Its isnt just about the material your weapon is made of. It is about how u use it. Croc's hook maybe even weaker than Steel, but Croc's dog was injured, he got crazy and he is fghting on full strength.

possibly, thats just the thing about one piece that is kind of annoying right now.
there are just too many things that are not fully explained yet that it keeps it confusing. between the breath and haki, I feel its just best to enjoy whats happening right now and wait till its fully explained and then look back at all these chapters and read it with knowing the knowledge of it all.
GAH!!!!!!!!!!!! Great chapter, especially after the three week break.
I just want to have my obligatory Hancock fangasm first. She looked so badass looking down on Sentoumaru caressing her snake then she says that line XD Perfect mixture of badassedry and comedy.
All these fun characters popping up like Inazuma and Crocodile (delicously ironic how one of the prime villains ended up saving Luffy) and ending off with a square off against Garp. Oda has three ways to go about this now, he can have someone bail Luffy, Garp can betray the Marines and let Luffy pass or Garp can betray the Marines and fight Sengoku. The latter option is the easiest way to resolve the Sengoku issue but I don't think Oda would do it because it'd be too easy. Or Oda can once again do something I totally wouldn't expect XD
What concerns Haoh-Shoku Haki, I think I like how the concept looks so far: a strong Ambition might be inherited, but it can be activated then and only then when the person who has inherited it has an equal ambition, an equal dream for himself - not only a wish, but a strong and mature dream. And with such a base the dormant power comes into play. And this is slowly happening to Luffy.
So the Chosen One routine can't be applied here, can it.
Word man, totally summarizes my feelings on the issue. The Haki being inherited thing annoyed me at first because it betrays the theme of hard work One Piece has which Naruto has totally ravaged long ago but now thinking about the possibilities, it actually is an incredibly clever way to handle the issue. I mean if all people needed to get Haoushoku is be Luffy level determined, it would kinda undermine its rarity as being something only one in a million can have and would be kinda dumb because its hard to believe that sao few people could have such high aspirations. It being solely bloodline is equally lame. However being a bit of both changes everything to something cool and totally not betraying the theme of the series. Having Haosuhoku IS a random genetic thing however you do not inherit the ability but you inherit the POTENTIAL to have the ability. To activate it you need to have ambition and experience(acquried only through a lot of hard work) to be able to match its high standards. That way it's not a chosen one deal because Luffy having it becomes as random as Luffy just having to ahve eaten a Devil Fruit. He sitll ahs to wrok hard to work with both.
So this whole time inazuma has been hiding in iva-san's hair i'm surprised he didn't fall out
As much of a Croc fanboy as I am, I think it's a bit too much to get into material for weapons and what not at this point–sure, it could totally be the case, but I really just look at it as Croc appearing out of nowhere and parrying the slash.
Whatever it's made of, I'd say if it can constanly endure the second hook's stone-melting poison all the time, it's pretty durable.
@El:
Garp has two choices: to fight Luffy and lose two grandsons, or fake defeat and lose his title.
Well, Garp has been on the fence (emotionally) this whole time. There's also the line from Sengoku about Garp doing something foolish, so while I don't expect him to betray the Marines completely, it is possible he might allow Luffy to pass one way or another. Like you suggest, not going all out and "faking" defeat in a way, or simply going easy on Luffy and allowing him an opportunity to get beyond him. Edit: lol, or he could fall asleep… Luffy's key is bound to play a part in this eventually, so he should make it to the top. Who knows though…
Garp: "I have no pity for villains, but what am I supposed to do!? Family is different…"
Sengoku: "Garp, you better not do something foolish!!"
Garp: "If I could have done something, I would have…"
@Steven:
Looks like I didn't screw much up, but many thanks to Aohige.
Oh, hey, I didn't know you were in LA as well…!!
Oh, hey, I didn't know you were in LA as well…!!
Yep! Enjoying the weather and smog when I can.
But it rained today…
I think the fight Luffy vs Garp won't happen, they wouldn't fight each other…
A rock-scissors-paper game is gonna decide the matter between Luffy and Garp!
I swear if Garp fails then Sengoku is gonna do something drastic like actually try to kill both luffy and Ace . Squad or Buggy has to show up to even this out .
Or garp punches luffy back to shabondy with his legendary power. do want

What irks me, and what makes it different from the Devil Fruit business is that Luffy's is clearly TEH BEST OF ALL AND ONE IN A BILLION, while his fruit is just another one of the bunch. I mean it's so emphasized that the absolute top pirates of the story (Whitebeard, Shanks, and I'm willing to bet Roger) just happen to have it. I frankly don't like where this willbition stuff is going too much.
well i just hope thanks to grap and luffy fight we get some flashbacks about luffy or maybe find out who hell dadan is .

