The Zoro stuff was great for sure.
Chapter 597: "3D2Y" Discussion
-
-
I agree with this post.
I would've too if Blackbeard didn't comment on how much Luffy's haki has grown in Impel Down.
Even in this chapter Rayleigh pointed out that King's haki grows as the character grows. It may not be power levels but a "bigger haki" should point out a stronger character.
-
Awesome chapter, can't wait to see how this pans out.
Think I'm gonna re-read the whole manga during the hiatus, might as well I'd say.
-
@Tamaki:
but thats ALOT of manga to read at once and plus the translation will probly suck and il have to look at multiple websites for diffrent manga chapters. plus i dont want to read it illegealy :cwy:
Not meaning to be rude, I promise, but how did you read this chapter?
@ultimateclima:
You don't have to wait a month. Luffy's arm is visible in the chapter.
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/98271344/16And nice find for the person who connected that tree to Daft Green.
yes, I agree, lol. I was more or less trying to be nice. So, abandoning any pretence of niceness, I say a pox upon those who doubt the truth, that ain't no tattoo.
And yeah, Credit where credit is due–-kudos to the several noticers of the trees, and the
3D2Y people (I was so wrong on that, lol) and the special folks, lead by Zephos the legendary, who believed in the 2 year time skip all along.I'm with you on this one. Oda isn't Kishi or Kubo; Haki =/= Sharingan or Bankai. Only a few will use it, the rest will rely on their own skills or what have you.
Yea, I can't think that everyone on the crew will get haki over the skip. They are all busy with other stuff, and evidentally it takes concentrated effort. Even Zoro's haki development will probably wait, if only for that reason alone. By time skip end I expect only Luffy to really have it. I expect Zoro and Sanji to develop it later, and if he doesn't develop it a little, I expect Usopp to get the others to imbue his weapons for him.
I really doubt that Oda chose to take a four week vacation now as a coincidence. Also, after Luffy's "taking a break" line and the awesome last shot of the hat, it would be silly to tack on a chapter of exposition.
IMO, the momentous, Chapter 600 occasion isn't the timeskip, but the Straw Hat reunion. 598 and 599 will probably have the crew leaving the respective training grounds (perhaps giving a tease about their new powers) and building up the reader's anticipation.
Yup–-I agree with this exactly. I think we'll see the SHs new looks or at least hints an teases of same (sillouettes and stuff maybe, especially for Usopp), maybe a bit of a tease on new powers or skills, and 600 will be the final, long awaited reunion. Can not wait!

And what does a bigger Haki mean?
Rayleigh put it simply, it is LITERALLY ambition, drive, belief in self, confidence.
And it can't be trained, just acquired through life experience. If you have a problem with people being stronger then others in regards to self-confidence then why do you like One Piece. This has been central to everything since chapter one.
-
Awesome chapter. Can't wait for the next one. Man, a month is way too long :(
Here's my guess as to who's going to be most the adept with which of the three haki.
Color of the Conqueror will be Luffy's forte. This is pretty self-explanatory if you ask me.
Color of Armaments will be Zoro's forte. The best swordsman in the world should be able to cut through anything. Strengthening this haki will allow Zoro to do this.
Color of Observation will be Usopp's forte. Usopp may always be the weakest strength-wise in the group, but he can make up for his weakness by being very quick and agile, and being able to dodge anything. Thus the emphasis on running during his brief training scene with Heracles. Who knows, he might one day be able to dodge bullets. Becoming the King of Snipers should call for no less in my opinion. Think Lucky Roo, or Vash the Stampede, or any awesome anime gun man.
-
Oh, damn it, this chapter was even better than it seemed at first.
Jinbei and Boa… the whole part with Luffy and Rayleigh... damn, I want the next chapter now!!! Seriously, this chapter really had this feeling of something finishing.
And it made me wonder about OP last chapter :/ it will suck, man, it doesn't matter how amazing it will be, One Piece will be over and that will suck.
EDIT: Tsc, I am depressed now thinking how it will feel when OP ends.
