Nice chap. The Sabo character development was great.
Chapter 585 "Brothers' Cup" Discussion
-
-
Treasure Credit is so cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!!
and page 10 looks like gear 3 chibi luffy :D
-
Recently Luffy suffered just too many losses.
-
ha funny, people were joking around saying who sabo is such as urogue and so on.
i was about to post that sabo is zoro and that he fell down a cliff and bumbed his head (dragonball referance) and lost his memory of who he was. He then got lost and found his way to dojo and what not else and came to be known as roronoa zoro.
but then got strung up doing stuff at work and boss came by and stuff and just finally was free now, and i see pics of sabo without hat on and he looks like zoro, lol
of course he isn't, but just found it funny how i was going to joke that and then he ends up looking simialr in that bath naked shot
Cant be considering Zoro is 19, while Sabo would have been 20

I like Savo. Hope he is alive. And hated.
mmmm.
is this an accurate translation? -
Meh. Didn't really care for this chapter. Nothing really stuck out as being enjoyable.
-
Sabo = next nakama
i'm sure he saw the whole stuff with Ace being executed and Luffy trying to help him, he might show up in the present to visit Luffy
-
Well apparently it is unless you're expecting Luffy to have a similar breakdown to Sabo's "death" as Ace's (or why Luffy doesn't consider him a brother anymore despite the brother bond being "unbreakable").
Anyway, its all moot because next chapter Ace will probably say some counseling words that Luffy will take to heart and will explain his future actions.
And how long did Luffy know nami before deciding he wouldn't leave cocoyashi village without her.
-
Maybe Sabo said he broke all ties and brotherhood with them so they'd stop going after him.

He might be the right inspiration luffy needs now, i guess. If only he is not dead:ninja:
You never know with Oda. -
@AdmiralYonkouMt.Bandit:
Maybe Sabo said he broke all ties and brotherhood with them so they'd stop going after him.
Maybe Savo pretended to do something that made them hate him for that purpose.
-
So what Oda though about adding another brother.
-
my guess is that sabo dies or something and this is why luffy was so adamant about not losing ace, since he didnt want to lose another brother and relive whatever happened with sabo.
-

You never know with Oda.Well I don't see any other reasons why would Oda devote precious chapters to him now, other than he will show up in the near future.
-
I loved this chapter. So glad that they are all brothers (for now).
-
well well well gues what sabo doesnt die hahahahaahhaha
his gona meet louffy now
in the present and gonna kik the wg ass… to bad for all those who wanted him dead...
wahahahahahahaha -
Yeah, 99% confirmed now, Sabo is gonna die, lol
-
Ace being undefeated against Luffy doesn't really seem all that impressive anymore. It wasn't that Ace was super strong. Just that Luffy at that age fucking sucked. Couldn't even throw a Gomu Gomu Pistol correctly.
But Ace didn't leave for another 7 years after that. Presumably he and Luffy kept having 50-100 matches a day.
So even when Luffy was pushing 14/15, and was assuredly much tougher and better at fighting, he still never beat Ace. Not ONCE, by Luffy's own admisison.
So thats probably somewhere between 127,750 and 255,500 matches Luffy never won. Even with his DF.
-
Talk about a poisoned chalice.
-
i dont think so… though
-
Thanks for the chapter.
Something seems peculiar with the revelation of Sabo's heritage in my head: somehow I have this feeling there is going to be something major by the end of this flashback…but it's just hard to say what it's going to be. Anyway...it does also feel weird that even Windmill Village is in the Goa Kingdom...and that Garp would just randomly show up to beat up on Luffy and Ace.
-
Although highly doubtful, I would find it absolutely hillarious to see that Sabo is the noble that Luffy knocked out in the Archipelago
-
I haven't seen anyone post this page yet. Perhaps it's more evidence that Sabo is either dead or is believed to be dead.
-
Its probably better for the story if Sabo reappears and helps Luffy recover from Ace's Death. A Hancock and Sabo meeting would be very interesting though
-

This makes me irelevantly wanna see Luffy at 14 .
No reason realy , just curious .
-
Indeed, there's still the "I won't die ever" incident.
I wonder… Sabo's present could go so many ways.
He could died, and then ace said the "I won't ever die"
Ace and Luffy could have tought that he died-
He could betray them (not likely)
He could break the brotherhood bond by force -
sabo and luffy will kick the marines asses after what they did to ace… if they ever meet... if he is stil alive im so ciurious how he would look like
-
Aah, nice chapter.
Though I wish we were still able to get raws as easily as before…Anyways.
Maybe Sabo did something bad against Luffy and Ace so they would stop trying to rescue him and getting themselves killed, which would lead them to cutting all ties with him.
But then again, I doubt that Luffy/Ace would care and would keep trying (unless it was something really, really horrible) -
Also I realy wonder if Ace told them who his father was given well ya know , that their kids .
Because otherwise what he says sounds reeealy weird :
"You want me to live ?" , "I'll prove to them I'm alive !" etc.
-
What a great chapter! I still have a bad feeling about poor Sabo; Even more so now.
Also, Luffy's 'treasure credit' was adorable.
-