Luffy is a D he was going to be special no matter what .
Sunny day here. =D
Luffy vs. Garp, seems rather hard from a story point angle. Why would everybody just sit around and watch when they've been ordered to protect Luffy? :(
But it rained today…
I went to bed at about four in the morning and slept in up until that post…I see what you mean.
Yay Croc. I figure Moria and Dofla are playing poker somewhere.

I think the verb "born" really destabilized the people here.
It's rare because only 1 in a million actually have the disposition to seek out their dreams and squash their opposition with such vigour.
If a parent is extremely headstrong it is very possible that his son inherit that trait, but it is ultimately the personality that deems whether or not a person can have the Haoshoku. It is not a trait in itself.
What I mean is, that you can inherit the traits that would enable you to achieve such a disposition, but you aren't born with that trait outright.
More probably than not, Garp saw evidence of such potential in Luffy's formative years.
The other possibility is that the strength and ambition of a parent can somehow be passed on through generations, and thus the will of D. always turns out people with great strength and aspirations, as well as a strongly rebellious nature. Thus, if Garp knew his son's colour, then he could have easily suspected that Luffy could potentially inherit it.
But the fact that Boa Shanks and Rayleigh aren't Ds means it's unlikely that it's a genetic trait outright, the color of one's haki.
God dammit. Where the hell is Blackbeard? It's looking more and more like Ace might live, which would suck. However, except MAYBE Sengoku, I can't see anyone here be the one to stop Luffy from saving Ace. Fuck, I hope Blackbeard atleast shows up.

I dunno about that. It makes sense for someone to have King's Haki to be at the top. To be able to use it simply means that that person had it in him all along to be at the top and its an extra tool that pops up if they're lucky enough to have it AND have the ambition and character traits to be the best in the first place.
Put in other words, they're not at the top because of their King Haki, they have the King Haki because they're at the top.

Blackbeard doesn't have a reason to kill Ace anyway. He's probably only interested in taking Whitebeard's head. I suppose he could try to take down Ace too for a hat-trick but the way his conservation with Luffy ended like he has a chance to save Ace made it seem like he wasn't particularly interested in its outcome. If Luffy frees Ace, there's a pretty slim chance that Ace will die. I mean it would really suck for Ace to be killed in battle after all the death-defying punishment most characters go through in this series.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH.
Awesome chapter as usual. Did we know Doberman's name before this chapter? Everyone's helping Luffy get to the platform. Finally Inazuma appears again for the final rush. Kizaru rushes Whitebeard, I wonder what's going to happen with that? Garp finally steps up to the plate, keeping one of his grandsons from saving the other. I hope he doesn't have a DF but he probably does. Is there a break after this one or is it next week?

Yes, Kizaru was actually rushing Luffy, and yes.
That last one didn't answer my question . So Kizaru was trying to get Luffy but Whitebeard stepped in the way? Wonder if he'll be able to stop Kizaru.

You did mean, White Beard rushes Kizaru right? I'm wondering if I looked at the pictures wrong.
What ever the case, Kizaru got a huge slashing. Either that or he was hit with the rod end of the WB weapon. What ever the case, I can't wait to see the out come of that hit. Even though it looks like he dissolved away from it, he must have gotten hit or he would have intercepted Luffy before Garp made it.

I totally get what you two are saying. It's what preventing me from being downright dissappointed at thematic betrayal instead of just mildly irked. Really no matter what I think Garp saying "born" is kind of pushing it.
Luffy is a D he was going to be special no matter what.
Yes, he was going to be special, but just because of his ambitious personality. The theme we're dealing with is "inherited will". When you say he was born with a specific color of ambition of the chosen ones is when I start getting a little worried.
I just hope the anime shows us Croc kicking Donflamingo's and all the people with which he fought (including fodders) butt. So many things that have been happening but we only get to see Luffy. The anime has a lot to cover.
though a good chapter don't people find it weird that the shichbukai keep dissappearing and what are the other admirals doing ajoki and akani just watching as luffy runs wild?
I know I'm just a fanboy here, but having Inazuma pop out of Ivankov's wig is one of my favorite moments in recent One Piece history. I'm very happy right now.
HOWEVER, I was expecting some Garp action, as they've been hinting at it for three chapters now. Can it start already?
@Kairouseki:
That last one didn't answer my question.
Sorry, I should have been more clear. Yes, we have known Doberman's name for a long time. Kizaru was actually rushing Luffy, and Whitebeard stopped him. No, there is no break, there is a chapter next week.

