Ehhh, I don't read much manga besides One Piece and….Naruto (:getlost:). Plus, I have the first 48 volumes of One Piece that I can read, so this won't affect me much. But, I feel bad for the people it will effect.
One Manga closing
-
-
That darn RIAA at it again
-
I understand why they have to close, but it'll make finding new series and reading old ones so much harder. I know I probably won't have the energy or patience to go and search for various sites around the web for every series I want to follow, rather than to have them all conveniently in the same place.
-
Sad to see it go. It sort of reminds me of the day Lik-Sang closed, but not as sad.
One manga was a great site for getting massive amount of manga out there to the people.
It was the site that got me started on Air Gear, Reborn, Bakuman, Beelzebub, Death Note, and many more.
It will be missed.
-
Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn
(just a movie insult reference, don't get all pissy on me for this)I'll just read OP on MangaStream, it's really the only manga I'm even interested in.
-
oh noes, I'll have to use one of the 20 other manga sites I know.
-
Man…OneManga was really convenient and awesome...it will be missed.
-
What the hell?? I wonder why they are shutting onemanga down. This is a big loss. I hope the other manga sites won't follow suit, coz it will be hell if they did. Oh the agony
-
Grrr… onemanga blocked me
-
-
NOOOOOO
now where I will get my low quality, poorly translated manga scans??!?!?!?!!?!?!?! -
NOOOOOO
now where I will get my low quality, poorly translated manga scans??!?!?!?!!?!?!?!right here for more low quality, poorly translated manga scans. ;)
-
right here for more low quality, poorly translated manga scans. ;)
that will go down soon
-
-
I wonder if the govt. actually thinks this will change anything
as if taking down a few sites is going to stop us from getting spoilers and scans each week
and if they somehow manage to close down 2chan and this forum and all the other places where spoilers and RAWs come from, they STILL won't change jackshitlol
-
what does the gov't have to do with onemanga?
-
whatever government affiliated trust that's allowing the manga publishers to shut it down
-
one manga blocked my 2 severs :/
anyway i have back uped around 400 mangas. but cant do any more untill i arrange new severs. -
And nothing of value was lost.
Seriously, their scans of One Piece were mediocre at best. Once I discovered Mangastream I never looked back.
…However, this could be a troubling sign for other manga sites, which have a good chance of being taken down sooner or later. After that happens, I guess I'll just have to use torrents or something. Or maybe buy the actual manga. -

Or maybe buy the actual manga.except for the fact that if the situation get's so serious that nearly every manga site is taken down, there's bound to be private, invitation-only sites that will pop up in recluse sections of the internet, full of select members who can scan, translate and do all that other good stuff in private
-
Anyone know of a place where I can read Dengeki Daisy now?
Aside from One Piece, it's the only manga I really give a shit about :U -
Oy man now I'll never finish Closer and Hyde and Princess Ressurection. =P This has been a tough year for manga.
Tch and they complain about people getting manga for free. How the bloody hell do they think we found out about said works to buy them. Am not defending scanlations or anything. Just annoyed by this. I can't even continue Muhyo and Roji because my book stores barely or flat out don't have it on the shelves! How about focusing on giving us more volumes before they complain about scans.
That said though gonna miss checking on on ol OM. It was a good manga site.
-
The Government VS. Pirates ?
Ironic when you think about it though …
That said though gonna miss checking on on ol OM. It was a good manga site.
I was indeed! My fav :'c

Why are people bringing up mangafox? Wasn't it a while ago that mangafox took a bunch of their mangas down because of this?
-
even with a million other manga sites, onemanga is THE gateway for most people. I seriously doubt mangafox can replace onemanga, especially since mangafox focuses more on Shoujo rather than Shounen. And other sites have "obscure" manga preferences (just because there aren't enough "big3tards" visiting them).
Then again, when a mighty tree falls in a forest, a hundred sprout in its place. It'll be exciting to see which sites become the scourge of all manga publishers.

I may end up becoming a better customer of Sasuga books, at this rate.
I hate to break it to you Satsuki, but Sasuga is about to go outta biz.
I spoke to the owner (or I assume he is, a Japanese man listening to Japanese baseball radio) at A-kon, and he told me he's shutting down the store due to economic climate and the dollar being too weak.I shuffled through his clearance items, found bunch of seinen manga tankobons aimed at businessmen, and I joked to him "uh, there's no way any of these would ever sell here in the US". He laughed and said those were most likely leftovers of special orders Japanese customers residing in US ordered, but never picked up.
Gleefully I picked up bunch of books none of the con-goers even swat an eye at. Titles like "Money is Crying", "Say Hello to Black Jack", and "Real".
He even had the now out of print first volume of Exxaxion, which of course, I picked up in a snap.Clearance sale is great for my wallet, but at the same time made me sad we're going to lose a great storefront for Japanese books in US.
-
… Geh. As long as mangaupdates never shuts down, I think I'll be able to keep track of all of the series I'm following =.=" since they don't actually host chapters, I can't see a reason for them to go down.
While it's disappointing to hear that even places selling Japanese books in America are declining, since I'm actually learning Japanese, imports should always be possible, if they ever REALLY get hardcore about preventing scanlations from happening. The reason I never buy english manga isn't (just) because I'm cheap, but because I'm too obsessed with being as up-to-date as possible with all the manga I follow. I never have the following problem with the most popular Jump series, but I've actually bought a few copies of Shonen Sunday since I've come to Japan, because that's the fastest way of seeing the raws for those chapters (HSDK, Conan, Hayate, Zettai Karen Children, and The World God Only Knows... and seeing so many chapters of Rin-ne is giving me morbid curiosity for what's going on in Rumiko Takahashi's latest work =.=").
-
Sigh… Now where will the thousands of nerds waste their time?
This could be the end of the internet..>
-
I'll piss on its ashes. Smell ya later, shitheads.
-
We will overcooooome…....

