Wow… there's someone saying Killerbee is awesome? 0_0

Chapter 563 "One Man, One Heart" Discussion
-
-
Killer Bee is about the best Naruto character, aside from Lee, but that doesn't mean that he's awesome…
-
^Nagato was awesome too, I loved the idealogy he had.
And what did you expect WB to do other than be him self. Kill squardo , beat him up or some thing else. The last thing you want is for people to lose faith in you in the middle of a war .
There's was no iffy writing cause squardo was play by the marines if he did it for some other reason i could understand what you were saying .
Yeah, people have to realize as this war is going on, Oda, at the same time is developing whitebeards character for the audience. For example, Marco told Whitebeard to end this farce [Meaning waste Squadro for his actions] but he didn't and showed compassion instead. Oda is simply developing on Whitebeards father son relationship aspects.
Do I find Whitebeards actions and dialogue corny, yeah, but that is just the way Oda wrote it and the way Whitebeard's character is. Like many have assumed they seen this coming, including myself.

There was going to be no drama no matter which way it went they don't have the time. WB kills squardo for betraying him losing some allies and go back to saving ace. Or what we seen happen in the manga.
The plan was great we now know the reason why the admiral was killing the other marines . Not wanting others to see him making contact with squardo, making only the NW pirates get attack from PX. It's was much more than someone just talking smack. It also tie into why sengoku made such long speech about ace for everyone to hear . You also see how many steps he was ahead by.
Squardo being an agent for BB, for the another yonkou or for the WG, and getting punched aside by WB, who just got the first nail in his coffin, that would have been exciting. But instead, Squardo fell for a ploy that wouldn't even fool a fifth-grader, and WB obviously gave his "son" a big hug and forgave him. If you liked that, good for you. I didn't like it. But WB finally jumped off his ship, ready to kick some ass, so next chapter should be a hell of a lot better.
-
If WB had retaliated like you wanted, then WB would just be acting immature, and wouldn't be worthy of his "Pops" title, and I don't think all these pirates would look up to him as a father as much as they do now.
You don't have to like it, but WB's actions help demonstrate his character and why so many look up to him. So far, WB is definitely worthy of his legendary status.

That is why I was hoping the betrayal was genuine (squardo being an agent ordered to take WB out, not tricked into it). Then the retalation would be justified, and it would feel more like a real war, rather than another setup to make WB look good. I hope you understand my stance on this.
-
I understand what you're getting at, and it's easy to see "plot" as an excuse for the betrayal by Squad. However, Squad fell for the marines' trap and maybe it would have been easier for you to digest if it had been developed more, but Oda gave just enough information to cover why the betrayal occurred.
Squad definitely has a grudge against Roger, and being led to believe that WB sold him out along with the other pirates which was completely backed up by the Kumabots only attacking them. Circumstantial at best, but still in a situation like this, people normally make rash decisions. Also as it stands, Squad said himself that he didn't even expect the attack to succeed. Again, another sign that Squad was just making a rash decision. -

squardo working for BB make even less sense that what happen. Squardo working for any marines, BB, a other yonkou would equal death and then they just move on , no drama , no speech ect ect .

It also shows why the admiral was away from his post and killing normals marines that was around there .
You also see how many moves ahead sengoku plan and that the marines are willing to play dirty once again.
Plus in war crap happens and sometimes people make rash decisions . -
But come on Greg, you seem so hyped for everything that is Strong World or Oda interview related. I can't see you giving up the book. What is it aside from this that you "had it up to here" with?
I think those that 'get' me understood what I meant but it's basically my special way of saying, it won't happen.
Yeah, I would give up the series because of that event.
But there's zero chance of that happening.
Oda wouldn't be pissing off a few readers by doing that, he'd be betraying his story and he will not do that.
Actually, I was a little bit scared a week ago, fearing that my Odar (Oda-radar) had completely failed me when Sengoku announced they would be executing Ace early.
A few weeks ago I made a declaration that Sengoku would absolutely not kill Ace early because WB recognized the fact that he wouldn't, and when two geezer rivals recognize each others' strong points, it's never a lie.
So when he [what we now know to be a ruse] announced the early execution about a week ago, I was reduced to a whimpering pile of goo unsure of my place in the world and who I really was, questioning my life decisions.
That seriously shocked me.
But then we found out it was, "..allll….part of the plaaaan.", and my faith in mankind was restored.
I know Oda and I know more than anything he won't disappoint. That is to say, WB is gonna have a glorious death and be a hero whose death will usher in pirate chaos.
Which is why I won't stop reading.
-
You were gettin' your underwear ready eh Greg? Though technically that was for Bentham.

