@Thousand:
People need to realize Assange isn't Wikileaks. He's just a figurehead for people to shoot at while the rest of his boys do their job. He knew what he was in for though yet he was still the one to volunteer for the position. Respect to the man.
Oh wow, hahahaha. This is so stupid, hilarious and bamboozling at the same time. I don't even know what's going on anymore. Did governments try to get him in for rape without realizing the details of what they were trying to smear him with? Was it JUST a misunderstanding of Sweden's bizarre laws on the part of Assange? Is it somehow orchestrated or what? Is this really what they're trying to take him down with?
This includes an in-depth breakdown of the events. Highly recommended reading: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1336291/Wikileaks-Julian-Assanges-2-night-stands-spark-worldwide-hunt.html
HIGH. LEE. SUS. PECT. By any measure.
And the framing of it is absolutely deliberate. Its continued reporting as a "rape" or "sexual assault," could not be more intentional. It's an obvious smear by the use of the word itself and one the media has no reason to let go of: http://www.crikey.com.au/2010/12/02/when-it-comes-to-assange-r-pe-case-the-swedes-are-making-it-up-as-they-go-along/
I may have to amend my "Sex by Surprise" argument, though. On further research, I'm reading in places that it's actually not a legal term but a "lighthearted" phrase used for "Rape," instead of the serious one that implies a prosecutor has enough evidence to win. http://feminismandtea.blogspot.com/2010/12/sex-by-surprise.html In other words: it's not Rape but "Rape." Ambiguous sex? Difficult to prove rape? Consensual but the condom broke and they continued anyway sex? It may be that Assange's lawyer misunderstood the charges, based the fact that he didn't understand the connotations. I would, however, read that last link with a grain of salt, as it is my only corroborating source, and - disappointingly - fails to answers the question of what "överraskningssex" really means. And, it's, well, a feminist blog. Can anyone else find anything?
Here we find -specifically- the charges that Assange was brought in for from the Swedish Police: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5iLBCkkC5l0NVV0gEYkAA04x83Wrg?docId=B32488671291733403A00
Seems a little more airtight. No less subversive, or convenient, but actual charges. Like what Holy Hell says: no matter what happens, it still remains an utterly transparent attempt to bring down Assange. I'd like to find more sources that confirm the sex was consensual (though I've read it in plenty, many of them were taken from that Aol.news article), but I mean, even if this wasn't a honeypot… it's clearly, clearly muddled.
