a tie, tie, tie again XDDDD

Franky hasn't been getting near-raped and standing in the background when not being near-raped, though.
He's still been pushed to the background as of late. And for rape - well there is the Robin incident.
Speaking of which, you can apply that very same criticism to Robin. Doing nothing significant since Ennies Lobby besides grab Franky's junk; getting licked/fondled by Absalom and then strung up in a spread-eagle pose by sticky white (spider) fluids does not make her a bad character who is 'nothing but pure fanservice.'
Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro have several unique design characteristics. Singling out Zoro, aside from his hair, he's got the three earrings on one ear, haramaki, three swords he carries around, sharp eyebrows, lack of big "good guy" eyes, head/armband, chest wound from Mihawk, etc. Nami has the vanilla OP chick appearance; face and all (at least Robin got different eyes and a unique nose, for criminy's sake). Only other thing she has is her tattoo, and again, sleeves take that away.
Wow, you're really grasping at straws here. By that same standard I can cite Nami's unique phsyical characteristics as being her hair (the colour and that signature strand by her ears), her staff, eternal log, and that circular pattern on all her skirts/pants.
She didn't change at all, and that was the problem! Right after the Arlong arc, she was the same exact character with only two differences; we knew she wouldn't leave the crew like that and now she had no reason to be a money-grubbing gold digger. She swapped one negative trait for another.
And she didn't stay out of battles. She participated in the Black Cat pirate fight. She did change. You just ignored everything I wrote. Look at Whiskey Peak, where she was willing to leave the crew when the stakes got too high; then Jaya where she swallowed her pride and stuck by her captain; then Skypiea where she voluntarily placed herself in danger just so Luffy could ring a bell; then Water 7 where she was doing everythign she could to hold the crew together. She's developed a lot.
And she didn't participate in the Black Cat fight as one of the main fighters. Considering she had no super strength, no devil fruit powers or anything, I think we were all expecting Nami to be the standard shonen cheerleader. But she willingly took up the mantle of fighter in Alabasta and is now one of the regulars.
From barely being able to bat off canon fodder
to taking out a member of CP9
Go watch ehr flashback again. Hachi's right there with Arlong, snickering over Belle-Mere's death and carrying the kids away.
But we don't know what exactly happened during those ten years. It was Arlong who we saw smacking her around and taunting her. Now had Nami forgiven Arlong just like that, I would've agreed with you.
And Ivankov did intervene with Crocodile, but Luffy still accepted it. Same for Buggy, Mr.3, etc.
A plot device still has bearing on the character involved. It still made Nami a bitch.
But it only happened once. And with a specific purpose in mind. Not just for the sake of 'bitchiness'.
Besides, it's refreshing that Nami has a bit of an evil streak. We don't really need more goody-good girls like Vivi.
So how is Nami screeching at the top of her lungs any better than that other crap?!
Because she shuts them up! I can't begin to tell you how satisfying that is - seeing stupidity rightly punished.
Do you feel a similar hatred whenever Moe clobbers Larry and Curly?
-
It's a draw again
-
@ultimateclima:
Yup. I'm that big of a douchebag.
I actually lol'd
And Nami is winning!
Edit: And now it's a draw :/

Wow… 2 special numbers.

Once again, lightning heats the surrounding air to three times the temperature of the surface of the sun, and she utilizes it based on her knowledge of weather and physics. With her brain. She can create mirages, clouds, and wind the same way. As much distaste as I have for that one page of her fight with Califa, a good portion of the rest of it shows off how clever and smart she is in a fight, to say nothing of relentless.
-
I love women. So I voted Nami just now. (First time voting too =P)

to taking out a member of CP9
My biggest problem with Nami vs Calipha was how much Oda dumbed down Calipha to make that victory possible. It was like both her IQ and killer skills vanished as soon as Nami arrived.

Oh great now Nami's winning….

Remember, this is the guy who was able to solo almost the entire crew without breaking a sweat.
And Nami deflected two of his attacks!
Vote Lightning - Vote Nami

