The thing is that the Marines made the deal with the Shichibukai in order to match the Yonkou's power. So 1 yonkou isnt enough to surpass the WG'S power.
Chapter 556 "Justice Will Prevail!!" Discussion
-
-
Kuma actually is a pacifista himself, so bit of a chicken or the egg thing there. But yeah, yohoho had a pretty humourous critical look at the shichibukai but not really true. Kuma is definately their golden boy. They sent him almost like an errant boy to thriller bark.
Yeah, that post was intended to be humorous more than in-depth scruitny – although I think it's more of a common-sense (and funnier) perspective on the Shichibukai than the one the WG takes.
In practice, yeah, Kuma is their boy, because despite his annoying tendency to beat the shit out of people and then just let them go, he's (a) at least superficially the most loyal member they have in terms of showing up and taking orders for the big stuff like the war, and (b) he's also hauling around millions of Berries' worth of super-advanced cyborg technology that they can't exactly throw away.
But still, it just kind of baffles me the threshold to which the Marine leadership will tolerate Kuma's brazenly counterproductive resolutions to his bear-man ass-whoopings. They all know what a rapidly ascending threat Luffy is, and here Kuma is giving him and his friends free trips to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber instead of dumping them in Impel Down (although recent events considered, that might have been a temporary solution as well) and removing another headache from the WG's massive woes. And he's not even being secretive about it, he's doing it right in front of them and then bragging about it. I mean, on freakin' Sabaody there…
Kizaru: "Oh hey Kuma. I see you beat the Straw Hats there, great job. I'll call Magellan for you after I finish lightsaber-fighting old Obi-Wan here."
Kuma: "Actually, I was just going to give them all free trips across the world so that they can come back later with a bunch of dangerous new powers and friends."
Kizaru: "...How exactly did you get hired, again?"I know they're desperate and they're kind of ludicrously charitable to Kuma because he's the only Warlord who really acts like he's playing ball, but come the hell on, how can they NOT smell a setup in the making there when their best dude starts OPENLY playing favorites with the Straw Hats on a REPEAT basis?

Edit:^^^ Good post :)
I'm thinking they're assuming he finished them off for good this time.Don't quote me on it but I think the main kink in what you're saying is that it's been said that WB hasn't lost strength over the years, I'm sure someone more sure will clarify this.
My point is not invalidated unless WB got stronger. If he remained the same, then Garp was strong enough to beat the current admirals at some point in his life.
Aokiji is past 40, Akainu should be too, Shanks is close, his crew mates should be close, Buggy close, Teach is 40, Mihawk is likely around 40. Sengoku looks older than all of these guys and was not in his mid-late 20's(Lucci's, Robin's, Kaku's, possibly Marco's age group) during the Ohara flashback. More like Franky, Das Bones, Blueno, Jyabura's, etc. age group. Gray hairs&wrinkles do not equate to age, Sengoku looks more than mature enough to be in his 50's or 60s just healthy as fuck.
Another hole in the whole WB=PK=Garp argument is that is assumes Roger never went up in power as he progressed further(was he really considered the PK before reaching Raftel?) in the Grand Line. Could have just faced Garp during his adventures with WB acting as a sort of final boss. The Roger telling Garp to take care of his kid behind barss being able to overwhelm Garp 1on1.
Aside from his flashy facial hair he has little signs of age. But okay yeah he could definately be 50. But people like Akainu or Kizaru look to be older in terms of wrinkles.
On your other point you do bring up a good argument. I guess at this point we don't have enough to know one way or another. What I do know is that Roger and Garp fought to the death several times, and we also know that Garp cornered Roger many times, so at least a large portion of his growth is accounted for because they fought at different points in time during this growth you bring up.
In the end, it is true he may have surpassed him, but I believe he probably remained a match for Roger until the very end, and perhaps got beat in their last encounter, but certainly not by a large margin.. The way the manga refers to Garp, the respect WB shows for him(who named only one pirate and two marines off of the top of his head, and one of them was Garp, so I doubt he was VA lvl), the fact that he twirls around a 500 ton ball of death like nothing when he says he is weaker than before, and the respect Roger had for him all seem to point out that he wasn't just powerful. He was absolutely top tier.
@Usopp:
who says it couldn't be AIDS?
Then he should have met Luffy earlier.
i don't agree with that. just because garp and roger fought sometimes and they were tied doesn't mean they were equal. roger seems similar to luffy and that means roger probably was always running away from sengoku like luffy runs away from other marines. does that mean those marines are equal to luffy? plus garp and roger had different motivations. garps job was to capture or kill roger while roger could do anything he felt like. garp tried to kill roger but failed. i doubt roger ever truly tried to kill garp. serious luffy and regular luffy are different persons in terms of ability and power. did garp ever see serious roger? so far the only one that we've seen who saw rogers serious side was whitebeard and he has the scar to prove it. not saying garp is weak but lets not go and say he was almost equal to roger because i doubt he was.
Excuse me, but doesn't Garp "seem similar to Luffy" as well? Oh yeah, he's his grandfather and practically the same person personality wise. The people Luffy runs away from are nothing like Garp. Your entire argument is destroyed by the fact that Roger said that they "fought to the death". It's about as serious as it gets. This would mean that both Roger and Garp failed to kill each other. These were two people who were very much similar to Luffy in many ways, and are portrayed as equals, in the same way that WB and Roger are portrayed as equals.

