The Nichloas Sparks themed latest movie poster lol.
I think this comedy bit rings a little true.
Of course, I don't agree with Thor and Hulk having one but, eh, you get the point.
http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/avengers-infinity-war-will-feature-67-characters-20160112
… Just thought that I should share this because... Well, let the speculation commence lol. :ninja:
Man, 67 characters... That's somehow both incredibly exciting and at the same time somewhat frightening because... Even though I really admire the Russo brothers and think they have a tremendous amount of talent... Whedon had a lot of trouble balancing all the moving parts in Age of Ultron (I say that as somebody who mostly liked that film) so... Infinity War looks like it's going to be even more ambitious honestly. Well fingers crossed, it'll be a spectacular film on at least some level honestly...
Well I think we can feel rest assured that we'll see all six of the main Avengers, Nick Fury, probably at least a few other SHIELD characters, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, possibly the Defenders characters like Daredevil and Jessica Jones :ninja:, Thanos (most obvious statement ever) Loki (cough most marketable cough) Several supporting characters like Bucky, Falcon, Rhodie, The Wasp, Odin, Sif, Heimdall and the rest of Thor's buddies from Asgard, probably some supporting cast members and villains from the upcoming Spider-Man movie... maybe just maybe Dr. Helen Cho and Luis from Ant-Man (please, please, please ) And... Then it gets really complicated because... I just listed a ton of characters right there and yet I have no idea who's going to be introduced in the upcoming Marvel movies like Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man etc. that could make this cast even larger, as if it wasn't huge already. Man... Infinity War is going to be insane for all the right and wrong reasons.
Well... All I can say is that as long as they don't lose sight of the emotional moments that make the Marvel moments really work I'll probably still end up loving this movie regardless. A big part of why I still liked Age of Ultron in spite of its flaws is because we still had enough great emotional moments in the film like the Bruce and Natasha scenes, or various other scenes of the team bonding and when Scarlet Witch ripped Ultron's heart out (to name a few) that made me forgive some of the stupider and more rushed moments. So long as they have an emotional moment as good as the one that this music captures... This movie will be a success...
… The feels... The feels... Sniffle
See, when I read that story I don't get the vibe of "We have 67 Different characters who are all definitely going to be in this movie with equally divided screentime" I see it more as "We have 67 characters to work with and use or not use at our leisure".
I think it's a definite that number is gonna be whittled down at least some by the time this movie hits, but regardless, I know the storyline they're (Probably) gonna base this on is Infinity Gauntlet and they also have the entire Phase 3 slate up until then to introduce and develop a lot of these characters and then two whole movies of Infinity War to play with them.
I mean, that's the beauty of what Marvel's doing vs. what DC is doing. We have SIX films before Infinity War P1 and two movies After P1 but before P2. That's EIGHT films to develop and showcase these characters, so they really don't need to worry TOO much about introducing and dveloping anybody in Infinity War.
And then there's the thing about the Infinity Gauntlet Storyline that helps them out too… Spoilering it due to POTENTIAL spoilers depending on how closely they end up following the comic:
! In the story, Thanos is in love with Lady Death, the physical personification of Death in the Marvel Universe, and collected the Infinity Stones to show his devotion to her by wiping out half the sentient life in the Universe, which he does with a literal snap of his fingers. Right here, they could easily fit in like 10-20 of the 67 in nothing but quick cameos as they all fade out of existence at this moment. I mean, this'd be the PERFECT moment to fully tie the Netflix series' characters into the movies by showing half the Defenders, for example, fade out with the rest of the team being like "Dafuq?!"
! Then, Silver Surfer shows up at Dr. Strange's place and is like "We gotta do something!" and Dr. Doom shows up and is like "I agree, we gotta do something!" and then Adam Warlock shows up and is like "I have a plan! We're gonna do something!" Now, Silver Surfer and Dr. Doom are both persona non-gratta, but they could easily be replaced with other characters. Thor and Loki for example. Anyway, Adam Warlock's plan is a huge assault of Heroes attacking Thanos on his giant floating shrine to death, and this is a battle when he just throws everyone at him in one big battle. this is another place where you can throw another 10-20 people without needing to give them a lot of screentime or an arc. Just, everyone they could muster are more bodies Adam Warlock (or whoever takes that role in the movie) is throwing at Thanos, with almost all of them dying….. Hell, he Suffocate Cyclops to death, turns Wolverine's Bones into gel, leaving him a screaming pile of agony on the floor, and a minion woman he makes out of nothing rips Iron Man's head clean off his body... Yeah, this'd be a really deadly battle lol.
