I seriously don't know why people keep on going on about Naruto and Sasuke in relation to this chapter. Ace is just p*d off with people after they start referring to him as the son of a devil (a father he never met), luffy just ended up intruding on his turf. Luffy being the younger kid would obviously start following the only other kid that he will be living with for god knows how long, it's like your younger brother following you around wherever you go when he is bored and has nothing else to do. Ace still made friends with the Sabo kid.
The Naruto and Sasuke relationship is different. Sasuke being an anti social bh, thought he was better than everyone else, didn't have any friends acknowledged people that were more powerful than him or when pawned him. Naruto was infatuated with being stronger than Sasuke and acknowledging him, then became infatuated with Sasuke himself, which was and still is borderline homosexual.[DrewMcIntyre]The parreh's over[/DrewMcIntyre]
I don't wanna sound like a Naruto fan in my first post, but the fact that it makes sense Ace is sad doesn't make Ace any less Emo

You know I love these chapters but DAMN I am so glad Oda went the route of having his main character prety much start out as a teen close to adulthood then a fucking preteen like so many other shounen out there .

ok clearly he WAS an emo but i think he obviously changed, why because he acknowledges White Beard as his real father, wouldn't that make everyone else on White Beards crew emo, or is it the fact he cried when all his best friends were fighting to the death to save him? or is there something else

from my understanding this 583 comes out in japan 5/10 or a week from today. ch. 584 comes out 5/17. We will get chapter based on mangastreams history for ch. 584 on 5/12, or a week from wednesday, or 9/10 days from now.

Anyway an ordinary flash back chapter, truth be told I expected some more mysticism in it, but basically what we have found out was, that Dadan is a "local nobody" which is a bit sad since it could add to already interesting OP world in general as for Sabo…well we'll see...
But so far a bit disapointed will say

Still, I recall that Franky was a bit of a dick in his childhood too so I'll definitely give this the benefit of a doubt that it could go somewhere other than where we all think it's going.

Very interesting that even Dadan calls Ace "The Son of the Devil". Furthermore, I didn't realize that anyone knew who Ace was besides Garp.
The panel where Ace has one eye open when Luffy comes back after being missing for a week is pretty funny. Ace must either be surprised Luffy didn't rat on him and/or didn't attack him.
Two things I took from this chapter was how big of a bastard Ace use to be and I mistakenly thought Dadan was a petty criminal but when she talks about making Luffy commit crimes such as murder, that tells me she is pretty hardcore.

Out of curiosity, what did you expect from Dadan? I think Garp was a fool to leave his grandkids with Dadan but he would have been an even bigger fool to leave them with a very well known pirate or outlaw.
For a flashback, I thought this chapter was excellent. Of course it is very predictable in a sense that we know Oda is showing us the event that forged the bond between Ace and Luffy.

Based on this chapter alone, Ace is nothing like Sasuke. There wasn't any point in this chapter where he sulked, lashed out at the world and plotted the destruction of the world. Ace doesn't trust anyone (except Sabo) and he just met Luffy, so he couldn't afford to have Luffy following him and of course when Luffy finally managed to follow him, look what happened.

While she says that, you can see Ace in another room listening to her and looking PO'ed.

I could see the bold happening. We may actually learn that Dadan is alot more powerful then she looks. At this point, neither Ace, Luffy or Sabo are a match for the Bluejam Pirates.

No, Ace has been a douchebag during the flashback. Has nothing to do with anybody 'hating' on his character. He has acted like a complete punk throughout the course of the flashback.
Honestly, I think one of the main themes Oda wants the readers to come away with from these flashbacks is how mean and hateful Ace was before he met Luffy. Again, it is what Mihawk stated about Luffy, that he has the dangerous ability to forge strong friendships.
I agree with you about Garp telling Ace who his father was. Maybe Garp didn't want Ace to resent him for not telling him who his father ones. Honestly, at the end of the day, every child has the right to know who their mother and father was.

or if say someone says something completely stupid like when mihawk's attack is blocked by joz or other events and they are saying how weak he is, and if you use logic and point out their flawed judgement you are somehow a mihawk fan.
if you don't bash a character with other stupid bashers, you somehow are consdiered a fanboy. its impossble to deal with people like that. especially when it comes to ace. someone says something just retarded and you point it out, they call you a stupid fanboy, and if you retaliate to them, then they post that picture adn think "omg i'm so funny, i won"

Guess it's just me, the basic connection I made was that Ace is by himself with no family, a friendly strapping cheery young lad even wants to be friends with him! But alas he just gives him the cold shoulder. This other young fellow (who may or may not be the protagonist of our fair story) is also rather strong! But of course our dark haired character in shorts renown for being whiney comes across as being much stronger.
Srsly though, I'm aware that Ace clearly has made friends and shows happiness at the thought of achieving his ambition. Doesn't mean that comparisons can't be made though.

ace had no family evereveryone hated naruto due to his 9-tail's and wanted him dead
everyone talks about how roger's kid shouldn't be alivenaruto got friends and has many friends
ace got friends and has many firendsnaruto chases around his butt buddy to save him
ace chases blackbeard to kill him for breaking the most important rulenaruto has an entire village that loves him
ace has all of whitebeard and his allies that come to save him and love himsasuke is totally different, he grew up with a loving family, they were all killed by his brother and he then shut out everyone in his life and spent it trying to kill his brother then get revenge on the village. everyone but naruto hates sasuke. ace is nothing like that at all.
but these are totally different manga, and comparisons are stupid. you can slightly word most anythign to make someone be comparable to another.

Why are so many people saying Ace is emo. I'Ve seen him being emo in the series. Seriously being sad doesn'T alway have to meant your emo. People are just using the word so they can feel cool, it seems.

Yeah you're right actually. I just went through a session of comparing Vegeta to my left foot and found an astounding number of similarities once I got abstract enough. I guess comparisons as you said can be stupid but can also be kinda fun once you start realising that your toenail clippings stacked can resemble saiyan hair.
