get the hell away from my parade, Crosswort
New official Viz media topic V2.

-
It makes my heart feel good that One Piece is getting the treatment it deserves…When something you feel very passionatly about and fought hard for is fulfilled, it feels great...Glad to know that SJ and Viz were listening to my daily letters.
-
Descriptions for up to Vol. 48 have been added to Viz's site. Don't appear to be any new name changes, though a few of the volume titles have been worded differently than from what appears on the wikia:
Struggle -> Scramble (Vol. 39)
We Understand How You Feel -> You Have My Sympathies (Vol. 45) (Much nicer in my opinion)
Cloudy with a Chance of Bones -> Cloudy, Partly Bony (Vol. 47)They also make reference to something of Oars's called ''Continent Creation.'' I guess they're making a metaphor for his legendary strength, but they make it sound like an attack or something. Unless that's an amusing new name for his Gomu Gomu no Shirimochi ''technique''.
Oh, and the box covers for the East Blue omnibus Vols. 1-3 are up too.
-
Are they actually calling him Oars?
-
Nope, it's still Oz.
-
Vol. 45 does sound much nicer. It will be halfway through 2010 when America will finally be out of the Alabasta arc.
-
Are they actually calling him Oars?
No, I believe they are calling him Oz. I think that's what I saw in the December SJ.

I know, and I can't bloody WAIT.
-
so is the omnibus release going to be like the big viz, just one book

No one no's but if I had to guess I would say it is going to be a box with the Volumes inside or a big book, which is what I am not hoping for sense it would look weird with the rest of the regular volumes.

When was the last time Yusuke was on the cover?
I'm not talking about a whole cover as that's probably not happened since the first year or so of the magazine, but when the last time he appeared on it in any role?
-
there going with Sniperking instead of Sogeking

The official site has every cover since Issue 1.
http://shonenjump.viz.com/whatisjump/issues.php?id=28
He's on the cover for Issue 28 but for no particular reason other then DBZ leaving the magazine.
-

Well, that is the proper translation. It's like translating Shirohige into Whitebeard.
-
They probably don't even know that Oars has received an official romanisation.
Someone who's not me should email them.
-
Well, that is the proper translation. It's like translating Shirohige into Whitebeard.
Not really. Shirohige actually translates to Whitebeard while Sogekingu doesn't translate to Sniperking. Sogeking is a combination of a Japanese word 狙撃 (Sogeki) and the English word King. So VIZ just ignored the pun and did their own thing with it.
-
I would have preferred Sogeking. Was Sniperking in the January issue or something?
-
-
So VIZ just ignored the pun and did their own thing with it.
A pun like that is near impossible to translate. What would you rather they call him?
-
So I just got my issue.
Gear Three?
-
Are you cereal? I wonder if the the people who debated the order of words in Gear Second will come running.
-
…please tell me you're joking.
-
Are you cereal? I wonder if the the people who debated the order of words in Gear Second will come running.
…Too late. They're busy lurking and screaming in rage.
-
This again?
-
And so starts the long never forgettable fan raging.
-
They'd've found out anyway, and besides, I'm the one that reported it this time.
Let's hear your screams, weeaboos.
-
I really don't care. But why not third? That's what I don't get. I get changing Sogeking to Snipe King or whatever, but that was a Japanese word.
Third was English last time I checked.
But it's NOT a huge deal when you think about it.
-
I just want to also mention on Viz's One Piece website, they spelled Franky as Frankie on their main page.
-
^^^Now that isn't anything to get worked up about. It's like spelling Brook as "Brooke."
-
they spell it as franky in all the volume preview's though so i think the'll keep it as that.
-
I don't really care about the Franky or Brook spellings that much. Since its basically the same name. Now if Viz was using the name Flanky (from that PS2 game) then we kinda got to complain.
-
Are you cereal? I wonder if the the people who debated the order of words in Gear Second will come running.
pant pant pant
GEAR THREE!? &$#%&#@!%&@#!
Not really . I wasn't expecting Viz to use Gear Third as their terminology isn't the best.
-
So they are going with second gear and gear three, that's weird I thought they would at least let everything match up
-
You know, I really don't care anymore for Viz (Funi will probably have it right). But, why Second Gear then Gear Three? IT JUST DON'T ADD UP. '~'
-
Take it easy guys, this is just the test run. Most things will probably be fixed in the volumes releases…and if not, I don't mind either way.
-
Hell seems to be an acceptable word for Viz now as in Sanji's scene he still calls Kamabakka kingdom "Hell"…"As for me...I'm in hell"
Surprised no one mentioned that it's still called Kamabakka kingdom...actually it's called the "Queendom of Kamabakka"...kind of a play on the term queen being used as well considering it's connotations in English.
No way that undershirt will remain on Hancock in the volume release of 53.
The only thing I thought was a weird mistranslation was how they said that itw as theprisoners clothes put in boiling water, not the prisoners themselves. It seems too stupid to be an edit when they're leaving the blood, Hannyabal's joy in hearing the "symphony of anguished cries", references to hell etc....it's probably just a bit of a mistranslation. In the online version Domino does mention clothes in that same sentance.
Hannyabal is called Under Warden rather than Vice Warden....not a big deal at all.
I don't really remember where second gear was used...perhaps it was just a mistake there? They could be using Gear Two and Gear Three in the actual manga. I think we have to wait and see what's actually done with the volumes because there have been some inconsistencies and typos...like they've accidentally used Frankie online before when all other places use Franky as the official translation. Same goes for Karifa and Jabura...they're Kalifa and Jyabura elsewhere.
Jimbei is called "First Son of the Sea" rather than "Knight of the Sea" or "Boss of the Sea" the two translations I've seen thus far.
It's soo cool seeing this all in print for the first time :)
-

