If they had re-vamped and re-written the storyline (which I hoped), people would be bitching that they changed it and bastardized the original. If they didn't (which they did), people would bitch that they could basically watch the TV series, and that version wouldn't be condensed/rushed.
I'm probably one of the most optimistic OP fans on the board. Except when it comes to video games of course, but that comes after a 23 years of being burned by Bandai.
But I'm never one to complain about animation (even though I will praise it) and I was one of the few people excited about the film up until I was 20 minutes into it feeling the need to slit my wrists.
There's simply no saving the film. Aside from what amount to a little over a full minute of cool 'stuff' sprinkled throughout the film, there is nothing worth anyone's time or money in it.
It is a failure on all fronts of legendary proportions.
I had a few nice things to say about it, but I'm not kidding when I saw nearly everything else teeters on the edge of amatuerish. From all points, the film is an abomination and once some copies of it start to circluate, I'm sure many of you will agree.