-
I'm with you on this one. Oda isn't Kishi or Kubo; Haki =/= Sharingan or Bankai. Only a few will use it, the rest will rely on their own skills or what have you.
Maybe at the end of the series, when Luffy becomes King and the Straw Hats become the strongest crew in the world, then yeah, everyone and their mom can have haki for all I care. Until then, only a small amount of people will have it.
bad ccomparison, They are only like 3 people with a sharingan in Naruto and no Kages have a sharigan. Anyways, Luffy will just know the basics when the timeskips resumes.
@I:Not meaning to be rude, I promise, but how did you read this chapter?

I doubt Zoro doesn't learn the basics while training with Mihawk. Luffy and Zoro are basically always equal.
-
@Del:
Rayleigh Kenobi and Luffy Skywalker, that's nice.
and Dracule Sideous and Zoro Vader
or
Dracule Palpatine and Zoro Skywalker -
I loved that scene with Zoro and Mihawk cuz we actually see Mihawk laughing. if you think it's out of character for Zoro, then you weren't paying attention.
I, too, lol at people who think the "One Piece" is going to be taken in 2 years when it hasn't happened in 20. though I'm curious what Blackbeard is going to do in that time.
@Tamaki:

You have a whole month to read chapters. there's places where you can read all the chapters in good quality. and if you need to know good translations you can probably ask Aohige or look it up (one piece wikia is fairly good in terms of giving you good translations). As long as you buy the manga, I see nothing wrong with reading scans. Seriously, you need to read every chapter. If you read One Piece you should already know that every page is important and worthwhile.
-
omg, just noticed WB hair in that cover. Uuuuuuuuuh, baldness can be a bless sometimes.
-
Awesome cover page and incredibly informative Chapter, but like always it leaves me craving another chapter. This is gonna be one long month
-
An excellent chapter to stop on; can't wait for the New World to start, but it's gonna be good when it does.
On a side note, does anyone think we saw one of those mandrilling baboons before; the one in Gedatsu's cover story that acted like a head honcho?
-
Becoming the King of Snipers should call for no less in my opinion. Think Lucky Roo, or Vash the Stampede, or any awesome anime gun man.
Woah, I thought that myth had died a long time ago. Brings me back, man.
-
You know guys, if anyone has read Saint Seiya, don´t you find Haki similar to Cosmo? I mean it seems like Haki is quoting JERK DISEASE since I dont wanna write it lol
Rayleigh put it simply, it is LITERALLY ambition, drive, belief in self, confidence.
And it can't be trained, just acquired through life experience.Kinda like Saint Seiya where cosmo is infinite, though Cosmo isn´t nearly as well explained as Haki.
-
One thing that I hope is that the series after this time skip doesn't feel like a "part 2" but is a continuation of what we have been reading.
-
@JERK:
And what does a bigger Haki mean?
Rayleigh put it simply, it is LITERALLY ambition, drive, belief in self, confidence.

Fine I'll admit I'm wrong in stating that haki grows stronger through training and that i was wrong in stating haki is equal to power levels.
I just don't get when ambition turns into hidden powers and what it takes to make haki "grow".
I used Impel Down's comment as an example since Luffy's haki was mentioned to be more powerful. Is that just because he's more ambitious or because he grew during his experiences? Given Rayleigh's explanation, it's the later, which is why I'll admit I'm wrong. What will it takes for haki to grow stronger? Will Luffy have life altering moments in the new world and have a growth in haki? Will his adventures with his friends help grow his ambition? Will fighting a bunch of new enemies help the ambition grow? When I made that first post I immediately thought the later which is why I compared it to power levels. Fighting new enemies makes you stronger.
Zoro basically gave that similar reasoning in Enies Lobby in how the crew gets stronger so it's fine.
-
Woah, I thought that myth had died a long time ago. Brings me back, man.
Sorry, man. I've been on like a 4 year hiatus from reading One Piece. Only started reading the manga again recently.
-

!