What do you think about Whitebeard dying of his wounds away from the battle in front of his crying family who will then give him a funeral at sea the likes of which will make Merry's look like a comedy convention?
-
you wouldn't stop reading no matter what happens, stop being emo
-
Next chapter better deliver, or it's back to "let's see if the anime can make it interesting." This has been his salvation (for me) before (shabondy). Let's hope it doesnt have to come to that.
-
you wouldn't stop reading no matter what happens, stop being emo
So we're using emo for ultimatums now?
Wow… so far has it come.
"I don't agree that Burger King is the best burger shop! Stop being emo!"
This can't be far off.
Okay listen up. Only saying it one more time.
If Whitebeard dies outside of battle AND we aren't shown his death, it will have been the shittiest decision in the history of great manga.
If a shitty decision of that magnitude was utilized in say Dragon Ball, it would be equivalent to Toriyama choosing to end the series with the last panel being Majin Boo blowing up the universe while getting titty-fucked by Chichi and flipping us the finger.
It will not happen.
And therefore I will not stop reading the series.
If it did happen, I would drop the series like a rock because if Oda's dropped to that level, there simply would be no more enjoyment. My already struggling suspension of disbelief by his actions the past few years would essentially be executed by a shot to the head and two to the heart.
But Oda don't play that game.
He's not going to betray us and WB will have a fantastic death.
Annnnnnd….just curious, even if I did, what the hell does it matter anyway? I know there's no chapter but I don't think, "Will Greg continue reading One Piece?", is an interesting topic.
ANYWAY.......
I realized that Franky's first name is probably supposed to be Fulham. Goddamn you and your Engrish Oda. That'd be so much nicer than something that sounds like what I coughed up last night.
-

I'm fucking dying
But he's right. There's no way Oda isn't going to give Whitebeard an absolutely spectacular death. Bricks will be shit.
-
If WB disappears off camera so to speak and we are lead to believe he died like what happened to Mr. 2 I will only believe that he somehow survived.
He's old an stabbed and he's dieing, so the options are him escaping with Ace and dieing sadly on his ship on a bed. Which I have to say is a lame way… for a dieing man of his stature to run, basically admitting the marines beat him. I think he has to much pride as pirate to leave. The only way he leaves is if the marines are completely disseminated. Which I doubt will happen.
That leaves the only other option of the suicide run taking out everyone you can and going out at the top at near full power rage in the biggest battle the world one piece has seen.
So, you can either believe he dies as a sickly old man in bed or goes out at the top like a shining star fighting for what he believes in, the youth of the new pirate age, like a true pirate would.
-
One Piece is a story about being a man.
And Whitebeard is based on probably the second manliest of men, behind only German geezers with giant fuck-off mustaches, A Japanese geezer bar master.
They're men that eat cigarattes because they make their teeth whiter, men that can tell you how they lost fingers on a tuna boat in their youth, men whose hands are covered so thick in callouses, just touching their palm will shear the skin and muscle from your bone.
We've seen bits and pieces of his ideal 'man' before, but WB is like looking at them all wrapped into one.
He's gonna die a man.
That doesn't mean it will be slow, and maybe not even proud for dramatic effect, but it will be awesome.
This is the Whitebeard Dies arc.

Oda wants,WG to look bad,for the readers
-
IMO WB goes out doing something extremely badass like using a massive earthquake to take an entire island down with him or something.

A question for you Greg: How do you manage to fit so much WIN into a single thread page?

Well, I think it's pretty normal for Squardo to fall for that trick. Since he heard that Ace is Roger's son and WB intent to make him the next PK, he began to doubt WB. He thought that he might be betrayed all the time, that WB might make a fool out of him, but he still fight with the Marine because the doubt wasn't too big at that time, and he still respect WB. But how would you feel when your good friend suddenly turn out to be the son of the man you hate the most, who killed every one you loved, and now you have to risk your and your beloved comrades' life to save him. "Am i being fooled? What am I doing this for?", that is what you would wonder. "That WB, he didn't tell me a word about this. What am I like right now? What would the souls of my nakama think if they know their captain made friend with Roger's damn son, instead of tearing him into pieces to take revenge for them??!!". And then, Akainu, showed him that the Kumanators only attacks WB's allies, which made his doubt even bigger and bigger. His crew is now in danger, one by one is being killed, and the Marines said they would spare him and his crew if he helped. After losing his old crew, of course he fears losing them again. So, with so much fear, and doubt, he made a rash decision.
Sengoku is just brilliant. I mean, Oda. -
i just succeeded in writing the greatest greg-stops-reading-one-piece-but-whitebeard-wasn't-really-dead-story of all times (which isn't all that hard, cause it's the first and only of its kind ), but then i was smart enough to trigger a google search on that same tab, just before i finished and send it… life is cruel sometimes :cwy:
anyway, mark my words, there will be a NEWGATE NEW WORLD GATE!!

anyway, mark my words, there will be a NEWGATE NEW WORLD GATE!!
If Oda has any concept of the English language, he will have Whitebeard die making that hole in the Red Line that MmmBug was talking about, and the WG will put a big door in its place.
! A New Gate to the New World, for the pun-challenged.
The world would cry manly tears of great triumph, the angels would sing, and Whitebeard would punch Sasuke Uchiha right in the fucking face on national television. (Okay, small exaggeration)
-
But that would make stuff easier, and so wussy pirate crews will be able to get to the New World.
I disapprove.

