got a knack for that.
In other words, this guy being related to Arlong is POSSIBLE, but NOT LIKELY (if Oda has anything to say about it).