Pretty sure we saw him wave goodbye to Ace at 14/15 in a flashback panel, but i don't know which chapter within the war that was.
And face it people, Sabo is either dead or believed dead! (Which leaves everything open really )
-
He wasn't actualy shown , Ace wasn't even visible and Luffy was a dot .
And it was the WB/Ace flashback chapter .
-
the montage after they become brothers hit me the hardest, now that ace is dead. now i genuinely…i feel so bad for luffy.
-

See, Luffy was a dot at that time, no wonder he never beat Ace!
-
I must say, it's a pretty epic fail to throw a straight punch and instead end up uppercutting yourself in the face.
Nice little montage there. This straight-forward storytelling is such a breath of fresh air after a straight year and a half of non-stop action, and twenty different characters getting a small handful of panels each per chapter. It feels kinda strange to me, that Fuschia Village turns out to be part of a whole kingdom, rather than the complete boondocks we were earlier led to believe it was.
With this new development of Sabo being of nobility, I'd really like to see him in the present day, and have him somehow meet with Luffy soon. Just to see what his reactions to everything that's been going on. Assuming he doesn't get stuffed in the fridge, of course.
Still have no idea what role the Celestial Dragons are supposed to play here. Maybe Bluejam has intentions of selling Luffy and Ace to them or something.
-
Loved this chapter–the refreshing innocence of their childhood and the interesting kingdom geography.
Did anyone else think that Edge town was a lot like Zozo from FF6?
-
I loved this chapter. It reminded me of the days Oda told stories like Drum Kingdom.
-
Sabo will be the insider that helps Luffy in the upcoming World Noble arc.
Vivi in Alabasta
Kokoro in Water 7/Enies Lobby
Lola in Thriller Bark
Rayleigh in Shaobody
Hancock in Impel DownExpect Sabo to join in on the list of unexpected allies to turn the tide
-
I must say, it's a pretty epic fail to throw a straight punch and instead end up uppercutting yourself in the face.
Luffy doesn't simply fail . He fails WITH A DON !
@ Crossword : I am actualy glad we got some insight into the teritorial order in EB . Makes it more realistic .
Also , it's a small harbour villiage that nobody cares about , it's like New Hampshire :ninja:
-
imo, sabo probably did something horrible because luffy doesn't consider him a brother anymore. luffy would be too harsh if he considers ace his only brother even if sabo's dead.
that said, treasure credit lol. i wonder whether luffy will settle it after they finish sailing the grand line. oh, and typical oda not mentioning anything about the tenryuubito even if they were the last ones mentioned in the previous chapter. D:
-
Great chapter. Thanks so much for posting.
In the f/b scene where Ace comes back and chides a crying Luffy by saying something like "Did you think I was dead? I'm never gonna die." makes it sound as if there was something where Luffy wasn't present for the end, but it looked like Ace, and maybe Sabo? died. But its possible that Sabo didn't die any more than Ace did.
here–I don't know how to insert pics: http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/574/17/ and the previous page, where it starts
-
Said it in the last chapter thread and im saying it again.
Sabo is probably Kid, just look at those glasses, and the desire to become a captain. Go KID
kid and luffy have met before … they would recognise each other and also kid is from another part of the ocean i thought it my self wen i first saw sabo but theyy just look alike
-
Okay your gonna think me silly for this but I got a theory.
I think Law is Sabo. I mean think about it. And before you say it, yeah they don't look anything alike. Well neither did Coby when he came back into the story from way off in the starting days of the comic. So it not much of a stretch. Plus Sabo did say he wants to be a pirate captain. Sabo secretive so is Law. Plus the nobles would have access in the fields of doctoring so that would also help. Plus this would give a bit more incentive why he came to Luffy's rescue.
But then again I was wrong about the law protecting the Straw Hats back in Enies Lobby so meh. I'll just wait and see like the rest of ya and bite my tongue if am wrong.
Still though great chapter and nice to see were getting near the end of it and a step closer back to the main timeline.
-
What's written on Ace's shirt?
-
Just read the the manga on Mangastream.
There is no way in the world Sabo's father is going to keep his promise and not harm Ace and Luffy.
There is no way Ace and Luffy can defeat Bluejam and his pirates at their age. We know Dadan has been checking up on Ace, Luffy and Sabo and that is why I believe next chapter we find out how strong Dadan is.

i'm thinking luffy and ace go rescue sabo and the shit then hits the fan in their rescue attempt. luffy ends up getting left behind and ace goes by himself to save sabo but luffy thinks ace might be dead or something. he meets up with sabo but sabo probably ends up cutting ties with ace so that he won't endanger himself anymore. ace probably tells luffy that sabo cut ties with them and luffy accepts it and moves on. this may be why luffy didn't consider sabo a brother anymore.

Yeah the thought crossed my mind a few minutes ago, but I dismissed it. Now that you've said it, though, it seems more possible, lol. Strength in numbers? Anyway, It would certainly explain a lot. But of course, why doesn't he have glasses? Why does he look so different? (Then again, so does Coby) Why is he from North Blue? Where has he been all this time. Seems more and more unlikey when you look at it logically, but I so want Law to be a good guy.

Interesting theory but the problem is, we already kind of know why he came back in got Luffy.
Also, I don't think you have to be a Noble to become a doctor in One Piece, Chopper's teacher is proof of that.
-
What I find interesting is that in this chapter it says that Luffy was born in Windmill village. I always figured he was born somewhere else and brought there as a baby. I know that it's Garp's home village and Dragon was probably rasied there, but the villagers probably know who Luffy's mom is.