Just realized that I subconsciously flip second gear to say gear second. Why is this a big deal again?
-
After thinking about it, Jimbei's title of ''First Son of the Sea'' makes sense because his title was originally a pun involving how one addresses yakuza members.
Oh, and for those wondering where ''Sniperking'' is coming from, it's used on the Viz One Piece site in a list of which volumes and such we can get those awesome Straw Hat stickers. This is also the same list that uses ''Frankie'' though. And if you want the stickers for ''Sniperking'' (lol, no Usopp) and Robin, you have to buy the Shonen Jump issues! What the hell, you should be able to get the complete set from the volumes alone!
While Sniperking is a good translation, all I have to say is ''Good luck cramming all of those letters onto Usopp's bounty poster, Viz.''
-
I'll take as much English as possible, but honestly Sniperking is just as incorrect as Zolo.
-

How? Soge means Sniper (or something to that effect) Viz only translated it. (Which doesn't feel right to me) They killed the pun though. Zolo is plain wrong.
Wonder what will Funi do.
-
I don't really care that it's Sniperking instead of Sogeking but he's saying that it's wrong because they didn't keep the pun, even though it's impossible to translate.
-
The list says Brook's sticker is in the 54th volume which isn't part of the 5 per month schuedule. I wonder will that'll be coming out then.
-

Well, a lot of puns are lost in translation anyway. Meh. The name works. Guess I watched/read too much _Soge_king material.
-
We still don't know if it is gear second, second gear, or gear two since it hasn't been used in the chapters yet.
-
I think Funi would stick with Sogeking because for the song they have to dub in the episode. changing it to sniperking would make the song harder to dub.
-
@Elektrik:

I don't think so. Funi usually translates things, and their songs attest to that. Soge and Sniper are the same amount of syllables and both end with -king, so I don't see a problem.
Wish Funi was closer to Water 7. =(
-
Well in the game Funi used Soge, so that should stand for something.
-
The game also uses Gear Second, for what that's worth.
-
The game was also not translated by FUNi, to my knowledge. That would be Bandai's territory, wouldn't it?
-
The game also used Gear Third. But apparantly this was before the list.

Makes sense.

Sigh…...things didn
t seem like it turn to be so complex. The Simulcast, games, and Viz are all confusing the hell out of me at this point. I
ll take anything; Sogeking or Sniper King, Gear Second or Second Gear, Gear Three or Gear Third. If only all English areas of One Piece used the same things.
