After rushed ending of Wano and through most of the Egghead I was afraid One Piece will devolove into plotpoints checklist with random encounters between old characters and barely any structure and flow, but this whole traitor set up, which was being hinted at since the very beginning of the arc, helped a lot to alleviate that. The arc finally feels like an arc with it's own story. The set up felt a little rushed and could have used some breathing room with more sci-fi adventuring, but if the resolution delivers, I'll be happy with the arc.

I'm pretty certain Oda's two main intentions going into Wano was for Luffy to defeat Kaido and have Momo be shogun. Once he accomplished those two priorities, he was content with leaving.
Oda's two main intentions for Egghead seem to be to get Vegapunk out of there and for Bonney to find the answers behind Kuma. He seems to be consistent enough in giving both Vegapunk and Bonney focus with shounen action surrounding all that, so I'm not afraid.

@Deicide Ah, I had the opposite experience. I took a break to work on personal projects and binged through the arc from 1060 with the Seraphim less fresh in my mind, so I didn't have any expectations of Vegapunk being a major antagonist, especially since the brief scene with Tashigi at the start seemed to sum up what he would be like.
While I do agree that what's real and what isn't is certainly a theme in Egghead, I don't think it's the main theme of the arc. It's not the what Rod Serling would call the Proposal - the question/idea characters argue back and forth on that ultimately gets answered in the climax. Quite the opposite, I'd argue. Yes, Lilith does say not to trust their eyes, but the result is that the Straw Hats successfully walk through a door and what initially appears an ambush or a trap turns out to not be the case. Not trusting their eyes has consistently produced either neutral or positive results for the protagonists.
I won't say it's impossible for more negative aspects of the idea to be introduced at a future, but after what Vegapunk said about Devil Fruits and the human soul I think it would take a "Atlas' food replicator is actually a Soylent Green-style monstrosity" level revelation to walk back the amount of endorsement her worldview has been given by the arc to re-frame it as the overarching conflict's theme.
Rather the main theme/proposal of Egghead feels to be whether or not you can achieve your dreams if you sell out your ideals in the process. Vegapunk in the Ohara flashbacks argues yes, believing that he can influence a positive change from within the WG despite making weapons, but the results have been way more mixed as characters go back and forth on the subject. For every Stussy, Sentomaru, and OG Kuma, and SWORD rescue mission subplot, there's a Judge Dredd Kuma blindly following directives, or a MADS infighting subplot, or the tides shifting on control for the Seraphim , or an instance of sabotage not too far behind. None of which have had the concept of deception at the forefront, or at all in many of these examples, and I currently feel the saboteur's actions (assuming that they were all committed by one entity) are far too contradictory at this point to be conclusive.
And I think I'll have to disagree on Kuma being the work of a mastermind of sabotage. A major detail were given was that Kuma was the one who decided to strip himself of his own free will. Given that this revelation is directly juxtaposed with Kuma climbing the Red Line back to Marjorie, the implication is that Kuma's decision and the currents events are related. Given that his past, the parallels to the Iron Giant, and this incident will likely be Kuma's final stand in one way or another, I just don't see the benefit in stripping away the impact of Kuma choosing to become a Pacifista by having his arc's conclusion be hijacked by a third party.

@last-exit-to-laughtale I don't think deception is the main theme, but I do feel it has been an underlying theme. Every few chapter there was something that felt wrong, IMO, and that stuck with me.

I have seens several peopoe who complain about the around the world scenes.
I would be curious about a poll to know what is the community feeling.
As for me, Vegapunk's revelations have not been that interesting so far beside Saul being alive in Elbaf and in waiting for the marine to arrive, i enjoy those scenes. But so far we have only a taste of everything so i guess my enjoyment will only last if we have a bit more but will that not be to much once the action in Egghead starts ?
I guess the volume reading will also help smooth it in the end -

@Kdom I think it depends on how invested each one's been in the main storyline.
I do get excited about the world building stuff, but at the same time I'm pretty invested into the mystery and how the story will go once the mastermind is revealed. I'm also interested in Kuma's backstory and believe my waifu Hancock may finally return to the main story in this arc. As such, each time we go to outside stuff it feels like we lose momentum on the main plot and that's a bit frustrating.
Overall, in the long run it doesn't matter. I sure wish we were getting world updates during Wano Act 3, when I was way more invested in the Reverie and Warlord plots but had to endure 2 years without updates.

