NFL Season 2010

Initial thoughts:
-What did I say???? Watch out for those NFC West teams that no one gives a chance because they are dangerous. And that was the greatest playoff run I have ever seen when Marshan Lynch broke tackles from 8/11 guys on defense for a TD, insane. And the Saints secondary was HORRIBLE, and even more was that was the Defensive Coaching. They wouldn't get out of zone even after Hassleback showed that he will kill you if you stay in it. Gotta love the playoffs though, and for everyone who said that they didn't deserve to get in…shut up. If you win your division you are in the playoffs, period.
I'm not a fan of a team with a losing record coming into the playoffs, but I agree that the Seahawks earned their win today. Both Brees and Hassleback had great games, and I enjoyed the shootout, even if the outcome wasn't the preferred one.
-As a Pats fan I don't know how I feel about seeing the Jets for a 3rd time this season. I thought the Colts were gonna lose, there D was bad all year and that offense is missing a lot of players. Sanchez looked horrible in the first half and the play calling offensivley was just bad. But in the end he won it. Cromartie had a bad defensive game (he was the most overratted corner this season) but he basically won the game with that return at the end. Also poor play-calling by the Colts, why do you run it on 3rd and 5+ when you have PEYTON MANNING. Plus that was a stupid time-out with 29 seconds to go by Caldwell. And I know its probably not gonna happen but Manning is now 9-10 in the postseason and he is in the last year of his contract and he looked PISSED tonight…......is he out of Indy next season???????
I doubt it. A lot of people are probably gonna call for Caldwell to get kicked out before Manning leaves. Indy really likes having him there, and the other teams that need quarterbacks are nowhere as good as the setup Indianapolis has for him right now. They need to get some young defensive players, though. Just like New Orleans needs to get some safeties and corners.
-
Initial Thoughts:
-No real shockers this week. The Chiefs "are who we THOUGHT they were!" and Matt Cassel reverted back to…..Matt Cassel. Early on it looked like they were dominating the Ravens through the run but that D is something to be feared. I like them against the Steelers next week, especially if Flaco plays like he did today.
-The Packers are the most talented 6 seed I have seen in a while. Aaron Rodgers combined with that D is very dangerous. Vick has had a great season and made progress as a passer but in the end he still has a lot to learn when going up against a decent blitz. The Eagles relied on the big play too much and the inability to run the ball and sustain long drives killed them. Also their D is just not good, Asante Samuel is a great ball-hog but is a pretty average cover corner. Anyway, If Green Bay can start running the ball like they did today then they might be the first 6 seed favored to win the Super Bowl.
-
So I go 1-3 for Wild card weekend. Yay.
I'm just glad the Chiefs got dismantled.
-
Somehow made it out even this weekend. Makes the choices a bit harder next go around.
-
Picks for this round, let's see if I can improve on the 1-3 I went last week.
Baltimore @ Pittsburgh
New York Jets @ New England
Green Bay @ Atlanta
Seattle @ Chicago -
Went 1-3 last week as well.
Baltimore @ Pittsburgh
New York Jets @ New England
Green Bay @ Atlanta
Seattle@ Chicago -
go 49ers!!!! oh wait :(
-
lol
Wallace throws a Ravens DB to the ground: PI on Baltimore
Steelers guard spears into the pile after the play: no flag
Ryan Clark hits his own teammate helmet-to-helmet: PI Ravens
Why am I not surprised?
-
That and the "holding" call that brought back the punt return. -_-
Good game despite all the terrible calls.
-
That and the "holding" call that brought back the punt return. -_-

This game was TERRIBLY officiated. The refs have to know what games to throw the flags on and what games to swallow the whistles. Ravens Steelers is a game that you can never call so closely. There was just about 4 times when offensive interference should have been called and it wasn't and that holding call was awful. Still the reason the Ravens lost is because there WRs choked
And by the way, is this the worst announced playoffs ever or what? Seahawks v Saints had probably the worst announcers I have ever heard. The Steelers game obviously had the league in his ear telling him to agree with every call the refs made. And know Troy Aikman just said that he would take Aaron Rodgers over any other QB if he was building a team. Really? Over Manning, Brady, Brees, and Rivers?? I can't figure out if he is just that stupid or is just trying to fill the dead air with something.
Also this is the third straight game that I have seen someone hold up a sign that says John 3:16 up every time someone kicks a field goal or an extra point…the person is in the same spot every time...Its kinda freaking me out
-
Well that was a bloody mess.
0-2 for the day. Damn.
Hopefully I do better tomorrow.
-
Rogers is younger than those other QBs. They'll be out of the league when he's still good. That is the entire point of the "building a team around a player" argument.

