Of course, he misses them.
Chapter 541: "The Likes of Vhich It Has Never Seen" Discussion
-
Of course, he misses them.
-
Y'know, it kinda bugs me a wee bit that Luffy has seemingly shown more concern and emotion over Mr. 2 in this short span of time than he has for his entire crew at any stage in the story.
Talk about "a man's romance"!
-
Luffy is pretty simple minded, so I think he's just focusing on what he has to do right now instead of complicating things further by also worrying about something that is completely out of his control. There can be a time for him to be all 'emo' and worried about them later. As of right now he has to focus on saving Ace. shrug
I wonder if Buggy is going to get a new crew, or if all those prisoners are going to be added onto his old crew when he gets back.. Didn't Alvida take over his ship though? :ermm:
-
Well there was the bit about Luffy being disappointed that Bon-chan wasn't Zoro…
Well he did most of his reminescing at Amazon Lily when he tried to do something and then commented on how insert SH name would know how to do it.
-
Bon chan should totally keep messing with him, that would be a great gig
-
Bon chan should totally keep messing with him, that would be a great gig
Wow yes, the panel he was talking about Mr 1 losing to Zoro he should have turned himself into Zoro. Oda missed a golden opportunity there.
-
While I can understand the criticism that this arc is lacking in drama, I find this complaint to be a little nitpick-y. To be frank this arc isn't suited for a lot of drama. Luffy is working under a time limit in perhaps the most hostile environment he has ever been in. The very setting and circumstances pretty much require a quick paced action oriented story. Which is what the Impel Down arc has been so far. There has been drama, but understandably less than other arcs. Another thing is that this is all leading up the war with Whitebeard and the Marines, with a possibily of Dragon joining in as well. Given the stakes at hand, that would be a prefect time to inject the story with buckets of drama and have it be right for the story.
-
Well said DaeJi.

vhat a chapter just avesome
seriously oda vent all out and i can't wait to see malgan quickly deal vith the riot in level 2
vov this is the kinda chapter that makes me completely ok vith the lack of the other strawhats (tho zoro was in the chaptr ith a thought bubble lol)
seriously avsome chapter just avsome
and im not sticking my head up Oda ass this was a great chapter im suprised so much has happened in 1 chapter damn
Damn that guys head vent big
if he can do that to his head i vonder vhat other organ he can enhance in size heheheheSee vhat i did there hehehe
Accents dont work like that. You can't just straight substitute one letter for another in every case, because they have different pronunciations. The "w" sound in "awesome" is NOT the same as the "w" sound in "which" or "with". Similarly, some other letters become silent when taking on an accent, particularly "th" sounds, which go silent or turn into a "d" sound, so "with" would become "vit' ", and "that" woulve become "dat" while "awesome" would remain unchanged. "vonder vhat" is perfectly fine.
Thus, since you took no actual account of language variance and how an accent would be affected, your post makes no sense.
Y'know, it kinda bugs me a wee bit that Luffy has seemingly shown more concern and emotion over Mr. 2 in this short span of time than he has for his entire crew at any stage in the story. Heck, we haven't even gotten any ''Man, I hope X is doing okay right now.'' or anything like that.
He mentioned most of his crew in varying degrees during Amazon Lily, including taking a long time to consider chasing after them first or going after Ace who he KNEW was going to die, and decided that he trusted in his crew to take care of themselves for a few more days as opposed to his brother, who couldn't. (He has no way of chasing them down anyway, the best he can do is get back to Rayleigh, so he has to trust in them anyway.)

happy BIRTHDAy luffy =)
-
it's luffy's birthday? does that mean something special is happening in japan?
-
^ It's Children's Day. That's about it.

I feel sorry for the guys that keep reading the manga and keep complaining because it did not happened what they wanted or they wanted more drama or something like this. I dont feel disapointed for ODA´s work, i enjoy it every moment, but there are some people that keep complaining all the time about what they wanted to happen or what ODA did wrong, that is so sad, i feel for all of you guys!

awww, no sales on one piece merch or a marathon of episodes on fuji tv?
Not even a parade?

i don't know what these people are bitching about one piece has been incredible lately. maybe it's like you say and their predictions haven't come true. maybe i'm really happy because many of the things i wanted from this arc is actually happening.

Honestly if all the predictions people make up came true than this would truly be a boring series so i'm glad that oda is taking the route that he's taking.
My Thoughts on the chapter:
It's a given that half of the rioteers will be "slain" by the animal guards that are under supervision of sadi and soon we'll be shown if sadi, saldeath and Hannybal have DF ability's or not more than likeally to pose as obstacles in luffy, jimbei and crocs way since there gonna have to do anything in order to not let anyone free from impel down plus there's also Megallan and the possibility of shiryuu joining the fray but I personally believe that his motive's will involve him attacking both luffy's rag tag team and the marine forces of Impel Down. Now the only complaint I have of this arc is the sudden descriptions of what certain DF powers do ei; why in the hell did we need to know how crocodile's power worked? we all read alabasta and it was rather obvious what he was able to do and what his weakness was, I personally believe that it was just a waste of panels.
-