If the government makes it like a Door of Justice then any pirate that gets through it would deserve to go.
Plus, it would make fishman island a little safer, maybe, if pirates had a second route to challenge.
-
Greg, what did you think of my suggestion? Would you be satisfied by that?
-
whitebeard will die like Boromir in LOTR with Kizaru and Akainu, spamming beams of light and magma at his face
-
whitebeard will die like Boromir in LOTR with Kizaru and Akainu, spamming beams of light and magma at his face
Boromir died by getting beams and magma spammed at his face? I think I have to rewatch LotR. :ninja:
-
i meant in the same fashion boromir got shot by arrows, exchange the arrows with beams of light and magma and you got it.
but i do have this feeling you understood this
-
whitebeard will die like Boromir in LOTR with Kizaru and Akainu, spamming beams of light and magma at his face
And then whitebeard's father, who is about 90 years old, out of sorrow that his favorite son has died, will incinerate himself and his failure son, greenbeard. But greenbeard wasn't dead, just unconcious, and is rescued by none other than Gan Fol. Lateron greenbeard continues to be a failure, but let's Luffy escape with
the ringAce. Good stuff. -
and then Luffy goes to raftel and throws ace into a huge ass volcanoe
-
Are you saying he's going to put a hole in the red line? O.o
at first thought i had it more like,
WB splits the world in half and an unknown pirate named Al Gore restores the balance of earth with a gigantic mystery pillar which would later be known as NEWGATE NEW WORLD GATE,
but after that i thought of Mariejoa as the place where WB would put his hole.
now i'm thinking he'll just crush Red Line at one or more random places which will be the gateway for the new pirate age and a major annoyance to Marines and WG. -
If WB create holes in the redline the hyped fishmen island would loose it's interest. I think the risk of going that deep to enter the new world, which would make the SHs journey to fishmen island so enjoyable, will fade a bit if it becomes that easy…
-
Tourism would go down for the fishmen and soon enough it'll become a ghost town.
-
I'm curious.
How many amongst you want WB's stache not to be a stache?
I'm all for gigantic mustaches but the thing looks so terribly awkward.
Like it could snap right off.
Is that thing seriously just a mustache?
-
It's a deadly quake-boomerang.
You heard it here first.
-
That was my first guess.
-
I said it first.
Sorry, that's how the world works.
-

WB's mustache seems more like a medical thing for breathing.:D
-
its more like the one mustache to rule them all, maybe its the stache and not Ace Luffy must throw into mount raftel oO
-
This thread is awfully close to cracking the mystery of One Piece
-
Greg, I'm not trolling you or anything!!!
You said yourself "depending on how it's handled". Would the situation I suggested to you be satisfactory to you? I mean if it's really beaten to our skulls that Whitebeard died right there and then with zero ambiguity and tons of tears and a bitching funeral…
-
I'm counting 3 times already. I'd think you'd have gotten bored of being ignored.
I actually wouldn't mind him dying later of his injuries after a retreat with heavy losses.
However, I do recognize the fact that the potential for a violent on-screen death is so great that squandering it would just be an awful decision on Oda's part. It would also dispel the no death on panel airtightness of the manga, and increase all the anxiety the reader has lost with the past "resurrections".
All in all I would very much want the manga to go in that direction, as I am sure Greg and most others do too. I think that any other choice would undermine all the buildup that has occurred here. I think it's also high time for the tone of the manga to become a little darker. I mean, a limb has actually flown, and I'm pretty sure no one saw that one coming. So, yeah, I'm not asking for a bloodbath or gratuitous dismemberment a la Bleach, but I'd def-o welcome a healthy cranking of the adrenaline knob, and the sense of danger would be restored.
Up the stakes and all that. -
One Piece is the pirate version of LotR. The Strawhats are the fellowship, and the WG is Saruman's army. Inside Marijois is a big flaming eye, there are 7 Ring Wraiths (warlords), 3 Witch Kings (Admirals), Sengoku is Saruman, and Usopp is Sam (aka, the real hero). Unlike Frodo, however, Luffy isn't a little bitch.
-
Only thing is One Piece is a bit more complicated that LoTR.
-
WB's mustache seems more like a medical thing for breathing.
Mystery solved.
!
Thousand, his family?
Really?
Sounds really bad.
Really bad.
-
So, will Ace die before or after Whitebeard?
-
i'm still missing a lead to who the frigg opened up the gate of justice for Luffy and his 'men'. there is still someone concealing himself from the blood of war.