My friend asked me that "Why do you think this chapter is good? I think it's normal, neither good or bad. Nothing special. The speech is common, too."
Prove he is wrong with your analysis. -

Hmmm, this feels like mockery. Is it directed at me?:ninja:
No. Why do you think so?
I would like to see something like Greg's comment in chapter 554. -
Why it was good:
We know a little more about what OTsuru can do.
We saw WB taking a vice admiral down as if he is fodder.
We have an idea on how WBs DF works.
Doflamingo's owning with speech and power.
Akainu remembers one marine what it means to be a deserter and kill him.
We saw Garp struggling between helping Ace and his principles as a marine officier.
We saw that Sengoku, akainu and Otsuru have actually a plan which makes us think what it can be?
We saw that luffy and co entered the battlefield (and what an entrance).
All that in one chapter, so yeah it was really good.
-
This time I ain't gonna look at spoilers. I want complete surprise when I read the next chapter. Too exiting :D

Why would Roger run?
Luffy runs from Logia marines becaus he can't use Haki yet. Just because they are alike in personalities doesn't mean Roger would run. Luffy never runs from a fight even if he can't beat them, but if the person is a logia like Kizaru and Smoker, he knows he doesn't stand a chanse. Roger probably had Haki as well.
Roger saying "almost killing each other" qualifies as being serious wouldn't you think. And how is that even important. A fight is a fight for bough of then. Unless one of them was like angry as Luffy when he was fighting against Crocodile, it's just a fight. And why would Roger not be serious when someone is trying to kill him.I believe Garp was almost his equal. My reason for that is that the pirates had Whitebeard and Roger who were the strongest ones. Then that would mean all the strongest ones in the world are pirates, which would really unbalance things. The marines needed to have someone who could fight with them. It would either have been Sengoku if he is strong, or Garp, or someone we don't know about. Garp seems to the logical answer because he is the hero of the marines and he and Roger almost killed each other many times.

Luffy never runs from a fight even if he can't beat them
ahum, I advise you to reread shabondy archipelago arc
they weren't running from a logia, kizaru had his hands full with rayleigh, they were running from Kuma and Sentamarou, Kuma isn't a logia and sentamarou doesn't even have a devil fruit
Also, I am glad they have decided to include mysitcal zoans and ancient because the animal ones didn't seem that powerfull IMO
-
554?
554 was sick.
I read it on an 8 hour bus ride back to Fukui and I must have read it twice every hour. Despite being filled with spreads it was informative, fun, amazing and exciting. It was a money-shot chapter and I think I mentioned elswhere, but it's a chapter that really establishes Luffy as a rookie. When you see the size and scope of everything there, it dwarves most of what we've seen them accomplish.
-
What exactly is Himo Himo? I was thinking String String, whatever that is in Japanese.
-
Kizaru: "Oh hey Kuma. I see you beat the Straw Hats there, great job. I'll call Magellan for you after I finish lightsaber-fighting old Obi-Wan here."
Kuma: "Actually, I was just going to give them all free trips across the world so that they can come back later with a bunch of dangerous new powers and friends."
Kizaru: "…How exactly did you get hired, again?"Well, Sentomaru who is in direct contact with Vegapunk, the creator of pacifistas, didn't even know for sure what Kuma's power was. He was only speaking of a rumor about his power. They may think that he just send them flying somewhere without knowing where exactly, and that they could simply fall in the sea or far enough not to be a problem before long.
By the way, except Luffy who fell on an island quite near ID, all others are dispersed all around the world and we still have no clue on how they can come back. By their own mean it could take very long, considered the time it took to travel half the world in Grand Line (on another side, if they don't travel in Grand Line but use more traditional ways to reunite on RedLine, it could take less time). -

Before Rayleigh arrived there was still Kizaru going after them. And even so, he is still involved in the fight. Luffy realised that he can't defeat him, and then Raylegh arrived. They just didn't start running away yet. Then another Pasifista and the fat one arrived, and they were greatly outnumbered, even if Kizaru was bussy, he was still involved.
Lucci is a powerful Zoan.

@Kairouseki:
What exactly is Himo Himo? I was thinking String String, whatever that is in Japanese.
String is Suji. The kanji can also be written for Muscles, which is what Doflamingo can do (control people's muscle movements). It's fitting.
Himo is also string, but the kanji can also be written as "pimp", which would fit Doflamingo. So either way works.

