I still like the Simpsons but I'm going to the movie just to see where Springfield is really located. I wouldn't be surprised if it was my home-town (Springfield, VA).
The Simpsons

Ahhh The Simpsons, it was my favorite cartoon a long time ago… But frankly the series really dropped after season 9. I hope the movie be good though.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. That is because the series' writers left and got replaced by new ones. That's why it sucked after that season.
The movie is being written by a team of selected writers from the series' best. Hoorah!

It could be in Illinois or Missouri or anywhere else

Meh. Does anyone else think the Simpsons already went downhill?

…..did you skip most of the thread or something?

I'm probably going to see the movie, but I haven't watched Simpsons at 5 on weekdays like I used to or watched the new episodes on Sundays literally since last October. It doesn't really make me laugh anymore, except for that Wordloaf center where Michael Chabon walked up and then the guy in the crowds like "CHABOOOOOOOOOOOONE!" Possibly the funniest Simpsons clip ever.
-
My favorite part was the last scene of an episode when Homer and Marge tried to figure out who killed JFK.
Homer: HEY! I think I've figured it out! Lee Harvey Oswald wanted to steal Jack Ruby!
Marge: Jack Ruby's a man, not a jewel. :wassat:

@Miss:
Aw come on. Simpsons arent as bad as people are generalising it to be! Personally I dont see it getting much worse, I'm surprised it lasted this long, compared to Family Guy, that thing got old after the 2nd season…
my thoughts exactly! :D
and imho, the simpson's best seasons were 1st and 2nd, even if the animation wasn't so good. they still smelled of tracy ullman :P -
Family Guy was awesome.
But now it's starting to get too self-important and political which instantly mean death in my eyes. You can do that sorta stuff if you avoid old jokes and getting polar with political jokes. South Park has mastered this as it never attacks political sides, rather the stupidity and extremism that we can all agree is off the charts on all sides.
Which is pure win.
But Family Guy really lost me with Bill Clinton sex jokes and Cheney gun jokes.
Welcome to the 21st Century Seth.
Haven't given up on the show though. The chicken fights are incredible.
-
The chicken fights are so goddamn redundant. It's one of those old jokes that don't really need to be constantly recycled.
-
Family Guy was okay until the writers started performing pagan worship towards the Monkey in the Closet. Seriously, stop using that damn joke.

Family guy is cool.. I loved the cameo character at the end of last nights episode on AS

I believe there was a vote to pick which one it should be. That one won.
-
I saw a recent Family Guy episode last night that was actually consistently funny, despite it suffering from McFarlane's typical boner for 80's pop culture, and his "LOL POLTICS" (though one 'political' joke was actually pretty funny).
-
I haven't laughed so hard at a movie since… I can't even remember when.
-
Ditto
This was awesome on an epic scale! No fan will be shouting boo_urns at the end of this film!
I"ll write a more detailed review when I get my keyboard fixed
-
the hell, get it on youtube as quickly as possible!!! we're getting in september in italy and I hate the fuckin' dub!!!
-
Was it funnier then Grindhouse and Hot Fuzz? If it was then I will be so happy. I cant wait to see it tomorrow. I got the CD and it's probably my favorite Zimmer score.
-
I saw the movie today. It was hilarious. Unlike many other movies now, which come when a series is starting to fail and get old, it actually did a good job. Especially when you consider that they did the classic "put our best guys on it to make sure it's awesome" tactic often used in the 3rd movie of a trilogy. And as we all know, even the best of trilogies had terrible endings, mostly because they are trying their best. But it actually worked out fairly well. It was a little more epic than the rest of the series, and since the script was constantly re-written some middle parts felt like they had been changed and revised so much that any subplots were hardly started, never finished, or were missing the middles.
For example, early trailers showed the whole family coming to Mr. Burns. He says one button solves their problems, the other releases the hounds. In the movie, it's 3 major town people(Apu, the doctor who's name I forgot, and Chief Wiggum) and they all ask for electricity. And while funny, it was pretty obvious some things weren't tacked on there, but rather the scenes around the were changed so much they became almost pointless at some points, except just to keep some comedy the guys working on it liked.
All that aside, the story still flowed well, and there were some unexpected gags. Overall, I liked it. Could it have been better 10 years ago? Maybe, but we'll probably never know. Still, it's definitely worth your $10.00 to go see it, and I'll be buying it when it comes out, hopefully on blu-ray with a crapload of extra features.

I just got home from watching the movie I loved it.
I loved how the whole movie was CG cuz they made it really well. :)What I never got was, what happened to Spider Pig? :S
They never mentioned him after the riot. And! :O
! Correct me if I'm wrong but, was that Bart's penis they showed when he was skateboarding?
-
Yes, yes it was. It was making fun of how cartoon characters never have it drawn, even when shown, it's just never there even though they try to hide it, so like every show they have it just out of view most of the time, and you can even see it's not there before that fence.
And it was neat to see the backgrounds CGI in parts, it added some quality to it. I remember a few years ago when people tried putting CGI backgrounds on some animated characters, it looked like crap, but either the Simpsons team made it blend well or the craft has come farther.

