Chapter 551 Yonkou "Whitebeard" Discussion

yo…
Dadan reminds me one of the 5 elders (or whatever you call them)... maybe there is some connections...
It seems that Ace might not be the only "brother" Luffy has...
Sorry if someone posted this before.

I got no such impression, can you quote the corrisponding text?

Look at this
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/551/07/
"You'll be livin with these people."
So they are saying there are more "recruits" than Luffy and Ace. So it is possible that Luffy has more "brothers/sisters". But maybe he had the best connection with Ace.
-
''These people'' could easily just mean Dadan and Ace.

We don't see Dadan maybe your thinking of Garp, when he dropped off Luffy
-
@Xai:
Don't know if this has been brought up before, but ….why has Garp not been penalised/victimised yet?
We know how the World Government operates, with its motto of Absolute Justice. We have seen an entire island wiped out to erase some historians. We have seen a Buster Call on one of WG's own establishment to erase, essentially, one person. We have seen WG eager to prosecute almost everyone connected to Roger.
Why then has the WG not taken any significant action against Garp?
1. Garp is the parent of the world's most wanted man - a revolutionary who has declared open war againt the government. One would expect WG intellegence unit to know the relation between Garp and Dragon. One would also expect WG to use Garp as leverage.
2. Besides his son being a most-wanted criminal, both of Garp's "grandsons" are exceptionally troublesome pirates. One guy being a division commander of a Yonkou, the other having declared war on the government.
Nobody knows of the relation between them

True, but it isn't impossible is it =P. Oh well..

I think you're clutching at straws, RobinotX.

He sure does, was thinking where i recognised him, thanks for that find (even tho its probably not him)
-
That's Garp. It's NOT Dadan. Dadan is offscreen.
This has been repeated many, many times in this very thread.
-
Does any one know if there is any one famous from history with the name Dadan?
-
no, there isn't, otherwise we would have known something about Dadan, the only thing we know about him is that he brought up Ace and Luffy. He hasn't been on screen and hasn't been spoken of much. Only in one of the earlier chapters by the major of the city Luffy was in when he met Ace just after the Enies Lobby incident when Luffy got his 300 000 000 beri bounty and just now in the latest chapter
And if you mean OUR history then no, there is no one named DaDan that is well known, at least not to my or my google skills knowledge -
The only thing I saw that hinted to Luffy having more siblings was probably a translation error where Moria says Ace was a son that survived, implying that some sons where thought to have been captured/killed.

Or he could have a devils fruit ability which gives him electric powers, kinda like how Sasuke uses chidori & its variations…which would be kinda cool because It'd still be a very powerful ability to have.

Pind Dadan Khan, the center of the salt trade, is named after the person who created it (by that I mean Pind Dadan Khan). That's the closest I could find.
-

I thought it said 'these guys' which could imply more than two people. Or at least leaves Oda with the option of having another character in the group. it also confirms that Dadan is a man.
I think that Dadan must be seriously strong for Garp to have left the PK's son and the worlds most wanted mans son in one persons care. Either him being a pirate or Ex-marine (guesswork)
Or former Fleet Admiral? coughLiescough

Please let this be a joke

Please let this be a joke
How about you point out why the idea is stupid. It pisses me off when all people reply with is "Please, let this be a joke" Its a completely useless comment and it only leads to the possiblity of a useless argument starting because some people cannot be respectful of other people's views. :pouty:

Sure there's the option, but there's really no reason to believe there'd be more people…
And while I'm not arguing on the point of him being a man, the original Japanese didn't say "kono otoko-tachi." I forget what it was (yarou domo? koitsura?) but I'm 99.9% sure it wasn't gender specific. "Guys" is just the closest english equivalent. -

Did you ever heard about Enel?
Well a weaker type parmecia lightning fruit.

I suppose I shoulda been more clear on what i meant. A paramecia version, which would be a toned down version of Enel's ability, kinda like that Don guy from the anime filler's who had that heat-heat fruit.

I actually did think you were joking, being as Enel has a Logia fruit based on this. Now I know we have similar devil fruits but this is pushing it (Ace and Don acchino)
As for arguments, there's no point. Your opinion is your own, I can respect that.
@CCC
I'm not supporting there being another, just saying that Oda phrased it like he did so it will give him the option to add another character if needed. And it would appear that yet again the different translations have caught me out! Where's Stephen when you need him? lolz -

He's only implying that there's more than one person, not more than two. 1 guy, 2 guys @SMUDGE:
it also confirms that Dadan is a man.
"Guys" doesn't necessarily mean "group of males", it can be used to refer to a group consisting of either or both sexes

His power is that he throws ducks at balloons and noone is the wiser.

Yeah, though since Dadan is a man's name I doubt that there is any point in arguing about his sex.