- No followup on Kid/Shanks
- S-Bear and S-Hawk were thrown far but are unharmed
- Lucci/Luffy and Zoro/Kaku split
- We see the attack on Nami, but it's ongoing and Edison is not seen
- Stussy betrays Jinbe and Sanji

For the next 3 months, we are getting around 8 chapters (3 in March, 3 in April, 2 in May due to Golden Week).
Over this period, we likely are going to get:
- The mastermind villain's reveal (it's totally Atlas)
- The Straw Hats in a very bad spot (most of the crew captured/petrified/incapacitated), with few exceptions (likely Luffy, but even he may be in a bad spot. Particularly, I’d love to see Chopper and Franky getting their chances to shine and upgrade.)
- A mysterious arrival (it's totally Hancock)
- At least one more world update. Maybe related to Revolutionaries or Cross Guild, but maybe even Big Mom Pirates.
- The mastermind villain's goal
- More about Kuma's backstory, thought not much
- The heroes starting their comeback against the villain

I have a predition around what's going on in Egghead and why one of the Punk's has betrayed the others.
I think that the traitourous Punk is planning to perform some morally corrupt experiment, killing all those captured Cipher Pol agents and harnassing the power of their souls. Maybe the plan is even to capture the Straw Hats as well. That's why those Cipher Pol agents are in some kind of weirdly shaped container, in a secret part of the lab that must not show up on any monitor and that the other punks don't know about (otherwise they should've found them a long time ago). This experiment will obviously result in a lot of death, and so all the other Punks are against it, which is why the traitor is trying to get rid of them as well (it can't get rid of the Stella so he's tied up and outside of the actual machine itself).
As for why this Punk is trying to harnass the agents souls, I think it connects back to the unlimited fuel from the Void Century that Vegapunk has been researching. I think soul power is the fuel needed to power the Iron Giant, and the Iron Giant, being so big, needs a lot of them. We've seen both from Moriah and Big Mom that other people's essence / souls contain power and can be placed into both objects to give them life, and people to make them stronger. With the recent discussions of souls and devil fruits in the beginning section of this arc, I think it would be fitting it tied back into the ancient fuel.
It's possible that the reason the Iron Giant was active 200 years ago is because a previous Soul-Soul fruit user used their powers to give it life. And as for why this Punk let slip to the government about the Poneglyph research, it may have been to lure agents over to use as fuel. Plucking any of the lab assistants (who may all be robots as far as we know) would arouse suspicion, but using outside people and then covering up their disappearance would be simpler.

@black-leg-jex I have my own suspicions about the mastermind’s motivations and objectives, but the idea that the infinite energy has a morally questionable source and everything was done to harness it is very intriguing.

I'm thinking about what could happen with Franky/Chopper this arc.
It would be cool if Franky fights a Seraphim but is TRASHED. Like, he loses an arm, gets heavy damaged. But then he escapes with Lilith or Pythagoras and rebuilds himself with punktech.
As for Chopper, it would be awesome if he also escapes the Vegapunk attack and finds a Vegapunk (maybe the same one with Franky), then learns more about Devil Fruits and end up getting new combat forms. I'd love for him to get rid of Kung Fu point and come up with a new arm/jump point combo form.

