Yeah, I was gonna say. This.

it's much easier to read if you totally erase from your mind that this is boxing.
just categorize it in your head as "typical manga fist fight", and the jumping around becomes more acceptable in the seperated context.
What i'm trying to come to terms with is really just where is all of this going?
I can't imagine there being a level beyond teleporting, Itagaki as he is now is faster than Miyata was ever shown to be. And he's still "learning".
If Itagaki grows one more step were entering DBZ territory. And what about Ippo? Is his freakish strength going to take a level as well?
I think this manga has fallen in a pit even lower than Naruto and Bleach.

not being funny, i'm actually curious, but how is this worse than bleach?
It's just a dragged out mess that keeps breaking the laws of physics and boxing, but that should really be fine. Ippo's been like that from the beginning and that's what we've grown to love.
I actually started rereading the series a couple of days ago and I sure am enjoying the heck out of it. The comedy's fantastic (RIP, Bear-sama ;_;) and it's the first shonen I've seen that has the guts to handle the issue of romance and relationships properly. The art is still looking good, most of the fights are somewhat riveting, and all the important characters fleshed out just like they should be. Even if you hate Woli and, primarily, Itagaki with a burning passion, you can't deny the fact that they have carved niches for themselves and that neither is a badly written character. Dubious plot elements, perhaps, but not bad characters.
If only the pace picked up a little, Ippo would be one of the best shonen series ever made. At least in terms of sports manga. Sure, you can disagree, but don't do it without actual reasoning. Ippo is not one of those I-wish-the-author-died terrible wastes of paper that you can just march in and start deploring on a whim.

Exactly.
Heck, if i keep enjoying it all the way through to the end, i'm purchasing all the volumes.
For what it is, it's an enjoyable sports manga that's been going for a long time.
I don't think i've ever read a manga with so many chapters before (unless you combine all the JoJos together lol)
I said this is worst than Naruto or Bleach because at least those series would end (eventually).
Hajime No Ippo is going to drag until the author retires and until that time he'll keep strechting ridiculous combats like this one with Itagaki. I liked the series at first, some years ago and really enjoyed reading all those long fights in one go, but as as weekly manga the pace is just insufferable.
Also, where is the character development? I can't see much of it or those character relationships you talk. Could this even be considered an sports manga anymore? I prefer to stick to All Rounder Meguru and let this old dinosaur die.
Well i wouldn't say that it's that bad. It's just in a bit of a slump.
Just going back ten volumes and we got the GREAT Malcom Gedoh match, and the at the very least decent Randy boy fight. And a bit of Mashiba thrown in there.
And even in garbage like the Woli match there were good bits, like Kamogawa and his american counterpart meeting up again. Followed by the a decent Itagaki match vs Karasawa.
Just follow this fight with some Takamura sheenanigans, and a good Ippo, or Takamura fight and we'll be golden.

2 chapters.
! I'm getting a Date/Ippo feeling; Saeki's will being stronger than Itagaki's.
These two chapters felt superior to the previous ones. This at least seems to be boxing.
Come on Saeki you can do it!
He's losing now, the question is, will Itagaki be able to beat Ippo's time?
imo Itagaki will be so obsessed with beating Ippo's time that he'll make the mistake causing his loss.
they talk about it boiling down to willpower.
i think that itagaki will turn into rape face mode like that time he found himself evilly grinning behind ippo's back.
he'll snap and brutalize Saeki, ending his career. cue a character development oriented guilt trip.

I have always wanted to see how Ippo would react if he really hurt someone.
Sure he has sent some to the hospital, ended quite a few careers, but what if someone's life was in serious danger?
What would Ippo think sitting outside the operating room(face it he's to nice not to)? Would he consider quitting?
Would he say "its not my fault its just boxing"? Sure it probably won't happen, but it's something to wonder about.