qft.
That's exactly what i thought too. Those panels should have been saved. I don't know it seems oda didn't know what to do with those panels and since he never explained how crocs DF works (even if it was obvious after alabasta) he may have thought: "hey why not?".
But this explanation has no impact on the story so far…I don't understand why saldeath would fight? He already met luffy and did... right... nothing but commanding the bulgoris who were outmatched easily. Was it arrogance back then? I dunno but right now i have the feeling that he is only there to coordinate and command. He seems to be the brain of all the bulgoris…

uhuh…and I like OP the way it is....I mean it's not "Odaish" if it's not Oda himself who plotted the storyline, isn't it?!
and I love the suspense!!!....it's soooo nerve-wacking...i love every minute of the manga.....
-
I guess oda just felt like adding a bit more explanation for some old favorites. Remember he also went more into depth on Buggy's ability to fly.

I would say it would be out of arrogance but even if saldeath isn't a DF user he could still be lethal hell it wouldn't surprise me if saldeath was a df user and his ability was to create blugori's….have there ever been a multiple person in this series yet?

@Best:
@ GEPPETOSMONSTER: Whos that person in your sig? Which manga is he based on?
it's luxus from Fairy Tail i've been meaning to change the sig to someone from my own comic but been lazy on doing so
-
It could be because it's been a while since Baroque Works or Buggy have been shown in the manga and so Oda decided to give a briefing on their Devil Fruits incase some readers have forgotten.
-
than wait…does oda think that we all have dementia and can't remember what happend a good 300 chapters ago? (i'm not being specific)
-
Not everyone has those chapters fresh in their minds. There is probably a good number of fans who haven't read the Baroque Works saga in years. Oda perhaps realized this and decided to add a quick explanation of those Devil Fruits to refresh those peoples' minds.
I remember hearing Toriyama had forgotten about Lunch's existence at some point during the second half of the Dragonball manga, which was why she seemed to have disappeared. If a manga author can forget about his/her character(s) and/or abilities while the manga is still going, what's to prevent the fans from doing the same thing?

Then maybe you wanted to say that oda forgot that he already explained how crocs DF works back then in the alabasta arc. Cause the fans have the time to read the manga again. When he explained Buggys DF i was glad he did it since it explained a lot.
If you think Oda made this to help the fans who doesn't read his manga (well i cannot understand how you can be a fan and not read the old chapters) then we may expect an explanation of Daz bones, Mr.3s, Mr.2s Df…. -

Oda already did Mr.2's Devil Fruit.
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/531/19/When he explained Buggys DF i was glad he did it since it explained a lot.
There you go. It helped you, as I'm sure it helped others, as I'm sure Mr.2's and Crocodile's Devil Fruit explanations helped others as well.
-
they probably do mr. 3's expliation on the anime…..
-
Chapter was cool as hell… Croc is bad-ass nr.1
And the colorspread was nice too, but it once again showed me how much I miss Sanji in it as Supernova
-
Oda already did Mr.2's Devil Fruit.
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/531/19/Oh i forgot this one. Thx for clarifying it. So yeah that was also a waste of panels since Mr.2 already explained it.

Imagine being a kid in Japan who buys Jump. You started getting into One Piece at some point during the last few years and you look forward to the new episode of Jump every week. Now a couple dudes who haven't been in the story since the day you were born show up out of nowhere. Those kids are quite happy to get an explanation of what's going on. I wouldn't think Oda would expect these kids to go pick up some manga that's as old as they are (if they could even figure out somehow that they had to).
Just to recap, those descriptions aren't for people like us.
-
You guys gotta remember that One Piece isn't just written for older fans, but the main target has a lot of younger people who may not remember every single detail about a character like we do. So, as a courtesy, Oda included explanations of their power. 500+ chapters is a lot, not everyone can remember everything that happened.
Anyway, good chapter. Massive prison breaks are good times, indeed.

We also got explanations for Buggy and Mr. 2's powers. You can't just assume EVERYONE has read all that came before anymore. One Piece is 11 years old now, 53 volumes long, 541 chapters, 300 something anime episodes, and Alabasta saga was almost 7 years ago. There are readers coming in now that HAVEN'T read the entire backstory, that weren't even born when the series started, that have no idea who these characters are or what they can do.
Same reason every issue of Spiderman starts off with a brief recap of Spidey's origin and powers and the "great powers great responsibility" speech. Because EVERY issue is somebody's first, and its assinine to asusme that EVERY reader has read the entire backlog, or read it recently. Entire generation of kids who are picking up their FIRST issues of Jump now.
We're people that post on a dedicated One Piece fansite. We discuss and think about the charaters a lot. But would a casual reader remember all of Croc's abilities? A lot of people forogt about his giant sythe blade dry up attack and thought it was new. Would a casual reader even remember who Mr. 1 or Mr. 3 were? Let alone a new reader who simply has NEVER seen these guys before at all?