General predictions:
- I think we'll definitely be seeing more of the G-5 crew in the near future. Egghead already re-introduced them at the beginning of the arc, and further showed that all the children Caesar experimented on are still undergoing treatment from Vegapunk. The fact that Vegapunk was planning to leave even before the World Government sent out 100 ships to Egghead might be a source of conflict if it means the Punk Hazard kids are potentially another job left half-finished on Vegapunk's part.
- I also wouldn't be surprised if the Punk Hazard events end up being linked to the events that have been going on at Egghead. If I'm reading the timeline correctly, the CP5 agents going missing 2 months prior would've been around the same time that G-5 would've shown up with the Punk Hazard children to help reverse the effects of the drugs they were given.
- On a similar note, it's also interesting to me that Caesar was the one who initially proposed the idea of achieving gigantification by starting with children, and all the Seraphim so far have been children who are significantly larger than the counterparts they were cloned from. Perhaps Vegapunk potentially taking a page from Caesar's book was a catalyst for friction on Egghead?
Absolutely hair-brained predictions/theories:
- I wonder if Oda chose to bring Lucci and Kaku back and have them play a role in Egghead as a way to expand on the awakening of Zoans. One chapter brought up both that Zoan awakenings can have the user's will be overwritten by the will that lives inside the fruit, and also confirmed if an artificial fruit like Momo's could awaken at all. Looking back, it's also interesting to note that back in Enies Lobby a major theme surrounding most of the CP9 fights was of self-control. Perhaps Lucci and Kaku's reintroduction is also meant to reintroduce of those ideas in the context of awakening?
(Not to mention the concept art for Gear 5 includes notes of it having potentially negative side effects, and I've always been suspicious of the sketch Oda made of Gear 5 Luffy simultaneously laughing and crying in an identical manner to how he depicted the failed SMILE fruits.) - Was thinking about Bonney's "Distorted Future" powers and how she seems to be able to change herself and others into different versions of themselves. Particularly that the caption for the old man version of Luffy is noted to be from a different future. If Distorted Future works by aging a person differently based on factoring in potentially different life choices, could there perhaps exist a Distorted Future!Sanji that goes full Germa?

I can see the bubble gun coming into use. Is it similar to the resin from Sabaody that coats ships from the pressure of going so deep underwater? The crew were able to cover their bodies with it and fight. It can possibly be a more advanced application of that process and not the same substance.
I remember when the crew were initially going up to the lab, Lilith said that Pyrobloin was used similar to it's function on Sky Islands. Pyrobloin is an ingredient in Kairoseki, so there is a chance to weaponize even more with Usopp/Franky.
I wouldn't rule out there being focus on the green blood. Why did Oda want it to be seen on the Seraphim arm? It does look cool and make them come off more like a science project. Looking like a Warlord with Lunarian features wasn't enough? Oda has too much fun with these designs. Especially the SMILE users. He probably wanted to step back a little with the way Sheepshead functioned.

@Cockycent I'm partial to the theory that the green blood - and thus the DF power associated with it - can be switched out for different batches at will. Maybe they adapt based on the abilities of their opponents and alter their own powers accordingly.

Wow, I never thought about looking back what could have happened two months or so prior.Also, I do think Gear 5 must have some serious drawback we haven’t figured yet. I’ve ben considering the loss of personality as a possibility. Luffy didn’t seem like himself when he transformed the 1st time for a while, and maybe there’s an increasing risk of him losing control each time he transforms.

I have a theory about Sanji getting Sora's suit at Egghead
Let me explain. We have the comic... There is some hero named Sora who obviously had some suit as well. Further more his mom was Sora... So there for sure is a connection.
Currently Sanji and his team are in some weapon lab... So what if there is the OG suit of Sora stored? Sanji will find it and because of genetic connection through his mother named Sora will be able to activate it?
With it the worst enemy of the Vinsmokes will appear while still having their genetic enhancement as well.
He would be like the Green Ranger. Fürst manipulated by an evil force before gaining his true power

Stussy biting a giraffe is 100% a cool and funny coincidence. There is no storytelling meaning to put her drinking giraffe juice to foreshadow her biting a guy hundred of chapters later. It's just funny that it happened, it has no meaning.
(But yeah, there is certainly an idea behind the egg in Roger's ship, and it will pay off sometime unexpectedly)

Not just that but the Whole Cake giraffe positioned near Rocks and a backstabbing woman. Rather indicative of what Oda was thinking.

@Kdom Something I'm curious about is if Punk Records is really the brain or just a piece of the brain's region that grows to store data. Or, in other words, if Stella can function without Punk Records, he just needs it to store/recover info, and destroying it would just leave him with a huge case of amnesia.

It's the perfect opportunity to show how big their egos are and it doesn't let me down. After dragging his feet with certain characters in Wano, the delineation of these 2 are positioned nigh perfectly.

Looks like the 10th Titanic Captain might finally reveal themselves seeing as how most of the captain are either fighting Law or at Pirate Island.

