@Buuhan1:
Yeah, I was thinking as such. Considering brand new video games are like, what, 8,800 yen over there? I figured the yen had to be a lot stronger than the dollar.
Err.
That is the opposite of how things work.
Video games and anime in Japan are just plain expensive.
If you think about it logically, 8800 yen means nearly $100 for a video game. That's why when you hear about any African prices, they're some ridiculously high number of their currency, because their currency is worth LESS, so the equivalent is a much lower number of dollars/cents.
So, a direct correlation would imply that the yen is weaker, which it isn't.
A better example that shows slightly more of a correlation is manga. The most expensive volume of manga ever would be like 540 yen, whereas average volumes are like $10 in the US.
But honestly, there is no direct correlation you will find, except by going and exchanging money. Prices are more of a pseudo-cultural thing.
Point: The yen is stronger, but your example does the opposite of prove your point.
Also to the off-topic thread in general, I actually like Family Mart's conbini sushi >.> Does that make me a horrible person? It's really cheap, too <3
