They're doing it with Pokemon, but for the same reasons as Yu-Gi-Oh.
Also, how far are you guys in the US with One Piece chapter wise?

@Kairouseki:
I want to see if Viz changes the manga with a subtitle if the anime does like they did with DBZ.
The manga's been having subtitles since Skypiea.
I mean like how they added the Z instead of leaving it Dragon Ball. If the anime goes with a subtitle, such as New World is being thrown around, will the manga change its name to One Piece: New World?
Also, how far are you guys in the US with One Piece chapter wise?
At the moment, 564 was the last one published.
It'd be really dumb if they did that. I don't want arcs to go like One Piece: New World: Fishman Island.
So know they can Viz allows cussing and nudity? Well I guess it's good to see them lightening up,
I don't think they're ok with nudity just yet. In the same SJ mentioned above, it did look like they censored older Nel's tanktop-thing.

I really hope it doesn't come to that.
Genkaku Picasso ran in Jump Square from September 2008 to April 2010, Usarmaru Furuya generally writes shorter stories so three volumes is about right.
since it is from Jump Square it is written for older readers than your average WSJ manga this isn't a bad thing just different.
Tegami Bachi, Claymore and Rosario + Vampire are all Jump Square manga and I read and enjoy them all

Thank you. You are the only one that has made sense to me so far. And it sucks Tegami Bachi was dropped, but I still want them to add Claymore so bad.
I actually don't mind them doing previews of manga that I haven't seen before or skipped entirely.
I know it has some fans here and there but i wish they would drop Ultimo, (another Jump Square manga btw) it could just be the fact that to me anything with even a vague connection to Stan Lee is crap but I have tried to get into it and believe me I would rather read Bleach.
I agree that they should drop Ultimo. I don't so much mind the Stan Lee connection as I don't like Hiroyuki Takei's art style at all…it's like the one art style that more and more...it just bugs me. Maybe because I think Shaman King really fell apart towards the end...I didn't finish it =/
I really can't get into Ultimo at all though.
In SJ right now...well Turn Back the Pendulum is coming up in Bleach, which was the last time the manga was good. After that though....we get to the Fake Karakura arc shudders
One Piece and Naruto are good though. I think Naruto should have 4 chapters as well as One Piece.

Fixed it for you.
Yes…that makes a lot of sense considering that is one of the series running in US Jump right now sarcasm
Just googled it and it's not even a Jump series >_<
I never said Naruto is as good as One Piece...not really close. But I still like Naruto. It's way above average for a shonen manga imo.
I wouldn't say Naruto is ABOVE average. But I would describe it as average, at best.
Hoo boy, here we go again.
Naruto is average, the same way that a giant turd is average in a sewer
@Badass:

Naruto used to be awesome, for the first 200 chapters or so.
It was quirky, had an interesting plot and colourful characters.
(kinda like One Piece)
After that….well, I've never seen the quality of a series fall so fast.
I always hear that Naruto was awesome early on, but I never quite got it. At most, I found it to be pretty average. The art started decaying, the storyboarding became awful, the humor was juvenile, the designs never managed to draw me in, most of the side cast had maybe one or two unique characteristics to make them stand out at first but never really developed all that much beyond them, and the main character was incredibly obnoxious.
It was an okay read, I suppose, and some of the fights and action was good, but it certainly wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Let's not even get started on part two…
unlike One Piece where you can read one chapter at a time and still see the big picture as well, with Naruto you pretty well need to pick up the volumes to see where Kishimoto is going, at least that is my opinion, chapters that I thought were crap upon first reading seemed to work when seen as a whole.
Did I miss any news or something?
I'm out of the loop since I stopped buying SJ.
And I find Ultimo to be pretty interesting.
And I find Ultimo to be pretty interesting.
It is all a matter of taste I suppose, I find the storyline dull and the characters worse.
Ultimo is gayer than gay.
Which is pretty gay.
Seriously, Astro Boy is more manly then that stupid effeminate robot.
Yup, I just checked.
Still gay.
In any case, the manga with the worst pacing problems is Bleach. I read it for one year weekly, not bothering to catch up, and then dropped it for a year, and just started reading it again weekly without bothering to read any of the past year and …?
No problem understanding what was going on.
Kind of since I still don't know what the arc's about or why the fuck they're were in that ... whatever place. But Aizen with butterfly ass wings? Sure, fine, Tite, whatever floats that boat.

Nothing has happened in two years. It isn't bad pacing. There just is no pacing.

It's not a place. It's a white background.

