1. arlong is a big boss. he would haev been in level 5 minimum, and even possibly level 6, lets assume he was in lvl 6

2. we know that all level 6 prisoners were released. they fought each other and only thhe strongest would leave. we also know that blackbeard didn't take all of them, only a select few. arlong could have broken out. he can also swim.

3. there has been a 2 year leap. anything could have happened in those two years. however, i think we can all agree that arlong is not someone who would go into retirement, or would not open up a swordfish delicacy store. he most certainly have been doing something, either taking over territories, or trying to exact revenge on Luffy.

Of course it's not entirely based on bounties, otherwise dangerous people with no bounty like Blackbeard would go probably to level 1. But in the manga it was clearly stated how big bounties prisoners in each level had, so I highly doubt that Arlong would go to level 5. Like I said, it's for people like Supernovas.

Prisoners can be sent to Marineford as well, Nami said this in chapter 364. And probably every Blue has their own prisons, so he can be in one of those as well. I doubt that Marines transport every prisoner around the world to Impel Down.

As strong as Arlong was, a muzzle and some proper shackles designed for fishmen could hold him. Heck, JIMBEI was in chains. Keep him away from water and his threat level diminishes hugely.

In fact. Taking a fishman to impel down, the water prison, would be about the STUPIDEST place you could hold them. A prison in a desert island would serve far better to contain him.

It being the anime franchise renaming may be true (as well as the new syndication of the manga apparently, due to them all saying DBZ on the covers past volume 16) but you never differenciated between the two. It should be expected that most people don't see the entire thing as just one series today. It's too much to expect for them to simply not see it that way. There's no reason for "Oh Jesus".

Jimbei was there more or less voluntarily and had Shichibukai status, and they wanted him close at hand if he changed his mind about fighting Whitebeard.

When the hell were Lunch or Yajirobe EVER a villain? And all the others aside from Piccolo were antogonistic for exactly… one skirmish. Maybe a chapter each. A couple panels of fighting. Tienshinhan was the closest to a long time rival, and even he wasn't exactly evil, that was pretty clear pretty fast.

well the link said "they're STILL prisoners of the marines".

arlong had nothing to negotiate with mouse. he lost all his treasure, and has just lost any credibility that no one would possibly defeat him. mouse would have gained more by turning him in, therefore increasing his chance of being promoted, than letting arlong escape after he was badly injured, which would possibly demote him.

also never at all assumed impel down was the only prison. impel down however was the prison MADE specifically for pirates. think of it as our municipal and federal prison systems and stuff. people might reside at a smaller prison for a while while things are being sorted, but they always get moved to a higher security prison (if the had commited big crimes. taking over cities and towns = big crime)

Of these, the only ones that were villians were Picolo and Tien.

Tien was obviously a "Noble Enemy" since his battle with Jackie Chun.

Yamcha and Oolong were opportunist that were defeated unceremoniously, and feel in line because they had the chance to ally with Goku, more comparable to Jhony and Yusaku.

Lunch is agressive with everyone, Blondie was forever agresive to the warriors till she vanished into darkness.

Yajirobe wasn't even defeated by Goku, as this "battle" was when Goku was the weakest ever. Hungry, Angry, Hungry, Tailess, Dissoriented and Hungry.

So, Only Picolo.

I think I would be more comfortable answering that question with a 'no' (not to say he wouldn't play any role at all, but simply that I wouldn't think he'd show up in person, in present), but I could definitely see both sides being argued. However, one thing I am willing to say, is that if he was, in fact, imprisoned at Impel Down – which as others have pointed out, is in no way a given, for various reasons -- then I am almost completely confident that we won't be seeing him at FI, or indeed at any point.

Why do I say that? It's simply a matter of foreshadowing. It should be one of the most well known facts to anyone who reads OP that foreshadowing is something Oda is a master of using, and using well. With that said, consider what Arlong showing up after having been imprisoned at Impel Down would have to mean: obviously, as mentioned, he would have had to escape. The only feasible occasion this could have occurred, again as alluded to in earlier posts, was during Luffy's little visit, and all the chaos that caused. That said, if Arlong had been there and been freed, or somehow freed himself, during all that, I absolutely refuse to believe that Oda would not have shown at least some tiny hint regarding that fact. It simply, to my mind, would be absolutely out of character for him not to foreshadow the return of a major character like that, when the opportunity to do so would have easily presented itself.

and u do not consider the arlong tattoo foreshadowing? foreshadowing is showing hints of something happening before it happens. arlong has yet to appear, and the tattoo is shown in specific detail. i would call this huge foreshadowing.

Certainly, it could be foreshadowing, I don't think anyone would deny that. Of course, the tricky thing with talking about foreshadowing is, it can be hard, if not downright impossible, to say what is and is not until after the fact. Obviously, if Arlong does in fact end up showing up, then I and I suspect just about anyone else would fully agree that showing his tattoo was meant to serve as foreshadowing of that fact.

Again, my post was in no way to argue that Arlong won't be showing up in this arc, even if that is what I believe. I was simply arguing that if he does show up, then I firmly believe it will not turn out that he was in ID, precisely because if that were to have been the case, I firmly believe Oda would have foreshadowed it way back at that time, as opposed to presumably a mere handful of chapters before the actual appearance.

Also, you have to bear in mind, while it's certainly possible, as I said, that the tattoo could be meant to serve as foreshadowing, it's just as possible its purpose is more symbolic in nature. Even if Arlong never shows up in person, the things he represents – the trauma, the emotion, the now-revealed history between humans and fish-men, and Nami's and the rest of the crew's issues of what to think of new people who might behave in a similar manner, knowing now a little more about why it might be that they act like that -- will almost certainly play some sort of role in this arc. Just by looking at all that typed out, you can see it's quite a bit; and yet simply by showing that tattoo, and Nami's reaction to it, you could argue that Oda conveyed a bit of all of it.

Bad trans. I think in a more reliable translation he was grateful to Luffy for dealing with Arlong, something he himself should have done as he felt responsible for unleashing him on east blue.

Maybe I am comprehending wrong. Everyone is focusing on this wrong translation which doesn't really have anything to do with what Pacer has asked. It appears to me you all answered a question Pacer didn't ask.

Despite that wrong translation, Jinbei does or did seem to be close with Arlong. They could have had a brotherly relationship like Ace and Luffy, but Jinbei is way older isn't he? I know Arlong is Hatchi's age and Jinbei is way over that right? Maybe Jinbei was more a mentor to Jinbei at some point than a sworn brother.
