Remember this anyone?
Vividly. Man, I might have to remake that again after this movie. XD

As long as they use Dvorak, I'm all set.
Sounds pretty dumb. Arabasta is godly as is; if there was any arc that should have been adapated for the movies, it's Skypiea, which, as I've said before, feels like a Toei OP movie but was written by Oda.
This the greatest news ever ever.
Everyone has a fight.
The story rocks.
Zoro + Mr. 1 in HQ animation = sickest evar
Oh man. Oh man Oh man…..
I don't mind an occasional rehash. I mean, they did do 7 movies - look at Dragonball. All four of the movies were "remixes" of the TV series' storyline somehow (movie 1 was the first arc, movie 2 was meeting Lunch/Roshi, and movie 3 was a weird combination of Roshi's training, the second tournament with Tien, and the Red Ribbon Army arc).
Omg… Storm in super animation... Will be god like!
Arabasta….
come on!
Seirously, I don't seehow they'll cram al lthsi into the time of what? 3 and 1/2 episodes, 3 if you count commercials.
Dragon Ball: Saikyou e no Michi did Red Ribbon Army. Didn't follow it exactly, but it kicked ass.
The Hokuto no Ken movie is yet another example of retelling (by Toei) that turned great. Of course some changes will be necessary, but i don't see how they could ruin it.

As several people have mentioned, it's been done before and it's been done beautifully.
I don't get it if Toei is out of good ideas to make a new movie why don't they contract Oda to make them a script
Not that I'm against a movie version of Alabasta, but still this is a thing that can go really good or really bad
I hope it goes really good because Alabasta arc was not bad (it was my favourite after Water 7 came along)
As long as the Kung Fu Dugongs are in it, I'm all for it.
I bet Toei isn't making this because they're out of ideas. You honestly think Toei could run out of ideas?! TOEI of all companies…
...I think the reason is this is a story worth retelling... in smooth animation...
As long as there is no One Piece GT, I am fine with Toei…most of the time. But, I am glad to see this as the new movie, but I am wondering where they will start. Right as they reach the country?
As long as they don't change the fight song I'm good
Huh, sounds interesting, but I don’t get the point if it’s just going to be the same plot condensed. ._. At this point I’d prefer some random filler plot. But we’ll see.
i have faith that this will be awesome. I've been very very pleased with the animation toei has dished out for water seven (even the ones that weren't perfect were average to slightly above average.). Like most people, i totally hope that they keep New World Symphony as the theme for Croc's defeat.
I'm curious as to where they're gonna start from in the movie. it seems like it's gonna kick off right when they get to Alabasta, but i wonder if they'll do an overview of how Vivi ended up with the strawhats, etc.
As said, people probably aren't gonna be interested in seeing something they already seen in its entirety. The big turn on for this is gonna be seeing the final Luffy vs Crocodile fight in High Quality Animation.
Hopefully the Dvorak song will be a higher quality version. Actually, I wouldn't mind if they found something else entirely, but still good. It would kind of tarnish the individuality that one episode has. Especially since the drawn-out, episodic nature of the arc that's already been animated seems to fit that song being there, from a build-up perspective, as opposed to just a short movie remake thing.
If any kind of film should be made from something in the Alabasta arc, it should be Rocky Horror Picture Show starring Bon Clay.
But, you know. I guess this might be decent too.
@Private:
Oh, and that ridiculously stupid part where the elite soldiers drank the "Forbiddan Water" and lost.
That shit did nothing to the plot. It just stalled the fans. What the hell is Forbiddan Water anyway? They threw in this random subplot that lasted for 5 minutes and never brought it up again…?
Now, personally I love this scene, because it shows how much of a cruel bastard Crocodile is.
"Why should I bother to kill them if they're willing to do it themselves?"
Half of the Arabasta Arc was bullshit, but nothing can beat that climax.
I agree with this, though.