I love waiting until the last minute to vote…

Doing nothing significant since Ennies Lobby besides grab Franky's junk; getting licked/fondled by Absalom and then strung up in a spread-eagle pose by sticky white (spider) fluids does not make her a bad character who is 'nothing but pure fanservice.'
Robin has at least given us a few memorable joke moments during Thriller Bark (the first thing to hit her mind when seeing Kuma's powers, and her "destruction" of Pirates Docking Whatever), as well as going directly after Moria, acting as living exposition, her exchange with Rayleigh, etc. Even when her contributions to the story are small, they're still far and away more than what Nami's been doing lately.
And at least her questionable fanservice moments have been clothed ones.
Wow, you're really grasping at straws here. By that same standard I can cite Nami's unique phsyical characteristics as being her hair (the colour and that signature strand by her ears), her staff, eternal log, and that circular pattern on all her skirts/pants.
Nope. First of all, not counting hair for either of them (since bland designs come with interchangable hairstyles). Second, her staff is always tucked away when not in use, while Zoro's swords are an accessory we always see him with. Also the circular pattern (and even hairstyle) aren't always present. Etc. etc. etc.
So we can count gag moments when they make her look deep (i.e. her storming off at Whiskey Peak) but not when they make her look bad (i.e. beating luffy to a swolen pulp at Water 7 for really ridiculous reasons)?! And she voluntarily placed her life in danger just so Luffy could stop the human god that was about to kill all of them. Big difference.
She hasn't developed at all. From day 1 she's been the bossy one. Weather or not that bossiness is a gag or super dramatic (being a bitch or "holding the crew together") just varies on the situation. Otherwise her role has been set in stone, and nothing has been added to her, nor has she done anything impressive besides beat the CP9 member with the most moronic power in One Piece history. And, if you want to count it, accidentally defeat Miss Doublefinger.
Character growth and strength increase are not the same thing. Even then, she could only do that because of her new staff.
But we don't know what exactly happened during those ten years. It was Arlong who we saw smacking her around and taunting her. Now had Nami forgiven Arlong just like that, I would've agreed with you.
I'm not excusing poor writing with pretend maybes. We saw what we saw: Hachi revelling in Arlong's attack then, and buddying up with Arlong's crew in the present. At no point is there any indication that he was a nice guy to her in the gap in time. Just because he was a goofball then, and changed his ways later, doesn't mean he had a stint as a nice guy. Hell, if he was, he wouldn'tve been as sorry as he was, or at least his apology would've had a much different tone to it.
And Ivankov did intervene with Crocodile, but Luffy still accepted it. Same for Buggy, Mr.3, etc.
He didn't have much of a choice, though, and he wasn't happy about it. Off-topic anyway.
But it only happened once. And with a specific purpose in mind. Not just for the sake of 'bitchiness'.
Besides, it's refreshing that Nami has a bit of an evil streak. We don't really need more goody-good girls like Vivi.
"Evil streak" and "tendency to be a bitch" are two very different things. Hell, I'd welcome an evil streak, but Nami's greed just gets ridiculous sometimes. And not "I'm judging her morally" ridiculous, I mean "this shtick is starting to get annoying" ridiculous. It wouldn't even be so bad if it weren't coupled with the constant shrieking. Now we have this character that screams at everyone, hoardes their money, cons their own friends, bosses everyone around, etc. Not exactly an Empathy Stew we're cookin', here.
Because she shuts them up! I can't begin to tell you how satisfying that is - seeing stupidity rightly punished.
Do you feel a similar hatred whenever Moe clobbers Larry and Curly?
And how, exactly is Nami's constant
NEtNHC9tEt8
shtick any less dumb than the rest of them? Plus we get to hear her screech all the time on top of it! Say it with me, folks:
Faaaantastic.

Ok Schmeckie last warning. If you post one more lenghty elaboration in this section you'll be banned. I've warned you several times already and am sick and tired of doing it again. And don't even bother to send me a PM on that matter. Just shut the fuck up.
-
Damn, I forgot Nami redirected Enel's attacks. Brain and body. Me like.
-
The hell?! I've been responding to people in the same way they've been responding to me. Why the hell am I being singled out?!
-
The hell?! I've been responding to people in the same way they've been responding to me. Why the hell am I being singled out?!
Because you're doing it regularly and far more often then all the other people put together. One could even get the impression that you're baiting people to talk to you in such a manner. That's why I'm focusing on you mainly now. Comply or face the consequences. I'm far beyond the point of listening to any of your explenations. Understood?
-
Because Nami must win.

Vote for one of the most misunderstood characters in the series! Say no to overgeneralization! -
Why isn't Nami winning? She's the only hope for a female character to win :O
-
Don't let the talk of others fool you. Nami cares alot about her crew.
EDIT: Well, since bevin already took care of that in his last post… XDVote Nami!
-
Well since Shmeckie is forbidden from long discussions I'll try to keep this short:
From what I understand you acknowledge those little scenes with Robin on Thriller Bark but completely dismiss anything with Nami that isn't fanservice? Her friendship with zombie-Lola and subsequent "avenging" scene; sharing the treasure with human Lola; forgiving Hatchan; offering up all their treasure for Camie, etc. This is showing a bias.
Gag or not, it was never came up again. And for Skypiea, she originally wanted them to escape, which was the original plan. When Luffy refused to leave - for the bell - he himself was surprised when Nami offered to bring him up the beanstalk. It was a voluntary act that placed herdirectly in harm's way.
It sounds to me like in your view for Nami to 'develop' she has to completely give up all her defining characterstics and become a new person all together, rather than expanding on what's already there. Yes she tried to hold the crew together in W7, not through "bossiness" but by trying to keep the peace.
Character growth and strength increase are not the same thing. Even then, she could only do that because of her new staff.
I do think they matter here, because in the early days Nami was more inclined to hide behind the stronger fighters and just give support. Since then she's gotten considerabley braver and less hesitant to jump into a fight. And it was she herself who approached Usopp to make the weapon. (And fyi: she also beat Miss Doublefinger and Satori's brother's.)
For Hatchie - he could still be sorry without having committed attrocities. Again, it's not like she forgave Arlong who we did see doing just that.
I still fail to see how her greed gets "ridiculous" since she's had nowhere near as many moments like that as the others with their antics. And her shtick is less dumb because she's not being dumb, but greedy. She also doesn't tend to destroy things or cause havoc when she fawns over treasure.
-
Oh yeah, I almost didn't notice. If Nami loses there will be no females left in the tournament. Wow.

Pretty sure responding to this would be too long for Ivotas. sigh C'est la vie…
