You know what the past 2 or 3 chapters has felt like to me? Like a gigantic balloon has just continued to keep filling up, and we all know what happens when a balloon goes past its limit BOOM! I think that Shanks was trying to prevent that, so this last chapter felt like that balloon just let out all of its air and the stress between everyone was leviated (sp?).
saving face means something like keeping their dignity, being the bigger man, or something like that, since losing face means being humiliated and/or embarrassed.
Thanks, now I get it.^^
Knowing that it is a dumb and anticlimatic way to end all of this. :(

A true hero.
But that's just a picture of Moria, wheres the hero, is he behind Moria's fat ass?
@robbybedfart:
Cover story with Coby, Helmeppo and Tashigi. Interesting. But the rest… uhm.
Wait. So.
If Whitebeard had just showed up with Shanks by his side, the government would have just gone "Oh. Well. Screw taking that on. We're done."
"Oh well, Luffy managed to escape despite our relentless efforts the last 10 or so chapters. I guess we're done now. Remaining whitebeard pirates, you can leave. Blackbeard, you're free to go too."
This just feels... REALLY incredibly anti-climactic. Especially when the top marine forces, the admirals, Sengoku and Garp, are all pretty much still in great shape. (Well, maybe not Aikanu so much at this point.) Yeah the fodder is falling left and right, but... after all those chapters of trying to wipe everyone out while they escape and all...
Also a bit dissapointed that after holding off on showing Hancock for like 8 chapters, THAT'S what she's been up to. It does take care of her meeting up with Luffy again, but... and the strawhat was returned a bit easily, seems almost pointless to have lost it in the first place. And Law was the only supernova to show up, and... stuff.
There were good things. Buggy/Shanks interaction. Mihawk not wanting to war on Shanks. But... anti-climax is anti-climactic. I guess Oda wanted to be done and move on, and progressing any further would force the issue of killing some more key players.
Well, theres still next week for REAL follow up and resolution on all of this. but... bleh.
You are right, but I think that in this case the fact that they cant take on another yonkou crew and BBs makes sense.
@Herr:

No, this is him.

Here.
Sorry, I can't seem to see it.
Blackbeard "Its still much too early for our battle to happen"
Possible foreshadowing for a battle in the future perhaps?
I am already predicting that Blackbeard is going to eventually kill Shanks.
This would serve as a way to rid the story of an uncomfortable fight between Luffy and Shanks, which would happen eventually.

I'm really not sure what the Pirates would have done if Shanks and Whitebeard would've shown up together at Marineford.
The World Government knows that Shanks and Whitebeard met so maybe Sengoku was prepared for a Whitebeard/Shanks Alliance.
However, the Military would have been in trouble because Sengoku would not have been able to anticipate Blackbeard arriving.

I also found the ending antic-limactic, but I guess at this point in the war, everyone just wanted the war to end.
The Marines already killed Ace and WB, who were the main targets. Killing the WB pirates was just a second priority; even if the latter survived, without WB they're not much of a threat. I guess Sengoku figures that without WB, the crew will go it's separate ways, and will be a much less of a threat than they were before. At that point, killing them now may not be worth it at the cost of the lives of their "elite" troops, as well as their own.
Giving up on BB was just surprising. But I guess if the marines had to face WB pirates, Shanks, and BB, the marines knew they'd get owned. At this point, they just had to deal with it. Going suicide against everyone, when you have no chance of winning, is just stupid. It's better that they regrouped now and faced each threat later.
Actually, I don't believe it was a tattoo, just a headband.
!
Best Pic I could find, and even it's pretty bad…
In the past, he had a bandanna with his name. In the present time, he has it tattooed on his Forehead.
http://i44.tinypic.com/wvsmxl.png
No, this is him.
is he hinding behind Moria, because i still can't see him
Finally the war is over, it was about time to. Even the last chapters have been incredible I've missed rest of the H's and now that Luffy will get back to SA they'll surely unite soon (still hopes to see how Nami, Robin co. will get themselves back to the SA!). And finally some more Hancock! And Shanks Buggy re-union :D
Once again, even war/ID arc has been a lot more dramatic Buggy is the one who makes me laugh. I really want to know how WG will react on Buggy's "actions" during the war. And I wonder if other SH's than Luffy will get their bounties raised - personally I think this would be perfect time to WG raise their bounties for what happened in Thriller bark (in other words, perfect time to cover Morias loss and still increase SH crews bounty)
Anyway, lovely chapter! Thank you for translating <3
He means Moria is the hero… The only Shichibukai who got a falconed punch
Shanks is truly an interesting character and i'd like to know how he became a yonkou and if he has any connections with the WG
Edit: I'm sure shanks could defeat miwhawk but now they are on equal footing since his original sword fighting arm was well eaten and he had to get used to fighting with his right arm. And even though it is an anime a person would have difficulty fighting with 1 hand and 1 hand only againsst someone like mihawk.
All in all shanks could have beaten miwhawk but they kept in confidential (what i think) that or they are equal in terms of fighting prowess
Please show me where it said Shanks defeated Mihawk even when he had two hands??? They are equal and Mihawk doesn't fight the handicap. Which is why he left.
With the chapter out I can safely say that Shanks >>> Mihawk, Mihawk w/ the lines over his eyes was troubled Shanks was there, and wanted no part in fighting him, which leads me to believe that Shanks is far stronger than Mihawk now
He never wanted to fight Shanks becuase he is one arm. Their rivalary stop when Sjanks loss his arm.
Nothing ever has stated in this chapter that Shanks > Mihawk