If you had a choice to build your team around the 27 year old Rodgers or the 29 year old Rivers, who would you pick?
-
Dammit Seattle, you're supposed to be trolling.
Look likes I may be going 1-3 again this week. -
If you had a choice to build your team around the 27 year old Rodgers or the 29 year old Rivers, who would you pick?
At this point I would probably pick Rodgers! Look at the playoffs numbers.
Rodgers: 77/105 (73.3%) 969 yds (9.23 ypa) 10 TDs 1 INT (129.4 qbr)
Rivers: 134/229 (58.5%) 1820 yds (7.95 ypa) 8 TDs 9 INTs (79.2 qbr)
Small sample size for sure, but I want a guy who will win when it matters.
-
So, Belichick didn't start Welker.
I guess he should have just put his foot in his mouth.
-
Oh, New England, will watching you lose ever get old?
-
No one can say anything. Give us the credit we DESERVE! The Jets deserved this, the D was great, we finally put pressure on Brady and Sanchez was limited and still made the big plays. Braylon was fantastic, Ellis was fantastic on D and Rex coached a hell of a great game and D.
-
As a Patriot fan this kills me to say but we were out coached and out played…..GOD DAMMIT THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
I hate both teams left in the AFC and I could care less about the two in the NFC....dammit...
-
Jets / Patriots was the best game of the weekend. Made me so happy.
Ended up 2-2 again. 2-0 in the NFC, 0-2 in the AFC, though.
-
Nah, the Ravens Steelers game was the best.
0-4 for the weekend. 1-7 for playoffs. Ouch. -
Yeah this weekend's games were pretty crappy on the whole.
Steelers/Ravens: best one, never seen such a dominant shift in momentum
Packers/Falcons: got out of hand quick, 2nd half was all GB
Bears/Seahawks: over before it began
Jets/Patriots: pretty close, but really sloppy -
Ohohohohoho! Being a Packers fan living in Chicago has been interesting the last two times they played.
But next week should be INSANE! Woo!
in other news, glad to see the patriots lose, because I have an admittedly unfounded dislike for them.
-
Rather boring NFC Championship game, and though I didn't care who won, I picked the Bears, so I'm 0-1 right now.
And, as everyone knows I hate the Jets, I picked the Steelers for this second game, so let's hope they can win. After all, I've only picked one game right this post-season >_>
-
Let's go Packurz. I want to see more sexy hip dances from Raji
-
Im 16 and ive watched every 16 game season since 2004 when i was 11 or 12, so im going pretty strong. Back to back AFC championship games with losses and both games we completely shut down in at least 1 half. Ive been so happy to see these teams and now im just in disgust because of the next 5 months of nothing, so you can imagine how shitty i feel. Its been so good to be a Jets fan, but thats what i rely on i feel just so terrible now. My inspiration is crushed once again. I ,live in fucking Miami with all these shitty fans and idiots who show no respect. Maybe its just football fans being fans but it sucks to have a bunch of fucking banwagoners talk shit about the team i grew up and truly love. The Jets deserve more respect then bullshit. Seriously we have a coach and a bunch of players who know they are better than your average teams, and every single idiot banwagoner jumps on this 1 team and insults. Whats wrong with these people. Fucking hell man, fuck Miami and fuck the banwagoners. The Jets are a great team and were gonna be, believe it. Jets deserved this.
-
Fucking Pittsburgh.
-
Jets deserved this.
You mean they deserved to lose without reaching the Super Bowl, after they spent all season telling the media nonstop that they were better than everyone and that they were going to win it all?
Yeah, I guess they did deserve that.
-
The Jets didn't look like the Jets that beat on New England. They looked like New Orleans did against Seattle. Mediocre enough to lose a game.
-