I was actually just about to say, "As long as they keep the Time Warp, I'll be fine."
But your ideas better
Waiting to nice result….
Vividly. Man, I might have to remake that again after this movie. XD
May I state, for the record…that YOU ARE MY GOD.
All that was missing from the trailer was the ubiquitous promo voice that they get for all the movie commercials. I had to have watched this trailer at least a hundred times since I first found it.
I like the idea of an Alabasta remake, but am worried about the music. Will they use the same old tracks or a new soundtrack? If Tanaka Kouhei doesn't make new music for this movie, we will hear the same old pieces over and over again in the series for the next 16 months. Unless he takes the opportunity of a year without OP movie soundtrack to make a 5th TV soundtrack…
Ah, Alabasta. A 40 episode long saga with a whiney blue haired girl trying to save her kingdom from the hands of a menacing but ubercool villain.
…THEY'RE RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS.
You know, the more I think of it the concept of Alabasta as a musical is getting more and more awesome.
I'd watch it. I'd watch it good.
hehe i didn´t know of this, sounds cool, hope they have the Ace part in there, and as many already thinks, better with this then something farfecthed made up shit :D
Ungh. I'm actually offended by this. It just completely tosses away what the first seven movies were for. Basically this is a pot-shot by Toei to throw out something that was already done on the Big Screen for the profit. The whole point of OP movies was to produce a short plot, generally a mystery, that the Strawhat crew must uncover and then battle for the sake of saving something (nakama, the world,… food if you're Luffy).
I'm fairly convinced this is a hoax. There are no scans of new scenes that have been digitally changed, rather they just cut out parts from the anime and glued them to the paper. Also the Alabasta arc is fairly long, and it will be rediculous to squeeze it in an hour and 1/2.
Also to you Ace fans, the movie would be based off of the manga, meaning Ace jumps in, saves Luffy from Smoker, then gives him the note.
This is a dissapointment for me, being fed ABC material instead of something new, original, and with Franky!

Me too, I want Franky to be in the 8th movie:sad:
Hmmmmm, this could be good but I wonder where they will start the movie seeing how Baroque Works saga really started way back at Reverse Mountain. They'll have to do a massive recap at the beginning and then just start out somewhere in the desert going to Yuba or I'd guess. Even from there, it would be hard to condense all that plot and battles into one 90 or so minute movie. Hell, they could eliminate the entire bomb plot and it is still a pretty massive amount of story to tell in that amount of time, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it. Seems like it'll be better than most of the crap stories Toei comes up with anyway.
I also think that this kind of movie would be much better suited for an arc like Skypiea, but maybe that is just the plan for the next movie.
It'd be really awsome if Movie 9 was Skypeia
Skypiea as a (good) film would be like a wet dream. It would work better too, because it was much more a self-contained story than Alabasta was.
Either way, the more I think about this film, the more it excites me. The simple reason being seeing canon One Piece animated with a high budget. And let's face it… That's a pretty rare treat.
At least we know they cant scrunch ALL of Water 7/Enies Lobby into an hour-hour and a half movie….or can they O.o?
Maaaaaaaaaaaan I really am excited about this movie. I think it is gonna be good.
…. I've been dreaming about this ever since the opening of Grand Battle 2 when Crocodile got destroyed by Storm and didn't do like 5 flips in the air in ugly animation.
SO awesome.
And I thought the idea for the 7th movie was weird.
I'm still looking forward to this. It'll be interesting to see how they fit it into one movie.
May I ask a question?
Why is everyone so stunned and put off by this idea?
You'd think it hadn't been done before. Not only that, but it's been done beautifully.
It will not be canon. The fights may even be mixed up, and there's a strong possibility that much of it will be pulled off in a very mature fashion. If it weren't then the story simply couldn't be told.
It's going to be a very new experience and it holds great potential.
I know it's just my opinion but I cannot fathom how people could actually groan about this considering the SHIT FESTS we've gotten to this point.
I mean, if you really want the potential for something like 1, 2, 4, 5 or 7 then okay I can understand. But 3 out of 7 movies serving as passable companions to OP isn't a really good track record. You could have that or a remixed saga of whup-ass.
Again, opinion is opinion but unless they ROYALLY screw with the story and make it about rescuing orphans, I can't see a bad side to this.
QFT, Greg. This movie can easily be much better than all the others without effort. Someone even mentioned Ace's blank paper. Come on, what's in the hell that has to do with Alabasta storyline? Of course there's no need to put it there, i think some people still didn't get the idea here.
wow this would be interesting!
Alabasta is one of my favourite arcs!
Making it into a movie would be awesome…
and the perfect trailer for it would be the one that was posted in youtube~
That music sounds like I've heard it in a movie or movie trailer. But I just can't remember which.
I actually agree with Greg, I mean look at one of the most powerful reversions of an anime TV storyline, Macross: Do You Remember Love?. A lot of stuff happened in the TV series and yet the movie not only managed to condense the main events of the 27 episode plot into 1 movie but in many cases surpass the TV version in a lot of ways (mainly Minmay's song). And if your covering JUMP anime then Toei already did this for ALL of the original Dragonball movies and for the most part they did it well (especially in the case of the 10th anniversary movie Path to Power).
But I do want to make one observation. I've noticed that Toei seems to be retconning a LOT of the One Piece anime. Possibly to renew the fanbase and get newer fans into the series that don't have the patience to sit through the first 283 episodes. I mean we had 5 weeks of character history flashbacks and now Toei is retooling the Alabasta arc for the big screen. Even Oda's manga is taking cues from the early volumes and tying them into the current upcoming story arc.
All in all it looks like all around it's a big One Piece revival!
O-chan
Yeah, uh, I don't understand where all the hate is coming from either. I've been hoping they'd do something like this for like EVER. Hopefully it'll be a resounding success so they'll have a reason to do the same to the rest of the story arcs. Thinking about a Skypiea or East Blue movie with cinema-quality animation makes me all weak in the knees, it would be so rad.
May I ask a question?

