You can't legally segregate public institutions, but they probably don't intermix very much during the day. If you went into that school's lunchroom, you'd see black and white students, but all of the black students are probably at one table.

@wolfwoof:
Yeah but i mean are there seperate classes for blacks and whites? Seperate lunch rooms? Seperate stores?
In all likelihood, the lunch rooms, stores, theaters, etc. probably aren't by law segregated, but the prevalent attitudes left over from about 150 years ago have made segregation a de facto thing.
-
@wolfwoof:
Are they segregated in any other way than the prom? Cause it seems strange to be all up in each other all day everyday
And then just go to seperate parties
There are some news report videos on youtube about this stuff. Interviews where girls who are best friends, who have been going to school together for 10 years can't go to prom together. Might be outliers though

Real sorry to hear that.
I know how bummed I was in our recent election but you must have it alot worse.

Where I live Gay marriage is pretty much allowed in every state as long as you submit a writ of amparo to fight back the decision of the court of sticking to what the constitution says about marriage having to be only between a man and a woman. And it goes without saying that you also need to hire a lawyer that doesn't sucks.
Just a couple of days ago a bunch of couples decided to do it. It will probably end in their favor like the cases in other states, since the recent reforms have done a good job at fighting discrimation of any kind.

It just makes me really happy that more people are getting serious about something like this, rather than just being OK with the way things currently are. And it's pretty funny how a judge in one of the most backwards states was the one who made this possible. -

Man that's just awful. There's now a report of a possible device at the Mandarin Motel.

Pic of the explosions.

Shit, I just found out about this from my cousin. I was thinking about going downtown today too. Just…damn.
-
Was it a bombing or something else?
Very horrific news regardless.
-
Can't we feel free to just… live anymore? Ever since that shooting at Colorado, any time I'm at the theater I always have this paranoia that I could die. I can't even "kick back and relax" without feeling uneasy. Sure, we we'll always continue to do our activities, but fear is a hard thing to remove.

Wow. That's ridiculous, wish everyone is okay, hopefully nothing too serious.

Watching CBS, and they're reporting that 22 people injured and 2 killed.

Here are a couple more images of the carnage. These are nsfw I'd say.

Nice to see you're okay, Crossword.
I'm also from Boston, thankfully nowhere near the race. Anybody else in the city who wants to report in would be welcome.

Now the only thing I hope for is that this was the PDRK's doing. We'd have ourselves a real casus belli for harrying the north.

The New York Post reporting: A federal law-enforcement source confirmed to The Post there are at least 12 dead and nearly 50 injured. Fox News reported that Massachusetts General Hospital was treating 10 people with amputated limbs and all operating rooms were on hold. Authorities have a identified a suspect, who is currently being guarded in a Boston hospital with shrapnel wounds.
Some news. Not sure if confirmed/unconfirmed.

Jesus…......Another Timothy McVeigh?

The final mile of the Boston Marathon was dedicated to the Newtown victims, and the families of the victims were in the VIP section right by the finish line where the first explosion occured. These poor people truly have been through hell….....

Apparently there was a third explosion at the JFK Library..
-
So I heard. Those bastards better not have planted anything at the MFA or the Isabella Gardiner Museum.
Google has made a person finder for the marathon:

2 confirmed dead, 50 wounded.

sigh For anyone who wants to see:
-
They've backed off on the JFK Library incident being a bomb and are now calling it a fire.
-
Well, Things finaly are about to get to boiling point here, there was a call for a recount, but while Maduro "agreed", the army went and started to destroy the urns and ballots.
The reports of the results handled by the opposition place us as winners.
Good luck and safety to the Boston people.

sigh For anyone who wants to see:
I can't imagine the chaos around there after the bombs went off. Smh…...

i hoped they in boston ARE SAFE FROM BOMBS AGAIN

Most of my family lives in Boston. I'm optomisitic that they are out of harms way, but shit. Alll I want know is why? This has been some really random news to wake up to.

The President is speaking in a few minutes, for those who are interested.

Speech was rather what was expected.
I honestly don't know how they'll figure out who did this if no one comes forward.
-
Lol my friend wants to move to canada and she's using this as reinforcement on how the USA is clearly the most dangerous place in the world. I really want to just copy and paste some of monkeyking's posts LOL

I know right?! Like, it's a big event, and it shouldn't be underminded, but jesus, it's a marathon, who the fuck aspires to bomb a goddamn marathon

It's Patriots' day in Massachusetts; it's a big event. People are out of school, off work, universities don't have classes, and the marathon is always run on the Patriots' day. The Red Soxs always play. Calling it a "big event" would be an understatement.
There were reportedly 27,000 runners this year.
The event and the day are very significant to the people of Boston, the whole of Massachusetts, and even Maine.

