@KiShiDo:
Yet again DSC… I know what you mean... But after this war, when WB is dead and Luffy sails further with his crew. Do you think Ace should still be a pawn and not be the man his beloved father wanted hi to be... The pirate king? It would be a degrace when WB dies and Ace still doesn't want to be the man WB wanted to make him.
It is time for him to be a character a bit like Luffy, not exxactly who will have the willpower. or should he just sail the sea after this for nothing.
He once wasn't a WB crewmate and I bet he had the dream to be the PK and he was full of himself.
Is said it back... I just find after being freed it would be the perfect time for him to evolve as character.
Maybe WB will tell him something next week which will give him the willpower... Maybe some good words about Roger and that he has to live for his full potential and for the dream of WB and and not waste all what have been done for him.
Oh, I would like to see Ace grow to value himself and his own dreams but not within a couple of chapters in the middle of a war. It took Zoro four hundred chapters to go from “get in the way of my dream and I’ll kill you” to being prepared to give everything up for his captain. When development comes from nowhere, it’s contrived and unbelievable. I’d prefer Ace evolve gradually. He’s already had a lot of development these past two arcs, but he’s got a long way to go.
That said, I don’t want to see him become a clichéd rival figure or Luffy 2.0. I’d prefer if his dream was simply to have a legacy as great as Whitebeard’s, something of his own, rather than to achieve something his father already did. If Whitebeard’s influence dies in this war, all the order he’s maintained in the New World will fall apart. Many places like Fishmen Island will no longer have WB’s name to rely on and the crew itself will need a lot of recovery time and something to unify them again.
Besides, after all this, wouldn’t it be a waste for Ace to get beaten by his little brother right near the end? I can’t see Oda doing something like that when there are far more imposing and darker antagonists like Blackbeard, Kaidou and Doflamingo on the horizon.
@juju14:
He didn't want his bro and crew to die. Luffy is a freaking idiot though. I think Ace is just has confident has Luffy, but luffy is more narrow minded because he doesn't use logic.
Yeah but Ace's solution is to die in their place whereas Luffy refuses to die, time and time again because he needs to defeat the threat, to achieve his aims. He's much more driven, much more abitious and his narrow-minded focus is as much a virtue as it is a flaw. Whereas Marco and Joz are downed because of distractions, Luffy keeps pushing forward and out of all the legends, giants and legions, it's Luffy who reaches Ace.
Ace is not 'worse' than Luffy. He's as loyal (perhaps more so) and he's incredibly empathetic. He's no where near as selfish as his little brother… but he's not as determined or as self-confident.