The one where Peter goes back in time to have fun and ends up making the world ten times better? 'Cause that's one of the only episodes I've seen recently that was amusing all the way through.
I went and saw it with rather low expectations, giving the Simpsons' level of quality recently, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was done really well, and was pretty hilarious all the way through. Made me look forward even more to the Futurama episodes coming out next year.
-
More than 100 times I heard somebody in that cinema laughing. If that isn't a sure sign that this movie is funny, I don't know what is.
-
@Mr.:

Wait, wait! New Futurama episodes? :w00t:
-
Unless I've been duped by some grand practical joke, yeah. They're making four straight-to-DVD movies, and then taking some of the material from them, adding a ton of new stuff, and airing sixteen new episodes in 2008 on Comedy Central.
The first movie, Bender's Big Score comes out December 7.
-
Oh boy, a Bender-themed movie. I'll be sure to avoid that.
-
Apparently the movie centers around a gang of criminals taking over Planet Express, and using Bender to commit crimes. I like Bender, so I imagine I'll enjoy the movie.
Plus, Barbados Slim is going to be in it.
-
Bender is flagrantly one of the least funny characters in the main cast, which makes the fact that he's the focus 50% of the time.
All they need to do is make a Leela based movie and they can be sure that no one will watch it.
-
The above post has absolutly NO redeeming value.
-
Bah, Zoidberg is the only one who truly deserves a movie.
-
If you think Leela is an amusing character then God help you.
-
@Cap'n:

I was reffering to Bender. And sorry for saying it had no redeeming value. It was 50% redeeming for not liking Leela.
-
Bah, Zoidberg is the only one who truly deserves a movie.
Agreed. Zoidberg was easily my favorite Futurama character. Besides the final episode, the one with his mating situation was one of my favorite episodes.
-
If there were any justice in the world the show would star Zoidberg and Farnsworth.
-
But Leela is sexy.
-
I was hoping for a Bender cameo in the movie, but the Cat Lady was good enough.

16 seasons too many

What happened to Spider pig? Homer probably ate him
I still want to know what happened to Springfield"s pollution dilema after the dome was broken. Another stepping stone plot that didn"t get resolved
-
Damn it I went to 5 theaters and all showing were sold out, except for one theater that was closed due to a power outage.
I should have Fandangoed! -
Springfield was rebuilt, and I'd assume the EPA just gave up trying to clean the pollution. Even if they just got the pig crap out, the lake will still be polluted like always. It just wouldn't be as funny without a green fish with 10 eyes.
-
I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't amazing, but it had some great moments. The fact that they killed off Green Day made it all the better for me. I'll definitely see it again.
Needed a bit more side character interaction and Sideshow Bob.
-
I liked the film.
There were some real decent touches to the film.
! When Homer and Bart jump Springfield Gorge, the ambulance that unsuccessfully tries to take Homer to hospital after his failed attempt at the gorge in "Bart the Daredevil" is still there, crashed into the tree. I thought that was awesome.
Tom Hanks appearance was cool too.
"If you see me in the street, leave me be."

HOW DID I MISS THAT?!!?!? im like, a crazy simpsons fan. D=
anyways i LOVED the movie. really good compared to the past couple seasons, which had their moments, but yeah. GREAT movie.
and no, the pig wasn't eaten. i called it when i first saw him with the pig, and i was wrong. it kinda dissapears….

@The:

Aw, so Sideshow Bob isn't in the movie? This is utter sadness!
I'll still go see the movie, being a huge Simpsons fan that I am… After growing up with it for the last 15 years or so... It would be blasphemous of me to not see it.
-
Just came back, the series has been a downer for me lately, but this movie got me interested again.
-
@Anime:

HA, funny story… I bought my ticket to the midnight showing at the theater I work at, and well, around 10:50 P.M. Thursday, the power goes out during this huge storm. So when they announced they would not be showing the midnight there because of the power outage, they gave us passes to go see it over at a west side location, and well, that takes 30 minutes to get to, and at that point, it was shortly past 11:30. We ended up going 75 pretty much all the way there (an interstate to a state highway, yeah). As you know, it was raining, so I ended up hydroplaning pretty much 50% of the way to the west side location. (It was playing in the ultrascreen, that's right, I got to see a bigger movie than people who saw it in the imax.)

I thought Kelsey Grammer said he would be in the film. Well I heardthere are 2 hours of deleted scenes, including stuff with Minnie Driver.
Finally saw it, four theaters all sold out an hour in advance. I loved it. I loved the whole Bart censorship thing.
The score was indeed great, but I noted that the various songs were mislabeled. The music when Bart is skateboarding was called "Release the Hounds" and the music playing when Marge and Homer have sex is called "Barts Doodle." Intriguing no?