I don't know what's happening only in 1082, but here my expectations for the next chapters (1082-1086, which is likely the end of Volume 107):
- Major Blackbeard Pirates showcase. Shot, Pizarro, Wolf and especially Shiryu show how vicious they truly are, by fighting SWORD.
- Garp sacrifices himself to save his companions. Garp either killed, captured or MIA.
- Return to Egghead at the end of either 1082 or 1083
- Glimpses of the defeated crew (petrified, unconscious, etc.). York won!
- Following chapters rewind time to show what happened.
- Up to Chapter 1086, we see the crew falling one by one.
- I can see Sanji, Nami and Kaku being petrified.
- Brook's body is ignored by the Seraphim because he sent his soul to search for Stella.
- Robin, Chopper and Atlas confront York. she locks everyone's boots and pulls out some surprise move.
- I'm not sure about what happens to Zoro, Kaku, Jinbe, and Stussy. Whatever happens, they are considered defeated.
- Chapter 1086: Luffy is paw'ed away. He reacts in time, but ends up falling to Fabriophase. He's shot by the Frontier Dome lasers and is seen unconscious. Lucci may or may not fall with him, not sure.
- Volume 107 ends with the "defeated" narration for SH crew.
This is a nice way for Vol 107 to be full of tragedies: Kid, Law, Garp, Luffy, all ending in a bad situation.
This allows the following volume to set up both the 2nd phase of York's plan and the crew's comeback. Also a good point to return to Bonney, Kuma's flashback, and/or Dragon.
I can see Franky (half-petrified, rebuilding himself), Brook (witness everything, got ignored by the Seraphim), and maybe Chopper (somehow escapes York?) shining in the coming back.
Luffy falling to Fabriophase provides nice tension and a barrier for his comeback. If Lucci falls with him, I can see Lucci trying to kill Luffy, prompting a saving from someone...
Oh, yeah, because a certain person will appear in Egghead, I think. Around chapter 1092...

Is there a chance the audience had to know about these non Egghead events before the coming Egghead chapters or is this Oda trying to end those narratives, so he can stick to Egghead?
Lucci and Kaku are temp allies, but I can see there being a minor issue once their Saturn sama arrives. Lucci has been shown to follow orders at the Reverie, but his dialogue is a little off. The responses to some of it like with Stussy (1062) before they got to Egghead strengthened my suspicion too.
His dialogue almost resembles someone mocking or at least patronizing the fact that CDs are to have whatever they desire. "They are not bound by logic".
Is there a slight chance that Lucci might butt heads with Saturn? I can see his grudge against Luffy taking priority over whatever command is given to him.

I agree with this idea that Kidd and Law's losses are creating a narrative that the three new heroes of Wano get defeated after leaving, but one problem with that is Luffy has constantly and consistently succeeded where Law and Kidd have failed. It's a neat idea, but this could also be a something of a red herring.

@onemoment I don't think Luffy's defeat will be as serious as the others'. There's no destroyed ship nor stolen poneglyphs, for instance, and the crew can be saved before the end of the arc.
I feel Luffy will bounce back before the marines arrive, and the world at large won't even know he was defeated at one point.
However, the narrator declaring his defeat is a nice way to build up tension. I feel it's the best way to quickly pull back readers into Egghead. We go back and, surprise!, everything has gone to hell! What comes next? How do we escape this situation?

Actually, during the time Luffy got defeated at Sabaody and lost Ace at Marineford, Law and Kid were shown pretty much being on top of things.
But now I suppose what makes the most sense is that Oda is showing the opposite as a parallel. Because now Law and Kid are shown having lost while Luffy is on top of things.
Because you say Luffy has constantly and consistently succeeded, but it can’t be denied that getting separated from his crew and Ace dying in front of him were negative experiences for him, right?

@electricmastro With due respect, while I see what you're getting at remember that before that at Sabaody Luffy got to met Silvers Rayleigh then got defeated by a Admiral and Kuma after defeating a Pacifista. Meanwhile, Law and Kidd just fought a Pacifista. Yes, their crews weren't defeated but they didn't really accomplish much in those two years. Even if you factor in Law becoming a warlord, it feels like Luffy has has more accomplishments throughout the series.
Even if you don't agree, then just narrow it down to the New World. Law has been the other most successful of the Worst Generation, and Luffy still was the guy who beat Law's mortal enemy where Law failed. Kidd meanwhile has only had notable defeats. It's hard to recover from that.

It was abandoned. During the "Decks of the World" cover story (the first one, post-Timeskip), Perona visited it and it seemed deserted.
However, when Moria attacked Fullalead in search of Absolom, he was on Thriller Bark again. The island-ship was visible next to Fullalead in Ch 925.