Here are the things they have going for them in handy list form:
1: 8 Total movies in Phase 3 BESIDES Infinity War to focus on character development and buildup.
2: TWO movies to do this all in.
3: The Story-relevant stuff I mentioned in the spoiler above.
All these things together means, they definitely have wiggle room to play with here.
They've also clarified since that 67 is a literal number but just personifying that, "yes, we have a lot of characters to play with…" and that some of those might just be quick shots of looking up to the sky hearing the call to action."
Think how Pepper Potts and Jane were used in Avengers. (But not Avengers 2.)
But yeah. THey have a ton of films to work with to set up, it shouldn't be a huge issue.
No idea how the films inbetween IW films is going to work though, that is kind of crazy.
Yeah…. that's actually a really good question... It's now Captain Marvel and Ant Man 2 that sits between them... Are we gonna just have them say they take place before IWp1? Will they be like "Yeah, this Thanos thing is going on in the background"?
I mean, it's kinda obvious they're gonna go with some kind of a cliffhanger at the end of IWp1... how will the stakes of that cliffhanger be felt if we literally just cut away to "by the way, after that cliffhanger but before they fought Thanos, this stuff happened" for two movies?...
It'd be better I think if it's just officially stated that those two take place before IWp1... that way the IW movies don't need to worry about them at all.... but how do you communicate that to a casual audience?...
My best friend and I have sat down and tried to iron out what our "Perfect" version of Infinity War would be, and this is what we came up with. Spoilering because, again, if this ends up Following the Infinity Gauntlet Storyline at any capacity, this stuff could end up being spoilers:
Infinity War Part 1:
! First movie will be mostly original stuff as, I'm positive Thanos will not have all the stones yet at this point. They can hand-wave him getting most of them or have offhanded remarks that he got them off-screen, but Vision has the Mind stone. There's NO WAY the Avengers just let him come in and take it and there's NO WAY we don't get shown that event actually happen. I think Movie 1 will be that event. Thanos has gotten all but the Mind stone (And possibly another if any other Stone ends up being on Earth at this point) and comes to Earth to challenge the Avengers for it.
Thor, who will have been in Space up until now, shows up taking the Silver Surfer role from the comic and warns them about Thanos and stands with them to fight. You spend this movie setting up a lot of stuff, ESPECIALLY Lady Death and Thanos' love of her.
! Bottom Line tho, the movie ends with Thanos "Killing" the Vision by taking the Stone and completing the Gauntlet. Final scene is Thanos on his newly-erected space shrine to Death as he snaps his fingers. Cut to Earth, and we see a bunch of people, including plenty of established characters, fading out of existence.
! Either right before the Credits, or during the mid-credits scene, we see what's left of The Avengers in their HQ licking their wounds and basically being like "…. what now?...." and it'll end on the Guardians, Dr. Strange, and (If he's been introduced by now in Phase 3) Adam Warlock being like "Now, we get ready for Round 2."
Breaking this up due to length. Here's Infinity War Part 2:
! Second Movie would be mostly a straight-up adaptation of the rest of Infinity Gauntlet. I'd want them to stick FAIRLY close to the comics TBH, but they definitely have wiggle room.
! I'd want Loki to show up in the Dr. Doom role from the comic (he helps the heroes because it's obviously in his best interest, but when the opportunity presents itself he tries to take the Gauntlet for himself. He doesn't succeed) And I'd want Thor to take on the Silver Surfer's role for the most part. He seems easily like the only one who could.
! Basically, Warlock's plan which I'd like to see replicated in the movie, is he makes a small army of the Remaining heroes and sends them in, literally as "Lambs to the slaughter" with the intent that The Surfer (who would be Thor in the movie) sit back with him near the Battle and wait. His job will be to wait until Thanos is distracted enough by the fight that The Surfer can swoop in with his cosmic speed and steal the Gauntlet. With Thor's hammer swinging flying thing, and Quicksilver dead, he might just be the only hero capable of this.
The reason there's a fight at all when Thanos is basically a god at this point is, ALL of this is to prove his love to Lady Death and trying to get her to reciprocate and she won't. Every time he tries talking to her she gives him the cold shoulder, and Mephisto (yeah, he's here, but he's very not important) convinces him that it would impress Death more if he fights the inevitable resistance without the full powers of the Gauntlet. He keeps the power gem activated, but deactivates the rest to fight The heroes.