Yeah, I guess they did deserve that.
Is that all you can think about? Media hype? The Jets backed up everything they said, oh yea they lost a couple of games, sure who didnt. The Jets beat every team they had to get to where they needed to be. 1 Half of lousy football is of course going to be defined by people as they season in a media hyped nutshell. Jets are better, thats all there is to it.
-
Yeah but… they lost. They lost in the playoffs. They are not the best team.
-
Yea thats what i should expect as the answer.
-
Hero, I think you're confused. The Jets looked the same, it was the Patriots who didn't look like they normally did when they lost to the Jets.
Also, GO STEELERS!
I know, I know. "Akumu, how can you support them?" You must be asking.
Well, look at where I live.
DFW is of course, Cowboy country, and as I'm attending UNT for college, I'm still deep in the heart of it.
Today I got to listen to non stop bitching about the Steelers and how much everyone hates them ONLY because they have more rings than the Cowboys.
There has never been a more illegitimate reason to hate a team IMO.
I mean, by that train of thought, I should hate everyteam in the NFL since the Bolts still have 0 rings.
Then, since they were all rooting for the Jits (there was only person besides me pulling for the Steelers, and she's actually from Pittsburgh) when they lost and couldn't talk shot anymore I got to listen to a bunch of crap about how much the Chargers suck and how the Cowgirls are so great because they're "America's Team."There's nothing that I'd like to see more than all these sorry, can't-stop-living-in-the-past fans be pissed off at the Steelers proving they're a better team than the sorry Cowgirls.
So yeah, go Pittsburgh (though I honestly wouldn't care if Green Bay one.)
/Rant
Oh, btw:
J-E-T-S! SUCK! SUCK! SUCK!

If I remember right, Ryan hyped the team as "Soon to be Champs" before the season even started.
He painted a giant target on his back and then failed to deliver.
The media ate it up, creating a bunch of bandwagon fans, and now that they lost everyone is jumping ship.Oh, and btw, let it be stated that Mark Sanchez is not one of the best Quarterbacks in the league, and is in no way better than Romo or Rivers.
I'm sick of people treating Sanchez like he's Jesus. -
Why do you feel the need to end with the ignorant insult?
Ah fuck its just football fans were all ignorant.
Sorry chargers didnt even make the playoffs.
Jets wouldnt get the pleasure of beating them again like 04 and 09, oh well -.-Your a damn chargers fan. Thanks for reminding me of such a waste of space LT is and was in both the playoffs and ending of the season.
Really? Rivers cant seem to win in the playoffs, nor Romo. Sanchez got it done more than Rivers and Romo. Sure hes probably not yet better than either one of them skillwise but hes eventually gonna pass both, once that SB trophy is in our grasp/ BTW who ever even praised Sanchez?! Last time i recall Sanchez was the Jets anti-christ and hes the reason the Jets would lose. Sanchez took that shit and made it into some damn good play and the seasons end and in the playoffs, get it right.
-
I'm a longtime Jets fan.
And they earned this.
-
So much vitriol. Yikes.
Well, I'm cheering for the Packers in the Super Bowl. I don't really care for the Steeler's rapist QB.

In case you missed the past few years, the media has kissed the Chargers asses nonstop, and that didn't stop them from losing in the playoffs several years in a row. The lessons you take from this, from one long-suffering fan to another who is just getting used to the idea of being a playoff team is:
- it doesn't matter what you say to the media and what you hear from the media. when the time comes, you're gonna lose, and the more you talk the worse you look
- get used to it
- man up and accept your team's defeat
-