Yeah. Sadly, the website has been down for some time now. I've heard the same response from the con floor. A shame, really.
Nice grabs there.

Move the Server to EU host it in a country where having online manga is not illegal
I recommend Slovenia heh
Seriously though… why is everybody freaking out. And why cant One Manga just simply move. I don't have the slightest idea where their server is being hosted (I figure USA) so laws from USA abide than.
Lawsuit is way easier that way not to mention that as far as I know in USA having Manga online actually is illegal while here in Slovenia it is not -
After so many year, people were just dependent on the site. So losing it really came as huge blow. Am kinda worried for the scanlations groups though. There were a lot of regulars on that site, it must be like losing the biggest customer to them.
-
Why are people bringing up mangafox? Wasn't it a while ago that mangafox took a bunch of their mangas down because of this?
Go check Mangafox. It's got a lot of manga back, like the Big Three.

Don't really care. It was getting to the point where people got too spoiler happy with that site.

This was posted on Baka, I think it's a pretty interesting read:
The Situation of Manga Hosting
silverado writes: _In regard to the recent anti-piracy activities in the film, music and manga industry I've decided to write this post as a warning to all website owners who are currently hosting scanlations or fansubs to think twice about a take down request!
The publishers made their move and it's now up the community and admins to make ours. Despite many rumors and confusion there is one thing we can tell for sure: Going to court is the worst of all possible scenarios!
If the scanlation community wants to survive and maintain the freedom they are enjoying now, it is of utmost importance that all US online manga viewing sites comply with the publisher's take down requests. Because it takes only one loss in court to create a leading case to make scanlations officially and forever illegal. For the first time in history is the creation and hosting of scanlations threatened. Do you remember Morpheus P2P or Kazaa? Winny or ShareEX2? File sharing was tolerated until it grew too big to be neglected by the industry. This is the same. If this case gets through, there will be no gray-zone, no tolerance, no tolerated hosting anymore! A loss in court will result in a wide spread trickle-down effect on all US webhosting providers. Scanlations will be seen as cancer that has to be cut out and pursued. Hosting scanlations, even unlicensed material will be classified as illegal software. Webhosting accounts will be banned, IPs might be given out to find the uploader. This is all a real threat and it pains me to say that this is legally possible and a very probable scenario. So if you all want to continue reading scanlations from your favorite group, stop whining about it and start supporting your admin's decision to take down licensed series! We all are carrying the moral responsibility to set the legal environment for future scanlations! So support your admins decisions to take down manga! As for the admins, think twice before you don't comply to a take down notice. The best solution for the scanlation community and the corporation is to cooperate exist next to each other. Don't force them to use legal weapons of mass destruction. It's a lose-lose situation for all of us.

Feh, It will most probably simply move to P2P.

With onemanga closing, I've uploaded all the one piece chapters I have onto megaupload for a friend. If anyone wants to take advantage of this, here are the links:

He sounds like a complete moron.

First : Onemanga deserves what is happening, when you have whole manga books on your website you can be sure that soon or later publishers are going to say something about it.
Second : Who cares ? There always will be a way to get scan of the latest chapters. Always.
Internet is a freaking hydra, cut a head, two appears.

huh. I was just on mangafox and they removed One Piece (along with Naruto and Bleach). Damn…

When I made that post MangaFox still had the Big Three on there.
MangaStream is another option, with awesome quality, if you haven't heard of it.
-
Mangastrean's lack of archiving is the only issue for me. That and they only do their choice of the biggest manga out there.
-
Honestly, I think I decided to buy the one piece manga in part because onemanga is closing shop.
I don't feel really bad about it but I did read a lot of series on that site and still use it to follow series including Skip Beat, xxxHolic, and occasionally Detective Conan. I remember finding this and thinking what a blessing it was after reading really bad scans for one piece from a yahoo? site.
-

I use Mangastream every week, but there is the problem that Wagomu mentioned:

The lack of archiving might be the reason they've been spared.
-
@JERK:
The lack of archiving might be the reason they've been spared.
no one actualy knows if they are spared or not. the giant collation hasn't done anything so far. sites are going down on their own accord.
-
@JERK:

You actually think they will be spared?
I've heard that they're the ones who made that mobile application and charged money for it which caused a lot of trouble.