! It doesn't work tho, and the Avengers are eradicated, but not before Captain America has a pretty epic 1v1 with Thanos that HAS to be in here. The way they lose is he basically changes his mind mid-fight and decides to just use the Gauntlet. He's seemingly unstoppable at this point.
! The way he's finally beaten is that, early on he resurrects Nebula (who was dead at this point IIRC) and has her lumbering around the Shrine like a Zombie. He pays her pretty much no mind because he thinks of her as a corpse here for his amusement.
The movie could do this too depending on what Nebula is doing/where she is at the start of these movies. Or maybe they can replace her with Gamora since the Audience cares more about her? Either way, she doesn't have to actually be dead, just Thanos brings here here and tortures her for his amusement.
! Anyway, Thanos grows more and more angry as Death refuses to return his affections, even after he's gone so far as to wipe out half the life in the universe for her. This makes him go more and more mad with power until he finally decides to try to usurp the position of Eternity, basically an actual God, and while projecting himself across the stars, Nebula walks up to his Physical body and takes the Gauntlet. Since she was a Zombie and in agony, he paid her no mind and didn't think she'd do this. She then takes the power for herself, undoes what he'd done up to this point and at first is like "I'm now the god!" but the heroes pretty quickly stop her as she doesn't nearly have the same level of mastery of the Stones as Thanos.
! Adam Warlock ends up with the Stones, Thanos' memories are wiped and he's sent to live out the rest of his days as a farmer on some dirtball planet. (He gets his memories back and becomes himself again later because: Comics)
! The movie could EASILY Follow this basic structure, tho, I think they'd go for Killing Thanos since that seems to be what they like doing when they're done with an enemy, and I think they'd want this arc to have a conclusion like that. If they portray his backstory and motivations right, they could even make him a tragic villain (to a point) and have it be kinda poetic when he dies. After all, he wanted to be closer to death right?
! Another thing, the Gauntlet and its ability to both wipe out life and then just undo what it's done means, we are gonna see a LOT of death in these movies. Main characters WILL die, even if they come back to life by the end.
I saw that. It actually kinda makes a lot of sense.
Spoiler'd because possible spoilers about Spider-man in Civil War.
! First, they said Iron Man takes place "10 years" before Civil War. Now, this REALLY sounds like an approximation since that would mean MORE time has passed in these movies than has passed in the real world (Iron Man came out in 2008, Civil War will be 2016, that's only 8 years) so let's assume the movies happened in ROUGHLY real time relative to when they came out, that means 8 years instead of 10.
(For Cap, the majority of the movie was obviously in the 40s, but the end when he's thawed happens release year)
! Put it like that, and from the timeline of events that this is how Superheroes went in the MCU.
! 1940s: Cap operates as Cap but is lost at sea, presumed dead.
2008: Iron Man breaks onto the scene officially
2008-2011: Iron Man 2, Hulk, and Thor happen to some capacity (the events of these 3 movies overlap)
2011: Captain America is Thawed
2012: The Battle of New York Happens. (Thor is officially revealed to the public at large)
! If we go by that, Iron Man was DEFINITELY the first modern hero to appear and he had a good few years as the ONLY hero operating in the world. Yeah, Cap was a known thing, but he wasn't actually out there doing heroic stuff, so it makes sense that kids may idolize him to some extent. I mean ,we see in Iron Man 2 that costumes and toys exist of him. If we go by the real-time assumption, Pete would have been ~6-8 when Tony started operating as Iron Man.
Pete's a Smart kid who, if they stick with his normal origins, is bullied because of it. It'd kinda make sense that he'd think of Tony as a hero since Tony is the only Avenger who has no special powers, military training or spy training. He's a guy who saves people using things he invented by himself. I could see Pete looking up to that.
! Plus, there's the fact that Pete WAS really looking up to Tony in the comics during Civil War, he was KINDOF a father figure to him in that arc (That's what made it so horrible for him when he realized Tony was being evil had to rebel against him)
! I've seen some people online complaining because (apparently) they think Tony being his hero means The Russos are replacing Uncle Ben with Tony as his sole inspiration to become Spider-man… and that's just stupid, nothing in that leaked info says this is the case. They can easily have Uncle Ben be the impedus for him becoming Spider-man with the exact origins from the comics, the only thing is, he ALSO looks up to Tony.
! Really, this just seems like an excuse to get Pete to the same place he was at the beginning of Comics Civil War. Since they can't rely on years of working with him like in the comics, they have to go with a bit of hero worship.
[hide]I'm complaining because it's lame that everything revolves around Tony to the point that even Marvel's mascot is sucking up to him.[/hide]