"Boston is a tough and resilient town, so are its people. I am supremely confident that Bostonians will pull together and take care of each other."
Honestly, this was my ultimate take-away from that video you linked earlier. Sure, there was the initial disbelief and horror at watching what was going on – how the scene so quickly turned from everyday life, to complete panic and chaos -- but by the end of the video, after the initial shock, you just see so many people, civilians included, doing what they can to help.
I think it's comforting in times like these, to be able to have a reminder that, while there are bad people out there -- sick, twisted, evil, misguided, malicious, call them what you will -- they really are the exception to the rule. Common human decency, empathy, desire to help our fellow man; these things aren't dead, but alive and well, despite how things may sometimes seem.
My faux-philosophical musings aside, however, this is horrifying news. I'm glad that those of you from Boston are alright, and sincerely hope nobody here has had someone they care about involved in this.
-
Hearing on the radio that one of the two confirmed deaths was an eight year old baby. Someone please tell me that's just speculation.
-
What I do hope for is that people with a fervor and interest in the case do not subject themselves to repeat images, do not place too much of a vested interest in the "whys" or motives, and be cautious and wary on any and all information provided by networking and internet news sites at the moment.
Do care, especially if you are in Boston, that Red Cross is always in need of donations, do care about the victims and people affected by the tragedy, and so on, and do care that Boston is putting forward great effort to stay strong
Just stay smart and keep your thoughts healthy? And definitely I repeat, do not suffocate yourself with images and 24/7 news coverage
-
Certianly. That's pretty much what I've been doing. Paying attention to actual news and ignoring speculation or anything that tends to bring up a state of panic. I lived in New York during the whole 9/11 thing, and believe me. I'm sort of baffled at the amount of misinformation and mixed incidents that was spread around.

The Boston Marathon is a WORLD WIDE EVENT. The world's oldest annual marathon.

It just seems so….petty, like, blowing up a hospital of cancer patients, do you understand what I'm saying? I'm trying to say it LOL
-
Oh what the fuck now.
-
It just seems so….petty, like, blowing up a hospital of cancer patients, do you understand what I'm saying? I'm trying to say it LOL
How does this seem petty? How is this like blowing up a hospital on cancer patients. These are people who were incredibly healthy. These were people who wanted to support family and friends. These are people who have lost limbs. These are people severely injured, lying in hospital beds. This was an eight year old kid who had an entire life to live. A terrorist attack, no matter what kind, no matter where at, is never petty.
And it's never something to "LOL" about.
So, no, I don't understand what you're saying.
Even though The Beast was right in telling everyone to not suffocate themselves in the images and coverage of the attacks, maybe you should go look at the limbless bodies, the blood covering the street. Then come back and call see if you can still call it petty. If you can still "LOL" about it.
-
The President is speaking in a few minutes, for those who are interested.
WHY
-
I think Khaini is trying to say that targeting a marathon is especially despicable?
But I don't see how it's any more despicable than targeting a school…
-
I really don't have any idea what to think about this.

This is a dumb argument, stop having it.

Not surprising seeing someone with a name similar to Kanye West making dumbass comments.
Heart out to everyone today.
Curious what it was for. Patriots day? Huge Event? Tax day? Marathons Cause, ect. Or all the above.
I know a few people who run marathons all the time. But they decided to not do this one, so no worry for me on people I would know.

Official response.

He's saying it's petty. Not despicable. I would agree with that.
Calling it petty devalues what happened.@Monkey:

A dumb argument is what you had with him the other day in the Pics thread.
This is me reacting poorly to his diction, because my fiance is from Boston, and her brother and father were at the marathon today. We heard form both of them right away, as well as the rest of her family, thank God, but there's always nagging question of, what if they had been just a little bit faster? What if they hadn't been ten minutes out from the finish when the bombs went off.

By the way, since it has been posted yet, if you know anyone in or near Boston that you haven't heard from, use this: http://google.org/personfinder/2013-boston-explosions My lady has been using it since it was put up, and I started as soon as I got home. We've been looking for people we know, as well as coordinating with those we have heard from in Boston to try help get information up about those who might be missing.
The whole no cell phone thing is making it rather difficult though. So if you, or anyone else are looking for someone or has any information, please: share.