Quoted for Fucking Truth
Alabasta Plot (which we like neway) + Movie Quality Animation / Fights + Villains that Kicks ass + Support characters that kick ass (can't wait for Kohza's white flag scene in Movie Form), epic music = WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN
seriously after Movie 7 this is the best idea ever

That's a good point too. Given that Alabasta ended in 2002, i bet a lot of japanese kids who follow the show today never watched it, or don't remember.
Dude….. this sounds like its gonna be awesome~!!
Oh man... just thinking of seeing Zoro vs Mr. 1 in nice quality animation.... oooh man.... that's what I'm looking forward to.
And yes, bevin's trailer is still awesome~! That made me think of Alabasta as a movie anyway, so this sounds like it could work.
Foreshadowing, anyone XDDD
and as long as they do use the updated or better animation, then I'm all for it.
This looks very interesting I cant wait to see it
This is gonna be a fluffy film if it's covering that much story in 2 hours. If it's actually redrawn/animated scenes without too much "original" material, it could be reaaaallly sweet
Flippen awesome.
Alabasta with all the pointless garbage cut and a higher animation budget can't fail. I had always hoped that Toei would follow the example of the 4th DB movie and do a theatrical reinterpretation of one of the sagas.
Don't care about perfect accuracy. Mix up the fights/events if they need to, just make with the quality entertainment. Most of the movies are like glorified filler, but here they'd have something solid to work with from the start. Being able to see Croc do his thing with movie-quality animation is godly.
And agree with Mog. If this goes well they definitely need to do Skypiea too since the story can work as a stand-alone, apart from all the interweaving arcs. It also got some of the shittiest animation in the series.
Oh yeah, I have to agree with that. I would LOVE to see Skypiea redone. I've been saying that since I first saw Skypiea animated. I was really disappointed at the quality and the constant padding. Alabasta, aside from the fillers, I thought was fine as it was. It could still be done very well as a movie though.