This is a mole. -
I find the Mihawk / Zoro dynamic fascinating. I wonder if Kuma somehow foresaw this? He probably was only thinking about getting past the battle monkeys. Then again…he did witness Zoro fully willing to eat a big ball of pain for Luffy, so subjugating himself to get stronger was probably not a stretch.
Mihawk willing to take on Zoro as a student tells me a lot about Mihawk. He knows he's the man, and that no one can take him. It takes a supreme confidence in one's ability to personally train a guy who's stated goal is to beat you. I can't think of any situation (in manga or real life), where the best trains someone trying to beat the best. It's pretty fascinating. Plus, I suppose Mihawk realizes that if you aren't getting better, you're getting worse. Who better than Zoro as a sparring partner . I think Zoro knew all of this when he started begging. I'm really excited at how strong Zoro will be after 2 years.
Luffy is going to be a beast. A haki-infused beast. I predict herds of elephants going unconscious in 2Y. My guess is that he'll get the "armor" one down, be pretty good with "intimidation" Haki, and terrible with the "presence" haki. Luffy sensing the wrong thing all the time would be hilarious. Being proficient in all three types of Haki (even after 2Y) is too big of a power jump in my eyes (this isn't Bleach after all…ZING).
I see nothing wrong with a time jump. I don't remember One Piece focusing 4 weeks of chapters on training exercises like some other action manga. Two years underscores how difficult powering up is going to be for this crew. Also it is a good indicator of how F'ing epic the New World is. Bad guys aren't going to get any easier, and Luffy knows it.
Also looking forward to Sanji's and Franky's power up. I fully expect Sanji's first appearance to be in an Okama suit. I don't know if Robin will get much stronger, but her time with Dragon may be interesting story-wise.
-
Genius idea from Oda of using the four week break to give us a feeling of the passage of time in story.
-
i see 598 and 599 going thru and show other side characters like the warlords marines croc and moria and the SN then 600 showing us the straw hats
-
I doubt Zoro doesn't learn the basics while training with Mihawk. Luffy and Zoro are basically always equal.
That's a good point, but remember Luffy isn't making his rubber d/f powers stronger, only his haki ones, while Zoro is making his sword play stronger. I still think, given the way it was described in this chapter, that Zoro won't really learn haki here. It takes effort and training, we've been told, and he will supposedly be putting all of his attention on learning swordplay from Mihawk.
-
Wonder what the hell Brook is going to do. Make such adoring fans out of the two joint arm tribe that they make him their leader? xD And then train him somehow?
-
What you mean this?

Is it safe to assume that the haki Coby has now is color of observation? It did imply that the haki he got from the war involves sensing people.
-
i think he is going to leave brooks and robin as a surprise
-
If Luffy's gonna power up with Rayleigh teaching him, Coby's jump is going to be just as grand. Garp and Sengoku are gonna rip him all sorts of new holes.
Is it safe to assume that the haki Coby has now is color of observation? It did imply that the haki he got from the war involves sensing people.
He'll get armour too, he has to be able to hurt Luffy.
-
i see coby being a admiral after the jump
-
It's official, Mangastream's OP translations suck!
-
i think he is going to leave brooks and robin as a surprise
No doubt about it, since it's already a done deal, lol. Timeskip happens, IMHO, over the four week break, and when we come back, 2 years will have sidled by in the OPverse. Then we'll see.
I wonder how soon after the break we'll see Luffy meeting with dear ol' dad… There's the off chance that he'll come with Robin (though I doubt it given that the reunion itself ought to take precedence over all that sort of stuff.)
@MPyre--yes
@Madmanricky, again--you are mad if you really think he'll be an admiral. Stronger? Without a doubt. Higher ranking? Maybe, sure, Admiral? No.
-
Hmm…Rayleigh said most people are naturally inclined to the color of Haki they're most skilled with. Maybe that's why he could cut Kizaru while using "The Color of Armaments" Haki and Marco and Vista failed to cut Akainu. They weren't that gifted or trained with it.
-
I love this manga.
I have 100% confidence in Oda, if anyone can pull off a succesfull several year (2y) timeskip, it's him.