That's a gruesome thought…Based on Saeki's will, I think it'll have a satisfactory ending (although Saeki won't win) for everyone involved.
The turn around in this fight is still bullshit. Still hope Itagaki loses. Gaki shuffle my ass.
Re-reading Ippo once again. The Sanada fight is as good as i remembered it.
New chapter's out. http://mangastream.com/read/hajime_no_ippo/54054342/1
! Being an Itagaki fan I'm obviously happy with the outcome, but man do I feel for Saeki. Loved the fight overall too.
Looking forward to some gym fun. A little Takamura madness to wash it all down with
I think you forgot about the 2 other fights to come.
750 chapters in now. Its still a fun series but i cant say that i like Itagaki that much.
Just read the chapter. Did Itagaki make it in time?
^
There was no information about this. Next week we gonna have color pages with some kind of memorial stuff. Perhaps they plan to put some retrospective material every 5 or 10 chapters until chapter #1000?
Kimura is the next one to fight but I dunno if it will start next chapter or if it will depict solely Itagaki and his Inner Hollow.
I hope #1000 will be a huge chapter. A WBC or WBA title match would be awesome, it doesn't matter if it's Takamura, Ippo or Miyata.
http://www.mangareader.net/hajime-no-ippo/972/1
Hope there won't be any speed world this time…
So how long till we see Itagaki getting owned by Miyata?
You're getting it all wrong. How long 'til Itagaki beats Miyata and becomes the supreme one.
Itagaki then beats Martinez and becomes the final boss
, Good one Wolfwood. I just hope it doesn't take too long for a Miyata vs. Itagaki. Miyata should show him his place and make him realize your not even close to be considering yourself to be fighting ippo.
I think he will challenge Miyata to test himself againt Ippo since they can't fight eachother. (Kinda like the KO time test)
So I guess Miyata will completely destroy Itagaki and then down the line Ippo will beat Miyata and then Itagaki will go over the deep end leave the gym and fight Ippo and lose.
FFFF.. I did not want to see this going that route.
We got Itagaki taking out Miyata, and then replacing him as the potential final battle.. I don't like it.
Miyata IS the final boss.
It's waaaay too early for Itagaki to compete against Miyata. But the possibility is definitely there.

You'd like to think that wouldn't you. But sadly Itagaki has become one with the speed force and hence can't be beaten
In my opinion it's pretty much confirmed that Ippo x Miyata will be the LAST fight of the manga. It may even be only a sparring or a fight for the world championship after a hypothetical victory of Miyata over Martinez.
The thing is that we dont know if Miyata will continue as a featherweight. He doesn't intend to fight Ippo anymore and has defeated the style that defeated his dad. He wants to be the world champion but it doesn't mean he will accomplish it as a FW. I don't see any need for his fight against Itagaki and let's be sincere Gaki wouldn't win it.
There are lots of possibilities at this moment. Ok, Sendo will be thrashed by Martinez for sure, but what about Woli x Martinez? Is there any possibility of a Ippo x Sendo III? Maybe Ippo x Woli II? There's also Itagaki's story and maybe a comeback of RBJ. We are only talking about Featherweights here. I suppose some of them will run to other weightclasses sooner or later.
Besides, we have Takamura's saga (4 more belts to go) and Aokimura's stories. Vorg and Mashiba stories are almost done, since there's no need for Mashiba to be higher than he is now (IMHO) and Vorg is going to have his world title fight soon (he is ranked #1 in the world in his weightclass).
Finally caught up!
phew.
!
! ^^
What I feel like.
^
So, what did you think? Did you feel the manga got worse in the last 200 chapters? What did you think about the fights with Woli, RBJ and Gedo? These fights were criticized a lot since I caught up with the manga (beginning of Gedo fight) but I have the feeling that this happened because people had to read them weekly instead of reading the fights at once.
Have you seen #973 and #974 Raws yet? They are already out.
Where did you see the raws? I'll look for them but if you already know a place that'd be nice.
Thanks, this looks very interesting can't wait to read the translated chapters…
! But I think Aoki will win this fight somehow
Can't seem to find the 973 raws but it's fine.
Vorg is going to have his world title fight soon (he is ranked #1 in the world in his weightclass).
Where was that stated?
As for Miyata vs. Ippo, I could see them do a WBA vs. WBC fight. No actual title, just to see the two league champions fight.
It's stated he is 1st in these pages. So I suppose he'll challenge the world champion :
Latest chapter is out,
and it's just
! I dunno, fukken embarrassing.
! This "will I quit, won't I quit" Aoki and Kimura can't win a SINGLE DAMN MATCH while Itagaki is doing smirky backflip showboating is like watching Rock Lee get crapped on while Sasuke gets sucked off all over again,
How many times can they run back this same plot thread for these two characters? Come the hell on.
! Mashiba is 1000% correct: it's like the Sonic Cycle of anticipation and disappointment manga-fied. I want to cheer for these characters, but how can I when they don't get a fraction of the narrative focus (we didn't even get to see Kimura's fight!), and even when they do it's just the same "Oh look, it didn't rain today! Guess I'll stay a boxer!" "Oh look, my toast landed butter side down. Let's get back in the ring" completely arbitrary reasons for these characters to decide to stay in the game after teasing us that they were going to quit forever ("Seriously! For realsies this time!"). This has been like the 5th time. Give Kimura a break already!
! Give this plot thread a break already! Or goddamn commit to one of these two quitting boxing, don't just talk about it.
I agree with every word, Silence.
Ugh .
For fuck's sake, this is the epitome of going around in circles. Do something with these characters, you had almost a THOUSAND CHAPTERS to do so!!!
I think that Aoki and Kimura will be Japanese Champions in different situations and then retire, but will continue working at the gym. I think their stories as boxers is coming to an end soon. Aoki will win this fight and fight the champion and Kimura will have a shot at the title somehow. Morikawa has to wrap this up before entering the last big arc of the manga (aka world stage).