Lack of spoilers is making me go into withdrawal and I'm going to start drugs soon.

Just remembered something!
How come Ace isn't smiling in the face of death? Some son of Roger he is =\

He probably knows he's not gonna die…. maybe?
-

Roger chose to die because he knew he was going to be responsible for starting a new age of pirates that would remain famous for hundreds of years.
Where as Ace threatens the very stability of the age of pirates by being caught. If WB dies in a rescue attempt the power balance could tip resulting in world domination for the government. So smiling isn't really right for this occasion.
-
He might also still be thinking about Luffy. He doesn't know yet that Luffy was able to break out of Impel Down and is about to enter the war as well.
-
Roger smiled because he might aswell have, he did everything he wanted to, no regrets, Ace on the other hand has the failed Spade Pirates, got captured by a fat ugly thing, and is wearing girl shoes.
-
This post is deleted!

Well, it was even more patetic when Luffy was about to be beheaded by Buggy… and he smiled!
-
Well, it was even more patetic when Luffy was about to be beheaded by Buggy… and he smiled!
Luffy didn't have the weight of the world on his shoulders; Ace knows that even if he's saved, a large amount of people are going to die because of his capture by Blackbeard. I can't see any reason why he'd want to smile right now.
-
Let´s face it, Ace is playing the "damsel in distress" role in this arc.
Of course he is not happy, what is the point of saving someone if that someone already accepted his death?
-
The exhilirating thing is I half expect Oda to maybe possibly kill Ace.
Maybe.
-
oda won't kill anybody, but people will get beat up pretty badly. the most we can expect is near death.
-
@Brave:
oda won't kill anybody, but people will get beat up pretty badly. the most we can expect is near death.
true oda won't kill anybody and especially ace now that he revealed he is rogers son. i expect whitebeard to die but nobody will kill him. his body will give out right after he does something huge like saving everybody in his crew and ace as well. we won't actually see blackbeard or anybody else killing whitebeard.
-
Off topic question: Has Pandaman been sighted in this chapter? :ermm:
-
My money is that Whitebeard will be killed by a wound inflicted by Blackbeard, and I would like for some of the Shikibukai (Jimbei, Kuma, Moria, Crocodile) to die, as well as Akoiji and Garp, all by the hand of Teach, just to plant himself as a new World Power.
But.. this is oda, I would only bet in the first one.
-
Crocodile will kill Whitebeard, and Jimbei will probably sacrifice himself for Ace"s sake.
-
buggy is going to be cut by whitebeard but really even with his devil fruit.
-
we need chapter 552 =(

Nobody knows of the relation between them
Relation between who, you mean?
Its pretty obvious from Sengokku and Tsuru's comments that atleast the top tier Marines (and by extension, the WG) knows about Garp and Ace's connection.
Garp and Luffy's relation is well known - Garp himself exclaimed in laughter, applauding Luffy's actions and calling him his grandson.
The debatable point is whether the WG knows the connection between Dragon and Garp. I would think the WG military intelligence/espionage division (aka Cipher Pol) to be extremely incompetent if they had not traced back Dragon's roots to Garp. However, from all we know of Cipher Pol (or whatever other means the WG acquires its intelligence), they are pretty competent at what they do. They did trace Nico Robin and, by chance, Franky in Water 7. They found out Tom's connection to Roger (its debatable whether people already knew Tom's history beforehand). Most impressively, they figured out Roger had a child, and traced back his movements over a period of one year and chalked out possible places where he was hiding his unborn child and spouse.
With that track record, I would suppose that its pretty safe to assume that WG top tier atleast knows about Dragon's history, and by extension, his parentage.
And if they had not found that out, then Garp had blurted out Dragon being Luffy's father, and since Luffy called Garp "Grandpa", it was obvious that Garp was Dragon's father. This was heard by the marines under Garp's command. Now, this is pure speculation, but a news like this would not stay confined within a bunch of people. It would first spread as a rumour among some of teh crewmates, and eventually reach someone high up, which might trigger an intelligence investigation as to the validity of the statement. Yes, it's a long shot, ut not something that would be completely out of place.
But my personal opinion, based on what we know of the WG, is that the WG and Marine high-ranking officials have known about Garp and Dragon's relation for a while now. Dragon is no petty criminal. He is acknowledged to be World's Number 1 Wanted Man, and it would be silly to presume that the WG has not dug up Dragon's past.
But, of course, its never been explicitly mentioned in One Piece whether or not anybody except the Strawhats, Copy, Helmeppo, and the marines under Garp know about Dragon and Garp's relationship.
-
Dadan is Pandaman.
-
And now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD
i have the feeling that, after your post, the 552 spoiler will be out very soon(few minutes probably).