I hope the characters get a lot of development, new looks and new skills. This way the timeskip feels like an actual timeskip, not just a magic trick to advance training. The world will evolve, Strawhats fame and glory will fade, enemies will get stronger, world will change.
In the end, it seems very much that part 2 of One Piece will be almost like a "reset" for the manga.
-The world we are about to enter is completely unfamiliar ("New World"), just like when manga started.
-The direction of the story is completely open, just like when manga started
-The world is filled with exciting new characters we have never seen before, just like when manga started (all old characters have gotten development, thus they are new)
-We can look forward to new powers and abilities, we have no idea what main characters have in their pockets, just like when manga started
-Yet, when we enter, we will see the familiar faces we all love: the Strawhats.I predict that tears will be shed when the manga finally returns, tears of joy. I know at least I will.
–
<--Is very exited about the timeskip. 2 years is not "too long". Remember, during the part 2 the Strawhats will have to be able to fight equally with Yonkou, WG Admirals (perhaps all of them at the same time even), Blackbeard and other supernova. 2 years actually feels very little training for me.A 2 year period is almost nothing, lest anyone forget, its been 20 fucking years since Roger died and no one has found the One Piece yet.
These two posts sum up EXACTLY how I feel about the chapter and the time-skip.
-
Uh, no.
^Fixed image.
I totally forgot there was another animal in the cover story. and wow, I think you're right!! They look identical enough, minus the armor. which begs the question, how did that monkey get there in the first place? This is a pretty interesting find.
-
This chapter got me so pumped! I can't wait for the New World! And I think this is officially the halfway point into the series, so I expect at least another 10 years of fun after this four week break, and I'll be 31 by then, lol.
Although, at the same time, I feel content with waiting a month. Somehow, this chapter managed to make this month wait not so painful, because I know there's a ton of things to look forward to.
Oh, and let me state that the one panel of Eneru in that flashback and the final confirmation of Mantra being Haki made me one happy fan. It also makes me feel like Eneru will definitely make a come back. But of all the things to look forward to, I'm most interested in what all the characters will look like in two years time. Not only the Straw Hats, but all the other characters like Buggy's team, the Warlords, Blackbeard and many others.
Oh, as a final comment, I had to state that Zoro actually taking lessons from Mihawk was a huge surprise. I mean, all of us were saying it wouldn't happen, but it did.
-
i look at coby as luffy if he would of joined marines like garp wanted him to so luffy get a upgrade coby will get one there are only three admirals since he goal is fleet admiral needs to be a admiral first with garp support i see it happening after the skip
-
Ya know, I remember when people theorized that each Strawhat would get a roushiki skill. It's the same here. Haki is cool, but just cause Luffy's learning it doesn't mean the other SHs have to imitate him to keep up.
Completely agree with you. It's like Sanji learning Rankyaku and Getsupou all over again.
-
Thnx for upload. 1month T_T. Damn im gonna start highschool xD. Haha can't wait to see reunion and the power ups. I bet the straw hats are all gonna learn basic haki and luffy gonna learn all 3 and be able to float on water<-wtf xD
-
i see 598 and 599 going thru and show other side characters like the warlords marines croc and moria and the SN then 600 showing us the straw hats
I'm really leaning towards seeing the SHs individually, going back to SA for those two chapters. I feel like this vacation is at least partially to pump up anticipation for the second part of the series. I (and I'm sure most other people too) would be disappointed to wait another two chapters to see the main characters. It'd just feel anticlimactic after the long wait. It's the reunion that's going to be so momentous, and that needs a couple chapters of build-up.
i look at coby as luffy if he would of joined marines like garp wanted him to so luffy get a upgrade coby will get one there are only three admirals since he goal is fleet admiral needs to be a admiral first with garp support i see it happening after the skip
Seriously? He got a one-hit KO from Luffy last time we saw him, and I certainly don't expect Luffy to be admiral level at the end of two years. Admirals are some of the strongest characters in the series, and it wouldn't leave him any room to grow in a story that's only half done.