Never heard of paint, havent' you?

good chapter i guess got to see more of shanks nakama

Knowing that it is a dumb and anticlimatic way to end all of this. :(
That's what Oda probably wanted, a sudden closure in this arc, to make an impact on everyone. I liked it. He created a proper cliffhanger, especially with next week's break.
speaking of the shichibukai:
so that basically leaves:
I think the WG needs to plan a new Schibukai-like force. Especially since the current one failed pretty badly, and with WB having died….
Short history of Yasopp's bandana/tatoo appearances–
Luffy's flashback: bandanna on his forehead
Daddy's flashback/anime filler: short dreads + head tatoo
Short dreads period (snow island when Rockstar met WB): head tatoo
Shanks meets WB: no head tatoo, armband with YASO
Arrives at Marineford: tatoo in place of armband.
Of course, this is a mix of the anime and manga, so things could change again when this gets animated. But if you see any of the previous openings (like where my sig is from), he no longer has a tatoo of his name on his forehead.
His greatness blinds you.
Oh i get it now! Moria must of eaten this "hero" he is talking about, and he is now working his way thorugh Moria's colon, yes a he is a true hero to brave such a horrible journey
Seein Shanks and Buggy talking again is great. I hope Buggy gets in the New World somehow. The fat guy with Shanks look very big, wasn't like that the last time we saw him. Just great chapter. Mihawk is awesome. I wonder who Crocodile will go with. Akainu looks pissed, I wonder if he has the guts to fight Shanks, even at full strenght.
Btw, on the last page with the mariford shown and boats, do you think he drew that on an A4 paper? it just looks so detailed. I don't know the size of Shonen Jump, if it's the same as the volumes, but it looks awesome.
does anyone think the others in shanks crew are important or just the ones we've seen before
Is Boa going after Luffy to make sure he is safe or?
does anyone think the others in shanks crew are important or just the ones we've seen before
The ones we've seen are probably the most important, but then again, he just fought Kaidou, so some important people may have stayed behind, and are still fighting Kaidou.
@baby-boo:
Is Boa going after Luffy to make sure he is safe or?
16characters of yes
I didn't like this chapter. The ending to this arc was forced to me. What the chapter did was ensure a certain status quo, one that was said to have been or will be broken. In the end a lot did happen but this chapter made it like they didn't matter that much. Ace and WB deaths didn't amount to much in the end if they would drop the issue so easily. This to me was an unsatisfying conclusion to the war. But I look forward to the future, and hope that those arcs end in a more satisfying way.
The only way I can explain is to make an analogy. Say you wanted an X-Box 360 for Christmas and you look under the tree and see a package that looks like it would be a box to the console, and when you shake it, it sounds like a 360. But come Christmas morning you open it, and you find out it's a Wii.
I couldn't help but feel this chapter was a bit anti-climatic. Having built up the chaos last chapter and then just break it at that? I understand the war had run it's natural course by now, but I didn't think it'd end abruptedly just like that. There should've been a chapter or two just to tone it down before abandoning it completely.
On another note, anybody has any predictions for next week. Should the Straw Hats return and cheer up Luffy, or would that lessen the impact of them shattering in the first place? Or is it time for the dreaded time skip first, with a few images of the world changing? Perhaps a flash back revealing Dadan? Maybe some info on what happened to Impel Down, Mr.2 and Magellan?
And where the hell is San Juan Wolf!!?
Akainu looks pissed, I wonder if he has the guts to fight Shanks, even at full strenght.
Why wouldnt he, he's been tangeling with Whitebeard who is even more powerful.
Unless he's got some phobia for gingers i dont see anything holding him of but a command decision by Sengoku.
Man. The Giants epically failed in this war. The bigger they are the harder they fall..rang very true in this case.
we had so many orgasmic chapters that i guess oda couldn't cme up with a better way to finish this. personally, if this arc ended with a cliffhanger of the wb pirates fleeing with luffy, and bb using his new df's powers, then i would've been fine with that. oda could've always just came up with a better ending later, and done a flash back to breifly show the ending. but oh well, arc is done, we can finally move on to better things.
I gotta agree, it was a bit anticlimactic indeed. What happened to the gun pointed at Kizaru? He told him to freeze but Kizaru attacked the sub anyways, and they didn't stop him. The Admirals did their darndest to destroy the sub even with shanks and crew there.
Well, I'm glad this arc is over…BB is going to eventually fight Shanks, he said so himself in this chapter...to early for a fight between them eh? hmm

