I feel Like Hammond doesn't get it and is just a punk who got his modified tattoo and the Arlong mark just to seem "cool".
With so many tamed sea monsters I doubt he's any random punk.

you know what i really REALLy wanna see….usopp somehow implementing the giant green plants's growth with other things...anyone know what i mean?
his smaller regular shots of nothingness would become cannonballs the size of a giant. his firestar an eruption. also like...iuno other skills he has, mb like his oil shots turning into a ocean wave of oil....THAT would be FUCKING.EPIC.
I find his new abilities to be strong enough. To be able to place giant plants of all different varieties (including man-eating and who knows what other kinds) pretty much wherever he he wants them to be is pretty badass all on it's own.
It will fit into his fighting style of trickery and resourcefulness quite well.

well at least the Fishmen pirates as a whole won't be random punks. I dunno about Hammond in particular.

true. i just dont want him continue shooting them, run away, repeat and rinse until it wears the opponent out…. also the fact that Oda showed us him having a box of them only shows us its not going to be used as a constant weapon imo, since he can't exactly GROW them

What box? I didn't see any box? Did I miss something?
Also why can't he grow them? :wassat:
i second the why cant he grow them argument
we know nothing about pop greens really …. untill we do im goin to assume he can grow them just like he can make more fire stars phoenix things somehow from dials
Ahh..decent chapter overall. Glad to see the Strawhats finally arriving at Fishman Island, eh? :P Lol.

Agreed. Especially since the Sunny already has a garden on it for Nami to grow her Orange Trees. Usopp has a finite number of seeds, but as long as he can get back to the ship it seems like he could grow more.
It's been a long time, but we finally got our first look at Fishman Island and I am not disappointed.

it was the first few chapters afte rhte 1 month break. i'm going to bed so i'm too lazy to dig them out. i just assumed he can't grow it because during his time with hercules on the island hercules talkeda bout the plants for a bit and how they are so huge. assuming the plants can be any plant he chooses, that means the rgowth serum or growth w/e can only be grown/fold on that island or even its the island's unique atmosphere that allows that. if so there is only a limited amount he'll be able to have

You seriously think Oda showed Ussop's main powerup just to take it away?..
This was such an awesome chapter. I loved everything about it from Surume to the last few pages with Hammond. Can't wait to see where this will be going.
Though I think the biggest tease was showing part of Usopp's weapon. I really interested to find out more about it. haha
Aw, Luffy looks so happy during this chapter. :)

Mada mada da.
Heracles never went as far as to say that it was because of the island that the plants grew that way. It's possible that there's not even a growth serum: it seems like the plants, either upon being fired or upon contact with air, or something like that, instantly grow, on their own, to ridiculous sizes.
Moreover, there's no reason to assume that the plants cannot produce seeds in their dormant, small forms. Usopp could trivially keep a few on the ship to constantly produce seeds for use as his bullets; you can say that this is only speculation, however, I'm confident that Oda would go with whatever plan he needed to make Usopp able to keep his powerup, therefore, you have no reasonable basis for assuming that his bullets are limited on a long-term basis (however, it's perfectly reasonable to assume that his ammo is more limited per-battle than, for example, his dial power with Kabuto, which I just assumed was infinite because dials were super-magic).
So, the SH crew are enemies to the Fishman pirates for beating Arlong but possibly friend's for saving Hacchi from Celestial Dragons?

According to Hammond, anyway.
Looking at Greg's site which is back online, I noticed the Moray Eel that Oda drew in color walk 1 has the same earring and shady eyes Hammond has. Maybe it's an early design? Or he could've looked through his early designs and applied some of it to Hammond.
so busy. my thoghts on the chapter . way better than last week. we got to FISHERMAN ISLASND. something we been waitng to get to for years. I knew arlong would get broght up. and ussop showing off was great
@Panda:
To butt in on the Arlong conversation, since that seems to be the major conversation point for now:
It seems to me that a large part of the debate here is coming from (or at least originated from) an issue of confusion between justification and explanation for actions. I don't believe anybody is trying to say that there is no explanation for what Arlong did, or that the history between fishmen and humans plays anything less than a significant role in that explanation. Realistically, no action takes place in a vacuum, and Oda is more than good enough as an author to convey that fact within his story as well.
When it comes to justification, however, the issue is on much shakier ground. Of course, saying things like 'this action was justified' is a highly subjective matter. However, since this is a place for opinions, I'll submit mine, and hope that it might find general agreement. Consider this hypothetical: People B are oppressed by People A. To me, People B fighting back in order to gain their freedom from People A is certainly justified. On the other hand, People B managing to gain the upper hand and turn the tables, oppressing People A in turn? This seems considerably less clear, and personally I would say is not justified. Finally, consider a third option, where rather than fighting back against People A at all, People B simply turn around and in turn oppress People C. There is no longer doubt in this case, to me: their actions are completely unjustified.
Now, part of what one's view on Arlong is would depend on which of the hypothetical situations he is more like, the second, or the third. In either case, though, his actions can certainly, at least in part, be explained by his people's history; it is simply claims of justification that are significantly more tenuous.
…That was probably long and ramble-y, but just wanted to add my two cents. It's an interesting topic of conversation, and I think it's great that something like it can come from, as is so often tossed about, "a kid's comic book".
Well argued, and the more long and ramble-y the better. Although I regret that the application of logic to an issue like this makes playing devil's advocate so much more difficult….
This situation seems more complex than previous ones seen in this series though. When the conflict between humans, human collaborators, and the antihuman fishmen supremacists comes to a head, I have a feeling that Luffy will boil it down to "Arlong was an asshole" and leave it at that. I don't think this arc can end in the traditional "beat up the bad guys and the good guys throw a party to make up" ending seen in alabasta and skypeia. The moral picture is more muddled.
@RobbyBevard:
Panda Bear, I like you. You just joined and you're talking non stop sense and understanding of the material.
Welcome to the forum.
Agreed.

When we get a Hammerhead Shark-man he better not be that goofy looking.
Pretty sure that is an early design for Hammond.
Has there been more examples of more than one fishman originating from the same species than octopako and hachan.
Hmmmm.
A lot of argument over Arlong - but one option that isn't being brought up.
Okay bare with me on this I still need to go back and do some fact checking, but based on previous information about their roles and history.
Arlong could be Jinbei's Shichibukai Replacement.
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-069/page008.html
Says that Arlong was as strong as Jinbei - Actual strength shown may not have seemed comparable. Until we consider that Luffy went into that fight with arlong only with the near drowning state affecting him. Subsequent battles have all seen Luffy fighting after being bleeded on fodder - or heavy hitters. The fight with Arlong Luffy was pretty good to go.
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-234/page006.html
Flammingo talks of buisness being good - being a Shichibukai allows for an amount of control over what they consider their territory - Just like what Arlong wanted with Arlong Park.
Next up is pure Fan Fic speculation - Jinbei's actions make trouble for the Fish Islands - Arlong is supposidly in Prison. So he can be asked if he would take Jinbei's place representing the Fishmen, as a Shichibukai.
Arlong had contacts in the Marines enough to keep him under the radar when he was making his cash, performing his attrocities and establishing a comfortable territory to control.
Being Shichibukai also makes you hated among pirates - so while they may have been previous crewmates they may disrespect him for choosing the Humans to make more money and run amok, now with government backing.
Hence upset that they broke up the Arlong pirates - anger there is understandable but if he himself had then betrayed them the actions of saving Hachi and on SA would more then make up for his actions.
Also him being Shichibukai allows for him to be in future battles alongside other powerful fighters rather then on his on in a seperate arc or group of suddenly powerful fighters.
As for the Usopp's plants argument, I second the notion that he didn't spend two years learning it just to lose it. Growing those crazy things on the ship seems reasonable to me, and could provide some great comic relief in the future.

But if you promote it too much, it won't be back online for long.
I'd like to have a say as well on the whole Arlong conversation:
Even though the big sawtooth himself is probably still in prison, that doesn't mean he doesn't have sympathizers who stand for what he did regarding treating humans. As we've seen, not all Fishmen are the same regarding how to tackle their perspective on humanity. You have some like Jinbei who works with humans but more as a diplomat trying to work with those who better their position, like his arrangement with Whitebeard and being a Shichibukai. Likewise, you have those like Arlong who have probably seen all of the chaos humans have inflicted on them and thinks the only way to make things better is by all out domination and subjugation, even if it includes profiting off them and killing those who try to stand up to their rule. And then you have those like Hachi, who started off an Arlong sympathizer and on his side (probably due to being his friend in the past), but has a long history of humans treating him sympathetically (Rayleigh) and even running a takoyaki stand that helps anyone regardless of species. Ultimately, Fishmen are just like humans in that each one has a different perspective yet follow in the one that they see fit that is closest to their own.
The "New Fishmen Pirates" seem to respect Luffy for doing things that Fishmen would applaud, like beating up on a Tenryuubito. But at the same time, that sort of goes along their own philosophies that seem similar to Arlong than to Jinbei: it's not about sticking it to "the man" just because he's a pompous jerk who enslaves your kind, but more probably about "sticking it to a human who has treated you bad…thus giving you a right to hate humans and want to subjugate or merely just hate them or be unsympathetic about them like Arlong was". At this point, Arlong is probably more a symbol of another path certain Fishmen would like to take in their relationship to the surface, even if he himself may never return to the story outside as a symbol or just part of what happens.
well Usopp might have a limited amount he can use in battle but after battle he can just get them off the plants he grows on the ship to resupply himself
maybe what caribou is in might smash on fishman island and he will get away to try and attack the strawhats again and luffy will own him with haki or maybe usopp with his plants because he is mud
The scene of The Sunny facing all those sea monsters reminds me of When Roger was facing Gold Lions armada.
I wonder if we'll see a pineapple down here?
Well, I havent read the whole thread yet.
But ill just throw this out there.
Luffy will be the main villain. Them fishies will hate him after a couple 2 many food references and his past being brought up! ;D
I'm just bored @ work..

I am certain that the plants will be addressed eventually. Several people will be wanting to know I bet.
Well, this was certainly an interesting chapter. I was especially fond of the different tattoos on Hammond's body. The decapitated human is most likely the sign of another group, which leads me to believe that there'll be several (political) forces, who battle over the reign on FI. This could make for an interesting plot hook if we consider that there still seems to be royalty and that we have two bubbles on the spread of FI - maybe a hint to an "Upper yard" situation we had in Skypeia?
Anyway, here an updated chart on all the important matters (Warning: huge file):

This looks great. It's got a better style than what I see over at the One Piece Wiki at least. For some reason, some idiot changed all spelling of Gecko Moria to Gekko Moriah. I don't get it.

Gekko Moriah is the right spelling.
@S.C.:

Really now? That sounds unimaginably retarded for some reason. Every American puiblished Manga I have and Funimation sub I've seen is wrong then? Sure hope the translator was trustworthy or else this would be some seriously screwed up crap.
It was romanized in the databook.

The translator is either Oda or some super intern/assistant.

This is what I thought too. And after seeing Brogy and Dorry written as Burogy and Dorey in a databook, I won't use Moriah or Jinbe before Oda himself writes them like that in the manga.
It was romanized in the databook.
Fuck that. It's in my American release so as far as I'm concerned, it's perfectly okay to use, correct spelling or not.
I'm sorry but if it's going to take this long to romanize something than expect people not to be behind it 100% when they've already gotten used to something else.
It's not like anyone is telling you to use Gekko Moriah instead of Gecko Moria. I doubt anyone cares all too much. You're the one who brought it up by calling the person who put it on the wiki an idiot.

But Oda also didn't put his stamp of approval on those other databooks, which leads me to think this one is correct. There is a good argument that the e in Jinbe could be meant to be an ē, which would turn into Jinbei without it. I don't think old Moriah has any such argument, though.

Exactly. Which is why I get to say fuck it. I don't regret a single thing I've said or brought up. If anyone's assuming I'm getting annoyed or angry here it's their own fault though.

True that. However, I still think that they should keep already established localizations to avoid confusing new readers.
Nice transitional chapter good parts to it
Zoro eagar to show off what he can do interesting the slize of the avalance and Zoro thought he could deal with it without problems or help guess he's really did learn alot from mihawk
Sanji is one funny guy and great to see the team anticipating luffy's awnser and preparing their getaway fighting these fishman now 10000 meters under water won't work out too well even if these guys are fodder notticed one of them drinking is both a swordsman and probably part squid/octopus with multiple legs
Actually, this sounds like the most annoyed/angry post of all. Embarrassed?
Probably because you're choosing to hear it that way. It's just a bunch of text. In my head it didn't sound angry at all. What's the reasoning? Because I said fuck?
And embarrassed by what? From being misunderstood or misunderstanding something?
It seems like Oda wants to delay Zoro showing off for some reason, perhaps due to the unimaginable growth he's had.
All I can say is, when he does show off, it won't be on something irrelevant like a volcano, it'll probably something jaw dropping.

So cutting off the leg of a Kraken and slicing a ship in two with little effort aren't jaw dropping enough?
Fishman Island, fishman island~
500 chapters later, here it is, fishman island~

Not really. No. It might be when animated though.

Ug I hate the animation of the sword techniques! All coloful and bright, they also completely ruined pretty much every move Mihawk made during the war. God that was infuriating.