Don't worry, if they follow the comics at all on this:
! Spidey will become disillusioned with Iron Man and defect to Cap's team by the end of the movie.
Deadpool got a new TV spot during the AFC Divisional.
Hee hee. Is it February yet?
It'd be funny if that PG-13 cut some yahoos are petitioning for actually ends up getting made to get the movie to show in China lol.
There's gonna be a tv edit eventually anyway. WIth words filled in and violent/naked parts edited or taken out.
Just give China that version.

For those who don't know, Ego, the Living Planet is literally just that: a living planet, a talking planet, with a face and even a beard, who possesses telekenisis and other mind-based powers (i.e. energy beams projected from his giant planetoid forehead).

Wow. A living planet. One of the most innovative ideas for a villain ever and…..somehow the writers will turn it into an average by-the-numbers villain.
So some people got to see an early screening of Deadpool and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive

Ego's okay. He managed to tell/make Galactus go fuck himself. Wasn't going to allow himself to be consumed.

Where's that? Sundance Film Festival?
Where's that? Sunset Film Festival?
No clue but Deadpool doesn't exactly seem like a film festival type movie. Probably just some swanky theater in Hollywood.
It was screened in both New York and Los Angeles

I really like how much input the cast had in the use of their powers! It's really cool that McAvoy or Munn or Turner can be like "what if-" and the writers try to incorporate it.
I'd like to nominate Deadpool for most on-point promotional campaign in history
I'm fucking dying.

I love every potshot made at X Men Origins.

I'll be disappointed if Deadpool's marketing team doesn't get any awards for their amazing work. Seriously i can't remember the last time when a movie's marketing was THIS on point.
ARE there awards for marketing and stuff? Cause if there are GEICO has to have been sweeping the competition for years.
The marketing for Deadpool is just so awesome…. it helps that the movie itself looks AMAZING.... seriously, they are doing EVERYTHING right...
I think this comes entirely from Fox not having much faith in it but being ok with it due to low budget, and just letting Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds do what they want.

I think this comes entirely from Fox not having much faith in it but being ok with it due to low budget, and just letting Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds do what they want.
Given how suspect Ryan Reynolds filmography is you might be right on that front.
We know for a fact that Fox didn't have much faith in the movie from the outset and that the extremely positive reaction fans gave to that leaked test footage was basically what got them to make the movie at all. The reaction got Fox to Greenlight the movie, but they still weren't sure if it'd be a success or not, so they gave the production a shoestring budget, at least at first. Estimations I've seen are as low as $30mil, which is ridiculous when you realize that
Fant4stic Bore cost about $120mil to make, X-Men: Days of Future Past was $200mil, and Avengers: Age of Ultron was a whopping $280mil!
In an atmosphere where the general rule is that these superhero movies need budgets that big, giving Deadpool a $30mil budget REALLY shows the studio had little faith in the project.
This is almost certainly why Reynolds and the director got basically free reign, and why they were allowed to make it R rated. With a budget so relatively small, they had room to play with it and try something new because, from the Studio's perspective, it would PROBABLY make back that budget in home video sales alone, even if it completely bombed in theaters…
THAT's not gonna happen however because, even if they threw a little more money at it once FF fizzled and once Deadpool hype increased, I can't imagine they needed much more if they planned around the $30mil budget.
I mean, most analysts are saying the movie is tracking to make Over $55mil in its opening weekend alone.
If that's true, then this movie will have made back its budget in its first 3 days in theaters.
That HOPEFULLY Bodes very well for future Deadpool movies.
The shoestring budget (estimated at $50 million) came as a compromise of the push for the R-rating and the greater freedom, not the other way around. Some outliers excepted, R-rated movies never have big budgets.
Obviously, the marketing everywhere shows FOX has changed its mind since the reluctant greenlighting (THR, Bleeding Cool, etc. reported on this change of mind in the lead-up to SDCC, where they started pushing the movie hard).
I don't see why it's a problem though. The movie looks fine in the trailers, it prevents an overreliance on special effects (hi Thor, AoU, MoS) and forces the crew to stay inventive.
That Australia ad actually made me laugh out loud. Twice. This stuff is great. It better all be on the dvd.
I'll be disappointed if Deadpool's marketing team doesn't get any awards for their amazing work. Seriously i can't remember the last time when a movie's marketing was THIS on point.