At all. I've read Alabasta once, and seen it once in the anime. I read Skypedia once. I read Water Seven once, as it was coming out weekly. I read thriller Bark once, as it was coming out weekly. BECAUSE I'm on this board I can pull out details and character names and general plot movements, but I'm sure that when I eventually go back and reread it all, I'll have forgotten a lot, including entire characters or specific abiltiies. And heck, you look at the character pcontest gong on right now, One Piece has HUNDREDS of characters. I'd forgotten al about Richie th lion, but am reminded of how awesome he is and am voting for him. (Vote Richie.) Sure if I say "Hattori is awesome", people on this board will go "Yeah, Luchhi's pigeon was cool", but if I said it to one of my friends, they would ask "Who?" "and I would then say "Lucchi's bird" and then they would respond with "Oh yeah, I forgot he had a bird."
You can't compare hard core fans (Which is what you are if you're posting on a series specific message board) to casual (IE, most) fans.
Its also a bit silly to complain about a ONE PANEL recap, at that.
-
If the Rookies are locked up in Impel Down, at least we know how they'll get out. I was hopin Lvl 6 prisoners would be set free too…
-
The Anime has one or two minuites of recap an episode. Can you really complain about 3 panels in 20 chapters.
Personally I like them. I forgot that Mr 2 has to touch a person with one hand and use his other to revert himself. And how many new readers would put dryness and sand together.
@lightingace There no proof that the rookies were captured.
-

Nah it just shows how awesome this manga is that i have to try really hard to find something and states it is annoying :)
And wow did you say vote fodder? If you can't remember richie then he was really fodder :) Vote sengoku.
(i'm only replying to a campaign. This is not a flamewar we can continue this in this awesome thread) -
I think the Supernova are waiting to be transported to Impel Down in Marine HQ.![](file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Alumne/CONFIG%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-2.jpg)

Not to mention, it's not like it was a blank panel with nothing but text. It was written over Crocodile doing something so whether there was text or not doesn't make a difference.

Buggy, Mr 2 and Crocoboy all have an explanation of their devil fruits. And why not Mr 3.

Chapter 523. A marine reports in that they're having trouble processing the 500 Pirates Kizaru captured on Shabondy into Impel Down. Hawkins, Drake, Apoo & Urouge got their asses handed to them. It wouldn't be a far stretch to imagine they were arrested….
-
Soooooo, when is Arlong gonna show up in Impel Down?…
-
Pretty sure Arlong isn't in Impel Down. It was never stated exactly where he went, just in prison. But I with that being said I think its safe to assume they didn't take him all the way to Impel Down.
-

Translation error:

Marine: I have a report, Fleet Admiral!! After Kizaru-dono took those 500 pirates captive
out of sheer spite following the Sabaody incident,
Impel Down says it doesn't have the manpower to draw up all the paperwork!Sengoku: Send that to the Labor Dept.!
I don't want news of anything less than Whitebeard himself brought to me! -
Whats the error? All that is saying is send the paper work to the labor dept.
-
I think everyone missed the simplest and most obvious reason for the power recaps: New fans. People who might only have gotten into One Piece during more recent arcs like Shabondy and Thriller Bark who either haven't or couldn't read back on all the prior chapters for one reason or another (such as sheer volume of volumes involved)
Also, I think Mr 3's recap will come when he does something especially important with his powers than he already has.
-

Then they're doing it wrong. I know it's possible but it's rare to fully enjoy and be engaged in anything when you start in the middle or near the end.
But if reading from the start of any arc is the best they can do. more power to them. I felt recapping was necessary for everybody since nobody has a perfect memory. Most of the ppl playing a big role haven't been seen for years.
Also the explanations for some of the DF users were more thorough compared to when they were first introduced like Buggy for example.

.Okay i'll admit it's asinine of me to assume that people should know about certain characters allready and now I can see the point that you make. Still I would expect if the person reading the OP chapter who had just found the world of OP in jump that maybe they would one day go back and read the previous volume's just to get a fresh idea of the series or go online and wiki it (lol). Sad thing is you can do this with OP but with spiderman…trying to find the old issue's is a pain in the ass....( I wonder if it's the same for early OP volumes in japan)
-
Haha nice, didn't noticed that Mr.2 going crazy after seeing Mr. Crocodile in the last 2 pages.

Dude. You expect wrong.
The target audience is early teenage boys.
They were like 5 year olds when Croc showed up in the manga, and not all of them have the allowances to go and buy 40 something volumes of manga.
No, rather, they buy Jump at the bookstore on mondays for 2 bucks, flip through them, chat with their friends at class, and that's it.
Some of them don't even buy Jump, since they know one of the classmates are sure to bring an issue to the class.
Too many people forget that this is a weekly magazine publication for CHILDREN IN JAPAN. Gradeschool kids and Jr. High. YOU are not the prime target.I went through the same thing with Hokuto no Ken and Dragonball and Dr Slump, when I was their age.
Only the hardcore ones went and bought all the tankoubons. I focused my allowances on collecting Doraemon tankoubons though lol -
There are so many reasons why I would never give this manga to a child… especially a smart child... anyway, I can see both sides of this issue. On one hand, it has been a long time since Crocodile was a part of the story and a brief recap on his powers is a good thing for newer fans who haven't seen him yet. On the other hand, the internet exists. In the end, it's a small part of the chapter and I firmly believe that not one thing was cut in order to have that in there.