Coby's shown that he can grow a lot in a short period of time, but he still got his ass kicked; he's not going to be one of the strongest men in the world in a couple of years. He'll up a few steps in rank. He stills needs room to grow too, after all. Not only is it implausible, but it's silly to put him so close to his dream halfway through, when Luffy is still so far away from his. Yeah, he'll get there eventually, but not until the end.
-
. My guess is that he'll get the "armor" one down, be pretty good with "intimidation" Haki, and terrible with the "presence" haki. Luffy sensing the wrong thing all the time would be hilarious.
OAIEOIAEIOIEOA that would make for the best scene ever !!
And here lies the beauty of Oda's genius. Even if he has his characters power up over such a long period of time, there's still room to grow on the other end. We all know Luffy won't master Haki, Zoro won't defeat Mihawk without us witnessing the fight, Franky won't upgrade himself to become the ultimate pacifista, etc. etc.
There's two characters in the SH crew that I REALLY want to see after this timeskip and they are Zoro and Sanji. I pray to Gaara that Sanji won't turn into an okama and that he won't use okama kempo to the dot. By that I mean I hope he incorporates some of the okama kempo moves into his personal fighting style. I much prefer the name of his moves being based on his love to cook
I find the Mihawk / Zoro dynamic fascinating. I wonder if Kuma somehow foresaw this? He probably was only thinking about getting past the battle monkeys. My bet is that what he did with the toro of duval…
not devastating but calm but spirited... you know what i mean?
-
the reunion will be chapter 600 with where he will show us the crew and how they look now he has already shown us the thing like coby going off to train in haki buggy get a letter and bonny get caught by the marines before showing the the crew was going to do in the timeskip so i see him doing the same leading into the actual reunion
-
I'm glad the last chapter before the break didn't really end on that much of a cliffhanger. So, 2 year timeskip confirmed, I'm incredibly giddy to see everyone after 2 years, and what the world is like.
And Ambition is finally explained to us in full, and that Mantra is a type of it. Rayleigh's explanation kind of reminded me of Nen from HXH .
And 4 weeks…
-
the only problem i have with one piece AND the time skip in general is that in 2 years…won't OTHER pirates have gotten far along the grandline to have FOUND one piece???...I just don't understand...
-
It's been over 20 years since Roger hid One Piece, and it still hasn't been found.
-
Even if someone DOES find it, what's to stop the Straw Hat Pirates from simply…Stealing it? :ninja:
-
-
Awesome chapter!
I'd say more but I'm still stuck on the four weeks. Four whole weeks without OP? I can hardly make it a week without it….I don't know what I'll do for 4. I mean obviously it's a deserved vaca for Oda but man!
-
Oh, great. Mangastream disabled the option of saving the pictures.
you can just drag the image and drop it on your desktop/folder at least on FF you can.
-
Interesting, but I think Haki says a LOT about Blackbeard.
It's been stated by several characters that Haki is the result of true ambition, hard work, and willpower; it's capable of literally harming the elements (e.g., Logia users).
Blackbeard's Yami Yami no Mi does essentially just that, but rather than achieve this Haki-esque power through hard work, he obtained "his" ability through conniving and treachery.
Thus, the contrast between Luffy and Blackbeard is greater than ever, where one of them spent two years honing his ability, while the other spent twenty years scheming. Guess who Oda will have as the ultimate victor?
-

LOL! Damn pirates.
-
I feel special. Once I saw the message, I knew exactly what it meant. But the four weeks…...man, that is LONG. I need my OP fix. At least I pre-ordered Gigant Battle.
Anyways, OP is going in such a hugely different direction. I'm kinda nervous. But I CAN NOT WAIT to see the reunion.
What has it been now, about 90 chapters?
-

That's actually a really good way to think about it. Oda you little devil .
-
what a great man is oda. making a pause while luffy and his crew are on their training for 2 years …. so, we can imagine that until end of sept, all crew is in training ...
and finally, it comes true that luffy is training with rayleigh to strengthen his haki.
happy fasting everybody.