Yes, indeed, they didn't run yet when kizaru arrived because it all happened in a split second, kizaru was suddenly there, and then indeed with kuma and pacifista and sentamarou at the scene they were greatly outclassed (although kizaru would've easily killed them all without breaking a sweat)
and then they started running but the thing I was reacting on was them running from logia's, the ran because they were outclassed,, not because kizaru happened to be a logia. Also, Lucci was powerfull to begin with and the only thing his Zoan fruit did was amplify his strength and make him look like an animal. In my opinion that is kind of lame seeing the originality of other fruits. So yes, I am happy that there are other types of Zoans because I was getting tired of the normal ones . . .

I don't wanna argue on such small details :)
The dinosaur dude is just ugly. I hope there are more of zoans like Marco around.

Do you plan on dating said characters, why do you care?
There are alot of awesome ugly characters in this manga, like Moria, or Magellan.
-
The great thing about next chapter is that some of the fighting will stop and allot of diologue will take place! When ever anyone says anything in One Piece it seems to be relevant. So once the entire battle field is shocked at the sky ship and who was on it, a brief pause in fighting will happen, which will allow for some great reactions to Luffy and his makeshift crew, well Buggys crew.
-
Luffy has Jinbei and the okamas on his side at least.

Megellan was hotness dunno what you're talkin about

Thank you!
God I was about to curse at his comment for that. Then again you can never tell when Fiasco is being sarcastic or not. -

A guy whose crew was destroyed by a 9 man rookie crew aint cool.

A guy who turns into a dinosaur won't be my favorite. I simply don't that like design and the fact that it's a dinosaur. I did not say I disliked ugly people. Moria is awesome ugly. His character design is unique.
I would think a guy who turns into a phoenix is much cooler than someone who turns into an ugly dinosaur. But I guess that's just me, I want the person to look cool.

Don't hate Moria, dude:sad:

One of the Greatest One piece Quote EVER!!!DonFlamingo will go a long a in the series because of this quote imo. he sounds very wise.
speaking of flamingo, he's starting to remind me of joker.
-
speaking of flamingo, he's starting to remind me of joker.
he follows an archetype like most characters so the things he says and does shouldn't be that original or unexpected for anyone familiar with any more of writing.
-
His personality may be commonplace but his wardrobe is not .
-
From the way he looks and acts and dresses i find it amazing to have such a TRUE Quote Coming from Flamingo.
I was shocked.
-
wtf theories of garp>admiral…wait n see..
as for now...luffy + hancock = combo attack >>> admiral hehe -
Heh, I can't wait until the anime gets to this part. Doflamingo's seiyuu has a great speech-making voice.
I never weighed in on Tsuru's Devil Fruit did I? It's like Kalifa's Fruit in weird mode. What will the next female Fruit user have as a power? Making her enemies into sandwiches without a kitchen?
-
No, she'll be able to form a kitchen wherever she goes.
-
@Kairouseki:
No, she'll be able to form a kitchen wherever she goes.
Omg I just loled while smoking and almost choked to death
-
(While stuck on a deserted island)
Marine: "Lilly, make me a sandwhich!"
Lilly: "Okay, hold on a sec." (summons a kitchen and makes sandwhich)
Marine: "That's a good sandwhich. I'm glad I keep you around." -

He allways seemed quite insightful to me. Evil and a bit insane, but intelligent at the same time.
I think if there ever is a Flamingo-Arc, emotional pain will play a big role. His way to threat humans reminds me a bit of Arlong, just with more thought in it and on a way bigger scale.
I can understand why Oda gave him the highest bounty so far. I just thought about what kind of things a villain with his personality would do if this weren't "noone dies and noone suffers TOO much and the good guys win in the end"-One Piece. Pretty terrifying.

@Dark:Psh.
Dofla isn't that scary.
True LOL okay then like a flamboyant Aji Tae

Dofla is not that god-like….
Fine. A sissy version of Makato Shishio without a sword and still has skin.

Wait what?
Hmmmmmmmmm Kishi can't get any lamer. He should let his brother take over and ruin his manga the right way.
-
I dont hate Moria, but he cant be compared with the other Shichibukai.
Yep. He's way better.
And I'm still wondering in what way Doflamingo will get his own arc and if he's going to get himself some minions/allies…

I have a feeling in some way Don and Law will be involved together, cause of the Smiley face Symbol thing they got going on.
and Maybe even Kid cause of being humiliated through out their whole Journey for following their dreams.
Zoro and luffy were insulted badly at Mock town imagine that continuing for the whole journey kid had it tough man.
thats why i think Law and kid might be involved in the downfall of Don or even, don taking out Law or kid.

Those smileys have been shown in way more places then just those two. Also Kidd was in no way humiliated seeing as he just laughed and killed the people who said it. Which why would he want anything to do with people who would laugh at his dream which is what Bellamy did while working for Doflamingo?
-

He's right. Moria isn't cool.
! He's AWESOME!

I was just flipping through the chapter again, when I saw this:
Fuckin' Wolverine in my One Piece.