In his Prime WB might've been stronger, heck, he is hella strong. There is no proof that Shanks isn't as strong is stronger though.
Great chapter. Shanks crew look awesome in that spread, liking the way they all look a little different. The guy with the monkey wasn't taller than benn beckman before the time skip.

Not quite. For about 40 chapters now, the Marines have been fighting the forces and allies of one Yonkou, and now another shows up? Not good odds.
Also, why they let Blackbeard go by is because it's still a stand-off. Someone attacks him, and the whole place may light up, and the battle continues. I also think Blackbeard and Sengoku knew that.
Yay, diplomacy!
Though were the marines seriously considering putting Edward and Ace's heads on pikes? Jesus.

WB said it himself, even with only 1 arm, Shanks didn't get any weaker. And judging by the way Shanks acted with everyone this chapter, I think he might just be the new strongest pirate in the world. Even BB was like 'oh shit, yeah im leaving >.> we'll fight later, zehahaha…ha <.<;;'
Akainu may be strong, but I doubt he can take on Shanks. WB was already old, dying, and emotionally unstable after Ace died. If WB was of sound mind, Akainu wouldn't have been able to land those punches on WB.
What happened to the gun pointed at Kizaru? He told him to freeze but Kizaru attacked the sub anyways, and they didn't stop him.
What you didnt think him putting his hands up was meant seriously did you?
In his Prime WB might've been stronger, heck, he is hella strong. There is no proof that Shanks isn't as strong is stronger though.
He isnt as strong, if he was Whitebeard wouldnt have been the worlds strongest man.
But sure Shanks might have been second in line, and now that Whitebeard is dead he's gotten the title. But i doubt it.

going to see the crew next time, yeahaaa yeahaaa yeahaaa, after 1 and a half years, finally

I didn't know Tamberlane joined the Marines.
Like Luffy turning emo?
luffy didn't go emo, he just collapsed mentally. all that fatigue + his brother dying is enough to make anyone break down.
But whatever else happens, I'm just happy the Jack Sparrow with living Flail commander survived.
The climax of the War were the 2 main people involved dying Ace and White Beard. The way things ended here it makes total sense to me. We've seen all the major death and destruction, this is how it winds down in a way that there are still major surprises and enemies for the Straw Hats to deal with later on in the story. Also a new mystery was set up between Sengoku and Shanks along with the absolute confirmation that the battle hair, Red VS Black will happen.
Those wondering why Kizaru couldn't just light beam away from Ben if he wanted to las chapter, well there you go he did, and apparently too fast for Ben at that moment.
Shanks crew looks awesome, that guy towards the back right looks like a vicious lion man. Wonder if shanks lost any mates over the last 10 years, sure looks like it, but then many of em could just be on the boat.
luffy didn't go emo, he just collapsed mentally. all that fatigue + his brother dying is enough to make anyone break down.
He collapsed mentally, he went Emo.

Yeah I know, but I think after he finally wakes up he's going to be ultra depressed there for a while. Hopefully not too long though.

fail
luffy will still be the same optimistic character he's always been
@S.C.:
But whatever else happens, I'm just happy the Jack Sparrow with living Flail commander survived.
Did Commander Popeye make it?
@choperman:
luffy will still be the same optimistic character he's always been
Only with emotional scars and a possible grudge against Akainu.
The question wasnt could he beat him tho, it was would he DARE to take him on.
Why would you dare to take on someone who's:
A) Already one of the strongets pirates around
B) Has a bunch of strong crew members to back him up
C) Is at full strength, while you just got owned by a dying old man
D) Has H-Haki, and actually uses it in battle?
I mean sure, Akainu could've attacked Shanks, but why bother? He's clearly at a great disadvantage, and although Akainu is a douche bag and a hot head, I doubt he's dumb enough to dare to pick a fight with someone when he knows he would probably lose. There's no point in fighting when your side already wants to give up and end the war.