It's weird, Garp is easily one of my favorite characters in the series, and yet I never really get excited about seeing him in action. I mean, I love it when he does, but I'm never really anticipating more involvement from him. Odd. This has nothing to do with anything though, so…move along, move along.

You've brought up an excellent point! The anime has a lot to work with here, I personally hope they cover all the inbetween's of these fights, like why each battle stopped and where each battle begins, etc. That not only can make for good filler, but also decent action.
I just hope they don't use something stupid like random cannonfire breaking things up all the time. Be more creative anime team!
I also look forward to the G8's filler battle. Considering even the greatest (well, except Garp) of the Vice Admirals have fallen here, he should be no exception canon or otherwise.
what are the other admirals doing ajoki and akani just watching as luffy runs wild?
I don't know who these Ajoki and Akani guys are, but they sound like swell folks.
i miss moria
LOL @ aohige

Let's hope the filler material doesn't suck:/
Probably there's a ton of stuff that Oda wanted to do but couldn't due to time constraints and he left it to the anime to do it.

Vista beating Mihawk comes to mind. Oda didn't show it.
so is there no chapter next week? Has that been confirmed
Maybe in the anime they can use some of the new world pirates to keep some Shichibukai busy, preferably ones that are shown (at least in the background) during the first appearance of Moby Dick but never again in the front lines in the chapters after to avoid conflict.
Moria could be collecting corpses and shadows on the side as he makes his way to maybe capture Oars. Donflamingo enjoying a little puppet fights, and the fight with Crocodile ends with Crocodile leaving to help…etc
I'm sure even without clear explanation in the manga or anime we can formulate reasonable excuses for the beginning and ending of battles in this war. Oda is just trying to move the main story forward quickly and only teases us with some 'screentime' of our favorite characters. I personally don't want to see these character's full ability and explanations of what they do just yet because their current roles are merely pieces in a game of chess.

For us? Yes, we get a chapter next week.
For you? No, sorry, you're outta luck.

I thought Oda was taking yet another break.

Aokiji was knocked away from the execution platform and injured by Joz; he's still dealing with freezing him; meanwhile, (as best as i can figure), Akainu is engaged with Shirohige.
The only people unaccounted for right now is Doflamingo (presumbly, he was supposed to be engaged with Crocodile, but Crocodile is now engaged with Mihawk) and the REAL Kuma. We haven't seen Jimbei in a while, so I'd guess that Jimbei is engaged against the Real Kuma, but I don't have a clue where Doflamingo is right now…
If this was a much darker Manga, I'd half expect him to pop up just as Luffy gets to Ace and cut off Ace's head himself... but yeah, this is Oda. There's no way in hell that'd ever happen.

Jimbei was in this chapter. He was guarding Whitebeard's back.
Wow. What a chapter to start back on. It certainly got me feeling pumped and even more excited! I didn't expect Daz Bones to pop up and Crocodile was quick to defend his faithful crewmate.
And then Inazuma popping out of Ivankov's hair. Genious! I was wondering where he was….and now Luffy is right there in front of his brother. All that's left is to get by his Grandfather. WOW. What a family reunion....
Grap, Ajoki, and Akani…hahaha.
Are those the rumored Yonukos?
Doma is one of the more interesting New World pirates can't wait till we get to the New World
I was wondering why that last page was giving me a sense of deja vu, and it's 'cause Magellan pulled much the same thing on Luffy that Garp did, falling out of nowhere like that. I wonder if Sengoku's decided to roll up that other sleeve yet… Must be breezy up there, what with all the explosions and stuff.
Grap, Ajoki, and Akani…hahaha.
What makes it even funnier is, Akani and Ajoki are both real Nigerian names.
Pretty kick ass chapter if I say so myself. I can't wait until this arc is animated!! Its going to be bad ass seeing all of the action! I wanna see Oars Jr.'s leg getting chopped off! HAHAHA!

I don't watch the anime much, but hopefully all these bigger name characters will get their off-screen fights in the anime as "filler", since most of the episodes are just action!! action!! action!! Either way, so long as they don't have 10 minutes of screen panning and recycled CHARRRGE!! scenes it should be pretty good.

This is what I got when I put 'Ajoki' into Google Images:
