@Greg:
Wow. That's amazing. I wish I could go to Japan someday.
Ah, err… thanks ^_^; But have you actually not been? (I'm sorry, since I don't know you well, I have no idea if you're being sarcastic in some way. Forgive me if that's a rude assumption in the first place, but I tend to gravitate towards that as a possibility whenever someone calls one of my experiences "amazing")
My university just paid for it all, but I suppose living in Japan is quite expensive (however, a week vacation isn't more than one might expect... unless you go to Akiba and Shinjuku and buy the hell out of all the otaku items ever). My actual goal is to get a permanent job there after I graduate in a few years, which will be pretty hard considering how nationalistic the Japanese are. At the very least, I have a few more years to continue building up a resume of Japanese internships....
@Greg:
Hey, I heard they actually hire people from overseas to work in Japanese high schools long-term. I bet if I could go someday I could get them interested in English!
I'd use One Piece in my lesson plans and they'd all love it!
Just call me Great Teacher Greg! lol
It's true that they like foreign teachers, but all (admittedly only 3) of the english teachers I've seen in Japanese high schools are Japanese. Still, if you were even remotely serious, I'd say go for it, to be honest. It would be a great opportunity for both of you (that meaning you + students), since you seem quite amazing at Japanese (I'd only finished my first year of the language by this summer =.=" Luckily, Kyoudai is an excellent university and so has plenty of people who can speak english)
I did mention that One Piece was my favorite manga, to both of my groups of high schoolers, and that got a pretty positive response very quickly.