The Saints were better than the Seahawks all season, but that didn't change the fact that they lost. Atlanta was the best team in the NFC, got pounded by Green Bay. New England looked like a shoo-in for the Super Bowl, and they faltered and got beaten up by the Jets.
The Jets may have been a great team this season, but they didn't earn a Super Bowl appearance. You don't deserve, or earn, a Super Bowl until you get there and win. And they screwed up the chance they had to back up all their talk that they would be champs this year.
Edit: Sanchez is a good quarterback, on par with Matt Ryan, and starting to show promise. I don't think he'll be Brady, Manning, Brees, Rivers level for a while, but he has the potential to be there.
That's a compliment, by the way.
-
So glad that Jets didn't make it to the super bowl, I hate Ryan.
-
I know full well the media is always high on the Bolts.
- I know what you mean
- I never do until it all begins again
3)Isnt this the same as 2?
Fine im done, leave it at that then. Im rooting for GB, no fun in the Steelers winning another SB.
Jets season is done, so is probably all the people who talk about football here, it seems like everyones teams are done this season. Fine. stupid comments about hating Rex for being a fantastic coach with more soul and heart than most coaches is dumb, shut it.
Shit i keep remindingf myself its all opinion, my bad
-
Speaking of coaches, who wants Tom Cable to win "Coach of the Year", just to spite Al Davis?
-
Why do you feel the need to end with the ignorant insult?
Sorry about that, I just hate that chant, and I heard it a ton today as all the Cowboy fans are now bandwagon Jets fans. >_>
Ah fuck its just football fans were all ignorant.
Sorry chargers didnt even make the playoffs.
Jets wouldnt get the pleasure of beating them again like 04 and 09, oh well -.-Sorry you're team is just now realizing the cold truth of the playoffs: At the end of the day only one team wins, everyone else is a loser. The sooner you realize that the odds are never in your favor the better. It makes the disappointment hit a little less hard year after year.
Your a damn chargers fan. Thanks for reminding me of such a waste of space LT is and was in both the playoffs and ending of the season.
I do believe that Jets fans were really happy with LT at the beginning of the season. They were all still claiming that he still had it. Even though we Charger fans, who had been with him for years knew that he was truly out of gas. Get with the times.
Really, cause I'm sure the Chargers have won more play off games than the Jets. And I know for a fact that Sanchez is nowhere close to Romo, least of all Rivers. He will not pass either. Let's see what he can do without any of his starting receivers or his tight end. I'm sorry, but Sanchez will never be anything more than a good quarter back.
And all the Jets fans I know had a change of heart on him this year. They all hated him last season but loved him this season. Maybe it's different where you are, but that's how the Jets fans I know are.In case you missed the past few years, the media has kissed the Chargers asses nonstop, and that didn't stop them from losing in the playoffs several years in a row. The lessons you take from this, from one long-suffering fan to another who is just getting used to the idea of being a playoff team is:
Here's the difference, the media never gave up on the Jets this season.
The Media always stalls on the Bolts after they start 2-3, but start loving them again at the end of the season.
I was gonna say at least we don't suffer as much as Bills, Lions, and Browns fans do, but then I realized they don't suffer, because what happens is what they expect.
Le sigh. -
Speaking of coaches, who wants Tom Cable to win "Coach of the Year", just to spite Al Davis?
Worst owner in the NFL hands down. Followed, of course, by one Jerry Jones.
Not only does he get rid of Cable who just coached a sweep of the AFCW (granted they only won 2 games outside the division) and brought the Raiders to their first non-losing season (though 8-8 isn't any better) in forever, but he's letting Asmougha (or however you spell it) walk.
Any promise the Raiders showed is now gone.
-
Kinda reading through and feeling like an asshole, my bad.
Not to mention Al Davis is one ugly motha**** lol
-
I was gonna say at least we don't suffer as much as Bills, Lions, and Browns fans do, but then I realized they don't suffer, because what happens is what they expect.
Le sigh. It's better to get close and lose than to never get close at all. At least you can say you had reason to hope at all. Lions have been good for like 2 of the past 50 years, and the Browns have been irrelevant since the merger.
Though to be honest, nothing probably beats the Bills losing in four straight Super Bowls. Nobody here has any room to talk about suffering.
-

Don't worry, man!
It ain't football if we're not talking shit!
I swear, half of the fun of this sport, at least for me, is the fan interaction and how passionate people can be about their team. When somebody gets really worked up for their team, you know they really are a fan.
EDIT:
Good point Stephen. I'd definitely prefer to be a contender year in year out.
And yeah, Bills fans know what true suffering is.
I could not imagine what it must have been like for fans during that era. -
Poor poor Jim Kelly. Now theres a QB that deserved at least 1 ring
-
Well, Jets, you had an impressive run and did a great service to mankind by kicking out the Ravens and Patriots, but t'was not to be.
Though to be honest, nothing probably beats the Bills losing in four straight Super Bowls. Nobody here has any room to talk about suffering.
At the same time though, that's still one of the most impressive feats in sports history with that playoff run including the greatest comeback in NFL history. Poor Warren Moon; at least the franchise got its revenge with the Music City Miracle.
For the golden standard in futility, it's still hard to beat the Lions even if they were just mediocre this season and not Detroit-terrible. Look at all the First Round and Number One draft picks they've had over the past few years; how many of those guys are even still in football, let alone playing for Detroit?