I kinda got a question. While looking at this months chapters I noticed there where white borders around the second 2 chapters (463 and 464). Then while looking at the online chapters the borders arent there. Has anyone else noticed this weird cropping issues?
Hey guys!
I have a question about trans and censorship of Viz's OP issues since I finally found a way to order OP volumes(english trans) in my country. Did they translate all coverstories? What did they do about zeff's leg-eating, and other stuff that might be "inappropriate"?
Sorry if these questions are silly but I couldn't find those answers using serch option ( I usually suck even in googling things out :/ )
I apologise in advance for grammatical and logical errors :D
Nothing is edited, except Loguetown's sign (to Roguetown) and some wanted posters.
I can live with that :D
thanks :)
The only other things of note is toning down smoker's love letter to the world government, being allergic to the concept of a supreme deity in a comic book and thus substituting "God" for Kami during skypeia(messing up one of my favourite lines in the process), and the odd mess up in translation(the only serious one that comes to mind being screwing up a fairly important line a volume or so back). Plus not being bothered to translate Haki into english.
Not enough for me personally not to buy it, but those are the things you'd want to be aware of.
Don't forget censoring all the references to Okamas.
And of course the great Zorro, um Zoro, no Zolo.
Thanks guys :)
I get it isn't perfect trans, but unless I learn Japanese one day, I don't think better English version will be available to me :/
About Zol(r)o thing, I could always use my pen to make it ZoRo
Yeah. Apart from the kami thing there wasn't anything too bad. I'm fairly happy with them.
I just received the new Shonen Jump. It has chapters 565-568.
For those of you who get hard ons whenever you see swearing, "damn it" was said twice.
There's also this cool little One Piece newspaper styled tidbits they added in explaining Whitebeard, Ace, and the war or something. Not entirely sure as I haven't read it yet.
And Ichigo is on the cover. Is it me, or do all Bleach SJ covers look the exact same? Jesus Christ.
NO, its not just you, I noticed that as well.
It's because Kubo doesn't give them enough artwork to work with.
The Jump website has a preview of the Dec. issue cover and it's going to be Naruto. Good thing considering the two huge chapters that will be in the Jan. issue for One Piece.
Here's something interesting. As you know, in Japan volume 55 is titled "Okama in Hell"…while this would best be translated as "Cross Dresser in Hell" in the US, we all know this was a long shot considering they still use Oh Come My Way instead of Okama Way and use the term Drag Queen instead of cross dresser (though in this case, the meaning is EXACTLY the same).
However in SJ magazine, the title of the chapter "Okama in Hell" was changed to "A Ray of Hope". We all assumed this would then be the title of volume 55.
However, in this month's SJ on the manga volumes for next month page, volume 55 is titled "A Chance in Hell". So it seems "A Ray of Hope" was at least changed to "A Chance in Hell". Definitely much more fitting for this volume and much more in line for their editing standards for the volume release.
Now, let's get volume 56 out in January and we're good to go Viz!
That's great news to hear about the change for volume 55's title. I just received shipping notice volume 55 was sent out from Rightstuf. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the changes, I'll check the volume title. I may post up some screen-shots. So volume 56 is coming out in Feb, not that long from now :P.
Update: It arrived today and the title for the volume is A Ray of Hope, maybe they changed the title for later printings. Since it's a week before the real release date, I haven't had the time to look through it all. What I have noticed is they changed Ivankov's laugh to woohoo and hahaha. I never read the magazine chapters for this volume so I don;t know if they had that as his laugh at the time. It's a bit odd to not have his laugh, but maybe he uses it later in the story? Either way I can just read it as Heehaw!! :D I'll get some images up during the week. So now Volume 56 isn't coming out until Feb, looking forward to it.

can u plz post a link to the preview of the december cover ? cuz i just looked & couldn't find it. also, now i want viz to do a speed up for bleach, i know that it's not as far behind as one piece was when it's speed up started but still, for naruto, they're publishing chapters that were released earlier this year in japan ! for one piece, they're currently on chapters that were released closer to the end of last year in japan. but for bleach, they're currently publishing chapters from 2 or 3 years ago ! now i know that bleach isn't everyone's favorite series, but come on viz, u can do a whole hell of alot better for bleach than what u are ! & btw, @ who ever said that they thought nel's adult form was censored, i just checked scanlation for that chapter & it wasn't censored, but i'm interested to see if they'll leave the cover for volume 34 uncensored cuz it is pretty racy & boobalious !
Couple things.
Yes, volume 34 cover is "edited" in a sense. Just google it / search for it on amazon and you can see it yourself. They just sort of conveniently placed the title, so I guess it isn't really editing.
Viz probably can't afford a Bleach speed up right now. They just did 30 volumes of One Piece this year. Be patient, they give Bleach far more attention than it deserves as is, so I'm sure it'll have a speed up eventually. Bleach would be somewhere around volume 38 - 39 right now if Viz hadn't slowed it down to put it into the magazine, so…yeah.
Bleach volumes are at least still coming out w/ 4 a year instead of 3 a year like One Piece and Naruto.
I don't think we should be complaining about the One Piece releases, since technically they released 32 (I included volume 54 and 55) volumes this year.
Come January, its time to whine and gripe about the releases.
Bleach shouldn't get a speed up because the American-only readers need to suffer through Deicide like the rest of us.

Hear, hear. Besides they would only need to speed up 10 or 15 volumes. The original release of Bleach by VIZ was a speed up. I seem recall Bleach coming out bimonthly for a year or two.
Bleach, like Naruto, is one of those series that is better when read in volumes actually. Though Naruto has been pretty awesome the past few months…heck since Pain invasion started it's been up to par.
Bleach was a bimonthly series for 21 volumes or 42 months....I wouldn't call that a speed up though. Viz releases a lot of series at that pace. I really don't think Bleach should have entered the magazine.
lol yes American readers would have to suffer through Deicide...but then WE would have to suffer through it again DX haha
ugh, i just saw the cover for volume 34, fuck u viz !! they never put the logo/title there !
I don't see the problem with Viz's volume 34. Anyone care to explain?
@Kairouseki:

they put the logo on nels chest.

Well I don't know about you, but who says I read Bleach in the magazine?

In I think Vol. 33 of Bleach they moved the logo to the center of the cover in order to avoid blocking most of Grimmjow. The logo remains in the center of Vol. 34, where it covers up a bit of Nel's underboobs.
